At least 250 people struck inside a building located in the Prahaladnagar area were rescued after a fire broke out in the basement of the four-storied structure on Wednesday afternoon.

The incident took place around 4 pm at Timber Point building. The fire brigade rushed 15 fire tenders with 100 firemen to control the situation. Within two hours of the operation, the firemen put the fire under control and rescued all the 250 people using hydraulic platforms, ladders etc. Rajesh Bhatt, Additional chief fire officer, said: "We have not been able to identify what started the fire, but we suspect that it must have been due to electric short circuit or due to fire in one of the vehicles parked in the basement of the building.

"I am proud of my team that we were able to rescue all the 250 people who were stuck inside the building," Bhat added.

In the incident, 147 vehicles parked in the basement were burnt. As per fire officials, the fire didn't spread to other floors of the building. "Our team was able to control it before it could get worse. With the smoke spreading, people panicked and they rushed to the top floor of the building," the officer said.
