0.0 : We have barely recovered from India's thrilling run chase in the first ODI and the second game is already upon us. England would be massively demoralized after losing in spite of scoring a massive total but they need to turn it around today. It is a do-or-die match for them as another loss would end the series for them. India, on the other hand, will aim to seal the series today with a focus to improve their bowling. WEATHER REPORT - It is scorching hot in Cuttack but expect the temperatures to cool down once the sun sets.
TOSS - Time for the spin of the coin. Virat Kohli flips it, Tails is the call from Morgan and it turns out to be Tails. ENGLAND OPT TO CHASE.
Morgan says that it looks a pretty good wicket and pretty much similar to that played in the first ODI. Stresses that in spite of the loss, the morale in the team is pretty high. Again says that the batting was not totally perfect given the dimensions of the ground. He hopes to restrict India to somewhere around 320 today. Informs that England have made one change - Adil Rashid has been left out due to the small dimensions of the ground and Liam Plunkett has been drafted in.
Kohli says that toss is not on anyone's control. He won the toss in the first ODI but ended up conceding a huge total and still, chased it down. Further says that is why you need to execute skills perfectly. On the surface, he says that it looks very good, so is looking forward to put in a good total. Terrific batting display by the hosts. Actually that is an understatement. From 25/3 to recover to post 381 is simply outstanding.
England had a great start with the ball, as Woakes removed the top order in a jiffy. But the 256-run stand between Yuvraj and Dhoni completely put England out of the game. Yuvraj was at his best, smashing 150 out of 127 balls, while Dhoni, albeit he was cramping, put in 134 of his own. The stand started at a run rate of under 4 and finished at a value of 6.67. Woakes got a 4-fer but he would have preferred to have got Yuvraj's wicket as well.
Not much to speak about the English bowlers. Apart from Woakes, no one looked threatening and only Morgan can explain why David Willey bowled only 5 overs. When everyone was getting hit, he might have as well experimented by giving the left-armer one over at least, during the Yuvi-Dhoni stand.
The pitch is flat, the ground is small, the outfield is quick and there might be dew on offer. In spite of all these factors, 382 might just be a hurdle too high for the English. Join us in a while for the run chase.
