Match over
0.1 : 0.1: T Boult to R Sharma, EDGED AND FOUR! Would you believe it? The first ball goes in through the gap between the keeper and the wide slip. A length ball way outside off to start off with, Rohit pushes at it lazily and gets a genuine outside edge. The ball flies to the right of the keeper who can't reach that one. Goes fine for a boundary.
1.6 : 1.6: D Bracewell to S Dhawan, FOUR! Easy pickings for the southpaw. Hurls this one on the pads and on length, Dhawan glances it really fine on the leg side and the fine leg fielder cannot come around. Seven off this over, a good one for the Indians.
2.2 : 2.2: T Boult to R Sharma, FOUR! Lovely shot! You will always get four runs on this outfield. Boult pitches it up and around off, Sharma is forward with a straight bat and drives it back past his partner for a boundary down the ground.
3.3 : 3.3: D Bracewell to R Sharma, FOUR! The Hitman mode activated on this one! A length ball on off, nothing too wrong with the ball. Rohit though, dances down the track and makes some room before driving it hard through the extra cover region for a boundary. Lovely on the eye, that.
4.2 : 4.2: T Boult to S Dhawan, FOUR! Trent is looking to get Dhawan trapped in front here but bowls this too straight on the pads, Shikhar just flicks it away through mid-wicket. The outfield is quite quick and the ball races away to the fence.
5.6 : 5.6: D Bracewell to R Sharma, FOUR! Ruins what would have been a really good over. A short length ball, nothing on it and Rohit pulls it away easily through square leg for a boundary. The pressure of 5 dot balls gets off.
7.4 : 7.4: D Bracewell to S Dhawan, FOUR! That is surely out of the middle though. A length ball not too wide outside off but Dhawan just quite brilliantly times this one in front of point. No stopping those.
8.2 : 8.2: L Ferguson to R Sharma, FOUR! You do not bowl there at the Hitman, even if you are quick. A bumper on middle, Rohit reads the length immediately and pulls it away over square leg for a boundary. Brilliant shot considering the pace, 148.8 kph!
8.6 : 8.6: L Ferguson to S Dhawan, FOUR! Too full that one and Dhawan times it past mid on for a boundary. Nine off this over. A good one for the visitors.
9.2 : 9.2: D Bracewell to R Sharma, FOUR! How does this guy have so much time to play his shots? Comes down the ground and converts this one into a half-volley. Smashes it over the head of cover-point for a boundary.
12.4 : 12.4: Ish Sodhi to R Sharma, SIX! Up and just over mid-wicket! Sodhi drops a googly on the shorter side, Rohit uses the depth of his crease, goes deep inside it and pulls it over mid-wicket. Ferguson in the deep initially looks to run forward but then moves back, tries to take the catch over his head but it sails over. Had he stayed on the edge of the fence, he would have taken the catch. Misjudgement on his part.
13.1 : 13.1: de Grandhomme to S Dhawan, FOUR! Easy going for India! De Grandhomme begins the over with a short delivery wide outside off, Dhawan cracks it off his back foot and it flies past the point fielder for a boundary. The replays show that Guptill there got some hand on it. Harsh to call it a dropped catch though.
13.5 : 13.5: de Grandhomme to S Dhawan, FOUR! Second in the over! Poor delivery, full and angling down the leg side, Dhawan picks it off his pads and whips it down to fine leg for a boundary. No chance for the fielder in the deep.
17.6 : 17.6: L Ferguson to R Sharma, SIX! Fighting fire with fire! Quicker you bowl, faster you travel. Ferguson dishes out a sharp short ball on middle, Rohit rides the bounce and dismisses it over square leg via a thunderous pull shot for a biggie. 38th ODI fifty for Ro, his third versus the Kiwis. The 100-run stand comes up as well.
19.1 : 19.1: L Ferguson to R Sharma, SIX! Not from the middle of the bat but it still travels all the way. That's another disadvantage of being a fast bowler. You offer pace and run the risk of assisting the shots. Rohit top edges his attempted pull shot and it flies over fine leg for a maximum.
20.5 : 20.5: de Grandhomme to S Dhawan, FOUR! Over-corrects his line this time, bowls it too straight and Dhawan clips it wide of short fine leg for a boundary. It scoots away even before the fielder reacts to his right.
20.6 : 20.6: de Grandhomme to S Dhawan, FOUR! Another poor delivery, on the pads and Dhawan has no qualms in nudging it past the left side of the short fine leg fielder. 22 from last two overs!
21.1 : 21.1: T Boult to R Sharma, FOUR! Hat-trick of boundaries for India! Boult runs in and bowls a length ball outside off, Sharma goes the aerial route and lofts it over covers for a boundary.
21.2 : 21.2: T Boult to R Sharma, FOUR! Make it 4 in 4 for the Men in Blue. They are certainly going strongly at the moment. Back of a length delivery angling into the batsman from 'round the wicket, Rohit gets inside the bounce and helps his pull shot through square leg. No chance for fine leg to cut it off.
22.3 : 22.3: C Munro to S Dhawan, FOUR! Full and spraying down the leg side, all too easy for Dhawan who sits down on one knee and powers his sweep behind square leg.
24.2 : 24.2: C Munro to R Sharma, FOUR! 150-RUN OPENING STAND IS UP! Short and outside off, Rohit flashes the cut and gets it through point this time for a boundary! 5th 150-plus stand for this prolific pair.
25.2: T Boult to S Dhawan, OUT! Edged and taken! New Zealand strike at last. Dhawan is gone. No 200-run opening stand. But what a prolific start for India. Not the greatest of deliveries, short and wide outside off and Dhawan rightfully slashes hard. But somehow, don't know how, he gets an outside edge. Was he beaten by pace? Did he have to reach out for the ball? Ahh... we get the reason. No footwork. He just slashed at it flat-footed. The ball went behind but Tom Latham dived to his left and t
27.3 : 27.3: L Ferguson to V Kohli, FOUR! MARVELLOUS! That is special. Overpitched outside off, Kohli leans into the shot and drives it through the covers. No need to run. First boundary for the skipper.
27.5 : 27.5: L Ferguson to V Kohli, FOUR! Aha... there is this advert featuring Kohli in India wherein he tells the bowler, 'Last ball I could not see, next ball you will not see.' Here we can rephrase it to - 'Last ball you smiled, this ball I will smile.' A nothing delivery, short and on middle, Virat just helps it to the fine leg fence.
29.3 : 29.3: L Ferguson to R Sharma, OUT! In the air, in the air, in the air... and taken! The short ball does the trick for Lockie. In his previous spell, his bouncers were going for sixes. That time, we were wondering, why bowl short to Ro? But this time it works. Because of the change in pace. Smart bowling. It is a leg cutter and Rohit, initially looking to pull, ends up helping it in the end. He hits it too well for his liking and Colin de Grandhomme is waiting at deep mid-wicket. Runs in slightly
30.3: D Bracewell to V Kohli, FOUR! PRISTINE! Kohli is up and running. Second cover drive of the day for him. Half volley outside off, the captain leans and drives it through the covers.
31.5 : 31.5: L Ferguson to A Rayudu, FOUR! Not in control. A short ball, down the leg side, Rayudu looks to pull but the ball goes off the bottom part of the bat, past the diving Latham to the fine leg fence.
31.6 : 31.6: L Ferguson to A Rayudu, FOUR! In total control this time. A length ball, on middle and leg, placed down the ground. No mid on and that is another boundary.
34.1 : 34.1: D Bracewell to V Kohli, FOUR! That is a cracking shot to begin the post-break session. A length ball, outside off, Kohli comes down the track and slaps it over mid off. One bounce and into the extra cover boundary. 200 UP FOR INDIA.
34.2 : 34.2: D Bracewell to V Kohli, FOUR! CLUBBED! Hit with total disdain. A short ball, down the leg side, Kohli swivels and pulls it through long leg. Lockie Ferguson races to his right and dives but in vain.
37.6 : 37.6: de Grandhomme to A Rayudu, SIX! CLUNK! Clean hitting. Full and outside off, Rayudu gets down and sweeps it massively over mid-wicket!
39.1 : 39.1: T Boult to V Kohli, OUT! Caught! The short ball consumes Kohli again! Last match it was Lockie Ferguson. This match it is Boult. Banged in on middle, Kohli looks to pull but the rising bounce consumes him. A top edge is induced and Ish Sodhi does really well racing to his right from long leg, sliding across and taking the catch. Third consecutive dismissal in the 40s for the Indian skipper. Big wicket for the Kiwis.
41.1: T Boult to MS Dhoni, FOUR! Cracking shot! Good length delivery outside off, angling away, Dhoni hangs back packs a punch through covers. Finds the gap perfectly and gets a boundary. A good start to the over.
41.3 : 41.3: T Boult to A Rayudu, FOUR! Shot! The length is short this time, in the line of the stumps, Rayudu advances down the track and muscles it over mid off for a powerful boundary.
45.4 : 45.4: L Ferguson to A Rayudu, OUT! Caught and bowled! Ferguson steams in from 'round the wicket and bangs in a short ball around off at 146 kph. Rayudu shuffles across the stumps and tries to pull it across the line. But the ball jumps onto him extra and catches the top edge. Lockie settles underneath it in his followthrough and takes the skier safely to his right. A knock on the slower side by Rayudu.
45.5 : 45.5: L Ferguson to MS Dhoni, EDGY FOUR! Doesn't matter how they come at this stage. Ferguson continues from the 'round the wicket angle and serves a full ball wide outside off. Dhoni throws his bat at it and it flies off the outside edge to the third man fence.
46.1 : 46.1: T Boult to MS Dhoni, FOUR! Perfect start to the over for India. Boult dishes out a short delivery and Dhoni punishes it by pulling it in front of square leg for a boundary.
47.1: L Ferguson to MS Dhoni, DROPPED AND FOUR! Short in length and wide outside off, MSD just uses the pace of the bowler and lofts it over point. De Grandhomme comes rushing across to his left from sweeper cover, gets there in time, tries to catch but spills it. The ball drops once before going past the rope. This can prove costly!
48.1: T Boult to K Jadhav, FOUR! Nicely done! Third over in a row has begun with a boundary. Full in length and around leg, Jadhav shuffles across and whips it fine down the leg side for a boundary. Good start for India, can they score big in this over?
48.5 : 48.5: T Boult to MS Dhoni, SIX! Muscled away! Boult bangs in a short ball and Dhoni immediately gets on top of the bounce. He brings out his pull shot and dispatches it over square leg for a biggie. A much-needed one for India. 300 up for India!
49.1 : 49.1: L Ferguson to K Jadhav, FOUR! Another over beginning with a boundary! Full toss outside off, Jadhav reaches out for it and slaps it over cover-point for a boundary.
49.2 : 49.2: L Ferguson to K Jadhav, SIX! This has gone the distance! Superb start for India in the last over. A touch short and on middle, Jadhav moves inside the line and thwacks it over fine leg for a biggie.
49.3 : 49.3: L Ferguson to K Jadhav, FOUR! 14 runs so far. Jadhav once again uses the pace of the bowler. Just stays back and runs it down in front of the keeper. Latham fails to collect it cleanly and it races behind for a boundary.
49.5 : 49.5: L Ferguson to MS Dhoni, FOUR! 50-run stand is up! Can Dhoni get to his fifty as well? Short and wide outside off, Dhoni jumps on the back foot and whacks it over covers for a boundary.
0.6 : 0.6: B Kumar to C Munro, FOUR! 7 from the first over. Kumar offers width outside off and Munro needs no second invitation. He latches onto it and punches it through cover-point for a boundary.
2.3 : 2.3: B Kumar to M Guptill, Inside edge... FOUR! Lucky for Guptill. Could have easily dragged it on. Need that fortune early in your innings. Full and outside off, Guptill tries to drive it through covers but it takes a thick inside edge, beats the stumps and hurries past short fine leg for a boundary.
2.4 : 2.4: B Kumar to M Guptill, FOUR! That's hit right out of the screws! Bhuvi angles in a length ball on middle, Guptill picks it off his pads and lofts it over mid-wicket for a boundary. There is a sweeper in the deep but he can only retrieve it from the rope.
4.6 : 4.6: B Kumar to M Guptill, OUT! Caught at third man. Short ball does the trick here for Kumar. He dishes it outside off and Guptill stands back to play the ramp shot. Times it well but not well enough to take it over the fielder in the deep. Chahal does well to hang onto the catch after juggling a bit initially. 302 needed off 270 balls.
6.3 : 6.3: B Kumar to C Munro, SIX! This has gone the distance! Kumar alters his length and goes short around leg, Munro tries to pull but it gathers the top edge and flies all the way over fine leg for a biggie. First of the innings.
7.1 : 7.1: M Shami to K Williamson, SIX.
