Match over
0.5 : 0.5: C Woakes to M Guptill, FOUR! Guptill is off the mark in style! This was uppish but away from the fielder. A little luck there for Guptill which he probably hasn't had in the World Cup so far. No better day for it to go your way than today. This is a back of a length ball outside off, Guptill stands tall and guides it in the air but wide of point. Despite the rain in the morning, it races away.
3.2 : 3.2: J Archer to M Guptill, SIX! Brilliant shot from Guptill but he would have surely had his heart in his mouth for a bit. Guptill comes down the track and also makes room and Archer bowls it short outside off. Martin arches and looks to upper cut. It seems a little edgy but just about clears the third man fence. First of the final.
3.4 : 3.4: J Archer to M Guptill, FOUR! Hammered! That is hit with some power! Good Archer did not get a hand to that one. Guptill once again uses his feet and makes this into a half volley. He smashes it over the bowler who does stretch his hand upwards but the ball goes past him by then. Guptill has come out with a lot of intent here. Just the way he likes to play.
6.2 : 6.2: C Woakes to M Guptill, OUT! Three reds and Guptill's positive stay does not last long. He takes a review along with him. That looked out to be honest, that review should not have been taken. Woakes gets his length spot on this time. This is slightly fuller around off, it comes back in. Guptill does not adjust to the movement and hence, ends up driving outside the line. It hits the back pad. An appeal and the umpire raises the finger. Guptill, after a chat with his partner, reviews. Replays
10.3 : 10.3: C Woakes to H Nicholls, FOUR! Slapped! A rare loose ball by Woakes and you have to put those away. This is shorter in length and outside off, Nicholls slaps it hard, through cover-point and the ball races away. A welcome boundary.
13.6 : 13.6: L Plunkett to H Nicholls, FOUR! A much-needed boundary! Spoils the over! This is a half volley on leg stump. Nicholls says thank you very much as he flicks it behind square on the leg side and it races away.
14.6: M Wood to K Williamson, FOUR! First boundary for Williamson! Once again the last ball spoils the over. This is short and on the body, Williamson comes inside the line and looks to pull but it goes off the gloves fine on the leg side and it races away to the fence.
15.1 : 15.1: L Plunkett to H Nicholls, FOUR! Runs coming thick and fast now! Consecutive boundaries for New Zealand. Shorter and on the body, Nicholls swivels and pulls it behind square on the leg side. Stokes runs to his left in the deep and dives but his effort goes in vain.
18.2 : 18.2: M Wood to H Nicholls, FOUR! That is beautifully timed by Nicholls! Just got bat to ball and used the pace. Shorter and around off, Nicholls plays it late, guides it through point and bags a boundary. The 50-run stand is also up between the two. A very good one, they started off slowly but now are getting into their own. Need to continue.
19.1 : 19.1: A Rashid to K Williamson, FOUR! Lovely, lovely shot! This was timed nicely. Rashid gives it a lot of air and lands it around middle, Williamson uses his reach and then lofts it over wide mid on and bags a boundary. Picked his spot well. Mid on was in the ring and he went over him.
22.4 : 22.4: L Plunkett to K Williamson, OUT! There is a spike on Ultra Edge and Williamson has to take the long walk back! Big, big wicket and Plunkett is the partnership breaker. The bowling change has worked wonders for England. This is a top delivery. It is a scrambled seam delivery. It lands around off and then straightens. Williamson plays inside the line. The ball kisses the outside edge and goes straight into the hands of the keeper. The England players are appealing but the umpire shakes his h
26.5 : 26.5: L Plunkett to H Nicholls, OUT! Drags it on! Plunkett now has both the set batters. Nicholls does not last for long after getting to his half ton. A loose, loose shot. This is another scrambled seam delivery outside off, Nicholls goes after it away from his body with no foot movement. He gets an inside edge which hits the stumps behind. Plunkett is bowling a brilliant second spell. New Zealand suddenly in a spot of bother.
33.1 : 33.1: M Wood to R Taylor, OUT! LBW! Wood strikes straightaway after being brought into the attack! Once again the bowling change does the trick for England. Another big wicket for England. He was supposedly going to be the anchor once Williamson fell but he too has to take the long walk back. Wood lands this around off and then this jags back in. Taylor looks to flick but misses to get hit around the knee roll. A huge appeal follows and the umpire raises the finger. No reviews left so Taylor has
34.4 : 34.4: Ben Stokes to J Neesham, FOUR! That has gone to the fence so very quickly! This is on the pads, Neesham loves it there. He whips it past the deep mid-wicket fielder and into the fence. He is off the mark in style. First boundary in 92 balls.
34.5 : 34.5: Ben Stokes to J Neesham, FOUR! Second boundary in the over! Another good shot. Stokes goes short this time. Neesham is up for it. He pulls it through wide mid on and it goes away to the fence.
36.4 : 36.4: L Plunkett to Tom Latham, FOUR! No, it has bounced just before! A boundary signaled but a welcome one. This is slightly short and on the body, Latham pulls it uppishly but in the gap in the backward square leg region for a boundary.
37.1 : 37.1: M Wood to Tom Latham, FOUR! Class, that shot was pure class! This is a length ball around off, Latham just plants his front foot forward and just pushes it past covers. It races away. Ideal start to the over. They need to make use of it.
38.5 : 38.5: L Plunkett to J Neesham, FOUR! This is turning out to be a good over for New Zealand! A strong shot this by Neesham, This is shorter and outside off, Neesham slaps it through covers and the ball races away to the fence.
38.6 : 38.6: L Plunkett to J Neesham, OUT! CAUGHT! Neesham has thrown it away! This is a soft, soft dismissal. Neesham will be very disappointed with himself. Once again it is Plunkett who is the partnership breaker. His third of the day. It is another scrambled seam delivery and it is on middle. Neesham looks to go over mid on. The idea was right but the execution and the timing was not there. It goes straight to Root there who makes no mistake. England once again strike at the right time. Half the s
44.3 : 44.3: M Wood to Tom Latham, SIX! All the way! That is a big hit as it is the longer part of the ground. Releases all the pressure that was building. A welcome biggie. Wood misses his mark and ends up bowling a full one on middle, Latham nonchalantly whips it over the mid-wicket fence.
46.5 : 46.5: C Woakes to de Grandhomme, OUT! In the air... taken! Colin de Grandhomme's struggle comes to an end. He just never timed the ball that well and now departs. The slower one gets the better of him. It is on middle. Colin looks to whip it on the leg side but closes the face of the bat very early. A leading edge is induced which lobs to mid off where Vince, the sub, takes an easy catch.
48.3 : 48.3: C Woakes to Tom Latham, OUT! Another soft dismissal! No fifty for Latham. A slower full toss outside off, Latham looks to loft it over mid off but is early in the shot. It goes off the toe end straight to mid off where Vince, the sub, takes another catch. Can England now bowl New Zealand out? They are into the bowling all-rounders.
48.6 : 48.6: C Woakes to M Henry, FOUR! Henry comes out and hits it first ball for a much-needed boundary. He had no problems against the slower one. He waits for it and then whacks it over the mid-wicket fielder and into the fence. A huge over this, 13 from it. 12 needed now for 250.
49.3 : 49.3: J Archer to M Henry, OUT! Knocked him over! Henry has been bowled off a full toss. Henry may not be ready for it. It is on off at 147 KPH. Henry swings but misses to see the furniture behind get disturbed. So just a boundary for Henry. Archer gets his 1st, his 20th in the World Cup.
1.6 : 1.6: M Henry to J Roy, FOUR! Straight down the ground! First boundary of the run chase and it comes off the bat of Roy. Henry goes very full this time, Roy strokes it through mid on and the ball races away. A boundary to end but a very testing over by Henry.
2.5 : 2.5: T Boult to J Roy, FOUR! A very good response by Roy. He comes down the track and stays leg side of the delivery. Boult bowls it short. Roy guides it past cover-point and it races away.
4.3 : 4.3: T Boult to J Bairstow, FOUR! Bairstow's first boundary! Just a little bit fuller by Boult and it is outside off, Bairstow strokes it past cover and the ball races away to the fence.
4.5 : 4.5: T Boult to J Bairstow, FOUR! Second boundary in the over! Very full and on off, Bairstow leans into it and strokes it through extra cover for a boundary.
5.2 : 5.2: M Henry to J Roy, FOUR! It is raining boundaries here! This was uppish but in the gap. On a good length and around off, Roy strokes it on the up and hits it wide of cover for a boundary.
5.4 : 5.4: M Henry to J Roy, OUT! EDGED AND TAKEN! Matt Henry has broken through. Once again he is the man who has provided the breakthrough for New Zealand with the new ball. A much-needed one and for once, England's opening stand does not account for a lot. This is another superb delivery. It is slightly fuller and then shapes away. Roy pushes at it but does so inside the line. The ball takes the outside edge and goes low to Latham who takes it with a dive forward and across. Roy starts walking but
6.3 : 6.3: T Boult to J Bairstow, FOUR! Lovely shot by Bairstow. He has creamed this. Fuller and on middle, Jonny strokes it past the diving mid on fielder and the ball races away.
8.5 : 8.5: T Boult to J Bairstow, FOUR! Too short and put away! It bounces at a good height for the batsman. Bairstow pulls it through square leg and the ball races away to the fence.
13.4 : 13.4: M Henry to J Bairstow, FOUR! Releases the pressure that was building. A little too straight and on the pads, Bairstow flicks it through mid-wicket and bags a boundary.
13.5 : 13.5: M Henry to J Bairstow, FOUR! Streaky but England won't care! Back-to-back boundaries to bring up the 50. This is wide outside off, Jonny throws his hands at it. It goes off the inside edge past the off pole and down to the fine leg fence.
16.3 : 16.3: de Grandhomme to Joe Root, OUT! Caught behind! Colin de Grandhomme gets Root! Another loose stroke from Joe Root. The last two balls he faced, the shots he played, it was very uncharacteristic from him. De Grandhomme bowls this full and wide outside off. It is the sucker ball. Root is sucked into the stroke. He goes after it away from the body. The ball takes the outside edge and goes into the mitts of Latham. Body blow for England as Root is supposed to be the batter who everyone plays ar
19.2 : 19.2: L Ferguson to J Bairstow, FOUR! That is pure timing! Not a bad ball this. It is on a length and around off, Bairstow stands tall and pushes it on the up through covers. No chance for any fielder.
19.3 : 19.3: L Ferguson to J Bairstow, OUT! Drags it on! Jonny Bairstow is out of here. Ferguson has the last laugh. Another English batter who falls to a loose stroke. This is short and outside off, Bairstow goes after it away from his body, he ends up playing outside the line. The ball takes the inside edge and deflects onto the stumps. The dropped catch does not cost a lot. Jonny fails after getting off to a start. England in a spot of bother here.
22.3: de Grandhomme to Ben Stokes, FOUR! Too short and it is easy for Stokes. He comes down the track and Colin bangs it very short. Stokes pulls it through mid-wicket and the ball races away to the fence.
23.1 : 23.1: J Neesham to E Morgan, OUT! THAT IS CLEAN AS A WHISTLE! Morgan has to walk back! Jimmy Neesham has started his spell off in dream fashion. However, a lot of credit here has to be given to Ferguson. He just finished his spell and now has put in a brilliant effort in the field. Morgan dances down the track and Neesham bowls it short and wide outside off. Eoin slaps it but does not keep it down. It seems as if, it would fall safe but Ferguson in the deep, runs in, dives forward and seems to h
27.3 : 27.3: J Neesham to Ben Stokes, FOUR! Hammered! 100 up in style for England. Stokes comes down the track and makes it into a half volley. He powers it past the bowler and the ball races away to the fence.
31.3: T Boult to Jos Buttler, FOUR! In the air... but just wide! Shorter in length and outside off, Buttler hops, does not get on top of the bounce but manages to guide it wide of point and it races away to the fence. Welcome boundary.
36.1 : 36.1: L Ferguson to Jos Buttler, FOUR! Length ball wide outside off and it gets the punishment. Buttler swings his bat at it and the ball races to the point region for four runs.
37.5 : 37.5: J Neesham to Jos Buttler, FOUR! This is hit powerfully! Too full and Neesham pays the price. Fuller and on middle, Buttler powers it past the bowler to the long on fence.
38.2 : 38.2: L Ferguson to Ben Stokes, FOUR! Short boundary and it races away! Shorter in length and on middle, Stokes gets on top of the bounce and pulls it through mid-wicket. The ball races away.
39.6 : 39.6: M Henry to Jos Buttler, FOUR! Trademark Buttler! He brings out the paddle scoop. Despite the fine leg behind behind, he gets a boundary as he scoops it nice and fine. Spoils the over, 8 from it. 72 needed in 60. End of a very good spell by Matt Henry overall, 10-2-40-1.
43.2 : 43.2: T Boult to Jos Buttler, FOUR! Up and over! Fifty up for Buttler. He hasn't had a great tournament but comes to the fore in the Finals. Rightly called the man for the crisis for England. His job is yet not done though. This is very full and outside off, Buttler lofts it over covers and bags a boundary. Also, the 100-run stand is up. Outstanding. Probably the stand which wins England their first World Cup.
44.2: L Ferguson to Jos Buttler, FOUR! Just over and a boundary that too early in the over. A low full toss outside off, Buttler reaches out for it, gets it just over the leaping cover fielder and into the boundary. Pressure on the bowler now.
44.5 : 44.5: L Ferguson to Jos Buttler, OUT! In the air... taken! Buttler is out of here! Another excellent catch by a New Zealand fielder. It is Southee, the sub who has taken it. Fielding wins you games and this catch probably can win New Zealand the World Cup. It is a slower one outside off, Buttler once again tries to reach out for it. He ends up slicing it towards sweeper cover. Tim runs in and takes it with a slide. End of a brilliant partnership and a lovely innings from Buttler but they needed
45.6 : 45.6: J Neesham to Ben Stokes, FOUR! Releases a lot of pressure! 39 needed in 24. This is very full and on middle, Stokes whips it through mid-wicket. It is away from the fielder in the deep and a boundary results.
46.1 : 46.1: L Ferguson to C Woakes, OUT! Ferguson gets another one! Woakes fails to make an impact! Ideal start to the over. Credit to Tom Latham too. he made a difficult catch look easy. This is short and on middle, Woakes looks to heave it across the line but only gets a top edge. It goes behind to Latham who settles under it and takes it by tumbling forward. Third for Ferguson. Into the bowling all-rounders are New Zealand. Stokes will probably have to do it alone now.
46.5 : 46.5: L Ferguson to L Plunkett, FOUR! This is handy, very handy from Plunkett! Anything from his bat, is just gold for England and a boundary is brilliant. It is full and on the pads, Liam whips it through mid-wicket and the ball races away to the fence.
47.1 : 47.1: T Boult to Ben Stokes, FOUR! What a shot! He has pierced the gap brilliantly! Perfect start to the over. Boult misses his length by just, it ends up being in the slot. Stokes whips it through mid-wicket and bags a boundary.
48.3 : 48.3: J Neesham to L Plunkett, OUT! Plunkett holes out! It is not just a wicket but a dot. Another delivery used up. It is now 22 from 9. A slower one on off, Plunkett looks to go downtown but fails to get the timing right. Boult at long off makes no mistake. However, the important thing is the batters have crossed. Stokes will be on strike.
48.4 : 48.4: J Neesham to Ben Stokes, Boult has touched the ropes! SIX! This could probably be the game changing moment. Boult was very casual there, very casual. A slower one outside off, Stokes drags it towards wide long on. Boult there takes it inside the ropes, the momentum though takes him aback. He ends up touching the ropes and then throws it back towards Guptill. Too late by then as Martin signals it is a six.
48.6 : 48.6: J Neesham to J Archer, OUT! KABOOM! A first-baller for Archer. He keeps it simple, it is on the stumps. Archer swings across the line. He misses, the ball hits the pads and the ball deflects onto the stumps. 15 needed in the last 6 balls. It is going to be Boult against Stokes who will try and face all six balls. Who will keep his nerve?
49.3 : 49.3: T Boult to Ben Stokes, SIX! He does hit it! This is an outrageous shot. A slog sweep to the pacer and it goes all the way. Boult misses the length and bowls it full outside off. Stokes drags it over the mid-wicket fence.
49.5 : 49.5: T Boult to Ben Stokes, OUT! RUN OUT! Just the single! 2 needed on the last ball. Full and outside off, Stokes hammers it down to long off and the batters take one. They go for the second. Santner throws it to the bowler who collects it and whips the bails off.
49.6 : 49.6: T Boult to Ben Stokes, OUT! He has not! WE HEAD INTO THE SUPER OVER! What an end to the game. A full toss on middle, this is hit down to long on. The batters take one, they go for the second. It is thrown to the bowler who collects it and whips the bails off. The umpire goes upstairs to check and replays show that Wood is way short.
