In a horrifying case, five goons attacked the 20-day-old baby and three women on Thursday night at around 9:30 pm. The baby was then taken to Civil Hospital, where it was declared dead on arrival. When relatives who were at home were informed about the matter at around 10:15 pm, they went to the Meghaninagar police station to lodge a formal complaint.

To their shock, the cops refused to file the FIR. They asked the family to provide proof of death before the case could be registered. Instead of investigating the matter, the family was asked to bring the infant's body to the police station.

Mahesh Patni, grandfather of the child, alleged, "When we reached the police station, the cop in-charge refused to lodge a complaint in the matter and asked us to let go of this small incident. They even asked us to provide them with proof."

Meanwhile, other relatives and locals gathered when they found out that one of the main accused Satish Patni had been arrested by the police. The crowd gathered outside police station demanded the cops to handle the accused to them.

More police officers, including DCP Niraj Badgujar and ACP were called on the spot after the situation went offhand. In order to control the situation, cops lathi-charged the protesters.

At around 11 pm, the family members returned to the Meghaninagar police station with the body of the infant, and a complaint was lodged by the cops. "Initially, the police were not ready to lodge a complaint, but when we reached the station with the body of the child, they were forced to register it. Presence of senior officials helped us and the cops started investigating. Before that, nothing was done," added the child's grandfather.

Inspector PG Sarvaiya of Meghaninagar police station said, "The allegations are not true. After the incident took place, the family members took the baby to the hospital. When they found out she had died, they directly took her body to the police station. They should have waited at the hospital and our team would have reached there. We never asked them to bring the body to the police station."

ACP AM Desai of G-division said, "After the mob gathered outside the police station and started baying for the accused's blood, we had to resort to lathi-charge to disperse them."

Niraj Badgujjar, DCP Zone 4, added, "We have arrested three accused in the matter and are searching for the rest. We will investigate the allegations made by the family and take action."
