While the very severe cyclonic storm 'Vayu' brought in mayhem for the coastal areas of Gujarat, it brought in the much-required relief for Ahmedabad and its adjoining areas on Thursday. Isolated rainfall, a cloudy sky, and moisture-laden winds helped in arresting the soaring mercury in the city that was giving a tough time to citizens. In fact, the city, on Thursday, recorded a maximum temperature of 35.6 degrees Celsius, which was hovering around 43-44 degrees just two days back.

What is even better is the prediction of the Met office that the city will continue to witness a generally cloudy sky with chances of light rainfall during the next 48 hours, which would continue to keep the mercury under check. As per weather office's forecast, the maximum temperature in the city will be under 39 degrees Celsius during the next two days and will, thereafter, fluctuate. However, it has clarified that the maximum temperature will not cross 40 degrees Celsius till June 19, with the cloud cover likely to keep the temperatures under control.

As far as the minimum temperatures are concerned, the city recorded a minimum temperature of 26.6 degrees Celsius, which is a degree less than the normal. The weather office has predicted that the minimum temperature in the city till June 19 is expected to be around 25 degrees Celsius.

As per the Met department, the city recorded 11.2 mm rainfall in last 24 hours ending at 8.30 am Thursday. Interestingly, several parts of the city recorded light to moderate showers in the evening on Thursday, whereas no rainfall took place in some areas, including the areas around airport. The weather office has clarified that the citizens will get relief from the scorching sun for a few days due to clouding and the entry of moisture-laden winds , but no major rainfall is expected during this period.
