Commentary :
0.0 : Hello and welcome to 1st Test of the three-match series between the Windies and England. The visitors come into this game in very good form in this format, whereas, the hosts are not in the best of touches. They though will want to turn it around starting from this Test, however, it won't be easy against an English side which has started to come into its own under Root's captaincy. They are favourites heading into this game but the Windies can't be ruled out especially in their own backyard.
TOSS - The Windies won the toss and elected to bat.
The players and the umpires have taken their positions post the national anthems. Kraigg Brathwaite and debutant, John Campbell to open for Windies while James Anderson has the new cherry in hand for the visitors. All set to go. Let's play...

0.5 : J Anderson to Brathwaite, Gets the perfect length this time and on top of off, KB defends not too comfortably but no scares.
0.6 : J Anderson to Brathwaite, Maiden to start off, the last one is left alone outside off.
Sam Curran to bowl from the other end.
1.1 : Sam Curran to Campbell, FOUR! What a way to start off in Test cricket. A length ball outside off, Campbell just eases this one wide of gully and the ball races to the third man boundary. Windies and John off the mark!
1.2 : Sam Curran to Campbell, Overcompensates too hard, bowls this way down leg.
1.3 : Sam Curran to Campbell, Too close for comfort! This one is just above off stump and Campbell leaves it alone. Bounces above the pole luckily for the batsman.
1.4 : Sam Curran to Campbell, Gets the right line and length this time, pushed back to the bowler.
1.5 : Sam Curran to Campbell, Fuller and on the pads, Campbell comes slightly ahead as he pushes this towards mid on.

3.5 : Sam Curran to Campbell, FOUR! Lovely looking shot from Campbell. Doesn't seem to be over-awed by the situation. A short of a length ball outside off this time, John is quick to climb and cut it away stylishly through point for a boundary. Windies flair in that shot.

4.4 : J Anderson to Campbell, Length ball on the hips, kept out towards the mid-wicket region.
4.5 : J Anderson to Campbell, How was that? An appeal from the English is turned down by Rod Tucker. Looked like it was doing a little too much to the naked eye. A full and inswinging ball on middle. Campbell misses his flick and gets rapped on the pad, a loud appeal ensues but no reaction from the umpire. The replays show that the ball would have missed leg stump.
4.6 : J Anderson to Campbell, Peach! An absolute peach from Anderson to end the over. The previous one came in and this one is on a length outside off and holds its line. Campbell tried to put bat on ball but plays for the swing and down the wrong line. The cherry whizzes past his outside edge. Brilliant last two balls from Jimmy. This would have surely put doubts in the debutant's mind.
5.1 : Sam Curran to Brathwaite, Shortish and around middle, KB keeps it out off the back foot. The ball is swinging a little, Curran needs to get it full, make use of the new ball.
5.2 : Sam Curran to Brathwaite, Perfect! Fuller in length and around off, it comes back in. Kraigg with the swing works it towards fine leg and gets to the other end.
5.3 : Sam Curran to Campbell, FOUR! Too short and it has been dispatched! Campbell picked the length early there and then pulls it over mid-wicket. It races to the fence. JC dealing in boundaries here.

10.4 : J Anderson to Brathwaite, Bouncer and it has been ducked under.
10.5 : J Anderson to Brathwaite, BEAUTY! Just too good that one. Unplayable to be honest. That started on middle and then started swinging away. Brathwaite plays inside the line, the ball whizzes past the outside edge and then goes agonizingly close past the off pole.
10.6 : J Anderson to Brathwaite, Now bowls the one that goes straight on. Brathwaite picks the variation and works it to mid-wicket.
Ben Stokes is on now.
11.1 : Ben Stokes to Campbell, Starts off with a ball on the pads, John works it to mid-wicket.
11.2 : Ben Stokes to Campbell, FOUR! If you cut, you should cut hard and that is exactly what Campbell did. It was there to be hit, short and outside off, he slashes at it with everything. The ball goes over the leaping point fielder and into the fence.
11.3 : Ben Stokes to Campbell, Corrects his length and line by bowling it on off and just behind a driving length. JC keeps it out.
11.4 : Ben Stokes to Campbell, Bowls the sucker ball full and wide outside off, Campbell resists the temptation and lets it be.
11.5 : Ben Stokes to Campbell, On the fuller side, the batter mistimes his shot to mid off.

12.2 : J Anderson to Brathwaite, On the stumps this time, KB gets right behind the line and defends it onto the ground. Good going by the two Windies openers till now.

13.2 : Ben Stokes to Campbell, FOUR! Nicely played! Waits for the ball to come to him and then guides it through the gap in the slip cordon. It goes down to the third man fence.
13.3 : Ben Stokes to Campbell, This is fired on off, Campbell keeps it out. He has looked good until now.
13.4 : Ben Stokes to J Campbell, Fuller in length this time, the batter strokes it to mid off. He is a tad late on the shots he has played in this over.

Drinks break. A solid hour for the hosts, they have done well to not lose a wicket. There have been a few plays and misses but the important fact is no breakthroughs for the English. The debutant has looked good as well. Expect spin to come on soon.

16.5 : M Ali to Brathwaite, Flatter and on middle, it is flicked towards mid-wicket with the turn.
16.6 : M Ali to Brathwaite, Tosses it up on off, Brathwaite covers the stumps and blocks it. 9 from Ali's first, an expensive start by him.
17.1 : Ben Stokes to J Campbell, FOUR! Oozing in confidence is the debutant! That has been creamed! Into the 40s is John. Full and outside off, Campbell strokes it through covers and you need not run for those.
17.2 : Ben Stokes to Campbell, On the shorter side and on the body, even before Campbell swivels to pull, the ball hits him on the thigh pad and rolls towards fine leg. A leg bye taken. However, the umpire has signaled it as a dead ball as he feels the batsman did not offer a shot.

17.6 : Ben Stokes to K Brathwaite, FOUR! 50 up! Ideal start by the openers. A boundary to bring up the 50-run stand. It is not off the middle though. No gully however so it races to the fence. Full and wide outside off, Brathwaite goes after it, he gets an outside edge and the ball crosses the third man fence.
18.1 : M Ali to Campbell, OUT! Plumb in front! The debutant goes 6 shy of a fifty. He was going for his shots and eventually that brings about his downfall as he went for one too many. A full and flighted ball on middle, Campbell goes for the sweep but misses it and gets rapped bang in front of middle. The umpire has no hesitation and raises his finger immediately. The debutant started walking away immediately and with good reason too. It would have been a waste of a review had it been taken as r

20.3 : M Ali to S Hope, Another quick single, would have been really tight had mid on hit this time. Uneccessary that, from Windies. Looked like Hope was desperate to get off the mark and hence ran.
20.4 : M Ali to Brathwaite, Defended by the batsman coming ahead.
20.5 : M Ali to Brathwaite, SIX! Bratwaite seems to have seen enough now. Comes down the track and lofts this over deep mid-wicket. The ball lands just outside the rope. The first maximum of the game. Moves into the 20s does Kraigg.

An excellent session for the Windies, everything right from the toss has gone their way till now. They elected to bat and their openers gave them the ideal start adding 53. It was the debutant, Campbell who did majority of the scoring but missed out on a well-deserved half ton. Hope then carried on the good work and he with Brathwaite who is started to get into his own now are amidst a good stand. Windies would hope the two can continue and build a big stand.
The visitors on the other hand, did not look at their best. There was swing on offer earlier for their bowlers but they could not capitalize. Moeen Ali is the sole wicket-taker but has not looked that threatening since. England will hope for a few quick wickets after the break. Do join us to find out who dominates Session 2.

67.4 : J Anderson to S Hetmyer, DROPPED! Easy chance that! Windies could have, actually should have been five down. Buttler is the culprit. It is just ahead of a length outside off, Hetmyer tries to drive it on the up, he does so uppishly towards short cover. Buttler there dives to his right and gets two hands to it but fails to hang on. Hetmyer would like to make this reprieve count. The batsmen take a run.

68.5 : M Ali to Hetmyer, SIX! Jos Buttler won't enjoy watching this but we surely enjoyed this shot. Hetmyer uses his feet for the third time in a row, this time gets to the pitch of it and lofts it over the long on fence. This is how he plays, he stays for longer, we are in for some entertainment.
68.6 : M Ali to Hetmyer, Now strokes this down to long on and takes a run. Smart batting.
Drinks break. Half of the lengthy third session has been played. England will be delighted to have gotten Shai Hope's wicket but will like a few more in the remaining overs. 71.6 : A Rashid to S Hetmyer, FOUR! It just gets even better now. Short and wide from Rashid, looked like the one that goes the other way. Hetmyer cuts it very late and towards the vacant deep backward point boundary. James Anderson tries to come around from deep cover but cannot reach the ball even with a dive. Big over for the Windies, 16 off it in the end.

Rashid gets a finger tip on it and it hits the stumps at the non-striker's end. Luckily though for Windies, Hetmyer is not backing up and his bat is grounded in the crease. The green signal flashes.
Run-out appeal from the bowler as he gets a fingertip on a very straight drive from the batsman and angles it onto the stumps...It has been taken upstairs. It seemed that Hetmyer had his bat in the crease all along though.

The second new ball is now available. The English side are seen in a huddle and now it Anderson who comes into the attack. Also, the second new ball has been taken. Not sure what the meeting was about, maybe a discussion whether to take the second new cherry or now.

82.5 : J Anderson to R Chase, OUT! Chase is out of here! Anderson strikes in his second over with the second new ball. He is a class act this guy. The last one came back in sharply, this one goes away and Chase had no answers to it. The length and line is also immaculate. Around off and just behind the driving length. Chase is half forward as he tries to defend. The ball takes the outside edge and goes at a comfortable height to Joe Root at first slip. He takes it with ease. Chase starts walking
Shane Dowrich is in at number 7.

83.6 : Sam Curran to Hetmyer, FOUR! Dismissed! A length ball on the off stump line, Hetmyer just punches it back down towards long on. No one moved. The ball reaches the fence. Brilliant batting this. The 250 comes up for the hosts with that shot. 10 runs off that over, an expensive one from Curran.
84.1 : J Anderson to Dowrich, Good length and on middle, it is worked to mid on.
84.2 : J Anderson to Dowrich, JAFFA! Banana swing there. Length which starts on middle, it shapes away and beats the outside edge of the bat. Beautiful seam position on that delivery and the curve on the ball was also delightful to watch.

84.4 : J Anderson to Dowrich, Good length outside off, left alone.
84.5 : J Anderson to Dowrich, Once again it is on off, Dowrich strokes it to covers.
84.6 : J Anderson to Dowrich, OUT! In the air... gone! Another one bites the dust and once again, England manage to take two in quick succession. The decision of taking the second new ball is proving to be a master stroke here. The leg cutter from Anderson, it is on middle, it takes off after pitching. Dowrich initially thinks of pulling but then seeing the extra bounce, takes his eyes off the ball. It hits the upper part of the bat and lobs towards the slip cordon. Buttler from third slip runs i
Jason Holder, the skipper walks in next. Also, Ben Stokes will bowl the next over. Only two overs with the new ball for Curran.

Ben Stokes to Hetmyer, Fuller one outside off, Shimron drives it straight to the cover fielder.
85.2 : Ben Stokes to Hetmyer, FOUR! Does not time this one too well but the ball goes wide of the cover fielder and runs away to the fence. The third man fielder cannot come around. It brings up the FIFTY for Hetmyer. His fifth in Test cricket. A great innings so far but he should not throw it away like the guys before him.
85.3 : Ben Stokes to Hetmyer, On the pads this time, flicked away wristily for a single to deep mid-wicket.
85.4 : Stokes to Holder, Another full length ball on middle, Holder looked to flick that one but missed to get hit high on the pads.
85.5 : Ben Stokes to Holder, This time Jason works it away through the square leg region for a single.
85.6 : Ben Stokes to S Hetmyer, Very full ball outside off, SH drives this but cannot find the gap through the covers.
86.1 : J Anderson to Holder, Excellent! Continues bowling in the corridor of uncertainty. Holder defends it out.
86.2 : J Anderson to Holder, FOUR! Uppish but a boundary. Holder uses his long reach and then drives it square on the off side. A huge gap there and a boundary results.
86.3 : J Anderson to J Holder, Edged but once again it falls short. On a length and around off, Holder looks to defend but due to the away movement. The ball takes the outside edge and goes on the bounce to second slip.
86.4 : J Anderson to Holder, The batsman shows the full face of the bat and defends the ball off the back foot.
86.5 : J Anderson to Holder, On off, kept out.
86.6 : Anderson to Holder, OUT! Anderson is on fire here! The Windies batsman are now falling like nine pins. Four-fer for Jimmy and it is his third with the second new ball. He goes full again around off, Holder looks to drive but then checks his shot, maybe because he wasn't to the pitch of the delivery. Ends up chipping it to the right of Anderson who takes a sharp catch in his followthrough. The Windies have completely lost their way here. England now into the tail.

89.2 : Ben Stokes to K Roach, OUT! Stokes strikes now in the last over of the day! A brute of a delivery this one. It is banged in slightly short, takes off after pitching. Roach looks to defend but can't get on top of the bounce. It hits the handle and goes straight into the hands of Root at first slip. His third catch. Roach walks back and with him so do the other players and the umpires as IT IS STUMPS ON DAY 1!
This session - 37.3 overs, 132 runs and 5 wickets. What a turnaround we saw in this last session, actually in the last 10 overs I should say. It was all going smoothly for the hosts when Hetmyer and Chase were going along pretty well but then England decided to take the second new ball and then it was all about them. Anderson took three in no time and then Stokes chipped in with one. Barrage of wickets towards the end sees the day belong to the visitors.
Windies on the other hand will be disappointed with where they have finished Day 1. They won a good toss and elected to bat, everyone in their top order except for Bravo came to the fore. They seemed like they would get a very good first innings score but they needed someone to score a big one. However, their batters failed to do so, everybody got starts but could not covert and 4 wickets for 24 right at the end suddenly finds the hosts in trouble.
For England, it was hard work for their bowlers today. Anderson was exceptional and was the pick of the bowlers with a four-fer. He was well-supported by Stokes who bowled his heart out and ended with a three-fer. The rest though weren't at their best, not only did they struggle to take wickets but also went for runs. It would have been a different story had they bowled well too.
What can we now expect on Day 2? England continuing their domination or the Windies fighting back? Well, they still have Hetmyer out there and they would hope he could somehow take them close to the 300-run mark. England on the other hand, will want to wrap this up quickly and then bat well. The wicket played well throughout but showed signs of quickening up towards the end. Windies won't mind that though as they have four pacers in their rank. We witnessed an exciting day of cricket today and w
... Day 2, Session 1 ...
After a see-saw first day, it is the visitors who head into Day 2 with their noses in front. They now have two wickets to take and they would look to pick it as quickly as possible. The hosts on the other hand, do have Hetmyer out there. One would expect him to come out and look for some quick runs. The hosts would hope he can take them close to the 300-run mark. The wicket did show signs of quickening up toward the end of yesterday. It will be interesting to see how it plays today.
The fielders are in position so are the umpires. Alzarri Joseph walks in at number 10 and will take strike against Ben Stokes who has four balls to go in his over.
89.3 : Ben Stokes to Joseph, Lots of inswing first up, but the ball was hurled down the leg side. No problem for the no.10 batsman as he lets it go.

91.4 : Ben Stokes to Hetmyer, A length ball just on top of off stump, defended back down towards the bowler.

92.4 : Anderson to Hetmyer, FOUR! Smashed back over the bowler's head! Stand and deliver stuff from the southpaw. A full length ball just outside off, the typical Windies flair comes out as he lofts it right back over the head of the bowler for a boundary.
92.5 : J Anderson to Hetmyer, Driven through the covers this time for a single to deep cover. Hetmyer leaves Joseph with one ball to play.
92.6 : J Anderson to Joseph, Easily defends this full one on middle does Alzarri.

93.6 : Ben Stokes to Joseph, A length ball on middle kept out successfully by Joseph to end the over.
94.1 : J Anderson to Hetmyer, Hetmyer chases after this ball wide outside off but misses the ball.
94.2 : J Anderson to Hetmyer, Shimron has played that off the front foot and onto the ground.
94.3 : J Anderson to Hetmyer, Another big shot attempted to a very wide ball outside off. Hetmyer connects only with thin air once more. Looks like a set plan from Anderson.
94.4 : J Anderson to Hetmyer, Gets to the other end with two balls to go this time. A length ball on off pushed back to long off for a run by Hetmyer.
94.5 : J Anderson to Joseph, Swinging fuller length delivery outside off, left alone by Joseph.
94.6 : J Anderson to Joseph, Yorker speared in on the base of off stump, dug out well by Alzarri. Not yet off the mark though.

95.2 : Ben Stokes to S Hetmyer, A fuller length delivery on off stump, pushed back towards mid off by SH.
95.3 : Ben Stokes to Hetmyer, FOUR! Brilliant placement from Hetmyer here. A length ball on off stump, Shimron lifts it over the head of an extra cover present but well wide of long off. Runs into the fence after a couple of bounces.
95.4 : Ben Stokes to Hetmyer, Left alone outside the off stump this time.
95.5 : Ben Stokes to Hetmyer, Good bouncer! Aims this short delivery on the rib region, Hetmyer is really uncomfortable and tries to fend it off uncomfortably. The ball takes the gloves but luckily, it does not carry to the keeper behind.
95.6 : Ben Stokes to Hetmyer, Another one with good spice here! Bounces a lot and is aimed at the head of the batsman. Tries to fend it off once more but gets a very faint tickle off the glove that carries over the head of the keeper. Goes behind for a single. Replays show that there was daylight between the bat and ball though, but it was given as runs.
96.1 : J Anderson to S Hetmyer, FOUR! Another lucky one for the southpaw. Bowls this outside off, Hetmyer goes for an expansive cover drive. The ball though takes the outside edge and goes over the head of the slip cordon for a boundary. Windies riding their luck here.
96.2 : J Anderson to Hetmyer, A front foot defense attempted by Shimron but the ball takes the inside edge and goes onto the pads.
96.3 : J Anderson to Hetmyer, Left alone by SH outside off on this occasion.
96.4 : J Anderson to S Hetmyer, The batsman has driven it through mid on and they have run through for a single.
96.5 : Anderson to Joseph, Hit on the pads but the ball was doing too much this time. Height was a factor too on this length ball that landed outside off and came in a long way. Joseph looked to defend the ball but missed it to get hit on his pads.
96.6 : J Anderson to Joseph, Much better defensive technique this time from Alzarri.
97.1 : Ben Stokes to Hetmyer, A fuller length ball outside off, Hetmyer comes ahead and defends the ball onto the ground.
97.2 : Ben Stokes to Hetmyer, Full toss but Hetmyer misses out this time. Mistimes his attempted lofted shot towards mid-wicket. The ball runs towards the bowler.
97.3 : Ben Stokes to Hetmyer, Brilliant effort from Rory Burns, the substitute fielder. Hetmyer cuts this one very late and places it wide of third man to his left. The fielder runs and dives before stopping the ball. Saves three there as the batsmen stopped running after one looking at the ball. Poor cricket from the Windies.
97.4 : Ben Stokes to Joseph, Joseph stands in his crease and defends this ball towards short leg.
97.5 : Ben Stokes to Joseph, Very wide outside off, Alzarri goes after the ball but cannot get bat on ball.
97.6 : Ben Stokes to Joseph, Beaten! This is a better ball just outside off and moving away slightly, Joseph plays inside the line and is beaten on the outside.
98.1 : J Anderson to Hetmyer, Wide outside off and moving even further away, Shimron chases after the ball looking to cut but can't connect.
98.2 : J Anderson to Hetmyer, Hetmyer is living a charmed life here. Goes for a lofted shot over mid off to this ball outside off on a fuller length. Gets a thick outside edge but the ball goes over first slip. There is a very fine third man who stops the ball. The single is not taken though.
98.3 : J Anderson to Hetmyer, The batsman shoulders arms to let that one through.
98.4 : J Anderson to Hetmyer, Another ball outside off that is left alone by the southpaw.
98.5 : J Anderson to Hetmyer, Wide outside off, guided towards the third man for a single by Shimron.
98.6 : J Anderson to Joseph, As has been the case all morning, Joseph keeps out the last ball of the over well as he defends this length ball on middle from the crease.
99.1 : Ben Stokes to Hetmyer, Outside edge from Hetmyer once more but this time the ball runs all along the ground wide of the slip present. Third man stops the ball but there is no single taken by the batsmen.
99.2 : Ben Stokes to Hetmyer, Peach! Lovely shape from Stokes on this ball. Landed it on middle and got it to swing away and beat the outside edge of Shimron who was trying to defend from the crease.
99.3 : Ben Stokes to Hetmyer, Length ball on the middle, pushed to cover.
Hetmyer has been caught behind and it has been given out by the umpire. There was surely some sort of noise on that but the batsman has taken it upstairs for some reason. Maybe he feels he has not touched it. Let's wait for the replays.
99.4 : Stokes to Hetmyer, NOT OUT! Ultra Edge shows nothing there! So not sure what the sound was. Shimron survives to fight another day. Excellent use of the review from him. This is a short delivery outside off. Hetmyer tries to guide it down to third man. There is a noise as the ball passes the bat, an appeal follows and the umpire raises his finger. SH reviews straightaway. Replays roll in and it shows that there was no bat involved.
99.5 : Ben Stokes to S Hetmyer, A bumper now on middle, Hetmyer evades it.
99.6 : Ben Stokes to Hetmyer, FOUR! Into the 80s is Hetmyer. However, he would have preferred a single here. This is short again on middle, Hetmyer makes room and then flat-bats it over the bowler's head. Safest area to hit as there is no fielder. A boundary.
100.1 : J Anderson to Joseph, Fuller length ball outside off, driven back towards the cover fielder by Joseph.
100.2 : J Anderson to Joseph, Hurls this one on a length down the leg side, left alone by the batsman this time.
100.3 : J Anderson to Joseph, Just short of a good length above middle stump, Alzarri trusts the bounce and lets it go.
100.4 : J Anderson to A Joseph, OUT! There it is. That is the breakthrough and also the fifth wicket for Anderson. The 27th time he has done in Tests. A typical Jimmy wicket, bowls this one on a good length outside off and makes it tail away very slightly. Too good for the number 10 batsman who pokes at the ball. The ball goes to Buttler at third slip in a good height. He pouches it easily and England after a frustrating 10 overs have finally broken through. The stand worth 25 has ended.
Shannon Gabriel is the last man to walk in.
100.5 : J Anderson to Gabriel, Length ball on middle, a front foot defense by Gabriel back towards the bowler.
100.6 : J Anderson to Gabriel, Well outside off to end the over, left alone by the no. 11 bat.
101.1 : Ben Stokes to Hetmyer, Short of a length ball on middle, Hetmyer was lining up for a big shot but decides against it in the end.
101.2 : Ben Stokes to Hetmyer, Aimed at the hips once more, flicked away to fine leg by the southpaw but the single is not taken.
101.3 : Ben Stokes to Hetmyer, OUT! Gone! No hundred for Hetmyer. Caught behind acrobatically by Foakes diving to his left. A fuller length ball on leg and moving away from the lefty, he goes for the full throttle and gives a wild slog. The ball takes the outside edge and it flies to the left of Foakes who takes a lovely catch. Stokes ends with four wickets of his own. WINDIES END ON 289. The last 5 batsmen together have contributed exactly 5 runs from their willows. 3 ducks and the number 11 not
The English side are seen walking off with happy faces and they are led off the field by the pacer who bagged a fifer here, James Anderson. A standing ovation for him by the crowd and he deserves every bit of it.
Windies though did manage to add a few handy runs this morning but they will be disappointed with their overall performance. One can say they finish with a score slightly under par but they should have had a lot more especially after their top order batted well. 40s from their openers and 50-plus scores from Hetmyer, Chase and Hope saw them well-placed at 240 for 4.
The second new ball though changed things as Anderson then came to life. He was well supported by Stokes, the two combined took 9 amongst them. From 240 for 4 the hosts got bundled out for 289. However, it is a competitive total but they will have to bowl well. England on the other hand, will need to bat well and probably take the lead. The wicket does have something on offer for the pacers but is not a bad one to bat on. The home side has 4 good pacers in their ranks and we can surely expect an
