At the rally, Rahul Gandhi targetted Narendra Modi and his prior rally in Mumbai where Modi had spoken about an acting university in Mumbai. He also targetted Modi for giving away land to crony industrialists. He made similar points that he had spoken about in a television interview.

Rahul Gandhi targetted Narendra Modi and his developmental claims. The Mumbai rally was being viewed as the Congress-Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) combine's show of strength in the city.

The ruling alliance, which is battling a decade-long anti-incumbency, had won all the six seats here in 2009.

In an interview with a leading newspaper, Prithviraj Chavan had targetted BJP and Narendra Modi stating that India would be ruled by an autocrat if Modi came to power

Chief minister Prithviraj Chavan has supervised the preparations for the Congress rally with all city MLAs and MPs, asking them to ensure that the rally ground was packed.
