Ahmedabad: BJP furls its flag on AMTS, violates Model Code of Conduct

As per the Model Code of Conduct not a single political party is allowed to use government premises and properties for political campaign.

Amidst political campaigning, the Bharatiya Janta Party was found using bus stand of Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Service (AMTS) some tree guards and electric poles in Science city road locality on Saturday, while some commercial complexes and buildings were draped with party flags.

As per the Model Code of Conduct not a single political party is allowed to use government premises and properties for political campaign. "We have received a complaint regarding the Science city road and we've sent a team to remove it," said Vikrant Pandey, Ahmedabad collector.

"No political party is allowed to use government premises for the political campaign. They can use private properties, for which we keep a tab on it. Everything is under our scanner and this also counts in their election expense," said the collector. Such flags were also found in the Jodhpur locality. While the team of AMC has paused the work of poster removal and sealing drive for the property defacement. According to sources, this was because of under the influence of a political party and a ward level estate officer had confessed the same. The civic body had removed more than 37,000 political banners since the announcement of polls.
