0.0 : Another cricketing weekend is here! After the royal drubbing in Rajkot, can the Windies change or tweak the script a bit in Hyderabad? The good news for them is that both Holder and Roach are in good shape to play and that should raise the hopes of a better display. India, on the other hand, will aim for another clinical performance. They have retained the same XII as the previous one, making a strong statement that they are going to field their best XI, not just give chances to players. Will it
WEATHER - The conditions are bright and sunny. Usually, in this part of the year, it does not rain, but considering that this is the southern territory of India which actually gets a taste of both - Southwest and Northeast monsoons - you never know, we might get an odd shower here and there, though the forecast does not suggest anything of that sort.
TOSS - It is time for the spin of the coin. The good news for the Windies is that JASON HOLDER is back. Virat Kohli flips it, Holder calls HEADS and it is a HEAD. WINDIES ELECT TO BAT FIRST.
Holder reckons that the decision to bat first is because it looks a pretty good wicket to bat on. Adds that the batsmen need to see off the juice in the first hour and then bat well in good conditions. Admits that it was tough sitting out watching the last game and hopes to do well here. Stresses that the team is pumped up to do well too. Informs that Sherman Lewis and Keemo Paul miss out and are replaced by himself and Jomel Warrican. (Interesting - after all the hype, Roach does not find a pla
Kohli says that he would have batted first as well, since it looks like a good pitch. Then says he is not too bothered about the toss as the pitch in Hyderabad stays the same throughout. On India's focus, Virat says that the main aim is to do the regular things correctly and to precision. Informs that Shami has been rested as he has been playing 6 Tests in a row and has bowled quite a lot of overs. Adds that the seamer is replaced by Shardul Thakur.
The players are stepping out for their national anthems. The Windies one first, followed by the Indian anthem.
We are done with the anthems. Let us play. Kraigg Brathwaite and Kieran Powell to open up for the Windies. Umesh Yadav to start off with the new ball to the former. Here we go!!!
0.1 : U Yadav to Brathwaite, FOUR! A loosener to start. On the pads, Brathwaite just tickles it fine past the keeper and gets Windies going with a boundary to fine leg.
0.2 : U Yadav to Brathwaite, Better from Umesh, lands it on a length, just around off, the right-hander defends.
0.3 : U Yadav to Brathwaite, Outside off, a touch short, Kraigg taps it to the off side.
0.4 : U Yadav to Brathwaite, FOUR! A half volley on the pads, Brathwaite flicks it uppishly, just wide of mid-wicket and earns the second boundary of the innings.
0.5 : U Yadav to Brathwaite, On a length outside off, good bounce, Kraigg shoulders arms.
0.6 : U Yadav to Brathwaite, This is wider than the previous one, easily left alone. Expensive start from Umesh - primarily because he was inconsistent.
Debutant Shardul Thakur to share the new ball with Umesh.
1.1 : S Thakur to Powell, Full and miles outside off, almost outside the pitch, left alone. Bruce Oxenford is a kind-hearted man. Does not want to mark the first ball in Test cricket from the debutant as an illegal delivery. That might have been wided in a normal scenario...
1.2 : S Thakur to Powell, Closer than the previous one, outside off, left alone.
1.3 : S Thakur to Powell, Similar ball, let through again.
1.4 : S Thakur to Powell, Full and around middle, tailing in, pushed towards Ravichandran Ashwin at mid on.
1.5 : S Thakur to Powell, On the leg side, flicked towards square leg for a single.
1.6 : S Thakur to Brathwaite, Full and around off, watchfully defended. Not a bad start from the debutant, apart from that widish opening delivery.
2.1 : U Yadav to Powell, Full and around off, Powell pushes it down the ground, past wide mid off and gets a couple. Mid on gets around to stop.
2.2 : U Yadav to Powell, Outside off, left alone.
2.3 : U Yadav to Powell, Full and outside off, pushed through the covers for a single.
2.4 : U Yadav to Brathwaite, Defended off the back foot by the batsman.
2.5 : U Yadav to Brathwaite, Pushes this towards mid on.
2.6 : U Yadav to Brathwaite, Around off, on a length, tucked towards mid-wicket.
3.1 : S Thakur to Powell, Full on middle, flicked towards mid-wicket.
3.2 : S Thakur to Powell, FOUR! A bit streaky. On a length outside off, Powell looks to defend with an open bat-face and the ball runs off the outside edge, behind point and races to the third man fence. Prithvi Shaw gives it a good chase from backward point and then tries to dive at the last moment, near the ropes but collides into the advertisement boards instead. He gets up gingerly, holding his right shoulder but seems fine.
3.3 : S Thakur to Powell, The batsman has played that off the front foot and into the ground.
3.4 : S Thakur to Powell, FOUR! JUST OVER! A taller man would have taken that. Full and wide outside off, Powell reaches out to drive and ends up slicing it. The ball is in the air, towards backward point where Prithvi Shaw leaps but his height just does not allow him to get anywhere near the ball.
Oops... problems for Thakur. After bowling that previous ball, he started to limp and straightaway, the physio has been called. AND HE IS GOING OFF. Ravichandran Ashwin to finish Thakur's over.
3.5 : R Ashwin to Powell, Full and just around off, watchfully defended.
3.6 : R Ashwin to Powell, FOUR! THRASH! No half measures. Tossed up slightly, around off Powell, confident after his previous knock in Rajkot, steps out of the crease. Gets to the pitch of the ball and dismisses it from his presence, by bashing it over the non-striker. Mid on has no chance.
4.1 : U Yadav to Brathwaite, Outside off, on a length, left alone. That generates extra bounce after bouncing.
4.2 : U Yadav to Brathwaite, The batsman shoulders arms to let that one through.
4.3 : U Yadav to Brathwaite, Full on middle, flicked through mid-wicket for a couple.
4.4 : U Yadav to Brathwaite, On middle, pushed towards mid on.
4.5 : U Yadav to Brathwaite, A bouncer, Brathwaite ducks.
4.6 : U Yadav to Brathwaite, The batsman has flicked the ball off his pads.
5.1 : R Ashwin to Powell, Full and outside off, left alone.
5.2 : R Ashwin to Powell, Outside off, punched off the back foot.
5.3 : R Ashwin to Powell, Full and outside off, watchfully defended.
5.4 : R Ashwin to Powell, The batsman shows the full face of the bat and defends the ball off the back foot.
Powell has been adjudged LBW! He has taken the review though.
5.5 : R Ashwin to Powell, DECISION OVERTURNED! Big inside edge. No wonder Powell went up straightaway. The ball was pitched outside off, came back in a touch, Powell looked to defend but got hit on the pads. Umpire Oxenford felt that was close and raised his finger. Powell wanted to have a second look and the first replay detects the inside edge. So big that no Snickometer is needed for the third umpire.
5.6 : R Ashwin to Powell, Full and just around off, Kieran comes down the track and blocks.
6.1 : U Yadav to Brathwaite, Good length around off, watchfully defended.
6.2 : U Yadav to Brathwaite, The batsman shows the full face of the bat and defends the ball off the back foot.
6.3 : U Yadav to Brathwaite, Outside off, defended from the crease.
6.4 : U Yadav to Brathwaite, The ball is too wide on the off side for the batsman to make any contact.
6.5 : U Yadav to Brathwaite, Outside off, let through.
6.6 : U Yadav to Brathwaite, The batsman shows the full face of the bat and defends the ball off the back foot. Consecutive maidens for India.
7.1 : R Ashwin to Powell, Full and around middle, Powell comes down the track and works it through mid-wicket for a single.
7.2 : R Ashwin to Brathwaite, The batsman defends it from within the crease.
7.3 : R Ashwin to Brathwaite, Outside off, left alone.
7.4 : R Ashwin to Brathwaite, Full and outside off, well blocked out.
7.5 : R Ashwin to Brathwaite, The batsman has punched that ball through the off side.
7.6 : R Ashwin to Brathwaite, Full and around off, well blocked out.
8.1 : U Yadav to K Powell, Full and outside off, driven towards mid off.
8.2 : U Yadav to Powell, The batsman has played that off the front foot and into the ground.
8.3 : U Yadav to Powell, EDGED, FOUR! A bit streaky from Powell again. Full and wide outside off, the southpaw looks to drive but gets a thick outside edge. It flies between gully and point and races to the third man fence.
8.4 : U Yadav to Powell, Around off, coming in with the angle, watchfully defended.
8.5 : U Yadav to Powell, Terrific bowling! Wow. You don't see too many bowlers going for the yorker with the new ball but Umesh has done just that. He has come charging from around the wicket and fired in a yorker. Clearly catches the batsman by surprise who just about manages to dig it out.
8.6 : U Yadav to Powell, Now a bouncer, around middle, Powell just about ducks in time.
9.1 : R Ashwin to Brathwaite, Huge appeal for a catch! Umpire Oxenford is unmoved. Tossed up around middle and leg, Brathwaite looked to flick but missed. There was a noise as the ball went past the pad and Rishabh Pant collected and whipped the bails off. Then he appealed for the catch. Snickometer shows daylight between bat and ball.
9.2 : R Ashwin to Brathwaite, Outside off, left alone.
9.3 : R Ashwin to Brathwaite, Defended off the front foot by the batsman presenting the full face of the bat.
9.4 : R Ashwin to Brathwaite, Full and outside off, watchfully blocked out.
9.5 : R Ashwin to Brathwaite, Defended off the back foot by the batsman.
9.6 : R Ashwin to Brathwaite, Goes back in his crease and blocks it out.
10.1 : U Yadav to K Powell, Full and outside off, driven towards mid off.
10.2 : U Yadav to Powell, Down the leg side, helped towards backward square leg for a single.
10.3 : U Yadav to Brathwaite, Full and outside off, steep bounce again, left alone.
10.4 : U Yadav to Brathwaite, Full and around off, well blocked out.
10.5 : U Yadav to Brathwaite, A bouncer on middle, Brathwaite ducks.
10.6 : U Yadav to Brathwaite, Much fuller, pushed towards mid on.
11.1 : R Ashwin to Powell, OUT! Caught. Ashwin strikes first. In just his 4th over. Tossed up outside off, Powell comes down the track and looks to go over cover. However, Ashwin has smartly bowled it wider, hence the southpaw has to reach out. Cannot quite time it well and all Ravindra Jadeja has to do at cover is to make a slight leap. Simple catch. The approach to attack the spinner is okay but the pre-meditation cost Powell his wicket. Also, was there any need to go aerial so early?
0.0 : Shai Hope walks in at number 3, replacing Powell.
11.2 : R Ashwin to Hope, Around off, watchfully defended.
11.3 : R Ashwin to Hope, Full and outside off, well blocked out.
11.4 : R Ashwin to Hope, The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.
11.5 : R Ashwin to Hope, Very full, outside off, well defended.
11.6 : R Ashwin to Hope, Defended off the front foot by the batsman presenting the full face of the bat.
Spin from both ends. Kuldeep Yadav into the attack. One Yadav replaces another.
12.1 : K Yadav to Brathwaite, Full on middle, flicked straight to short mid-wicket.
12.2 : K Yadav to Brathwaite, Around off, pushed towards cover for a single.
12.3 : K Yadav to Hope, Full and around off, watchfully defended.
12.4 : K Yadav to Hope, Very full, pushed back to the bowler.
12.5 : K Yadav to S Hope, FOUR! ELEGANT! Excellent timing from Hope. Overpitched outside off, Hope leans and drives it wide of mid off and gets a boundary. Strangely, Kohli pushes the man back immediately. Hope is off the mark in grand style.
12.6 : K Yadav to Hope, Full and around off, watchfully defended.
13.1 : R Ashwin to Brathwaite, Full and around off, turned towards short mid-wicket.
13.2 : R Ashwin to Brathwaite, The batsman shows the full face of the bat and defends the ball off the back foot.
13.3 : R Ashwin to Brathwaite, Very full, pushed back to the bowler.
13.4 : R Ashwin to Brathwaite, The batsman shows the full face of the bat and defends the ball off the back foot.
13.5 : R Ashwin to Brathwaite, Full again, comes forward and blocks.
13.6 : R Ashwin to Brathwaite, Landed outside off, left alone.
14.1 : K Yadav to Hope, Full and outside off, Hope plays back to it and gets an outside edge. But since it was played with soft hands, the edge lands short of Ajinkya Rahane at first slip.
14.2 : K Yadav to Hope, On middle and leg, flicked through square leg for a single.
14.3 : K Yadav to Brathwaite, Full and on middle, Brathwaite flicks it but the ball spins in, goes off the inner half and is in the air. Does not carry to backward square leg.
14.4 : K Yadav to Brathwaite, Played through mid-wicket by the batsman. One run added to the total.
14.5 : K Yadav to Hope, Full and outside off, driven towards mid off where Ravichandran Ashwin dives to his right and parries it towards long on. A run taken.
14.6 : K Yadav to Brathwaite, The batsman works it down the leg side.
Well, seems like something has happened on the ground. Judging the crowd's reaction, it seems like a streaker has made his/her presence. Ian Gould has his hands on Virat Kohli's shoulders who does not seem amused at all. It is taking a while for the situation to calm down, hence DRINKS have been called for. A good hour for both sides. India have largely maintained control over proceedings but at least, the Windies have not imploded. They have lost Kieran Powell trying to attack too much but then
15.1 : R Ashwin to Hope, Full and around off, Hope lunges and defends.
15.2 : R Ashwin to Hope, The batsman has played that off the front foot and into the ground.
15.3 : R Ashwin to Hope, Full and around off, watchfully flicked towards short mid-wicket.
15.4 : R Ashwin to Hope, Down the leg side, Hope looks to flick but misses. The ball goes off his pads past the keeper and then races across the turf. Hanuma Vihari, who is on for Thakur, hares after it from square leg, gets to the ball and then pulls it back in with a slide near the ropes. Two runs taken. The stand is worth 10 now.
15.5 : R Ashwin to Hope, The batsman has driven it through mid on.
15.6 : R Ashwin to Hope, Full and around middle, watchfully pushed away.
16.1 : K Yadav to Brathwaite, Full and around middle, flicked towards mid-wicket for a single.
16.2 : K Yadav to Hope, A full toss, pushed wide of mid on for a quick run.
16.3 : K Yadav to Brathwaite, Floated outside off, driven a bit uppishly towards mid off.
16.4 : K Yadav to Brathwaite, A touch short, around off, played in front of the wicket.
16.5 : K Yadav to Brathwaite, Smart bowling. Sees Brathwaite charge out and fires it in, outside off. Kraigg yorks himself and digs it out.
16.6 : K Yadav to Brathwaite, The batsman shoulders arms to let that one through.
17.1 : R Ashwin to Hope, A touch short, around middle, helped towards square leg.
17.2 : R Ashwin to Hope, Full and around off, watchfully defended.
17.3 : R Ashwin to Hope, The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.
17.4 : R Ashwin to Hope, Full and around off, pushed through mid on where Lokesh Rahul dives and keeps the batsmen to a single.
17.5 : R Ashwin to Brathwaite, The batsman has flicked the ball off his pads.
17.6 : R Ashwin to Brathwaite, Full and around off, well blocked out.
18.1 : K Yadav to Hope, Full and around off, watchfully defended.
18.2 : K Yadav to Hope, The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.
18.3 : K Yadav to S Hope, Floated outside off, Hope gets to the pitch of the ball and drives it but straight to mid off who has been placed wider after his first boundary.
18.4 : K Yadav to Hope, Full again, well defended.
18.5 : K Yadav to Hope, Another tossed up delivery, outside off, driven straight to cover.
18.6 : K Yadav to Hope, The batsman has played that off the front foot and into the ground.
19.1 : R Ashwin to Brathwaite, Full and outside off, whipped back to the bowler. I suspect he was targetting mid-wicket.
19.2 : R Ashwin to Brathwaite, Very full, this time Brathwaite goes back and helps it to the leg side.
19.3 : R Ashwin to Brathwaite, Outside off, pushed towards backward point.
19.4 : R Ashwin to Brathwaite, On middle and off, helped in front of short leg.
19.5 : R Ashwin to Brathwaite, Outside off, a touch short, played in front of point.
19.6 : R Ashwin to Brathwaite, Comes around the wicket for the final ball and bowls it around middle, pushed back to the bowler. Consecutive maidens for India.
20.1 : K Yadav to Hope, Tossed up around off, Hope comes forward and defends.
20.2 : K Yadav to Hope, Comes down the track and works it wide of mid on for a single.
20.3 : K Yadav to Brathwaite, Floated outside off, Brathwaite is down the track as well but is not quite to the pitch of the ball. He looks to defend but the ball goes off the inner half of the bat, just wide of short leg.
20.4 : K Yadav to Brathwaite, Goes back in his crease and blocks.
20.5 : K Yadav to Brathwaite, Very full and outside off, Kraigg comes down the track and hits it hard. 'PAKAD NA!!!' yells Pant. Kuldeep responds with a leap to his left to stop the ball.
20.6 : K Yadav to Brathwaite, Full and around middle, the googly, KB goes back and reads it well, playing it in front of short leg.
21.1 : R Ashwin to Hope, Full and around off, watchfully defended.
21.2 : R Ashwin to Hope, Defended off the back foot by the batsman.
21.3 : R Ashwin to Hope, Full and outside off, driven towards mid off.
21.4 : R Ashwin to Hope, That bounced from nowhere! Around off, Hope gets across to defend but then he ball bounces sharply. He looks to tuck it away but misses. It his right arm and then drops down, just in front of the stumps.
21.5 : R Ashwin to Hope, The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.
21.6 : R Ashwin to Hope, Full on middle, pushed towards mid on.
22.1 : K Yadav to Brathwaite, Full on middle, hit hard back to the bowler who is lazy in getting down and allows the single as the ball goes towards long on.
22.2 : K Yadav to S Hope, FOUR! THUMP! Spare a thought for Prithi Shaw at short leg. It is a long hop and Hope pulls it with aplomb, just over Shaw and gets a boundary to deep mid-wicket.
22.3 : K Yadav to S Hope, Full on middle, flicked wide of Virat Kohli at short mid-wicket, wide of mid on for a run.
22.4 : K Yadav to Brathwaite, EDGED, BUT SAFE! The wrong 'un, outside off, Brathwaite does not pick it and goes back to play. Is caught in his crease and is squared up. However, he plays with soft hands, hence the outside edge does not carry to Ajinkya Rahane at first slip.
Brathwaite adjudged LBW now! He has taken the review as well. Looks dead. Is the impact outside off? Is there an inside edge?
22.5 : Yadav to Brathwaite, OUT! LBW! As plumb as it gets. Waste of a review. Perhaps Brathwaite expected another googly but this time it was a leg spinner. He went slightly across to defend this flighted ball but could not quite cover the line. The ball missed the bat and then came back in slightly to hit the back pad, right in front of off stump. Kuldeep appeals and umpire Gould sends Brathwaite on his way. He is happy to go but his partner reckons that he should review that - perhaps he felt t
Shimron Hetmyer walks in at number 4, replacing Brathwaite.
22.6 : K Yadav to Hetmyer, The batsman defends it from within the crease.
23.1 : R Ashwin to Hope, Full and around off, watchfully defended.
23.2 : R Ashwin to Hope, The batsman shows the full face of the bat and defends the ball off the back foot.
23.3 : R Ashwin to Hope, Goes right back in his crease and blocks.
23.4 : R Ashwin to Hope, Full and outside off, driven wide of mid off for a single.
23.5 : R Ashwin to Hetmyer, Defended off the back foot by the batsman.
23.6 : R Ashwin to Hetmyer, Stays right back and defends.
24.1 : K Yadav to Hope, Full and around leg, played watchfully in front of Prithvi Shaw at short leg.
24.2 : K Yadav to Hope, This is around middle, Hope lunges to block but the ball hits the splice and lobs down the pitch.
24.3 : K Yadav to Hope, Full on middle, flicked through mid-wicket for a single.
24.4 : K Yadav to Hetmyer, The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.
24.5 : K Yadav to Hetmyer, Excellent keeping! Short and outside off, Hetmyer looks to cut but the ball stays low, beating the batsman. However, Rishabh Pant behind collects it cleanly.
24.6 : K Yadav to Hetmyer, LUCKY ESCAPE! Mindless batting. Floated around middle, Hetmyer attempts a slog sweep without even getting to the pitch of the ball. Gets a leading edge but luckily for him, the ball evades backward point. A couple taken.
Change in pace. Change of bowling. Umesh Yadav us back on. 6-1-18-0 so far.
25.1 : U Yadav to Hope, Full and around off, flicked straight to short mid-wicket.
25.2 : U Yadav to Hope, Punches this wide of Kuldeep Yadav at mid off for a quick single.
25.3 : U Yadav to Hetmyer, That is a beauty. Umesh lands it on a length outside off and Hetmyer is forced to play at that. He is squared up but the ball beats the outside edge.
25.4 : U Yadav to S Hetmyer, Another one keeps low! This is the second time in two overs that we have seen instances of low bounce. This is just Day 1. On a length around off, Shimron looks to defend from the crease but the ball scoots low. Would have been plumb LBW but the bat came down at the last minute. The ball goes off the outside edge to gully. Umesh smiles with his hands on his head.
25.5 : U Yadav to Hetmyer, Outside off, left alone.
25.6 : U Yadav to Hetmyer, FOUR! No ball movement, no feet movement, just pure hand-eye co-ordination. A length ball, wide outside off, Hetmyer just reaches out for that and hits it through the covers. India will not mind that much.
26.1 : K Yadav to Hope, Full and around off, watchfully defended.
26.2 : K Yadav to Hope, The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.
26.3 : K Yadav to Hope, Tossed up slightly, around middle, Hope comes down the track and flicks it towards short mid-wicket. 'BHAIYYA!' shouts Pant as the ball goes to Kohli.
26.4 : K Yadav to Hope, This one comes back in, Hope works it wide of short leg for a single. The stand moves to 10.
26.5 : K Yadav to Hetmyer, Oohhh.. close call. A touch short, around leg, spinning away, Hetmyer looks to work it away but gets a thick inside edge. The ball hits his boot but dies down. Could have easily lobbed to silly point.
26.6 : K Yadav to Hetmyer, The batsman has played that off the front foot and into the ground.
27.1 : U Yadav to Hope, On a good length around off, defended from the crease.
27.2 : U Yadav to Hope, Outside off, left alone.
27.3 : U Yadav to Hope, FOUR! Fine shot. Fractionally short in length, outside off, Hope stands tall and punches it through the covers for a boundary! Moves to 22 with his third boundary.
27.4 : U Yadav to Hope, The batsman defends it from within the crease. They pick up a single.
27.5 : U Yadav to Hetmyer, Full and around off, watchfully defended.
27.6 : U Yadav to Hetmyer, Full and around off, driven towards mid off.
Another spinner. Ravindra Jadeja into the attack.
28.1 : R Jadeja to Hope, Full and outside off, driven straight to cover.
28.2 : R Jadeja to Hope, Around middle, pushed towards mid on.
28.3 : R Jadeja to S Hope, FOUR OVERTHROWS! FIVE RUNS IN ALL. Wild throw from Ashwin. Full on middle, Hope pushes it towards mid on and takes Ashwin on. The fielder comes in slowly, gets to the ball and then has a shy at the bowler's end. Jadeja moves away but the throw is well wide of the sticks and poor Prithvi Shaw at silly point has no chance as the ball races to his right. Hanuma Vihari tries to stop it from backward point but it is wide of him too!
28.4 : R Jadeja to Hetmyer, FOUR! Timing! Slightly short outside off, Hetmyer punches it through the covers and gets a boundary!
28.5 : R Jadeja to Hetmyer, The batsman has driven it straight down the ground.
28.6 : R Jadeja to Hetmyer, Full and around off, well defended. 9 from Jadeja's opening over.
29.1 : U Yadav to Hope, Landed outside off, left alone.
29.2 : U Yadav to Hope, FOUR! Great timing once again. Slightly short outside off, Hope gets on top of the bounce and punches it through point for a boundary. Moves to 32 with his fourth boundary.
29.3 : U Yadav to Hope, The batsman defends it from within the crease.
29.4 : U Yadav to S Hope, Full on middle, Shai turns it towards mid-wicket and sets off for a single. But on seeing Jadeja prowl over there, Hetmyer sends him back. Hope just about gets in as Jadeja misses his shy at the striker's end.
29.5 : U Yadav to Hope, Outside off, left alone.
HOWZZAT? India have made a huge LBW shout against Hope. Umpire Oxenford has not given it and Kohli has reviewed it. Height might be a factor...
29.6 : U Yadav to Hope, SAFE, UMPIRE'S CALL! The margin was not much. Could have gone either way. On a length outside off, Hope looked to play that from the crease but missed and was hit on the pads. Umesh screamed in an LBW appeal but Bruce Oxenford was calm. Kohli then had a chat with Pujara who convinced him to go for the review. Hawk Eye shows the ball to be clipping the top of the stumps, which means umpire's call will stay and so will India's review.
30.1 : R Jadeja to Hetmyer, Around off, defended from the crease.
30.2 : R Jadeja to Hetmyer, The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.
30.3 : R Jadeja to Hetmyer, Full and down the leg side, Hetmyer looks to sweep but misses. The ball goes of Rishabh Pan't pads towards fine leg. Two byes signalled.
30.4 : R Jadeja to Hetmyer, Defended off the back foot by the batsman.
30.5 : R Jadeja to Hetmyer, Full and around off, well defended.
30.6 : R Jadeja to Hetmyer, Around off, defended from the crease.
31.1 : U Yadav to Hope, A length ball, pitches and creates an explosion, perhaps hitting a crack, defended from the crease.
31.2 : U Yadav to S Hope, FOUR! FABULOUS! Overpitched outside off, slightly wide, Hope leans and drives it wide of mid off. Prithvi Shaw dives to his left but in vain.
Another review! This time by Shai Hope. He has been adjudged LBW. Looks plumb.
31.3 : U Yadav to Hope, OUT! Number 3 down! The best batsman of the session has been dismissed on what is now the final ball of the period. A length ball, around off, coming in, Hope gets across to tuck it away but misses and is hit on the pads, beaten by the pace on that ball. Umesh appeals, umpire Oxenford thinks for a while and this time, raises his finger. Hope wants a review but Hawk Eye shows all three reds - which means WINDIES GO INTO LUNCH AT 86/3! Both reviews are lost too...
Good bowling by India after being asked to field but more than that, it has been poor batting from the Windies which has made it India's session. The bowlers were largely inconsistent and just imagine - if in spite of losing three wickets, 86 runs could be added, then how the situation would have been without those dismissals.
India's new-ball pair did not start well, being inconsistent and then Shardul Thakur's recurring injury caused concern. It did not take time for Ashwin to strike but the hosts simply have had to wait for the batsmen to commit mistakes. Powell threw his wicket away, Hetmyer has been keen on over-attacking while Brathwaite was beaten by spin again. Shai Hope was looking in excellent touch, up until that ball from Umesh.
The fielding side did its bit with the ball - trying to keep things tight but that came only from Ashwin. The two Yadavs were far too inconsistent and that allowed the pressure to ease off a little bit.
Hard to say much about this Windies side which is full of inexperience, yet talent. You might expect them to fight hard, but then, might also see them crumble. India will look to be more consistent with their lines and lengths. The pitch is already starting to be up and down, so accuracy will help. Join us back for the second session at 0640 GMT (1210 IST).

33.6 : U Yadav to Ambris, FOUR! Great timing! On the pads, Ambris just uses his wrists and flicks it through mid-wicket for a boundary.
34.1 : K Yadav to Hetmyer, OUT! Dead duck. Hetmyer was never comfortable against spin and it has been his undoing again. Floated outside off, Shimron thinks that it is a leg spinner and decides to shoulder arms. But to his horror, it is the googly. It comes back in and hits him slightly outside off. But impact does not matter when one has not offered a shot. Crashing into the stumps, as per Hawk Eye.
0.0 : Roston Chase walks in at number 6, replacing Hetmyer.
34.2 : K Yadav to Chase, Full and around off, watchfully defended.
34.3 : K Yadav to Chase, Full and outside off, driven back to the bowler.

Direct hit! Is Ambris gone?
35.1 : U Yadav to Chase, SAFE AS A HOUSE. Full and outside off, Chase pushes it towards cover and sets off for a single. Kuldeep Yadav gets to it from mid off and then scores a direct hit at the striker's end. Referred upstairs but replays confirm that Ambris is in.
35.2 : U Yadav to Ambris, The batsman has pushed it to the cover region.
35.3 : U Yadav to Ambris, Full and outside off, driven towards mid off.
35.4 : U Yadav to Ambris, The batsman flicks it away with a wristy shot for a couple of runs.
35.5 : U Yadav to Ambris, Another flick, this time a single.
35.6 : U Yadav to Chase, FOUR! Full on middle, Chase flicks it through mid-wicket and gets a boundary!
36.1 : K Yadav to Ambris, Oops... lucky. Full and around off, Ambris looks to flick but the ball spins away, owing to it being a googly. Luckily for the batsman, it lands wide of cover and a single is taken.

38.1 : K Yadav to Ambris, Loopy and very full on off, Ambris flicks it with the turn to mid-wicket.
38.2 : K Yadav to Ambris, FOUR! Risky but effective! Yadav tosses this up in the air and lands it fuller on off. It spins back in a bit after landing as Ambris dances down the track to heave it across the line. It though comes off from the toe end of his bat and flies past the right side of the mid on fielder.
38.3 : K Yadav to Ambris, A touch flatter this time around off, Ambris stays back in defense.
38.4 : K Yadav to S Ambris, Drops it short and on middle, Ambris plays a mistimed pull shot to square leg.
38.5 : K Yadav to Ambris, OUT! Ambris throws it away. His ultra aggressive approach has brought his downfall. Kuldeep was bowling quite a few googlies post the Lunch break and this time has struck. Ambris fails to read the variation as once again he tries to attack the spinner. Goes hard at it but the ball spins away to take the leading edge. It loops up to Jadeja at extra cover and he is not dropping these simple catches even in his sleep. Windies continue to slip.
Shane Dowrich is the new batsman.
38.6 : K Yadav to Dowrich, A bit of an outside edge. Turning away from the new batsman. Dowrich sticks back and plays it down with soft hands. Goes off the outside half his blade and rolls wide of Rahane at first slip. End of a successful over by Kuldeep.

41.3 : R Jadeja to Chase, Shortish and on off, punched off the back foot to covers.
41.4 : R Jadeja to Chase, SIX! High and handsome! It has been a conscious effort by the Windies batsmen to attack the spinners. With wickets tumbling, not sure how good a strategy is this. Jadeja bowls it on middle and it skids through the surface. Chase clears his front leg and powers it over mid-wicket for a maximum.
41.5 : R Jadeja to Chase, Full floated on off, Chase is on the front foot as he pushes it off the inner half of the bat to mid on.
41.6 : R Jadeja to Chase, Chase has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.
42.1 : K Yadav to Dowrich, Flighted and very full on middle, Dowrich defends it back.
42.2 : K Yadav to Dowrich, Well played! Yadav gets it to drift into the batsman but the length is on the shorter side. Dowrich with a to and fro movement goes back and punches it through cover-point. Jadeja and Pujara give it the chase, no prizes for guessing who gets there first. Two runs taken.
42.3 : K Yadav to Dowrich, Tossed up ball thrown around off, Dowrich is on the front foot in defense.
42.4 : K Yadav to Dowrich, Flatter and shorter on off, punched off the back foot to covers.

43.3 : R Jadeja to Chase, This time the line is too straight from Jadeja, Chase nudges it behind square leg and returns for the second run.

43.6 : R Jadeja to Dowrich, A gentle delivery this time, flighted and outside off, Shane takes a stride forward to cover his stumps and then allows it through.
44.1 : K Yadav to Chase, FOUR! Poor start to the over by Kuldeep. He darts it down the leg side, spinning further down, Chase uses his wrists to good effect as he tickles it fine down the leg side for a boundary. 50 runs have come in this session already, so Windies are scoring at a good rate in spite of losing half their side. Attack is the best form of defense, living up to that cliche.
44.2 : K Yadav to Chase, Tossed up ball on middle, Roston works it off his pads to mid-wicket.
44.3 : K Yadav to Chase, Well tossed up ball on off, driven off the front foot but down to mid on. Straight to the fielder.
44.4 : K Yadav to Chase, Defended off the front foot by the batsman presenting the full face of the bat.

45.2 : R Jadeja to Chase, A firm push from the crease but it hits the silly point fielder and slows down. The cover fielder mops it up, no chance of a run.
45.3 : R Jadeja to Chase, FOUR! At least one boundary is coming in every over. Kuldeep dishes out a flighted full ball outside off, Chase is a tall man and he uses his reach well. Latches onto it and muscles his drive through covers. The silly point fielder does well there to jump and avoid getting hit.
45.4 : R Jadeja to Chase, Defended off the front foot by the batsman presenting the full face of the bat.
45.5 : R Jadeja to Chase, Loopy and full ball on off, Roston is on the front foot in defense.

46.3 : K Yadav to R Chase, Shortish again, on middle, it's pulled through square leg for a run.
46.4 : K Yadav to Dowrich, Once again Kuldeep is on the shorter side with his length, Dowrich eases it through mid-wicket for another run in this over. Poor bowling by the chinaman.
46.5 : K Yadav to Chase, Kuldeep switches to 'round the wicket and lets out a flighted full ball outside off. Chase drives but finds the mid off fielder.
46.6 : K Yadav to Chase, Gets this one to spin back into the batsman from outside off but the length is quite short. Chase goes back and steers it through point. A single taken to complete the 8-run over. Maybe, it's time for Ashwin from this end.
Bowling change. In fact, Ravichandran Ashwin is given the ball from the opposite end.
47.1 : R Ashwin to Chase, Tossed up ball on middle, defended with the spin to short leg.

47.6 : R Ashwin to Dowrich, Loopy outside off, Dowrich is comfortable while pushing it out on the off side.
Drinks. 64 runs in the first hour after Lunch for the loss of two wickets. A mixed-bag one for both teams. Windies continue to score freely but in the process are losing wickets as well. India won't mind this approach from them much. Exciting passage.

49.4 : R Ashwin to Chase, Allows the ball to spin back in and then helps it to short mid-wicket.

49.6 : R Ashwin to R Chase, Sharp single. Tossed up ball on middle, knocked down to mid on and Chase scampered across to the other end. The fielder missed his shy at the bowler's end.

51.4 : R Ashwin to Dowrich, Tossed up ball outside off, left alone.
51.5 : R Ashwin to Dowrich, Lands it full and outside off, spinning back in, Dowrich once again is confident in his forward defense.
51.6 : R Ashwin to Dowrich, FOUR! Cashes in on a loose delivery. Ashwin bowls it quite wide outside off, allowing Dowrich the room to play a square drive. He has nailed it through the gap at point and fetches a boundary for himself. Good going by Windies!

52.2 : R Jadeja to Dowrich, Flatter and shorter on off, skidding back in, Shane defends it off his back foot.

55.5 : R Ashwin to R Chase, Knocks a full ball down to long on and jogs across to the other end.
55.6 : R Ashwin to Dowrich, FOUR! Poor delivery and punished. Ashwin drags his length short and serves it well wide outside off. Dowrich's eyes lit up seeing the width and he goes back to have a real crack at it. Plays the square cut, doesn't bother to keep it down and it races through cover-point. There was a point fielder but he didn't even react.
56.1 : R Jadeja to Chase, Miscommunication but no harm done! Flatter delivery outside off, on the shorter side and spinning away, Chase taps it down to point and looks for a run. 58.6 : R Jadeja to Dowrich, SIX! Excellent shot! Jadeja delivers it full and in line of the stumps, since it's not spinning much, Dowrich takes a chance. He plonks it front leg out of the way and launches it over long on for a maximum.
Umesh Yadav is back into the attack.
Appeal for a run out at the non-striker's end. The umpire takes his time, adjusts the bails on the stumps and then signals for the third umpire. Dowrich looks in. Let's see...
59.1 : Yadav to Chase, SAFE! Waste of time. Dowrich can't be safer than this. Yadav starts with a good length ball on off, Chase remains on the back foot and defends it back. Yadav stretches his right hand out and the ball brushes his fingers before going onto the stumps at the non-striker's end. They appeal and the umpire goes upstairs after the insistence from the Indian skipper. The replays roll in and they show that Shane has his bat well planted inside the line.
59.2 : U Yadav to Chase, On middle and leg, worked to square leg for a single.
Shout for an lbw! Not given. Is there an inside edge? Or is it missing leg? India are reviewing it...
59.3 : U Yadav to Dowrich, OUT! What a review! India have hit the jackpot to break the 69-run stand. To be honest, it never looked out to the naked eye. We thought it would have been missing leg but the replays prove all of us and the umpire wrong. Yadav gets a full length ball to nip back into the batsman from around off. Dowrich fails to flick it and is rapped on the pads. They appeal but the umpire disagrees. The Indian skipper has a chat with his bowler and the keeper before taking the DRS. T

60.5 : R Jadeja to Chase, Chase has played that off the front foot and into the ground.

61.1 : U Yadav to Holder, Good length ball around off, angling back into the batsman, Holder remains on the back foot as he defends it to the off side.
61.2 : U Yadav to Holder, Nice line, full and around off, a hint of shape in there, Jason defends it by getting a bit forward.
61.3 : U Yadav to Holder, The line is very straight, Holder works it to the right side of the mid on fielder. There would have been a single but seeing Jadeja manning that area, the Windies skipper decides not to take any unnecessary risk.
61.4 : U Yadav to Holder, FOUR! Well timed and placed! A back of a length delivery outside off, Holder sticks inside the crease and punches it square of the wicket on the off side. Ashwin ambles across to his right from third man but only to retrieve the ball from the rope.
61.5 : U Yadav to Holder, Shows the full face of the bat and defends the ball off the back foot.
61.6 : U Yadav to Holder, Well stopped! Yadav spears this in, eyeing a yorker but it's too full on middle. Holder does well to keep it out on the leg side and Shaw at short mid-wicket makes a fine stop. Good cricket all around.
62.1 : R Jadeja to Chase, Slower full ball outside off, Chase is on the front foot as he defends it to the off side.
62.2 : R Jadeja to Chase, Flatter this time, short as well, Chase cuts this through cover-point for a run.

63.2 : U Yadav to Chase, Another delivery curling back into the batsman from a shortish length around off. Chase once again remains back footed in defense.
63.3 : U Yadav to Chase, Good line from Umesh. He is operating on and around off. Getting it to shape back in as well. Chase so far has been very watchful in keeping those out safely.
63.4 : U Yadav to Chase, A touch short in length, around middle and angling down, Chase tucks it down to fine leg and crosses for a single. 7th Test fifty from Roston Chase! Very good application by Roston. Needs to carry on though.
63.5 : U Yadav to Holder, Full and swinging delivery, but it lands on middle and goes down, Chase fails to flick and it goes off his pads to fine leg. A leg bye taken as Yadav lets out a stifled appeal for an lbw.
63.6 : U Yadav to Chase, Appeal for an lbw! The umpire remains still. Full and tailing back into the batsman, Chase falls over a bit in his attempt to play the flick shot. Misses the ball to get hit on the pads. The appeal is turned down, maybe because it's slipping down the leg side.
64.1 : R Jadeja to Holder, Flatter and shorter on middle, Holder goes back and works it off his pads to mid-wicket.
64.2 : R Jadeja to J Holder, Well tossed up ball on off, fuller in length, it's driven off the front foot to extra cover.
64.3 : R Jadeja to Holder, Fires one in on middle and leg, Holder brings his bat in front of the pads in defense.
64.4 : R Jadeja to Holder, Full floated ball on off, it's pushed off the front foot to covers.
64.5 : R Jadeja to Holder, Tossed up ball on off, Holder drives it off his front foot but finds mid off.
64.6 : R Jadeja to Holder, FOUR! What a way to end the session! Jadeja gives this one some extra air but lands it too full and close to off stump. Holder leans forward, makes some room and drives it crisply through the gap at extra cover. No chance for mid off there. A boundary for Holder. That will be Tea on Day 1!
A mixed session, this! But from a larger point, India will be satisfied with the way this Test match has shaped up for them. Windies are six down with their total still under 200. The pitch appears to be a good one for batting and the way Shane Dowrich and Roston Chase batted, it further vindicates that point.
The visiting team adopted the mantra of 'attack is the best form of defense' post Lunch and hammered 111 runs in the afternoon session. They lost three wickets in the process but looking at their approach, they didn't look too bothered. It seems they have admitted to the fact that it's not possible to survive against India's bowling and hence are playing an aggressive brand of cricket to collect as many runs as possible. Not sure how much that will help their cause.
When you pick three wickets in a session, you generally will be told, well done. It wasn't the same case here. The Indian bowling was too inconsistent. Their line and length were poor and at the beginning, they were conceding at least a boundary in every over. Given that Windies are not a great challenge for them, they can get away with it but against better teams, these things can haunt them. Do join us in a short while for the last session at 1430 local.
... DAY 1, THIRD SESSION ...
We're back for the final session. 25 overs left in the day's play owing to an excellent over-rate, a rarity these days. Will India get Windies all out in the first hour itself? Let's wait and watch. Umesh Yadav to continue from this end. He is getting the ball to tail in which has caused some discomfort to the batsmen. A slip in place and a catching mid-wicket too is present. Play says the umpire...
65.1 : U Yadav to Chase, Runs straightaway, two to be precise. Yadav hurls across a shortish ball outside off, Chase stands back and steers it through cover-point for a couple of runs.
65.2 : U Yadav to Chase, Full and angling down the leg side, Chase clips it off his pads and sends it to deep square leg for another brace. 200 comes up for Windies!
65.3 : U Yadav to Chase, Certainly it's reversing. The shining side of the ball is on the right as Yadav lands it on a length outside off. Chase shoulders arms and it tails back in after going past him. If I'm not wrong, this is the first ball Roston has left in this innings.
65.4 : U Yadav to Chase, Another delivery in the channel outside off, a watchful Roston allows it through to the keeper.
65.5 : U Yadav to Chase, Pitches it full around off and gets it to shape back in, Roston presents a straight willow and keeps it out off the inner half to the leg side.

67.5 : U Yadav to Chase, On a length and around off, once again a slight bit of movement into the batsman, Chase meets it with a straight bat in defense.
67.6 : U Yadav to Chase, The line is too straight on this occasion, Chase works it off his pads to the leg side but finds one of the two mid-wicket fielders.
68.1 : K Yadav to Holder, Tossed up ball on off, a bit short and turning back in, Holder remains on the back foot in defense.
0.0 : Appeal for an lbw, a vociferous one but nothing from the umpire. Has it pitched outside leg? Or turning too much? What about the impact? Too many questions, let's watch the replays...
68.2 : K Yadav to Holder, PITCHED OUTSIDE LEG! No need to watch further. India lose a review. But it was a great delivery to deceive the Windies skipper. Googly, Holder has not picked it as he gets opened up inside the crease. Probably tries to work it around but it spins away to rap him on the front pad. The bowler gets excited in his appeal as the batsmen cross for a leg bye. Virat Kohli now has a chat with his bowler and then goes for the review. The first frame ends every doubt.
68.3 : K Yadav to Chase, FOUR! Strong shot! Too full in length by Kuldeep, around off, Chase uses his long reach well and drills his drive down through mid off for a cracking boundary.
68.4 : K Yadav to Chase, Turning down the leg side, Chase tries flicking but misses.

69.5 : U Yadav to Chase, Overcompensates his length this time. Probably eyes a blockhole but ends up serving very full ball around off, Chase throws his bat at it but gets it away off the inner half of his blade. It speeds to deep square leg and they collect another run.

71.5 : R Ashwin to Chase, Flatter ball on off, Chase goes on the back foot and punches it towards Shaw at silly mid on. He picks up the ball and immediately deflects it onto the stumps at the bowler's end. No harm done as Holder never left his crease. It deflects to covers, the Windies skipper wants a run but Chase is not interested.
71.6 : R Ashwin to Chase, Beaten! Flighted and outside off, Chase tries to push inside the line but it skids through the surface and beats the outside edge.

75.6 : R Ashwin to Holder, Short again, outside off, Holder strokes it from the crease to sweeper cover for one. 7 from the over, they are going along nicely post Tea.
An unscheduled drinks break taken. Even the umpires are enjoying a few sips of fluids. Quite hot and humid conditions. They cannot be faulted for this. Also, the overrate is quite good, so it won't concern the match officials much. There's a bowling change also. Ravindra Jadeja is into the attack.

Drinks, an official one this time. First wicket-less hour of this Test match where 58 runs have been scored. It has been a strong performance post Tea by Windies. Both Holder and Chase have looked quite at ease and are amidst a 73-run stand. India once again have not looked too dangerous with the ball, apart from Umesh Yadav, who was getting some reverse swing going. 89.5 : U Yadav to Chase, NOT OUT! Safely in. Shortish and on off, Chase is hurried up on the back foot as he taps it down towards covers. They attempt for a run as Jadeja attacks the ball. He picks it up, has one stump to aim at the striker's end and still scores the direct hit. They appeal, it's referred upstairs but Holder is safely in.

It's around the batsman's rib cage, Holder feels that he has it covered as he goes for the pull shot. But the Windies skipper fails to middle it and ends up gloving it behind. Pant catches the ball, they appeal and Holder is seen walking. Getting strangled down the leg side is not the prettiest way to get out. Virat Kohli, as usual, is pumped up.

94.4 : K Yadav to Chase, Moves to 97! Flighted and on middle, spinning back in, Chase tries to defend it with a straight bat but inside edges it down to fine leg for a brace.
94.5 : K Yadav to Chase, Extra flight this time, over the batsman's eye level. It drops very full on middle, Chase defends it back to the bowler.
94.6 : K Yadav to Chase, Tossed up ball around off, turning back in, Chase forces it down to long off for a run. Roston gets to the other end thinking there will be more play. But to his surprise, umpire Ian Gould takes the bails off. No more overs to be bowled today and Chase will have a sleepless night on 98. Virat Kohli pats him on the back and now the players are leaving the field. Stumps on Day 1!
98/1 in 30 overs. Another good session of Test cricket and Windies will be pleased with the outcome. However, they would have loved to have their skipper unbeaten. Anyway, Roston Chase's special affinity for India is once again on display as he is only two short of a magnificent century. The visitors have already put up a much-better batting performance than the last Test match and with three wickets left, they would wish to push their score near the 350-run mark.
Earlier in the day, Windies won a good toss and elected to bat. They got off to a decent start but then kept on losing wickets at regular intervals. The post-Lunch session saw plenty of runs flowing as the pair of Roston Chase and Shane Dowrich attacked the Indian bowlers. The former, in particular, was very positive right from the onset. His century stand with skipper Holder dominated the evening session before Umesh Yadav struck late in the day.
For India, six wickets have fallen to the bowlers with similar surnames. Kuldeep Yadav was inconsistent with his line and length but whenever he got it right, he looked dangerous. Umesh Yadav, too, was threatening, especially with the old ball which was reversing. Ravichandran Ashwin was the most accurate bowler. The offie kept it tidy and also picked the first wicket of the day. The unfortunate injury to debutant Shardul Thakur has not cost the hosts much as their three spinners shared the work
Daren Ganga is interviewing Roston Chase. The latter says that he was timing his shots better than the first game and was trying not to overhit the ball. Admits that he was in a bit of rut before that first innings half century and that knock gave him a huge boost. On being asked about how was his mindset on losing partners today, he replies that he wasn't too bothered about what was happening at the other end and was only looking to play his own game. On also being asked about his liking for th
That's all from us. Day 2 is usually considered to be the best day for batting and in all likelihood, the home team will have their turn with the willow. The pitch, in all honesty, has played excellently which was evident from the way the Windies batsmen were stroking their shots. Although there was a bit of inconsistent bounce as the day progressed. Do join us on Saturday morning at 0930 IST (0400 GMT) for all the action. Cheers!
... DAY 2, SESSION 1 ...
It was a rare occurrence on Friday. An opposition team fighting hard against India in India. That too, Windies. Yes, the return of Jason Holder certainly spurred the visitors as they managed to play out an entire day after winning the toss. They just have 3 wickets left though and the first thing on their minds will be Roston Chase's century. How long can they keep India on the field? Hello and a warm welcome to the second day's play of the second Test between India and Windies in Hyderabad.
The morning seemed to indicate that we could see India's batting yesterday itself. However, some solid batting by the middle and lower middle order ensured that there was not a collapse. Small but meaningful partnerships - kept India frustrated. What was worth noting was - the amount of boundaries being scored. As many as 33 fours were hit while 2 went over the ropes. However, credit to Virat Kohli for not keeping the field spread out, even during the Chase-Holder stand.
WEATHER REPORT - The conditions look perfect for playing cricket and even more so, for batting. The hosts will be looking to dismantle the final three wickets and then put their feet up, with their batsmen aiming to score once and score big, again.
PITCH REPORT - Ian Bishop is doing the pitch report. He has a look at the track and reckons that it still looks very, very good. Sunil Gavaskar now joins him. Both see a couple of cracks on the surface but the master reckons that those are near the short of a good length area. They are opening up, he agrees and opines that those will open up even more on Days 3 and 4. For today, even he feels that it is a good pitch to bat on. Does not feel too positive about any ball spinning much today but cou
Umesh Yadav is caught on the sidelines before the start of play for a little chat. He says he knew the track was flat so was focusing more on the line. Adds he bowled a couple of full balls which were going slow, so he tried back of a length which worked for him. States he didn't mind bowling the extra overs since he's quite fit but feels sorry for Shardul Thakur as it's his Test debut. Ends by saying that he wants to start the day full of energy and make an impact.
The Indians walk out and get into a huddle. Now, the overnight batsmen stride out - Roston Chase and Devendra Bishoo. The man who is on 98, will be on strike. Umesh Yadav is marking his run up. All in readiness then. Just the sole slip for Roston. Here we go!
95.1 : U Yadav to R Chase, LEADING EDGE, SAFE! Chase is smiling but boy, his heart would have been in his mouth for a moment. Perhaps an aggressive field would have got India a wicket on the very first ball. On a length, around off, coming in, Roston looks to work it to the leg side but is a tad early into the shot. The ball takes the leading edge and goes to where point would have been but... the human being is stationed in the deep. An easy single and RC moves to 99...
95.2 : U Yadav to Bishoo, Outside leg, angling away, Bishoo misses his tuck and is hit on the pads.
95.3 : U Yadav to Bishoo, Around off, pushed to the off side.
95.4 : U Yadav to Bishoo, Full and outside off, pushed to the off side.
95.5 : U Yadav to Bishoo, The batsman appears to have been struck on the thigh pad.
Shardul Thakur is still not on the field. Mohammed Siraj is on for him as a substitute.
95.6 : U Yadav to Bishoo, OUT! The stumps are a mess. India strike in the very first over of Day 2. Umesh pitches it right up to the batsman but the line is outside off. Bishoo could have left it alone but is a bit tentative as he has a prod. Gets an inside edge which statters the stumps. Wicket number 4 for Umesh. Can he get 5?
Jomel Warrican is the next man in at number 10, replacing Bishoo. Meanwhile, Kuldeep Yadav to bowl from the other end.
96.1 : K Yadav to Chase, TEST CENTURY NUMBER 4 FOR CHASE! He has richly deserved this. Battled hard as usual, with his team in strife in 9 out of 10 occasions. Gets to the landmark with a tuck to mid-wicket for an easy single. Pretty surprised that he has been allowed to get to the landmark without much effort. Normally, when a batsman is in the 90s, you tend to see opposition captains keep the field tight for him. However, not today. Chase will take it though. Well played, sir.
96.2 : K Yadav to Warrican, The batsman has punched the ball off the back foot.
96.3 : K Yadav to Warrican, SIX! THUNDEROUS! Just one block and the next one is whacked. These men from the Caribbean... Tossed up outside off, the googly, Warrican gets down and slogs it over long on! 300 UP FOR THE WINDIES!
96.4 : K Yadav to Warrican, The googly again, this time Jomel plays from the crease and looks to push but misses.
96.5 : K Yadav to Warrican, The batsman shows the full face of the bat and defends the ball off the back foot.
96.6 : K Yadav to Warrican, Another wrong 'un to end the over and another play and a miss.
97.1 : U Yadav to Chase, Full and just outside off, watchfully pushed to the off side.
97.2 : U Yadav to Chase, The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.
97.3 : U Yadav to R Chase, BOTTOM EDGE, FOUR! Another sign of the ball staying low. A touch short, outside off, Chase throws his bat at it but gets beaten by the lack of bounce. The ball takes the bottom edge and goes onto the ground behind. Rishabh Pant dives to his right, but the ball just brushes his outstretched glove and races to the third man fence. The stand is now worth 11 from 9 balls.
97.4 : U Yadav to Chase, Wide outside off, swinging further away, comfortably left alone.
97.5 : U Yadav to Chase, The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.
97.6 : U Yadav to Chase, A bouncer on middle, probably a deliberate ploy to keep Warrican on strike for the next over, Chase ducks.
98.1 : K Yadav to J Warrican, Easy single. Poor effort from the substitute Mohammed Siraj. Full and outside off, Warrican pushes it straight to Siraj at mid off but he does not attack the ball at all. Good game awareness from the Windies batsman as he calls Chase for the quick single, catching MS on his heels.
98.2 : K Yadav to Chase, Full and outside off, driven wide of cover for an easy single.
98.3 : K Yadav to Warrican, The batsman has driven it straight down the ground.
98.4 : K Yadav to Warrican, Pitched around leg, spinning down, Warrican looks to sweep but misses. Is hit on the pads and the Indians appeal but the umpire does not oblige.
98.5 : K Yadav to Warrican, The batsman flicks it away with a wristy shot. The batsmen have run through for a single.
98.6 : K Yadav to Chase, Around off, defended from the crease.
99.1 : U Yadav to Warrican, Full and outside off, swinging away, played nicely to point.
99.2 : U Yadav to Warrican, That is a beauty. On a length outside off, Jomel feels for it but the ball moves away enough, just to beat the outside edge.
99.3 : U Yadav to Warrican, Defended off the back foot by the batsman.
99.4 : U Yadav to Warrican, Around off, blocked from the crease.
99.5 : U Yadav to Warrican, The batsman defends it from within the crease.
99.6 : U Yadav to Warrican, A bouncer to end the over, Jomel ducks. First maiden of the day.
100.1 : K Yadav to Chase, Full and around off, spinning in, watchfully pushed back to the bowler.
100.2 : K Yadav to R Chase, Similar ball, eased down to long on for a single. Clearly Chase is not interested in farming the strike.
100.3 : K Yadav to Warrican, Around off, perhaps the googly, Warrican looks to play for the turn but the ball goes away and takes the inner half of the bat towards short leg. On the bounce.
100.4 : K Yadav to Warrican, The googly again, Jomel has a wild swipe but misses.
100.5 : K Yadav to Warrican, Full and around off, watchfully defended this time.
100.6 : K Yadav to Warrican, Tossed up, outside off, driven straight to cover.
101.1 : U Yadav to Chase, Defended off the back foot by the batsman.
101.2 : U Yadav to Chase, Outside off, left alone.
101.3 : U Yadav to Chase, OUT! Right through the gate! UMESH HAS HIS SECOND TEST 5-FER. First at home. Beautiful bowling to get that wicket. Umesh lands this on a good length on middle and off and gets conventional swing with appreciable movement. Chase is a tad lazy in trying to defend and the ball goes right through bat and pad. Timber. Well played, Mr. Chase. You have given your team something to bowl at.
Fun time. Shannon Gabriel is the last man in. Good test of his patience to see how many balls will he actually look to defend.
101.4 : U Yadav to Gabriel, OUT! Caught behind and Umesh now has his best Test figures. A 6-fer. Bizarre dismissal though. Full and wide outside off, Gabriel initially thinks about letting it go. But then as an afterthought, he feels to have a poke at it. Gets a thick outside edge straight to Rishabh Pant. Now Gabriel smiles, thinking about the review but he is informed that there is none left. WINDIES BOWLED OUT FOR 311!
Just 40 balls needed for India then, to wrap the Windies' innings up on Day 2. One might argue that they 'allowed' Chase to get to his century, not putting enough pressure on him but considering that they conceded just 16 runs this morning, it can be excused.
Not a bad effort from the Windies with the bat. 311 is not a great score but on a track which is starting to be inconsistent, it gives them some sort of a chance. The good thing about their batting this time was that there were no collapses as such. There were small partnerships upfront before the big 104 between Chase and Holder which set things up.
A special mention about Chase. Yes, the conditions were not the most difficult to bat but we cannot take anything away from his effort. Captain Jason Holder strutted his stuff too, fighting hard. The others were guilty of throwing their starts away.
India will not be perturbed with the score but they will be slightly disappointed with their bowling. Ravichandran Ashwin was the only bowler who was consistently nagging while Kuldeep and Jadeja were way off the mark. The former did get 3 wickets but that was because of some silly shot-making. Coming to Umesh Yadav, he was much better this morning but only good in parts yesterday. The nice thing for India was that those 'good in parts' bit resulted in wickets.
Around 81 overs left in the day. How much can India score? How many wickets can the Windies take? Will it be another run fest for the hosts? The questions will be answered in a short while. Stay tuned...
0.1 : S Gabriel to L Rahul, Off the mark straightaway! Full and outside off, Rahul drives it through the covers. It is in the gap and Kieran Powell gets to it from mid off. Just about stops it near the ropes. Three runs taken. The deficit is now 308.
0.2 : S Gabriel to Shaw, Outside off, on a length, punched towards point.
0.3 : S Gabriel to Shaw, The batsman defends it from within the crease.
0.4 : S Gabriel to Shaw, FOUR! Excellent shot to get off the mark! On a length outside off, Shaw leaps with the bounce and guides it behind gully to third man!
A short leg comes in now. Short stuff or double bluff?
0.5 : S Gabriel to Shaw, NO BALL, SIX! Extra effort from Gabriel and he oversteps. Then bowls a long hop, wide outside off. Shaw latches onto it and flays hard. Gets it over third man! The deficit is now 297.
S Gabriel to Shaw, On a length outside off, pushed towards cover.
0.6 : S Gabriel to Shaw, Full and outside off, driven past the sliding bowler down the ground for a quick single. The over finally ends. My colleague could easily go and wash his face, get a cup of coffee and then come and sit. Still, Gabriel was yet to bowl his final ball.
Jason Holder will share the new ball with Gabriel.
1.1 : J Holder to Shaw, Bit of a false start from Holder. Sprays this down the leg side. Shaw looks to flick it fine but fails to make connection.
1.2 : J Holder to Shaw, Full delivery first angling in and then shaping away on off, Shaw brings a straight bat down in defense.
1.3 : J Holder to Shaw, Just ahead of a length, defended by staying right behind the line.
1.4 : J Holder to Shaw, No ball and FOUR! Full and swinging away from outside off, Shaw reaches out to it and plays it off the outer half between the slip cordon and gully. Away to the fence she goes. No ball also signalled as Holder overstepped on that occasion.
J Holder to Shaw, Jason fires it full and it's angling in on leg, catches Shaw low on the pads as he fails to flick it away. No appeal though, it was going down leg.
1.5 : J Holder to Shaw, Short of a good length close to off, kept out by rising on his toes.
1.6 : J Holder to Shaw, Further away outside off, dabbed straight to point.
2.1 : S Gabriel to Rahul, Heavy movement for Gabriel. Comes wide of the crease and angles it in from outside off. Rahul leaves but he doesn't expect so much movement. Luckily for the batsman, still well wide of the off stick.
2.2 : S Gabriel to Rahul, Full in length outside off, coming back in, Rahul defends it off the inner half back down the track.
2.3 : S Gabriel to Rahul, Too far outside off, no shot offered by the batsman.
2.4 : S Gabriel to Rahul, Darts it full and well outside off, once more KL defends it but from the inner portion of the bat.
2.5 : S Gabriel to Rahul, FOUR BYES! That did not rise at all. And it must have stung Shane Dowrich as well. Yikes! Gabriel serves it on a back of a length outside off, Rahul lets it be and the ball keeps really low. Dowrich behind the stumps tries to stop it with his legs but gets struck on the left knee. The ball deflects towards the third man fence for a boundary, but the Windies keeper is down the ground.
Dowrich is receiving some medical attention after copping a blow on the previous delivery. Slight halt in play as a result. Bad news for the touring side - their keeper is being taken off the field. Jason Holder and his men will want him to come back soon. Meanwhile, Jahmar Hamilton will take the gloves.
2.6 : S Gabriel to Rahul, Fullish delivery outside off, blocked off the front foot in front of covers.
3.1 : J Holder to Shaw, FOUR! Shot. As good as they come. Full and swinging away from around off, Shaw opens his body up a bit, along with the bat face, and drives it neatly through cover-point to fine the fence.
3.2 : J Holder to P Shaw, Good effort from Devendra Bishoo. Another good shot from Shaw. He leans ahead and drives the full ball through mid off. Bishoo chases it down well from mid on and pulls it back inside the rope. The batsmen only take two.
3.3 : J Holder to Shaw, Cutting back in from a good length on off, defended from the back foot down on the off side.
3.4 : J Holder to Shaw, Decent stop from Ambris. Prithvi Shaw with a superb cover drive, but can't get it past a diving Sunil Ambris who gets low to his right to stop it.
3.5 : J Holder to Shaw, FOUR BYES! Now, after two good ones, a poor effort shows and it's from the substitute keeper. Down the leg side, Hamilton moves to his left but doesn't get to the ball at all when he should have. It runs away to the fence for a boundary.
3.6 : J Holder to Shaw, Tight line. On off, a good length ball, blocked with the full face of the bat.
4.1 : S Gabriel to Rahul, In the channel outside off, holding its line, KL has nothing to do with that one.
4.2 : S Gabriel to Rahul, FOUR BYES! More extras. All most of the runs going to come via extra today? Seems like it from the looks of things. Gabriel angles it too far down leg and the keeper has no chance to reach it this time. Across the fine leg fence and that's a boundary.
4.3 : S Gabriel to Rahul, Goes fuller this time, keeps it around off, Rahul looks to play the expansive drive but gets an inside edge back onto his pads.
4.4 : S Gabriel to Rahul, Defended off the front foot by the batsman presenting the full face of the bat.
4.5 : S Gabriel to Rahul, Angles this full ball in on the stumps, worked off the inner half in front of square leg for a single.
4.6 : S Gabriel to Shaw, FOUR! Inconsistent with the line again and he's paid the price. On the pads, Shaw comfortably flicks it away through backward square leg, beating fine leg who tries to cut it off.
Jomel Warrican into the attack already. Spin introduced early by the Windies.
5.1 : J Warrican to Rahul, A little too full for his liking, on off, dug out to extra cover by KL.
5.2 : J Warrican to Rahul, Quicker through the air and full outside off, defended easily by coming onto the front foot.
5.3 : J Warrican to Rahul, Similar delivery, similar shot.
5.4 : J Warrican to Rahul, Pushed away in front of covers by coming half-forward.
5.5 : J Warrican to L Rahul, Drifting in on middle and off, Rahul gets his front leg out of the way and drives it to mid on.
5.6 : J Warrican to Rahul, Some drift in again, wristed down towards mid on once more. Can't find the gap.
Change of ends for Jason Holder.
6.1 : J Holder to Shaw, Back of a length on off, cramping the batsman for room. But young Shaw rocks onto the back foot and punches it square to point.
6.2 : J Holder to Shaw, Positions himself perfectly behind the line and blocks.
6.3 : J Holder to Shaw, FOUR! Too full, too straight. Shaw moves inside the line and flicks it ever so well through the gap in the mid-wicket area. Beautifully played, no stopping that.
6.4 : J Holder to Shaw, A little bit of swing away from Shaw, the batsman checks his drive as he places it past the cover fielder. One run taken. The deficit is now 263.
6.5 : J Holder to Rahul, No ball! Seems Gabriel's bad habit is catching on to his skipper. Good length ball shaping away around off, Rahul defends it on the off side. Jason overstepped, so no ball signalled.
J Holder to Rahul, Rahul has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.
6.6 : J Holder to Rahul, Coming back in on leg, angling further down, catches the pads of the batsman as he fails to play the flick shot.
7.1 : J Warrican to Shaw, Drifting in from around the wicket, Prithvi clears his front leg and drives it back down. The bowler gets low to his left and parries it towards mid off.
7.2 : J Warrican to Shaw, FOUR! Takes the aerial route and gets the desired result. Tossed up delivery on off, Shaw decides to take this on. Gets low and slog sweeps it over mid-wicket for a one-bounce boundary. The 50 is up for India with this.
7.3 : J Warrican to Shaw, FOUR! Back-to-back boundaries! Goes the other side this time. Shaw opens his body up to this flighted delivery and drives it through the covers for another boundary.
7.4 : J Warrican to P Shaw, FOUR! Make that number 3. Though, this is a result of some poor fielding from the Windies skipper. Shaw drives it to the left of mid off. Holder moves quickly but can't get low to stop the ball. Lets it through to the fence behind.
7.5 : J Warrican to Shaw, Defended off the front foot by the batsman presenting the full face of the bat.
7.6 : J Warrican to Shaw, Slower through the air on off, blocked by coming well forward.
8.1 : J Holder to Rahul, Width offered outside off, a lot of it, Rahul plays a half-hearted shot and gets beaten on the cut.
8.2 : J Holder to Rahul, Well outside off again, left alone this time.
8.3 : J Holder to Rahul, Better. Attacks the stumps on this occasion, full in length, Rahul keeps bat and pad close together to keep it out.
8.4 : J Holder to Rahul, OUT! Rahul's troubles finally come to an end. He wasn't looking as assured as his partner, pays the price for it. Short of a length just outside off, Rahul is in two minds about what to do. He initially wants to play but then decides to leave it late. The ball takes the inside edge and disturbs the bails. First wicket down for India, against the run of play.
Cheteshwar Pujara walks in at no.3.
8.5 : J Holder to Pujara, Fires it down the leg side, this time Hamilton moves swiftly to his left and catches the ball with a dive.
8.6 : J Holder to Pujara, Length delivery aiming the top of off stump, Pujara defends it solidly from inside the crease.
9.1 : J Warrican to Shaw, Short, flat and on the stumps, punched back to the bowler.
9.2 : J Warrican to Shaw, Shapes up for the cover drive and places it in the gap for a run.
9.3 : J Warrican to Pujara, Slower through the air on off, Pujara strides ahead to keep it out.
9.4 : J Warrican to Pujara, Quick run. Pujara wrists this just wide of mid on and rushes to the other end.
9.5 : J Warrican to Shaw, Nicely played. Mid on is pushed back for Prithvi so he just plays it to the man in the deep. Takes a run for doing so.
9.6 : J Warrican to Pujara, Che is watchful as he plants his front foot ahead and meets the tossed up ball with the full face of the bat.
10.1 : J Holder to Shaw, Uses the angle into him and flicks it away through mid-wicket for one run.
10.2 : J Holder to Pujara, Wide outside off stump, Pujara leaves it alone.
10.3 : J Holder to Pujara, Wide of off again, another leave.
10.4 : J Holder to Pujara, Better from Holder. Has been quite consistent so far with his lines. Keeps it in that off stump channel, makes it go away as Cheteshwar leaves it alone.
10.5 : J Holder to Pujara, Just ahead of a length on off, blocked down right under his nose.
10.6 : J Holder to Pujara, Curving away late from around off, on a length, left alone to end the over.
11.1 : J Warrican to P Shaw, Dropped! Difficult chance as it comes quite fast at him but in such games you've got to be taking those. Spinning away, short in length, Shaw backs away to cut but the ball bounces a bit more and takes the outside edge. Hope at first slip moves to his left, gets his fingertips to it but can't hold on. A brace results.
11.2 : J Warrican to P Shaw, Knocks it down the ground to long on for a run.
11.3 : J Warrican to Pujara, In line of the stumps, met with a defensive bat in response.
11.4 : J Warrican to Pujara, FOUR! Good use of the feet from Cheteshwar Pujara. Good shot. Dances down to get close to the pitch and drives it past mid on to send it across the boundary line.
11.5 : J Warrican to Pujara, Comes out of his crease again but blocks this time.
11.6 : J Warrican to Pujara, The batsman dances down the track once more and decides to defend it.
12.1 : J Holder to P Shaw, Full and outside off, Shaw drives it wide of mid off. Shannon Gabriel puts in a tired effort to his left with a tumble but manages to stop the ball. A single taken.
12.2 : J Holder to Pujara, Defended off the back foot by the batsman.
12.3 : J Holder to Pujara, Full and around off, defended watchfully.
12.4 : J Holder to Pujara, A touch wider outside off, Pujara lets it be.
12.5 : J Holder to Pujara, Full and outside off, Cheteshwar walks into the shot and drives but straight to wide mid off.
12.6 : J Holder to Pujara, On a length outside off, shouldered arms to.
13.1 : J Warrican to Shaw, Full and straight, pushed back to the bowler.
13.2 : J Warrican to P Shaw, Easily done. A half century in just 39 balls. For the second time in two innings, he has touched the 50-mark. And this has been another innings of dominance. Full on middle, pushed down to long on for a single. The dressing room is applauding with plenty of smiles. It has been that sort of a knock.
13.3 : J Warrican to Pujara, Full and outside off, pushed to the off side.
13.4 : J Warrican to Pujara, Comes down the track and drives it straight to cover.
13.5 : J Warrican to Pujara, Comes down the track again and defends.

14.3 : J Holder to Pujara, On a length outside off, cuts back in, Pujara looks to defend but is taken aback by the movement. Looks to fend it away but gets an inside edge which drops down to the leg side.
14.4 : J Holder to Pujara, The batsman has played that off the front foot and into the ground.
14.5 : J Holder to Pujara, Full and around off, watchfully kept out.

15.2 : J Warrican to Pujara, Slow turn, pitched outside off, going away, blocked towards cover.
15.3 : J Warrican to Pujara, FOUR! Superb from Pujara. Great timing. Fractionally short outside off, the right-hander goes back and punches it between cover and point. Devendra Bishoo gives it a good chase from cover but comes second best.
15.4 : J Warrican to Pujara, Comes down the track and blocks.
15.5 : J Warrican to Pujara, The batsman has played that off the front foot and into the ground.
15.6 : J Warrican to Pujara, Full and around off, watchfully kept out. LUNCH ON DAY 2, INDIA TRAIL BY 231 RUNS!
What a session for India. Started by Umesh. Finished by Shaw. The Windies might have scored 311 but they look totally downcast at the moment.
Prithvi Shaw is the man for the future for India. The young genes in him have made his team take the bull by the horns. On a pitch where Rahul was tentative, Pujara has not yet looked free-flowing, this lad is in his zone. Has an array of shots and is displaying those for everyone to see.
Nothing much to talk about the Windies' bowling. The opening over went for 15 runs and that set the tone. It has looked nothing short of listless and the only wicket that they have got has been because of Rahul's misjudgement. They might have had Shaw but right now, Midas has been reborn in the form of the Mumbai lad.
With such an attacking beginning, India now trail by 231. The pitch is starting to play tricks and hence, this sort of cricket could be the best option on this track. Because you never know, a wicket here could trigger a couple more. Join us back at 1210 local (0640 GMT).
... DAY 2, SESSION 2 ...
We are back after the Luncheon interval. Will we see any better effort in the field from the Windies? The players are slowly making their way out. Roston Chase will start off things after Lunch. Shaw to face. Here we go!
16.1 : R Chase to Shaw, On the pads, an easy giveaway, a single towards square leg with the flick. The stand moves to 20.
16.2 : R Chase to Pujara, Full and around middle, flicked straight to backward square leg.
16.3 : R Chase to Pujara, A bit of drift, bowled on the pads, turned towards backward square leg.
16.4 : R Chase to Pujara, This is around off, Pujara gets a long way across and flicks - but straight to backward square leg again.
16.5 : R Chase to Pujara, Fullish on middle, this is flicked to short mid-wicket now.

46.6 : J Holder to Rahane, A wide ball outside off to end the session, left alone. TEA ON DAY 2, INDIA TRAIL BY 138!
Well, the session figures read 93 runs in 31 overs for three wickets but we can split that into two halves. 53 runs came in 14 overs till the Drinks break but after that, it has been a real struggle to score runs. The Windies have been disciplined and economical and as a result, eked out a few wickets.
The session started with Prithvi Shaw resuming his run-scoring panache but once he was dismissed, the visitors found their way back into the game a bit. They dried out the runs, got a few maiden overs on the trot and then, just before Tea, Holder managed to nip out his counterpart.
Excellent bowling from Jomel Warrican in particular. He managed to get the big wicket of Prithvi Shaw and then, stifled the scoring. Bishoo has been equally economical, with figures of 11-4-28-0. So the plan from the Windies is quite clear - dry out the runs and induce mistakes from the batsmen.
India are not behind by much, but they just need to be a bit more careful here. This pitch is such that a wicket could lead to a couple more and if the Windies manage to break the Rahane-Pant stand quickly, they could suddenly start thinking about the lead. On the flip side, if Pant gets going, that deficit could come down pretty quickly. Batting in the second innings is not going to be easy at all. Stay tuned for the final session, where 34 overs are scheduled to be bowled.

72.3 : J Warrican to Pant, SIX! TONK! This is a much better hit. Boy, he is going for that century today. Warrican has enough courage to toss the ball up and once again, Pant puts his dancing shoes on. This time he gets to the pitch of the ball and swings it over mid-wicket. 74.4 : J Warrican to Rahane, FOUR! Not a bad result for India, but perhaps Pant fans will not like that. A tad short, Rahane goes back and works it through mid-wicket. The Windies vice-captain, Kraigg Brathwaite, has been brought on to bowl.

Surprising. Shannon Gabriel comes back. 11-1-69-1 so far. Don't think the second new ball will be taken because just 3 overs are left today. Meanwhile, we finally get an update on Shane Dowrich - his left knee is just bruised, no bones are broken. So we could see him tomorrow on the field.
78.1 : S Gabriel to Rahane, A length ball just outside off, dabbed on the bounce to the keeper.
78.2 : S Gabriel to Rahane, Around off, helped to the leg side for a single.

Final over of the day then. The second new ball is available. Will the Windies take it? Not immediately.
80.1 : S Gabriel to Rahane, Outside off, tapped towards cover for a single.
80.2 : S Gabriel to Pant, Where did that come from? A rare jaffa. Full and outside off, Pant comes forward to defend but at the last moment, the ball pitches and moves away to beat the outside edge!
80.3 : S Gabriel to Pant, NO BALL. This is not for overstepping but because Gabriel's back leg was cutting the return crease. Superb call from Bruce Oxenford. Around middle and off, on a length, solidly defended.
S Gabriel to Pant, Fuller in length, in line of the stumps, pressed towards short mid-wicket.
80.4 : S Gabriel to Pant, Wide outside off, fuller in length, tempting the drive but Rishabh restrains and shoulders his arms.
80.5 : S Gabriel to Pant, On a length on middle, blocked back to the bowler.
80.6 : S Gabriel to Pant, A full toss outside off, RP drives it crisply but straight to mid off. STUMPS ON DAY 2, INDIA TRAIL BY 3!
Superb stuff from India. They have showed why they are such a great force to reckon with. The main in-form batsmen were dismissed around Tea time but then we witnessed a stunning fightback.
Pant and Rahane started the final session cautiously but as the period progressed, the former started to get into his own. In a partnership of 146, the southpaw has scored 85. 135 runs came in the final session in 34 overs. The wicketkeeper batsman was in particular, hard on the bowling while Rahane was just content in blocking and milking the bowling.
The Windies had their chances. They had India in a spot of bother at 162/4 with Kohli gone but then fluffed a simple chance offered by Pant. The result was toil and more toil. Jason Holder was the pick of the bowlers with 2/45 while the rest lost the plot during the Pant-Rahane stand.
Earlier in the day, Roston Chase managed to get his century but could not quite add much with the tail. Prithvi Shaw then set the stadium alight with a blitzkrieg 70 from just 53 balls. He looked to get consecutive centuries but one false shot brought about his downfall. This is what he has to say as Sanjay Manjrekar has a chat with him.
The young opener says he was just trying to play his natural game but couldn't convert it into a big one. Adds he enjoyed it though and it was a good batting surface. States that from U-16 level he's been trying to play the ball on its merit, which is his strength. Stresses that he does not want to get confused by thinking too much and intends to continue playing the way he is. Reckons that Gabriel and Holder were bowling quickly, so he just tried to use their pace and find the gaps as best as h
Right then! The game has moved ahead slightly. India still in a good position to take a lead close to 100 on Sunday but considering that it is a Day 3 pitch, you can never rule out explosions. If India are restricted to 350, we might be in for a one-inning shootout. Join us at 0930 local (0400 GMT) for all the action. ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
... Day 3, First Session ...
The tie still lies very much in the balance. You could say India are ahead at the moment, but one or two more wickets could change the complexion of the game. The Windies weren't very good with the ball and in the field, to say the least, on Day 2. Some lacklustre displays on their part has seen the hosts come close to the total they posted on the board. Will they manage to take a big lead today? We shall find out. Hello and welcome, folks, for what should be another entertaining day of Test cri
The away side was no clinical enough, but it did have its moments. Managed to wickets at regular intervals, before the huge (unbeaten) Rahane-Pant stand. Spin kept a check on the leaking, will pace back it up though? A lot rides on it. A couple of early wickets this morning could swing the tide in their favour. We'll see how things unfold.
The Windies get into a customary huddle. No Shane Dowrich still, as we see Jahmar Hamilton ready with his keeping gloves. Out come the overnight batsmen - Rishabh Pant and Ajinkya Rahane.
Not surprising. THE SECOND NEW BALL HAS BEEN TAKEN STRAIGHTAWAY. Jason Holder to make the first use of it. Rahane to face. Let's play!
81.1 : J Holder to Rahane, Too straight in line as Holder sprays it on the pads, Rahane flicks it straight to mid-wicket.
81.2 : J Holder to Rahane, FOUR! First runs of the morning. Fuller in length and outside off, Rahane takes a step forward and plays a punchy-drive through the covers. The fielders give it a chase, but can't get to it in time. The stand moves to 150 with that and also, India are in the lead.
81.3 : J Holder to Rahane, Coming in at first and then shaping away, around off, Rahane stays behind the line and defends.
81.4 : J Holder to Rahane, Behind a length, close to off, it's safely kept out off the back foot.
81.5 : J Holder to Rahane, On the sixth stump line, no way Ajinkya will have anything to do with that.
81.6 : J Holder to Rahane, Down the leg side on this occasion, Rahane looks to flick but misses. A wasted over with the new ball in all honesty. Holder needs to do better.
Shannon Gabriel to bowl from the other end and share the second new ball.
82.1 : S Gabriel to Pant, Comes from around the wicket and angles in a back of a length delivery on middle and off, Pant looks to play at it but gets an inside edge back onto his body.
82.2 : S Gabriel to Pant, Rising from a good length, on off, gets more meat on it as he defends it down on the leg side.
82.3 : S Gabriel to Pant, Touch fullish outside off, pushed into the covers for a single.
82.4 : S Gabriel to A Rahane, Over the wicket now. Width on offer, Rahane cuts this fiercely but it's fine stop from Shai Hope at short third man. The placement wasn't as good, a bit too close to him, but it came at him fast. He reacted well to his right to make a stop.
82.5 : S Gabriel to Rahane, Short of a good length outside off, Rahane gets on top of the bounce and punches it to deep point. Single to the total.
82.6 : S Gabriel to Pant, Switches the angle again, length ball on off and it's defended well by Pant right beside him.
Rahane has been caught. The umpires though are checking for the front foot no ball, to nobody's surprise.
83.1 : J Holder to Rahane, OUT! GONE! Will you look at that? A much better line with the new ball and Jason Holder reaps the benefits. Back of a length delivery around off which shoots off the deck, Rahane is taken by surprise and awkwardly fends it away. It goes off the outer half and flies straight to Hope at gully. Rahane is asked to wait for a second to see if the Windies captain overstepped his line and replays show he's fine. So a fine knock from Rahane comes to an end.
0.0 : Ravindra Jadeja is the next batsman in.
83.2 : J Holder to Jadeja, Appreciable movement from Holder. Lands it outside off and it comes back in a long way, Jadeja covers the line and lets it be.
83.3 : J Holder to Jadeja, OUT! GONE! Second of the over for Holder and he's on fire here. The new ball working wonders for him and Windies. What a start for them. Once again pitches it outside off and it swings in a long way, Jadeja without much foot movement looks to defend it from the front foot but is caught flush in front of the stumps. A loud appeal and the finger goes up without wasting any time. India in a spot of bother now.
Ravichandran Ashwin is in next to bat.
83.4 : J Holder to Ashwin, Outside off on a good length, left alone by Ashwin.
Review taken. Ashwin has been adjudged not out by umpire Ian Gould, but Holder reckons it is LBW. Is it missing leg?
83.5 : Holder to Ashwin, NOT OUT! UMPIRE'S CALL! Ashwin has been saved by a hair's breadth. Holder nearly had three in the over. The second new ball is talking. On a length outside off, Ashwin gets across, looking to tuck but the cherry moves in a long way and misses the bat, hitting the pad. Holder appeals, umpire Ian Gould thinks for a while but then shakes his head. He is dejected a touch, has a chat with his mates and then goes for the review. Umpire's call shows Hawk Eye when it comes to hit

85.3 : J Holder to Ashwin, Fires it full on this occasion, driven to mid on with a straight bat.

85.5 : J Holder to Pant, Hits the deck hard and bangs it in short, Pant defends it down in front of covers and wants the run. Too risky, so Ashwin rightly sends him back.
85.6 : J Holder to Pant, On the shorter side of things again, blocked down firmly in front of covers.
86.1 : S Gabriel to Ashwin, Fraction straight in line, on a back of a length, nudged in front of square leg for an easy run. Pant, who's into the 90s, comes on strike.
86.2 : S Gabriel to Pant, Short ball on off, blocked right under his eye-line.
86.3 : S Gabriel to Pant, OUT! What a superb catch! Rishabh Pant is dismissed for 92, missing out on a hundred again. Oh, dear. How unfortunate for him. Gabriel pounds it in short outside off and Pant rises to punch this aerially on the off side. Can't keep it down and the placement isn't as good as he would have expected. A bit too close to Hetmyer, who still has a lot of work to do. He moves to his right swiftly and takes an excellent diving catch. Windies back in this game. They'll look to cle
Kuldeep Yadav walks into the middle next. A short leg is in place for him.
86.4 : S Gabriel to Yadav, Bumper on off, deviating in the air. Goes away slightly and beats the outside edge of Kuldeep's hanging bat.
86.5 : S Gabriel to Yadav, Back of a length on off, blocked with the full face of the bat.
86.6 : S Gabriel to Yadav, Serves this on a good length this time, keeps it around that off stump channel, Kuldeep blocks. This is the much improved performance from the Windies seamers, have bowled better in the 6 overs this morning than they did all day on Day 2.
87.1 : J Holder to Ashwin, Shortish delivery on middle, Ashwin uses the angle and works it square on the leg side.

0.0 : Three slips in place, along with a gully, for Kuldeep.
88.2 : S Gabriel to Yadav, Around the off stick, blocked safely from inside the crease.
88.3 : S Gabriel to Yadav, Good movement from Gabriel. Angles it in at first and then makes it go away late, Kuldeep plays inside the line and gets beaten.
88.4 : S Gabriel to Yadav, Fuller on off, tapped down in front of covers. Both batsmen take off and complete the run with ease.

89.6 : J Warrican to Ashwin, Pushed away to the cover fielder off the front foot to end the over.
90.1 : S Gabriel to Yadav, FOUR! Gabriel pitches this right up and Kuldeep is expecting this. He drives it through the gap in the covers. Warrican chases it down and tries to pull it back in with a slide, but it seems he can't as he his foot his touching the rope while doing so. Replays confirm the same. Boundary signalled.
90.2 : S Gabriel to Yadav, Angling in on middle and leg, nudged to mid-wicket for a run.
Second slip comes out and moves to deep mid-wicket.
90.3 : S Gabriel to Ashwin, Short of a length outside off, rising even more, Ashwin flashes at it and misses.
90.4 : S Gabriel to Ashwin, Does well to move inside the line and work this neatly through backward square leg. The man in the deep mops it up as the batsmen take one.
90.5 : S Gabriel to Yadav, Bumper around leg which is too high for Kuldeep to even consider playing at. He ducks and Hamilton behind can't collect on the first attempt, but does well not to concede a run.
90.6 : S Gabriel to Yadav, Full ball angling away around off, dug out in front of covers.
91.1 : J Warrican to Ashwin, Sliding in with the angle, Ashwin defends it down on the leg side.
91.2 : J Warrican to Ashwin, Turning away from around off, blocked with the full face of the bat.
91.3 : J Warrican to Ashwin, Tossed up, slower through the air, the batsman just checks his push and it pops into the air to the bowler's left. Luckily for him, it falls safely.
91.4 : J Warrican to Ashwin, Takes a big stride forward and pushes it back down the track.
91.5 : J Warrican to Ashwin, Defended off the front foot by the batsman presenting the full face of the bat.
91.6 : J Warrican to Ashwin, Oooh! Close. Ashwin survives again. Loopy and fuller outside off, he gets a leading edge which goes aerially towards covers. Falls short of the fielder there though and Ashwin survives.
Drinks break. Probably the best start Windies could have asked for this morning. Have picked up 3 wickets via Jason Holder (2) and Shannon Gabriel (1) to make their way back in this contest. Still plenty left, mind. Ashwin is out there with Kuldeep and the pair can bat. The Indians will be looking to get a lead around 50-60 runs. Will this partnership add valuable runs or will the tourists wrap the home side up before the end of the session? Also, Jason Holder is back into the attack.
92.1 : J Holder to Yadav, Banana swing! Something which my colleague GG will not like. He is suffering from cold, you see. So no bananas for him, though he is ready to have a milkshake. Anyways, coming to the ball. Holder comes from around the wicket and bowls a fuller length outside off. The ball curls a long way into the left-hander, though Kuldeep watches it till the last moment and blocks. Strangely, only Holder has been able to extract any movement so far.
92.2 : J Holder to Yadav, Full and just around off, watchfully defended.
92.3 : J Holder to Yadav, This goes the other way. Jason is bowling a dream spell this morning. Full and wide outside off, Yadav looks to push but misses. He is lucky not to have edged it.
92.4 : J Holder to Yadav, On a length, around middle, coming in, KY misses his tuck and is hit on the pads.
92.5 : J Holder to Yadav, Outside off, played straight to point.

93.1 : J Warrican to Ashwin, Full and outside off, eased towards cover.
93.2 : J Warrican to Ashwin, Around off, watchfully defended.

94.1 : J Holder to Yadav, On a length around off, defended watchfully.
94.2 : J Holder to Yadav, Full and around off, watchfully defended.
94.3 : J Holder to Yadav, Back of a length delivery around off, Kuldeep looks to force it through the off side but is done in by the bounce. The ball rolls off the inner half towards mid-wicket.
94.4 : Holder to K Yadav, OUT! Lock, stock and barrel! Holder has five! The good morning continues to get better for the Windies skipper. This is real fast bowling, on a not-so-fast pitch. Holder maintains his line outside off and the length is good as well. Kuldeep looks to defend, thinking that he has covered the line but to his dismay, the ball jags back in off the seam. Beats the bat, beats the pad but does not beat the stumps. Uproots the off stump as if a missile has struck. Terrific. 5th 5
One Yadav replaces another. Umesh comes out at number 10, replacing Kuldeep.
94.5 : J Holder to Yadav, On a length around off, watchfully pushed towards cover.
94.6 : J Holder to Yadav, Around middle, defended to the leg side. FOURTH MAIDEN IN A ROW.
95.1 : J Warrican to Ashwin, Outside off, played towards point.
95.2 : J Warrican to Ashwin, Full and around off, watchfully defended.
95.3 : J Warrican to Ashwin, Full again, pushed back to the bowler.
95.4 : J Warrican to Ashwin, FINALLY A RUN AFTER 29 BALLS! The crowd cheers that. The Windies have tied up the runs so anything added to the score is applauded. Around middle, a tad short, helped towards mid-wicket for a single.
95.5 : J Warrican to U Yadav, Full and outside off, Umesh blasts this through the covers but cannot get past the mountain called Jason Holder.
95.6 : J Warrican to Yadav, The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.
96.1 : J Holder to Ashwin, Full and outside off, hint of outswing, Ashwin covers the line nicely and pushes the ball to cover.
96.2 : J Holder to Ashwin, Around off, well blocked out.
96.3 : J Holder to Ashwin, Around off and outside off, Ash pushes it behind point and gets a single. Moves to 10.
96.4 : J Holder to Yadav, Extensive movement! Full and outside off, Umesh comes forward but then lets the ball go. However, the ball swings a long way further to the off side.
96.5 : J Holder to Yadav, Similar ball, this time there is not much movement, though Yadav did not play at this one either.
96.6 : J Holder to Yadav, Full and straight, well kept out by UY, towards mid on.
Okay... the camera pans on Shardul Thakur. He is padded up, which means that he will come out to bat if and when the 9th wicket falls.
97.1 : J Warrican to Ashwin, Around off, spinning away, a touch short, punched towards mid on.
97.2 : J Warrican to Ashwin, Comes down the track and flicks it through mid-wicket for a single.
97.3 : J Warrican to Yadav, Full and just outside off, well defended.
97.4 : J Warrican to Yadav, Lovely loop! What a change of pace too. Warrican tosses this beautifully, well over the batsman's eyeline, outside off. Umesh's eyes light up, as he looked to play the slog sweep. But the ball is so slow, 65 kph to be precise, that he cannot delay his shot any further and ends up missing it altogether!
97.5 : J Warrican to Yadav, Full on middle, pushed towards mid on for a quick single. Gets off the mark.
97.6 : J Warrican to Ashwin, Played to the point region by the batsman.
98.1 : J Holder to Yadav, Full on middle, almost a yorker, swinging in, well played by Umesh Yadav wide of mid on for a single.
98.2 : J Holder to Ashwin, On a length, around middle, helped straight to mid-wicket.
98.3 : J Holder to Ashwin, Ahhh... on a length outside off, Ashwin looks to steer it towards third man but is beaten due to the extra bounce. Almost nicked it behind.
98.4 : J Holder to Ashwin, Much fuller, defended watchfully.
98.5 : J Holder to Ashwin, Nearly his 6th! Lucky miss for Ashwin. On a length around off, RA gets across to defend but the ball sneaks in, takes the inside edge, hits the pads and almost hits the stumps! Drops beside them, to his relief.
98.6 : J Holder to Ashwin, Outside off, Ashwin taps it to the off side. Umesh wants a single but is sent back. The fielder from gully comes charging in and then has a shy at the bowler's end, only to miss. Umesh was in though.
99.1 : J Warrican to Yadav, Full and around off, watchfully defended.
99.2 : J Warrican to Yadav, OUT! Caught behind! Warrican has his second. He has been trying endlessly to get batsmen driving and caught behind, and eventually gets one. Slightly short, outside off, Umesh looks to cut but only gets a thick nick behind. Luckily for Windies, that sticks. Jahmar Hamilton almost spills this one too. Ashwin is disappointed. INDIA'S LEAD READS 28.
Shardul Thakur is the last man in, braving his injury and the heat.
99.3 : J Warrican to Thakur, Outside off, left alone.
99.4 : J Warrican to Thakur, Full and around off, watchfully defended.
99.5 : J Warrican to S Thakur, Full on middle, pushed towards mid on.
99.6 : J Warrican to Thakur, Short and outside off, crunched through the covers for a single. Gets off the mark.
100.1 : J Holder to Thakur, Outside off, Thakur looks to defend but the ball comes in, takes the inside edge and goes past the stumps towards fine leg. A single taken.
100.2 : J Holder to Ashwin, Full and outside off, driven towards long off. THEY DO NOT RUN.
100.3 : J Holder to Ashwin, Full on middle, Ashwin flicks it towards short mid-wicket.
100.4 : J Holder to Ashwin, Yes-yes, no-no. On a length around middle, Ashwin pushes it towards long on. He sets off for a single but Shardul has not taken a start. He then starts to limp across and now Ashwin stops, because he is not sure whether Thakur can make it to the other end before the throw comes in. So he sends his partner back.
100.5 : J Holder to Ashwin, Around off, coming in, punched towards mid on.
100.6 : J Holder to Ashwin, A big heave-ho. Not sure why. A length ball outside off, RA backs away and swings hard, only to miss.
101.1 : J Warrican to Thakur, Full and around off, Thakur leans and works it wide of mid on for a single.
101.2 : J Warrican to Ashwin, Full and around off, Ashwin comes down the track and pushes it past the diving bowler towards long on for a run.
101.3 : J Warrican to Thakur, A tad short, helped towards mid-wicket.
101.4 : J Warrican to Thakur, Eased through mid-wicket for a run.
101.5 : J Warrican to Ashwin, IN THE AIR... BUT WIDE! Full and wide outside off, nicely tossed up, Ashwin reaches out and looks to drive. He spoons it in the air wide of cover and gets a single.
101.6 : J Warrican to Thakur, Full and around off, pushed towards the bowler.
Okay. So Windies will not be batting in this session, given that 10 minutes are left. However, if the last wicket is not taken by 1130 local, then Lunch will be extended by half an hour. Here is Shannon Gabriel. 18-1-91-2 so far.
102.1 : S Gabriel to Ashwin, On a length outside off, Ashwin comes forward and defends.
102.2 : S Gabriel to Ashwin, Full and outside off, RA drives it towards sweeper cover but does not run.
102.3 : S Gabriel to Ashwin, A short ball outside off, coming in. Ashwin looks to pull but misses.
102.4 : S Gabriel to Ashwin, Full and outside off, driven towards long off. Again, they do not run.
The field comes in now.
102.5 : S Gabriel to Ashwin, FOUR! Deft guide! Not a bad shot from Ashwin at all. The ball is on a length outside off and it comes in, cramping him slightly for room. But great presence of mind from the all-rounder to realize that the ball is not bouncing much. Just opens the face of the bat and guides it over gully to third man! Gabriel smiles. The stand moves to 10 now.
102.6 : S Gabriel to Ashwin, TOP EDGE, SAFE! Could have been a run out too! Luck is with India and Ashwin at the moment. A short ball, around off, Ashwin looks to pull but gets a top edge as he is cramped for room again. However, such is his luck that the edge is so limp, that Shimron Hetmyer cannot get to it even from short mid-wicket! He misfields too, which allows Thakur to limp across. Had Hetmyer fielded it properly, India would have been bowled out with a run out at the striker's end.
Devendra Bishoo is given an opportunity now. 19-4-72-0 so far.
103.1 : D Bishoo to Ashwin, Around off, defended from the crease.
103.2 : D Bishoo to Ashwin, FOUR! VIOLENCE! Dragged short, Ashwin pulls it behind square leg and gets a boundary!
103.3 : D Bishoo to Ashwin, The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.
103.4 : D Bishoo to Ashwin, Full and around off, pushed back to the bowler.
103.5 : D Bishoo to Ashwin, Comes down the track and pushes the ball towards mid on. Takes a quick single, makes it easily at the bowler's end but poor Shardul has to test his weak hamstring. Just about makes it.
103.6 : D Bishoo to Thakur, A short ball, on middle, Thakur pulls it with one hand towards deep mid-wicket. Jomel Warrican in the deep had to cover some distance to his left but India do not run. Probably Ashwin thought they did not have enough time to get two. So a dot ball.
104.1 : S Gabriel to Ashwin, Lazy from Jomel Warrican. A short ball outside off, Ashwin punches this through the covers. Should have been just a single, but Warrican takes his own sweet time from long off, gets to the ball, then slides and gets up taking a lot of time. Enough to ensure that India hobble back for the second.
104.2 : S Gabriel to Ashwin, The batsman shows the full face of the bat and defends the ball off the back foot.
104.3 : S Gabriel to Ashwin, TOP EDGE, FOUR! INDIA'S LEAD TOUCHES 50! This last wicket stand is worth 22 from 31 balls. Crucial, useful runs. Not Gabriel's mistake at all. He tests Ashwin with a bouncer and cramps him for room. The batsman goes for the pull but gets a to edge through fine leg which bounces just before the ropes.
104.4 : S Gabriel to Ashwin, Another bouncer, this is ducked under.
104.5 : Gabriel to Ashwin, Full and straight, RA misses his flick and gets hit on the pads. Gabriel puts in an appeal but it is turned down because it is going down. The ball, that is.
104.6 : S Gabriel to Ashwin, A length ball around off, helped towards deep backward square leg for a single. Ashwin moves to 30. Excellent knock under pressure.
105.1 : D Bishoo to Ashwin, Tossed up around middle, Ashwin lunges and works it to the leg side.
105.2 : D Bishoo to Ashwin, A short ball, punched towards long on. No run again.
105.3 : D Bishoo to Ashwin, Quicker one, helped towards short mid-wicket.
105.4 : D Bishoo to Ashwin, Another long hop, punched towards long on and this time they run.
105.5 : D Bishoo to Thakur, Short and outside off, punched through the covers. Ashwin wants a run but then changes his mind.
105.6 : D Bishoo to Thakur, Full and on middle, well played by Thakur back to Bishoo.
106.1 : S Gabriel to R Ashwin, Full and outside off, Ashwin comes forward to defend but gets squared up. The ball runs off the outside edge behind point towards third man. They do not run.
106.2 : S Gabriel to Ashwin, FOUR! Easy runs. A full toss, on middle, Ashwin just clips it through mid-wicket. There are two men in the deep - at square leg and mid-wicket. However, Shimron Hetmyer at the latter position runs around the ball, instead of across it and ends up chasing it, instead of cutting it off.
106.3 : S Gabriel to Ashwin, That bounced. On a length outside off, Ashwin looks to defend but the ball rises steeply and hits the bat on the handle. Ashwin felt the jarring on the impact and immediately took his right hand off.
106.4 : Gabriel to R Ashwin, OUT! The middle stump is out of the ground. Gabriel ends India's resistance. A length ball just outside off, Ashwin looks to defend but the cherry lands on a crack and then zoots in. Past the bat and crash. INDIA GET A LEAD OF 56!
India will smile a bit on the last wicket fightback but overall, it has been Windies' session. They were probably staring at a lead of 100-150 overnight but this morning, they bowled with venom and have restricted the hosts to a lead of 56. The fielding was excellent as well.
The hosts started the day confidently but then suddenly encountered a nightmare in Jason Holder. He took charge of the second new ball and removed Rahane and Jadeja in quick succession, before Gabriel accounted for Pant. All these without giving away too much runs. The visitors then kept taking wickets and had India on the mat, before Ashwin and Thakur provided a 28-run resistance.
Jason Holder was clearly the pick of the bowlers, with a 5-fer but the Windies clearly missed Kemar Roach. The decision to pick Jomel Warrican ahead of the in-form Roach has backfired big time and the tourists will hope that the left-arm spinner does better in the final innings. Gabriel picked up three but was nowhere near his best.
India will be disappointed, to say the least. They had two overnight batsmen, then two more in Ashwin and Jadeja to follow. They would have targetted 400 at least but that last wicket stand gives them something to smile. Now a lead of 56, could have been around 30. In a one-inning shootout, every run is priceless. Credit to Ashwin for hanging in there and not throwing it away. Bigger credit to Thakur and the team management for taking the decision to bat.
What can we expect post Lunch? The pitch has already started to crumble and do not be surprised, if the Windies lose wickets quickly. On the flip side, if the tourists manage to get around 150 runs today and then try and reach upto 200 tomorrow, we could have a game on our hands. Join us back at 1225 local (0655 GMT).
0.1 : U Yadav to K Brathwaite, Oh! Action right off the bat... both literally and figuratively. Umesh was on a hat-trick and he just about missed out. Bowls an outswinger, a low full toss on off, Brathwaite brings a straight bat down and sends it to gully on the bump. Close one.
0.2 : U Yadav to Brathwaite, OUT! GONE! Umesh draws first blood. Continuing from where he left off in the last innings. Bit fortunate though, as this can be considered as a soft dismissal. Full and down the leg side, Brathwaite looks to tickle it fine. Gets a feather on it and Pant behind the stumps dives to his left and takes a superb catch.
Shai Hope walks in at no.3.
0.3 : U Yadav to Hope, Outside off on a good length, left alone.
0.4 : U Yadav to Hope, Coming in at first and then straightening up after pitching, on off, Hope is squared up a bit as he defends it off the outer half square on the off side.
0.5 : U Yadav to Hope, Heavy movement as the ball swings away from outside off, Hope leaves it alone.
0.6 : U Yadav to Hope, Eventful first over from Umesh Yadav. A wicket maiden to begin things. Full and fired in on middle and leg, flicked gently on the leg side.
Ravichandran Ashwin to bowl from the other end. He will share the new ball with Umesh.
1.1 : R Ashwin to Powell, Didn't carry! Oh, there was an inside edge for sure. Powell survives. Ashwin comes from around the wicket and drifts it in on off, Powell comes half-forward to defend and gets an inside edge back onto his front pad. It falls just in front of Shaw at silly point.
1.2 : R Ashwin to Powell, Spinning away from outside off, left alone.
1.3 : R Ashwin to Powell, Straighter one, fired quicker outside off, Powell has nothing to do with it.
1.4 : R Ashwin to Powell, Landing on off before going away again, Kieran shoulders arms once more.
1.5 : R Ashwin to Powell, Arm ball, sliding in on middle and a little short in length too, Powell goes deep inside the crease and blocks it out.
1.6 : R Ashwin to Powell, Gets right behind the line of this one and plays it away from danger.
2.1 : U Yadav to Hope, Too far outside off, on a good length, no shot offered by the batsman.
2.2 : U Yadav to Hope, Length ball on off with some shape away after coming in at first, Hope opens his body up a bit as he defends it down in front of point.
2.3 : U Yadav to Hope, Good carry for Umesh. Good length delivery in the channel outside off, rises too as Pant takes it in front of his face.
2.4 : U Yadav to Hope, That's the perfect line and the perfect length. Keeps it on that fourth stump line, has pace, shape and a hint of away swing. Hope prods forward and shoulders arms.
2.5 : U Yadav to S Hope, FOUR! Too full and too straight from Umesh, Hope leans ahead and flicks this neatly through mid-wicket to find the fence. Lovely shot.
2.6 : U Yadav to Hope, Spills it on the pads again, clipped through backward square leg. Jadeja from fine leg cuts it off and keeps the batsmen down to two.
3.1 : R Ashwin to Powell, Fuller and quicker outside off, blocked down in front of silly point.
3.2 : R Ashwin to Powell, Slightly slower through the air, outside off, Powell covers the line and defends.
Kieran Powell has been caught at first slip, but it's taken upstairs as the umpires want to check if the catch is taken cleanly or not. The soft signal is out.
3.3 : R Ashwin to Powell, OUT! It is clean and Powell has to make the long walk. Both openers are back in the dugout now within 4 overs. Loopy and on a driving length around off, it spins away ever so slightly as Powell is forward in defense. It takes the outside edge and goes behind to Rahane at first slip who gets low to his left and takes it. It looks a bit dicey, so the umpires refer it upstairs. Replays show that Rahane got his fingers underneath the ball. Second wicket down for Windies.
Shimron Hetmyer is the new man in.
3.4 : R Ashwin to Hetmyer, Quite full and outside off, dug out on the off side by Hetmyer.
3.5 : R Ashwin to Hetmyer, Rising off the surface as it's pitched outside off, left alone.

0.0 : The camera now pans to the Windies dressing room. Shane Dowrich is shown padded. This morning, he was going through the routines with his left knee strapped up. It will be interesting to see whether he can run efficiently. Could be a better idea to send him in at the spot of the last recognized batsman - possibly after Holder. Gives him more time to rest.
22.2 : U Yadav to Ambris, FOUR! WINDIES GET INTO THE LEAD. A short ball, around middle, Ambris swivels and pulls it behind square leg. Cheteshwar Pujara is stationed at deep mid-wicket and cannot get to the ball. First boundary for Sunil, who moves into 11.

Chase was one man who could have hung around. WINDIES ARE EFFECTIVELY 12/5.

25.6 : K Yadav to Ambris, Outside off, pushed straight to point.
26.1 : U Yadav to Dowrich, OUT! The off stump is out of the ground! Beautifully bowled again. Umesh Yadav is on the cusp of taking a hat-trick again and another fifer. 26.6 : U Yadav to Holder, Outside off, left alone. TEA ON DAY 3, WINDIES LEAD BY 20!
What a session. The game has been turned upside down. When India were bowled out for a not-so-big lead, it seemed like the match was in parity. But...
Nothing went right for Windies in this session. They lost Brathwaite on the very second ball and kept losing wickets at regular intervals. There was a brief resistance, of 39, between Hope and Hetmyer but that was shut down too.
It would be an understatement if we mention India bowled well. They were astoundingly clinical. Hardly any loose balls and even if there were, it was more due to the bowlers trying hard for spin or swing. Umesh Yadav has already registered his best figures in a match and is all poised to take a 10-fer and consecutive fifers.
Game over today itself, then? The last batting pair is at the crease. The Windies will be hoping for some sort of a fight. Can they stretch the lead to around 100? Give something for their bowlers to bowl? Can they drag it to Monday? The answers will be made available from 1445 local (0915 GMT). 37 overs still left in the day, so plenty of time left for the match to finish.
... Day 3, Session 3 ...
We are back for what could probably be the last session of the game. Sunil Ambris and Jason Holder walk out to resume their innings. The Indians are out in a huddle and they now make their way to the middle. Kuldeep Yadav will start the proceedings for India in this session. Here we go...
27.1 : K Yadav to Ambris, He starts off with a tossed up ball on middle, it comes slow off the surface and Ambris goes onto the back foot and works it towards fine leg for the first runs of the session.
27.2 : K Yadav to Holder, Loopy ball again around off, Holder strokes it to mid off.
27.3 : K Yadav to Holder, Flatter on off, it comes back in. Holder goes back and flicks it through square leg for a run.
27.4 : K Yadav to Ambris, Slower through the air on middle, the batsman has a lot of time to watch what the ball is doing and work it to the man at square leg.
27.5 : K Yadav to Ambris, The googly, now due to the slow nature of the pitch and due to the slower pace Kuldeep bowls at, Ambris is able to pick it after it bounces. He lets it spin away and then guides it through third man for three.
27.6 : K Yadav to Holder, On the stumps, Holder works it to mid-wicket. A good start for the visitors after the break.
Umesh Yadav to bowl from the other end.
28.1 : U Yadav to Ambris, Full and around off, the batsman strokes it to mid on.
28.2 : U Yadav to S Ambris, Fullish and on off again, looking to tail the ball back in late. It does not though and the batter times it to mid off.
28.3 : U Yadav to Ambris, FOUR! Nicely played! There was width on offer outside off, Ambris waits for it and then guides it through gully, no one in the deep and the ball crosses the third man fence.
28.4 : U Yadav to Ambris, Good delivery! Yadav angles it into the batter which means Ambris has to play at it. He gets it to straighten after pitching and the ball whizzes past the outside edge.
28.5 : U Yadav to Ambris, The in-dipper this time around off, Ambris picks it early and flicks it through square leg for a brace.
28.6 : U Yadav to Ambris, Shortish and outside off, Ambris plays it through point and keeps strike. Another good over for the Windies. 7 from it.
A late review for a caught behind. There was not a loud appeal for it, Kohli though asks someone and then signals the 'T'. Could be a masterstroke if the decision is overturned. Ambris is the man in question.
29.1 : K Yadav to Ambris, NOT OUT! No bat involved and the sound was of the bat hitting the ground. India lose a review. Not sure why they took it as the bowler and the keeper weren't too excited. Kuldeep tosses it up very full outside off. Ambris tries to force it through the covers but misses. Pant takes it and there is a muted appeal but the umpire shakes his head. Kohli just in the nick of time, takes the review. Time for the replays and Snicko shows there was no willow on it.

29.3 : K Yadav to Holder, Defended off the front foot by the batsman presenting the full face of the bat.

29.5 : K Yadav to J Holder, Slightly quicker and on off, Holder pushes it to mid off.
29.6 : K Yadav to Holder, On the stumps, the batsman keeps it out. So runs are coming thick and fast for the Windies after the break.

30.4 : U Yadav to Ambris, Just ahead of a length around off, the batter plants his front foot forward and times it to mid off.
30.5 : U Yadav to Ambris, Close shave! The inside edge probably saved Ambris there. Another one of those full length inswingers. Ambris at the very end, gets an inside edge onto the pads and the ball rolls towards mid-wicket.
30.6 : U Yadav to Ambris, Shortens his length this time and it is blocked out.
31.1 : K Yadav to Holder, Floats it up on off, the batsman blocks it out.
31.2 : K Yadav to Holder, On middle, worked with the turn to mid-wicket.

32.4 : Yadav to Ambris, On the pads, Ambris tries to flick but misses to get hit on the pads. The players appeal but nothing from the umpire. Going down leg.
32.5 : U Yadav to Ambris, Good length on off, Ambris keeps it out.
32.6 : U Yadav to Ambris, Well played again! Lets the ball come to him and then play it to deep point for a single. The lead is now 50. They would need a lot more though.

35.2 : K Yadav to J Holder, On middle, Holder lunges and defends it onto the ground.
35.3 : K Yadav to J Holder, Gives it air on off, Holder eases it down to long off and takes one.
35.4 : K Yadav to Ambris, OHHHH! The googly around off, it pitches and turns away. Ambris plays inside the line and gets beaten. Pant behind the stumps fails to collect it.

Howzzat? Not out is the answer to that question. However, the Indians are very confident. Holder is the man in question.
36.6 : R Jadeja to Holder, OUT! Now we know why the Indians were so confident. There is a spike on Snicko and Holder is given his marching orders. Judicious use of the review by the Indians. Jadeja strikes as he gets his second. The partnership which was starting to build has been cut short. Ravindra bowls it flatter around off, it pitches and straightens a touch. Holder lunges and tries to defend but does not account for the turn. There is a sound as the ball passes the bat. Pant takes it and he

38.5 : R Jadeja to Ambris, OUT! Three reds and that is plumb! Jadeja gets two in two overs. One would wonder why wasn't he given the ball a lot more. He is just into his 8th over and has got three. This is flatter and slightly shorter around middle. Ambris misreads the length as he tries to pull. The ball sneaks underneath his bat and hits the front pad. The ball kisses the outside edge ang goes past the gloves of Rishabh Pant. Rahane at first slip, is quick to react as he dives to his left, gets a hand to it but the ball pops out. Now, just 72 runs remain for India to win this game and 16 overs left in the day. Clearly it's a matter of when and not if now. Fancy India to win this game today itself? Or will Windies somehow manage to drag this into Day 4? Maybe some quick wickets early on to shake the Indians up a bit? We'll see what happens. If the hosts get close to the set target, play can be extended by 30 minutes to allow them to finish it off on Day 3 only. Join us on the other side of the break for the final innings

A comprehensive victory for India. It's not a frequent occurrence when a team score in excess of 300 in the first innings and still manages to lose the match in 3 days. The Windies opted to bat after winning the toss and the top order failed to get going. But, once again, it was the middle and lower middle order which came to the rescue. Chase and Dowrich made a 50-stand, which was then followed by a century partnership between the former and skipper Holder. Roston Chase went on to score a fine
Windies eventually crossed the 300-mark, getting to a decent total, though it was certainly under what they would have wanted. Umesh Yadav was largely responsible for this as he ran riot with a 6-wicket haul and shook the visitors up. Kuldeep joined in with 3 of his own with Ashwin plucking 1.
In response, India were off to a flying start with Shaw making another brisk fifty. But once he fell, India faced a bit of a slump as a few wickets fell. Kohli and Rahane shored things up, before the massive 152-run stand evolved between Rahane and Pant. Though, they fell quite early today, after finishing Day 2 on a high. Ashwin then later came in and contributed some vital runs to give India a lead of 56 runs.
With the lead set, the hosts came out firing with the ball and knocked the Windies over inside 2 sessions. Umesh Yadav once again led the charge, while all the other around him contributed taking advantage of the conditions on offer. They reduced Windies to a position where they could only post a target of 72 in front of them, which Shaw and Rahul chased down before the end of Day 3. A commanding performance from the Indians, one which they will be proud of.
Ajinkya Rahane who is up for an interview, says it was a matter of one good partnership. Adds further Pant played really well and also controlled his aggression. Admits he wanted to bat long in this series. Mentions he wanted to create some strong habits in this series. Credits the way Yadav bowled and he feels the team performed really well.
Rishabh Pant who is besides Rahane, says it has been a good experience playing Test cricket, it is something he always wanted to do and he is enjoying it. Admits the team has helped him a lot along the course. States he does think about the 100 he missed out on and he looks to learn from the mistakes and not repeat it next time.
Now Ravi Shastri's turn to give an interview and he says there are a lot of positives, they weren't complacent throughout and they were looking to be clinical and the boys were. Appreciates Umesh Yadav's effort as they were a bowler down. Further adds he has grabbed his opportunity with both hands. States a 10-fer by a pacer in India has been done only a few times and Umesh by his performance has shown he belongs amongst the best. Reckons Shaw is born to play cricket and he looks a player who be
Windies skipper, Jason Holder, says he is disappointed with the batting in the second innings. Feels they put themselves in a really good position, just needed to push a little bit more. Credits the Indians for the way they played. Continues saying that the pacers did well and in hindsight playing Kemar Roach would have been a better option. Reckons there are some positives to take despite the loss, but just have to work on their weaknesses and improve. Feels he's personally in a good head space
Man of the Match, Umesh Yadav, wants to thank his teammates and support staff first up for helping him improve his game. Adds that he saw it (Shardul Thakur's injury) as an opportunity to get more wickets since he was the only pace bowler in the side and just gave it his all. On the Indian pace supply, mentions that competition is a good thing and everyone just tries their best for the team.
Man of the Series, Prithvi Shaw, says it feels great to score the winning runs for his country. Adds that it means a lot to win the Man of the Series Award in his very first Test series. On his teammates, he says all of them are quite entertaining on and off the field and it's good to have them around. Wants to just keep winning matches for the team and his dream is to win the World Cup for India.
Indian skipper, Virat Kohli, says he didn't expect Windies to put them under such pressure early in the day. States that they were quite clinical with the ball and the familiar conditions helped as his players stepped up. Mentions they deserved to win the Test. On the new players, he explains that they have grabbed the opportunities given to them which is pleasing to see. Singles out Umesh Yadav and praises his performance as he thinks it's a big effort to do that, especially on Indian condition
So, that is it from this game. Another convincing win for the hosts. They were expected to blow the Windies away and that is what they have done. However, it is not time for the teams to shift their attention to the one day format. The first ODI will take place on the 21st of October at 1400 local (2030 GMT). Till then, take care and goodbye!
