AUS 242/10 (49.3)
Match over
0.6 : 0.6: Pat Cummins to R Sharma, OUT! In the air... taken! Cummins' excellent first over ends with a wicket. However, this was probably the worst ball he bowled in this over. He won't care though as Australia strike early. This one is short and wide outside off, Rohit senses an opportunity to get off the mark, so he goes for the cut shot. There is extra bounce though on that one and hence, Rohit can't get on top of it. He gets a top edge which flies down to third man. Zampa there takes a few steps
1.1 : 1.1: N Coulter-Nile to S Dhawan, FOUR! Dhawan off the mark in style! First boundary of the game is off his bat. Easy pickings for him. It is full and on the pads, Dhawan flicks it. It is right off the middle and it races to the fence. This is should give him confidence after he was dismissed for not a lot in the last game.
3.2 : 3.2: N Coulter-Nile to V Kohli, FOUR! The on-drive, probably the hardest shot in the game and it is played to perfection here. Full and on off, Kohli shuffles across and then with a straight bat strokes it to mid on. A boundary, his first.
3.4 : 3.4: N Coulter-Nile to V Kohli, FOUR! A little too straight and NCN pays the price. Full and on middle, Kohli this time uses his wrists and works it through mid-wicket. No stopping those. Second boundary in the over.
4.3 : 4.3: Pat Cummins to S Dhawan, FOUR! Hammered away! Short and on middle, Dhawan is quickly onto the back foot and he pulls it hard through mid-wicket for a boundary. Raining boundaries here.
4.5 : 4.5: Pat Cummins to S Dhawan, FOUR! Dhawan is looking in great touch here! Just a little bit of width on offer outside off and that was enough for the opener. He goes back and then guides it through point, it races away to the fence.
5.4 : 5.4: N Coulter-Nile to S Dhawan, FOUR! Poor bowling this is! Down the leg side, Dhawan says thank you very much. He helps it on its way to the fine leg fence.
8.3 : 8.3: G Maxwell to S Dhawan, OUT! Three reds and Dhawan has to take the long walk back! What a review by Australia and Maxwell has struck gold here. He is absolutely elated. The offie has cut short the partnership which was looking very good and also brought the downfall of Dhawan who was timing the ball really well. Maxwell does what he has been doing till now. Fires it in on middle, Dhawan goes back to whip, he though misses and is hit on the front pad. An appeal follows, a loud one from the bo
14.2 : 14.2: G Maxwell to A Rayudu, FOUR! A much-needed boundary here! Maxwell is guilty of bowling it a little too full here. Rayudu plants his front foot ahead and across and then strokes it through covers for a boundary.
15.3 : 15.3: A Zampa to A Rayudu, FOUR! Help yourself says Zampa. Bowls a full toss. Rayudu goes back and pulls it over mid-wicket. No fielder in the deep and a boundary results.
16.3: N Lyon to V Kohli, FOUR! DEFT! Lovely shot this! Lyon tosses it up outside off, Kohli waits for it, sees the ball closely and then guides it through short third man. Runs starting to come thick and fast now.
16.6 : 16.6: N Lyon to A Rayudu, OUT! No bat there, it has pitched in line and it is crashing into the middle stump. A waste of a review to be honest by Rayudu as that looked out to the naked eye. He has to walk back and he takes India's only review along with him. Another bidding partnership comes to an end and Lyon makes an impact straightaway. Strikes off his last ball of his first over. Nothing great about the delivery though. It pitches around the leg pole and goes on with the angle. Rayudu plays
17.5 : 17.5: A Zampa to V Kohli, FOUR! Poor ball and put away! Short and on middle, very short actually. Kohli goes back and pulls it through square leg for a boundary.
17.6 : 17.6: A Zampa to V Kohli, FOUR! Back-to-back boundaries and this is way better than the last one! Overcompensates does Zampa as he lands it very full outside off. Kohli creams it through covers to end the over with a boundary. Another expensive one from Zampa as 10 comes from it.
20.1 : 20.1: N Coulter-Nile to V Shankar, FOUR! Was not so good in his first spell and he starts off with a poor ball here. Short and outside off, Shankar goes back and guides it through point. Welcomes back NCN into the attack with a boundary. 100 up for India.
23.2 : 23.2: N Lyon to V Shankar, FOUR! Tickled fine and a boundary! On the pads, Shankar flicks it very fine on the leg side and it races away to the fence.
24.1 : 24.1: N Coulter-Nile to V Shankar, FOUR! On the up! Length delivery, Shankar uses his wrists and then strokes it past mid on. A boundary.
26.4 : 26.4: M Stoinis to V Shankar, FOUR! What a shot! Best shot so far played by Shankar! Slightly short and on middle, Shankar goes back quickly and then lifts it over mid-wicket. No one in the deep so a boundary.
26.6 : 26.6: M Stoinis to V Shankar, SIX! A biggie to end the over! 14 from it! An expensive first by Stoinis! Another short delivery, too easy at his pace. Shankar stands tall and pulls it over the mid-wicket fence. He is into the 40s now.
27.1 : 27.1: N Lyon to V Kohli, FOUR! 18 from the last 7 balls! Flatter and just a little outside the off pole. Kohli waits for it and then uses the pace, guides it past short third man and into the fence.
28.1: A Zampa to V Shankar, FOUR! Straight as an arrow! He is playing a gem here. This is tossed up on middle, Shankar lunges forward and then hits it over the bowler's head for a boundary.
28.4 : 28.4: A Zampa to V Kohli, FOUR! Too full and it has been put away! Gives it a little more air but lands it very full. Kohli leans into it and strokes it through covers. It is away from the sweeper and a boundary.
28.5 : 28.5: A Zampa to V Kohli, OUT! Yes, the ball has flicked the finger tips and Shankar is short of his crease. He walks back in disappointment and disgust. He was playing so well out there, so fluent and his innings ends in a very unfortunate manner. Australia though will be relieved as this partnership was taking the game away from them. Zampa tosses this up, once again it is very full. Kohli smashes it towards the bowler who sticks his hand out to the right. The ball then goes onto hit the stump
32.1 : 32.1: A Zampa to K Jadhav, FOUR! Inside edge and a boundary! This is outside off, Jadhav looks to sweep but it takes the inside edge, goes between the legs of the keeper and into the third man fence.
32.2 : 32.2: A Zampa to K Jadhav, OUT! Zampa strikes! Australia have two in quick succession and India now have half their side back in the hut. The hero of the last game, fails to make an impact here. Adam floats it up outside off, once again it is very full. That though plays in the advantage of the bowler as the batsman looks to go over covers. He fails to get underneath the ball and hence, does not get the desired elevation. Ends up hitting it flat and hard towards cover where Finch takes a sharp c
32.3 : 32.3: A Zampa to MS Dhoni, OUT! Two-in-two for Zampa and the two batsmen who steered India home in the last game, are dismissed. Excellent captaincy as Finch brought in the slip fielder for the new batsman but you can also question the shot here. Zampa bowls it flatter and outside off, it pitches and turns away a little. Dhoni looks to guide it towards third man but there is not a lot of width on offer. The ball takes the outside edge and flies towards Khawaja at first slip. He too takes a sharp
37.3: Pat Cummins to V Kohli, FOUR! Not often do you see Kohli throwing his bat! This is one of those rare occasions. Short and outside off, the Indian skipper latches onto the width and gets it behind point for a boundary!
43.1 : 43.1: N Coulter-Nile to V Kohli, FOUR! Gets to his ton in style! Century no. 40. Magnificent ton this is from the Indian skipper. An innings of a lot of character and determination. A ton on wicket which has played a lot of tricks. Leading from the front is the skipper. He gets there with a cut shot. It races to the point fence. Takes his helmet off and soaks in the applause. He knows he needs to be there till the end. Also, now that he has got to his milestone, you might just see him up the ant
45.5 : 45.5: Pat Cummins to R Jadeja, OUT! Jadeja perishes in the attempt to up the ante! However, he has played a good supporting role here. So the dropped catch has not cost a lot. Cummins bowls the slower one and on off. The idea of the shot was not wrong as Jadeja looked to go over mid off. He got it off the bottom though. It lobs towards mid off and Khawaja there takes it after taking a few steps back. A handy 67-run stand for India comes to an end.
46.2 : 46.2: A Zampa to V Kohli, FOUR!!! Excellent shot. Tossed up delivery on middle and off, Kohli keeps his eyes on the ball and hits it through mid-wicket for a boundary.
47.1 : 47.1: Pat Cummins to V Kohli, OUT! Straight to the fielder! The best bowler for Australia today, gets the best batsman for India. Kohli can't believe it as he stands there, looks down and then turns and starts walking back. He returns dejected but to a standing ovation by the crowd here and he deserves it. Another brilliant innings from him. He falls prey to the short ball which he pulls nicely but does not get the desired distance. Stoinis at deep square leg takes a good sliding catch. Cummins
47.5 : 47.5: Pat Cummins to K Yadav, OUT! TIMBER! Four-fer for Cummins! The slower one has done in Kuldeep completely. It is on the leg stump, Yadav shuffles way too across and tries to flick but is quite early into the stroke. He misses and the ball hits the stumps behind.
48.2 : 48.2: N Coulter-Nile to J Bumrah, OUT!!! Bowled. Full length delivery around off, Bumrah looks to hit it on the off side but gets a thick inside edge and the ball hits the middle pole. Bumrah goes for a duck. INDIA ALL OUT FOR 250.
0.6 : 0.6: M Shami to U Khawaja, FOUR! A boundary to end! Australia have started the chase well here. Straying in line once again, on the pads, Khawaja flicks it fine on the leg side and bags the first boundary of this innings.
2.2 : 2.2: M Shami to A Finch, FOUR! This is a really good shot! First boundary for him and it is a brilliant shot. Not a lot wrong with that ball. It is on a length just outside off. Finch strokes it on the up and through covers. Boundary.
3.6 : 3.6: J Bumrah to A Finch, EDGY FOUR! On the off pole and once again it is on a length. Finch looks to stroke it on the up but it flies off the outside edge and past the first slip fielder for a boundary. The last ball spoils what was an excellent over till then.
5.2 : 5.2: J Bumrah to U Khawaja, FOUR! Lovely shot that is! The key here was he picks the length early, goes back and with one leg up, pulls it over the square leg fielder for a boundary.
7.2: J Bumrah to U Khawaja, FOUR! This time he finds the gap! Outside leg, Khawaja gets across and tickles it behind square leg. No chance for the man at fine leg.
8.2: R Jadeja to U Khawaja, FOUR! Takes the aerial route and gets the desired result. Jadeja gives it air but it is a little full. Khawaja goes down on one knee and with the turn, slog sweeps it over the mid-wicket fielder and for a boundary.
8.5 : 8.5: R Jadeja to A Finch, FOUR! Easy pickings! Down the leg side, Finch helps it on its way to the fine leg boundary. Second boundary in the over.
9.1 : 9.1: V Shankar to U Khawaja, FOUR! 50-run stand is up between the openers! Just the start they would have wanted. Also, they needed to score runs of the new ball on this slow wicket and they have done so. They are going at around 5 runs per over at the moment. Shankar starts off with a poor ball. Down the leg side, Khawaja flicks it to the fine leg fence.
9.3 : 9.3: V Shankar to A Finch, FOUR! Easy-peasy! A full toss on off, Finch just slams it back past the bowler and into the fence. Second boundary in the over.
9.5 : 9.5: V Shankar to A Finch, FOUR! Third boundary in the over! Shankar has already gone for 13 in the over and there is still a ball to go. Good length and outside off, Finch waits for it and guides it past short third man.
10.4 : 10.4: R Jadeja to U Khawaja, FOUR! Runs flowing now! Flatter and outside off, Khawaja looks to play it with an open face but it runs down off the edge and races to the third man fence.
11.1 : 11.1: K Yadav to A Finch, SIX! PLUNDERED! Where did that come from? 'He is watching the ball closely,' says Mitchell Johnson on air. Floated, around off, Finch gets down and slog sweeps it way over mid-wicket!
14.3 : 14.3: K Yadav to A Finch, OUT! The change of ends has done the trick for Kuldeep. He has provided exactly what India needed, the breakthrough. That was plumb in front. It was too full to sweep and Finch still goes for it. He misses, the ball turns back in and hits the front pad. An appeal follows and the umpire raises the finger. Finch walks upto his partner and has a chat but then opts not to review. He is dismissed after getting a start. Hawk Eye shows the ball to be clipping the top of off st
15.3: K Jadhav to U Khawaja, OUT! In the air... gone! One brings two and that is just the case for India here. The golden-arm, Jadhav strikes. Poor shot to be honest. This is bowled full and wide outside off. Khawaja walks across and looks to whip it across the line and against the turn. The ball takes the leading edge and goes straight into the hands of Kohli at extra cover. He takes it. The crowd here erupts and India are ecstatic. Both the set batsmen back in the hit. Two new batsmen now, Aus
20.5 : 20.5: M Shami to P Handscomb, FOUR! Not the best of timings but hit it in the right place! Very full and around middle, Handscomb gets his bat down in time and strokes it straight back past the bowler.
23.5: R Jadeja to S Marsh, OUT! Marsh has been caught down the leg side. Soft, soft way to get out. A lucky breakthrough for India, they though will take it with both hands as they needed to end this budding stand. Jadeja continues bowling a straighter line to the left-hander. This though is down the leg side. Marsh looks to flick, the ball goes off the face of the bat but not as fine as he wanted to. It goes straight into the gloves of Dhoni who takes it and appeals. The umpire quickly raises h
28.3 : 28.3: K Yadav to G Maxwell, OUT! TIMBER! Kuldeep Yadav has got the Big Show. The good passage of play has brought about the wicket India wanted. However, there is not a lot Maxwell could have done about that delivery. This was short and on middle, Maxwell goes back and looks to pull. The ball though does not bounce at all and it goes under the bat and hits the middle pole. India on top now. 119 more needed with 6 wickets in hand. 129 balls more left.
33.2 : 33.2: R Jadeja to P Handscomb, FOUR! PLUNDERED! A bit of a pressure-reliever. Full and around off, Handscomb gets down and sweeps it powerfully through square leg! 150 up for Australia, 101 more needed from 100 balls.
35.5 : 35.5: R Jadeja to P Handscomb, FOUR! Much, much-needed this! Finally connects with a sweep shot with a big stride forward. Hits it through square leg and the ball races away.
36.6 : 36.6: K Jadhav to M Stoinis, FOUR! Spoils what was a very good over till then! Jadhav slips in his bowling stride and hence, ends up bowling it too short. Stoinis makes room and then hits it hard through covers for a boundary. Another over of which 7 has been scored. 84 needed in 78.
37.2 : 37.2: M Shami to P Handscomb, FOUR! Chipped over mid-wicket. Very nice shot. Played it with the swing there. It came back in, Handscomb lifts it over mid-wicket. No one in the deep and a boundary results.
37.3 : 37.3: M Shami to P Handscomb, OUT! Handscomb is well short! The man who was playing so well, the batsman who Australia would have wanted to be there till the end is dismissed by a run out. The last thing that the visitors would have wanted. But let us give credit to the fielder there. That was exceptional stuff by Jadeja. He has a rocket arm and is lightning quick in the field and both those qualities were on display there. Peter guides this towards point and hesitates before taking off for a ru
38.1 : 38.1: K Jadhav to M Stoinis, FOUR! POUNDED! Into the gap. Short and outside off, Stoinis gives himself plenty of room to the leg side and cuts it through the covers for a boundary! Moves to 21 from 33 balls.
42.1: K Yadav to A Carey, FOUR! Excellent effort in the deep but his effort goes in vain. Brings about a important boundary for Australia. Should release some pressure here. Also, it is quite early in the over. They need to make this over count now. This is short and outside off, Carey latches onto it. He cuts it through point and the ball races away. Shankar in the deep makes good ground to his right, dives and looks to push it back but fails to do so.
42.3 : 42.3: K Yadav to A Carey, FOUR! Second boundary of the over! Is this the momentum shifting over? 8 from the first three. The slog sweep is out and he has nailed it. In the gap in the mid-wicket region and another boundary.
42.5 : 42.5: K Yadav to M Stoinis, SIX! Not the momentum shifting over but this over has probably turned the tide in the favor of the Aussies. Stoinis uses his feet, gets to the pitch of it and lofts it over the long on stands. 15 from the over so far with a ball to go.
44.1 : 44.1: K Yadav to M Stoinis, FOUR! 15 from the last over and boundary to begin this one. The quicker one, maybe he was expecting the batsman to step out. Stoinis does not and he easily cuts it through point. Uppishly but in the gap for a boundary. The run rate required is now below six.
44.3 : 44.3: K Yadav to A Carey, OUT! Bowled 'em!! India are still in this! But this partnership has probably taken Australia to the brink of victory. India though still won't let it loose as they are in the bowlers. Carey is done in, in flight here. It is given more air. Carey goes for the sweep but the ball goes under the bat and then hits the off pole behind.
45.2 : 45.2: J Bumrah to N Coulter-Nile, OUT! BOWLED! Indecision costs Coulter-Nile his wicket. He is probably expecting the yorker, hence is not sure whether to come forward or stay back. The ball is bowled on a length and NCN now looks to steer it to third man. But is late. It is a 142.6 kph ball and it skids off the deck. Double trouble. Kaboom! The LED bails illuminate.
45.4 : 45.4: J Bumrah to Pat Cummins, OUT! Caught behind! The ball has carried and Cummins is on his bike! This should be the end of the game. Perfect gamble from Kohli or perhaps he knew his cards well upfront. This Bumrah over has more or less sealed the deal for India. A lovely ball, on a length outside off, Cummins looks to defend but then the ball shapes away, taking the thinnest of outside edges. Dhoni takes it well above the ground and appeals but the umpire for some reason, is not sure whether
46.4: M Shami to M Stoinis, FOUR! Vital boundary! Shami offers just a little width outside off, Stoinis waits for it and cuts it late. It is past the fielder at point and into the fence. 22 needed in 20.
48.6 : 48.6: M Shami to N Lyon, FOUR! Lyon hits the boundary Australia needed! A poor delivery this from Shami. A full toss on the pads. NL looks to flick but it goes off the inner half, fine down the leg side and into the fence. Ideal end to what was a good over till then. 9 from it and 11 more needed in the last over.
49.1 : 49.1: V Shankar to M Stoinis, OUT! Umpire's call it is! Vijay has struck gold. That is probably the final nail in the coffin. Stoinis is given his marching orders and he takes Australia's hopes of chasing this down along with him. He bowls it on a length and it skids through. Stoinis looks to heave it on the leg side but misses. It hits him on the thigh pad. An appeal follows and the umpire raises his finger.
49.3 : 49.3: V Shankar to A Zampa, OUT! BOWLED! Perfect yorker and the stumps are rattled! India go 2-0 up with an 8-run win. A perfect delivery, right at the base of the stumps, Zampa backs away and attempts to hit it through the off side but misses. The ball goes beneath the bat and hits the timber!
