The ball flies towards Nitish Rana, at backward point, who leaps a bit and reverse cups it. The Kiwi bowler is ecstatic. An ideal start for the hosts.
1.4 : 1.4: L Malinga to S Raina, FOUR OFF A NO BALL! Malinga bowls this on a length and around leg, Raina shuffles across and tickles it fine. There was a leg gully in place but to no avail. The ball races to the fence.
1.4: L Malinga to S Raina, FOUR! Raina has made full use of the Free Hit! Malinga bowls this marginally ahead of a length and it is outside off, Raina leans forward and slaps it through covers for a boundary. Don't bother chasing that.
2.1 : 2.1: M McClenaghan to B McCullum, FOUR! Baz scores his first boundary of the day. McClenaghan bowls this short and slow, around leg, McCullum swivels across and drags his pull through fine leg for a boundary.
4.4 : 4.4: J Bumrah to B McCullum, FOUR! Brilliant use of feet! Bumrah serves a length ball on sticks, McCullum dances down the track and hammers it past the bowler for a boundary. It is too straight for either of mid off or the mid on fielder.
5.2 : 5.2: L Malinga to B McCullum, SIX! Wow superb stroke! Malinga bowls a back of a length delivery in the line of the off stump, McCullum makes room for him and carves it over point for a biggie. Baz is one of the the few players who can pull off shots like these.

7.2 : 7.2: H Singh to B McCullum, FOUR! Tremendous timing! Fuller delivery around off, Brendon McCullum kneels and sweeps it beautifully through mid-wicket. There is a fielder in the deep, who hares across to stop it but fails.
8.6 : 8.6: K Pandya to B McCullum, FOUR! McCullum is moving on then! Shorter delivery around off, Brendon McCullum rocks back and times his pull nicely in front of square for a boundary. Bad end to a tidy over!
9.4 : 9.4: H Singh to B McCullum, FOUR! Brendon McCullum is picking the gaps excellently well! Harbhajan tosses this delivery outside off, McCullum kneels and sweeps it to the deep mid-wicket fence for a boundary. There was a deep square leg and long on in place but this shot pierces the gap perfectly!
11.1 : 11.1: H Singh to S Raina, OUT! In the air... gone! Raina dances down the track. Harbhajan sees that and sprays it wide outside off. Raina still goes for it. Miscues it and the ball lobs in the air. Rohit Sharma at cover-point, moves a couple of steps behind and takes an excellent catch, diving behind. The skipper departs. Much-needed breakthrough for Mumbai. That's the end of the 80-run stand.
12.5 : 12.5: J Bumrah to B McCullum, SIX! Full toss, shown the way! Bumrah gets his yorker awfully wrong. Slips in a full toss on the pads, McCullum whips it over backward square leg for a maximum. Top shot!
13.3 : 13.3: L Malinga to B McCullum, FOUR! Easy pickings! Very full, angling down leg, McCullum has to get a fine tickle to it, which he does. The placement is also very fine and Bumrah in the deep doesn't put in a dive to stop and the ball runs to the fence.
13.4 : 13.4: L Malinga to B McCullum, OUT! Malinga special! He can produce these yorkers whenever he wants and takes everyone by awe. Hurls in a yorker on middle and off, swinging in just a touch. McCullum looks to dig it out but misses and the ball goes right through his defence and knocks off the stumps. That's end of McCullum's superb innings. Big, big wicket for Mumbai.

16.3 : 16.3: J Bumrah to I Kishan, FOUR! Slower one on the pads, Kishan gets low and swipes it across through backward square leg for a boundary. First one from Kishan.

17.2 : 17.2: M McClenaghan to D Karthik, SIX! Back of a length delivery, angling across, Karthik covers his stumps and pulls it over square leg. It's flat and travels the distance. He is timing everything to perfection.
17.4 : 17.4: M McClenaghan to I Kishan, OUT! McClenaghan strikes! Back of the hand slower one, pitched short outside off, Kishan trying to find some boundaries, goes for the pull. He was never in control of that and the ball goes high in the air in the backward square leg region. Krunal Pandya there, gets underneath it and pouches it safely. The umpires check for a no ball but McClenaghan is fine. End of a 53-run stand.
18.6 : 18.6: L Malinga to J Roy, SIX! That spoils a good over! On a length around middle and off, Roy covers his stumps and heaves it over mid on. The ball goes very high and clears the fence too. That's a terrific hit from the Englishman.
19.2 : 19.2: J Bumrah to J Roy, FOUR! Good shot! Full outside off, Roy drives it with authority through mid off for a boundary. Why wasn't there a long off in place?

4.5 : 4.5: B Thampi to N Rana, SIX! Muscled! Fuller and slower delivery, outside off, Rana waits in his crease and dispatches the ball over covers for a biggie. That came off the middle and it was going in only one direction.

7.1 : 7.1: M Patel to N Rana, FOUR! Short and wide, you can expect the end of that! Rana cuts it over point for a boundary. It was hit so hard that no deep fielder could've cut it off.

8.6 : 8.6: R Jadeja to Jos Buttler, SIX! Jos the boss! Jadeja flights this delivery on the sticks, Buttler moves a bit and tonks it over long on for a maximum. Going straight is always the safe option and it gives him the wanted result.
9.2 : 9.2: A Tye to N Rana, OUT! A wicket falls against the run of the play. The change of bowling has worked for Gujarat. Tye on a length and outside off, Rana tries to cut but gets a faint edge and goes behind. Dinesh Karthik does the rest. The 85-run stand comes to an end. Nitish has played a wonderful knock but he is walking back dejected as he must have wanted to play a big knock.
11.1 : 11.1: M Patel to Jos Buttler, OUT! Buttler holes out! Back of a length slower delivery outside off, Buttler goes for the pull but is early into his shot. Miscues it towards McCullum at long on, who catches it with utter ease. Buttler is disappointed. 85 needed off 53 balls. Mind you, it's difficult for the new man to adjust.

16.4 : 16.4: A Tye to K Pollard, FOUR! Full and angling in, Pollard lofts it with the angle over wide mid on for a boundary. Pollard on fire! 25 runs are needed off 20 balls now.
18.1 : 18.1: A Tye to K Pollard, OUT! Tye strikes! That's a big, big wicket! Slower full delivery around off, Pollard lofts it with the angle. Fails to get the distance on it and the ball goes straight to Jadeja at deep mid-wicket, who doesn't make any mistake.
