0.0 : A lovely day welcomes us at the Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui. The home ground of the Kiwi skipper, Kane Williamson is the venue for the second ODI. Outclassed in the first game, the Kiwis will be hurting and licking their wounds, eyeing a comeback in this one. It won't be easy against the mighty Indian side, which is looking pretty well-oiled. Should be a cracker, can the home team pull up their socks and put up a better performance here where the visitors are going to be playing for the first time
TOSS - Heads is the call from Virat Kohli, he wins the toss and ELECTS TO BAT FIRST.
Virat Kohli says that he wants to work on and strengthen the batting first template. He believes that his team chases well and they want to do this as well. About the team, he says that there is always room for improvement despite them playing really well in the previous game. Mentions that India will be unchanged.
Kane Williamson says he would have looked to bowl first but maybe 50-50. Hopes that they can get some work done first up with the surface being sprinkly early on and it having some grass on it. Says that the team will look to take inspiration from the wins against Sri Lanka here and try to emulate those performances. Has a couple of changes in his team with Ish Sodhi and Colin de Grandhomme coming in, replacing Mitchell Santner and Tim Southee.
PITCH REPORT - Sunil Gavaskar with Simon Doull with the pitch report. The latter has a look at the pitch and says that it is similar to the surfaces that were produced here against Sri Lanka. Feels that it is a lovely hard deck with a good covering of grass holding it together nicely. Mentions that the Indian bowling attack is a much better one than their island neighbors. The Indian legend reckons that the strong breeze blowing across the stadium should be considered before playing the shots. T
The players are out in the middle for the national anthems. First up, the Indian one. A lovely sight this, especially considering the occasion as well. The New Zealand national anthem comes next. Loud cheers follow it.
Fielders in position, Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma out in the middle to open for India. The latter will face Trent Boult who has the first new ball. A wide slip in place for the left-arm quick. Looking forward to a cracking game, let's play!
0.1 : T Boult to R Sharma, EDGED AND FOUR! Would you believe it? The first ball goes in through the gap between the keeper and the wide slip. A length ball way outside off to start off with, Rohit pushes at it lazily and gets a genuine outside edge. The ball flies to the right of the keeper who can't reach that one. Goes fine for a boundary.
0.2 : T Boult to R Sharma, Beaten! This is lovely from Boult. Slightly short of a length outside off and comes in a little. Rohit stands tall and tries to put bat on ball but is beaten on the outside.
0.3 : T Boult to R Sharma, Much better from the Indian opening batsman, lets this one go outside his off stump.
0.4 : T Boult to R Sharma, Another play and a miss! A length ball outside off and shaping in a bit, Rohit plays inside the line once more and is beaten.
0.5 : T Boult to R Sharma, Shoulders arms to this ball outside the off stump.
0.6 : T Boult to R Sharma, Ooh! Just short of the second slip. A short length ball outside off, Rohit tries to defend this ball but gets a thick outside edge that goes on a bounce to the second slip. Really good, probing over from Boult. 4 off it in the end.

1.6 : D Bracewell to S Dhawan, FOUR! Easy pickings for the southpaw. Hurls this one on the pads and on length, Dhawan glances it really fine on the leg side and the fine leg fielder cannot come around. Seven off this over, a good one for the Indians.
2.1 : T Boult to R Sharma, Angles across a good length ball outside off, Rohit makes a watchful leave.
2.2 : T Boult to R Sharma, FOUR! Lovely shot! You will always get four runs on this outfield. Boult pitches it up and around off, Sharma is forward with a straight bat and drives it back past his partner for a boundary down the ground.
2.3 : T Boult to R Sharma, Boult returns to his line outside off and serves it on a length, unlike the last over from Trent, Rohit is quite assured now as he shoulders arms.

3.1 : D Bracewell to S Dhawan, Almost played on! A length ball on top of off stump, Dhawan was looking to angle that away to third man for a single but the slight inswing causes the ball to take the inside edge and go whizzing past the leg stump. A single down to fine leg ensues.
3.2 : D Bracewell to R Sharma, Shorter one on the pads, Rohit works it towards square leg and yells out a loud 'NO'.
3.3 : D Bracewell to R Sharma, FOUR! The Hitman mode activated on this one! A length ball on off, nothing too wrong with the ball. Rohit though, dances down the track and makes some room before driving it hard through the extra cover region for a boundary. Lovely on the eye, that.

4.4 : T Boult to S Dhawan, Good-looking push from Dhawan past mid on for a couple of runs. Nice to watch this, the presentation of the straight bat.
4.5 : T Boult to S Dhawan, The batsman lets the ball go outside his off stump.
4.6 : T Boult to S Dhawan, Left alone outside the off stump once more by the southpaw. He initially was shaping up for a square cut. Six runs off this Boult over.

5.2 : D Bracewell to R Sharma, Lovely looking shot for no run. Length ball on off, not doing much. The back foot push comes out from Rohit but he finds the point fielder.
5.3 : D Bracewell to R Sharma, Beauty! Gets this one a little further up than the previous one. Finds the shape once more and it causes the ball to beat the outside edge of Rohit. Good bowling that.
5.4 : D Bracewell to R Sharma, A little bit of impatience from Rohit here. Looks to make some room and cut this away hard but fails to time the ball well. It rolls towards the off side.
5.5 : D Bracewell to R Sharma, Slightly fuller length ball on off stump and swinging away, Sharma comes ahead and defends the ball towards cover.
5.6 : D Bracewell to R Sharma, FOUR! Ruins what would have been a really good over. A short length ball, nothing on it and Rohit pulls it away easily through square leg for a boundary. The pressure of 5 dot balls gets off.
Lockie Ferguson is now into the attack.
6.1 : L Ferguson to S Dhawan, Brilliant yorker! The fuller length ball first up and gets it almost on the crease, Dhawan looks to jam it out but fails to put bat on ball. It was very close to the off stump as well. Lucky for the southpaw. Good ball from Lockie.

7.2 : D Bracewell to S Dhawan, Defended off the back foot by Shikhar on this occasion.
7.3 : D Bracewell to S Dhawan, Short once more on middle, Dhawan rocks back and pulls it away for a couple through mid-wicket. Not such good timing on that ball, looks like it came off the inside half.
7.4 : D Bracewell to S Dhawan, FOUR! That is surely out of the middle though. A length ball not too wide outside off but Dhawan just quite brilliantly times this one in front of point. No stopping those.
7.5 : D Bracewell to S Dhawan, Inside edge that runs down to fine leg. SD gets to the other end.

The 100-run stand comes up as well.

Not the greatest of deliveries, short and wide outside off and Dhawan rightfully slashes hard. But somehow, don't know how, he gets an outside edge. Was he beaten by pace? Did he have to reach out for the ball? Ahh... we get the reason. No footwork. He just slashed at it flat-footed. The ball went behind but Tom Latham dived to his left and t

27.5 : L Ferguson to V Kohli, FOUR! Aha... there is this advert featuring Kohli in India wherein he tells the bowler, 'Last ball I could not see, next ball you will not see.' The fielder fires in a throw from the deep and the keeper breaks the stumps. MS has made it safely, feels the umpire. Two more to the total.
30 runs short? Or have India done well on a slower track? 86/1 in the last 10 overs. That is actually not bad for the Kiwis, considering that they picked up just a wicket. They had done well in Powerplay 3, save aside for the last 2 overs, which went for 35. How costly will that prove though?
Shikhar Dhawan though, who had a post-inning interview, reckoned that India have got enough. Opines that the pitch might get a bit slow as the game progresses but should be a good deck. However, look at India's start and their position at different stages - 154 for the opening wicket in just over 25 overs, 173 around the 30th mark, and then 238 around the 40th - clearly indicating a 350-plus score. Rohit and Dhawan set up a wonderful platform but somewhere in the middle, India lost their way. Po
A bit of an on-off day for the Kiwis. They found no swing and struggled for a major part but eventually realized that cutters are the way to go on this pitch. That foxed many Indian batters as everyone struggled to time the ball. Pick of the bowlers was Ish Sodhi, who did not allow the Indians to go after him in the middle overs.
325 to win then. 1-1 or 2-0? 1-0 is also a possibility. Join us back at 7.15 pm local (0615 GMT).
