Match over
2.2 : 2.2: O Thomas to A Finch, OUT! EDGED AND TAKEN! Oshane Thomas bowls an absolute beauty to get rid of the Aussie skipper. He lands this on off and then gets it to straighten. Finch is squared up as he tries to defend. The ball kisses the outside edge and goes into the hands of the keeper. Early breakthrough for West Indies.
2.4 : 2.4: O Thomas to U Khawaja, FOUR! Nice shot. Full on middle, Khawaja pushes it through mid on for a boundary.
3.6 : 3.6: S Cottrell to D Warner, OUT! There goes another! Cottrell strikes this time. Brilliant, brilliant from the West Indies bowlers. They started off really badly but their second overs have been excellent. Both the openers back in the hut for Australia and they are in trouble here. It is on a length and outside off. Warner is guilty of going hard at it. He plays at the ball ahead of his body. It goes off the outer half and into the hands of point where Hetmyer takes a dolly.
4.6: O Thomas to U Khawaja, FOUR! Good shot. Thomas bowls a short ball on leg, Khawaja pulls it towards fine leg for a boundary.
6.6: A Russell to U Khawaja, OUT! WHAT A CATCH! We saw de Kock taking a blinder yesterday, today Shai Hope grabs one. Khawaja's uncomfortable stay out there comes to an end. He looks to break free by stepping out and thrashing the full ball through covers. The ball takes the outside edge and goes between first slip and the keeper. It is dying on Hope who dives to his left and takes it with one hand. Three down are Australia in Powerplay 1. The Windies are pumped. End of another successful over f
7.4 : 7.4: S Cottrell to G Maxwell, OUT! In the air... taken! Maxwell is bounced out! This is vintage pace bowling from the Windies bowler. Australia in dire straits at the moment. This is short and outside off, Maxwell is done in by the pace. He is late on the pull. The ball goes off the top edge to the left of the keeper who moves there and takes it.
9.2 : 9.2: C Brathwaite to M Stoinis, FOUR! Easy-peasy! A low full toss on middle, Stoinis shows the full face of the bat and drives it through mid on. Welcome boundary for Australia.
9.6 : 9.6: C Brathwaite to M Stoinis, FOUR! Nicely pulled! Second boundary in the over! Short and Brathwaite's pace won't trouble Stoinis. He goes back and pulls it behind square for a boundary. A good 10th for Australia but Powerplay 1 belongs to West Indies. The Aussies are 48 for 4.
10.1 : 10.1: A Russell to S Smith, FOUR! Another gift! Full toss, Smith just stands tall and pushes it through mid on and the ball races away to the fence. Australia dealing in boundaries now.
11.6 : 11.6: C Brathwaite to S Smith, FOUR! Trademark Smith! Slightly shorter and it is outside off, Smith waits for it and guides it through point for a boundary. So Australia have managed to score a boundary in each of the last three overs.
12.3 : 12.3: J Holder to M Stoinis, FOUR! In the air but away from the fielder! Slightly fuller and on off, Stoinis pushes at it with hard hands. It goes uppishly past the bowler, beats the diving mid off fielder. Brathwaite from mid on gives it a chase, he dives but his effort goes in vain.
12.4 : 12.4: J Holder to M Stoinis, FOUR! This is even better than the last one! Full and on middle, Stoinis with a straight bat hits it down to the long on fence. Consecutive boundaries.
15.6 : 15.6: C Brathwaite to S Smith, FOUR! That is just a mere push! Lovely! Back of a length and width on offer. Smith stands tall and pushes it through covers. It races away. Spoils a maiden.
16.1 : 16.1: J Holder to M Stoinis, OUT! The skipper strikes! Stoinis is making the long walk back at the wrong time for Australia. The partnership was going along so well. They just needed this to continue. Another short one and on middle, Marcus looks to pull but gets it off the higher portion of the bat. It goes straight to Pooran at mid-wicket who takes a dolly. West Indies continue to be on top.
22.3 : 22.3: O Thomas to A Carey, FOUR! Well controlled! Welcome boundary for Australia. Shortish and on off, Carey arches and guides it over the gully fielder for a boundary to the third man fence.
22.5 : 22.5: O Thomas to A Carey, FOUR! Second boundary for Carey! A slight misfield one can say! Full and on off, Carey hits it firmly towards mid off where the fielder dives but lets it through.
23.2 : 23.2: S Cottrell to A Carey, FOUR! Up and over! Short and outside off, it was asking to be hit! Carey slaps it over point and it races away to the fence. That first boundary might have broken the shackles for Carey. 100 up for Australia.
23.3 : 23.3: S Cottrell to A Carey, FOUR! Consecutive boundaries for Carey once again! Sheldon bowls it short and wide again outside off, Carey says thank you very much as he cuts it over point for a boundary.
23.6 : 23.6: S Cottrell to A Carey, FOUR! Off the front foot this time! 5th boundary for Carey in the space of 9 balls. He has made up for all the dots at the start of his innings. Full and on off, Carey caresses it through covers. 24 from the last two overs. Has the momentum shifted?
24.1 : 24.1: J Holder to S Smith, FOUR! Fortunate, fortunate boundary for Smith. He could have been easily making the long walk back. Cottrell slipped just at the right time for Australia. Holder bowls this short and on middle, this one gets big on Smith. He looks to pull but the ball goes off the top edge towards fine leg. Sheldon there runs to his left, then realizes he has to come forward, in the attempt to do so, he slips, the ball lands in front of him, beats him and goes into the fence.
26.3 : 26.3: J Holder to A Carey, FOUR! Creamed! Scoring in boundaries is Carey here. His 6th boundary in the 31 he has scored. Full and on off, Carey leans into it and strokes it through covers for a boundary.
27.2 : 27.2: A Nurse to A Carey, FOUR! Well stroked! Nurse delivers a full ball around off, from 'round the wicket, Carey brings out the reverse sweep without waiting any time and nails it behind point for a boundary.
30.4 : 30.4: A Russell to A Carey, OUT! Russell breaks the 68-run partnership. Excellent bowling change by Jason Holder. A wicket almost immediately after the Drinks break and we have seen that happen many times in the past. Not sure though if Carey needed to play at that. It is on a length and outside off, moves away further with the angle. Carey hangs his bat out without any purpose. The ball kisses the outside edge and goes into the mitts of the keeper. A good innings by Carey comes to an end. He wi
33.2 : 33.2: O Thomas to N Coulter-Nile, FOUR! Nathan Coulter-Nile has managed to squeeze that for a boundary! Full and on middle, NCN jams it straight down the ground. The outfield is such that the ball has raced away.
33.5 : 33.5: O Thomas to N Coulter-Nile, FOUR! In the air... but just wide! Pooran probably misjudged it. Down the leg side and it is full. NCN flicks it in the air towards deep backward square leg. Pooran initially runs in first but then realizes he has to run to his right. He moves to that direction but till then, it is too late as the ball is out of reach and it races to the fence.
34.3 : 34.3: A Russell to N Coulter-Nile, FOUR! Top edge and it goes too fine! Short and on the body, Nathan looks to pull but is in no control. He still goes for the pull but it hits the top edge and bounces once before the fine leg fence.
35.4 : 35.4: S Cottrell to S Smith, FOUR! Poor effort in the field helps Smith get to his half ton. His 20th in ODIs. A very hard-working knock by him. He holds the key for his side here. Needs to stay there till the end if Australia are to get to a good score. length and outside off, Smith looks to cut but it goes off the bottom half towards third man. Russell runs to his left, does not get down in time and the ball sneaks through.
36.4: A Russell to N Coulter-Nile, FOUR! Not in control but gets the desired result. Short and on the body, Coutler-Nile looks to pull but does not get it off the middle. It is in the gap and hence, a boundary.
38.4: A Russell to N Coulter-Nile, SIX! The pick up shot and it goes all the way! Consecutive fifty-run stands for Australia. Another very important one but they would hope for this one to continue. Full and on the pads, NCN whips it and it carries over the square leg fence. 200 up for Australia.
40.2 : 40.2: C Brathwaite to N Coulter-Nile, FOUR! Nicely timed! Yes, it is a gift but it has to be put away. A full toss on the pads, NCN flicks it over mid-wicket and bags a boundary.
42.2: C Brathwaite to S Smith, FOUR! Edgy but effective for Australia. Width on offer outside off, Smith goes chasing after it but fails to middle his shot. It gathers the outside edge and runs down to third man for a run.
42.5 : 42.5: C Brathwaite to N Coulter-Nile, SIX! Coulter-Nile is growing in confidence. Brathwaite delivers one in the slot for the batsman, Nathan lines up the bowler and thumps it over long on for a biggie. Australia are on the charge!
43.1 : 43.1: A Nurse to N Coulter-Nile, FOUR! Cheeky, very cheeky! Moves right across and Nurse fires it on the stump. NCN uses the pace and paddles it fine on the leg side for a boundary. Ideal start to the over.
44.1: O Thomas to S Smith, FOUR! Brilliant start to this over as well! Full and on off, Smith lofts it over mid off for a boundary. Pressure on the bowler now. Brings up the 100-run stand too between the two. They have given Australia a real chance to score above 300.
44.2 : 44.2: O Thomas to S Smith, OUT! HO, HO, HO! What a catch that is! Probably the catch of the tournament! Cottrell, you beauty! Something special was needed to break this stand and take Smith's wicket and Sheldon has provided it. Smith can't believe it. He might have thought, he has hit that for a biggie. He moves right across and whips it towards the backward square leg fence. SC there runs to his left, stretches one hand out, the ball sticks. He then realizes the momentum is taking him over the
45.3 : 45.3: S Cottrell to N Coulter-Nile, SIX! That has gone all the way! Flat one! What a shot! Shortish and on middle, Coulter-Nile goes back and smashes it right off the middle. It is traveling. Brathwaite runs to his left, dives full stretch to his left but the ball evades his hand and seems to have gone over the ropes. The umpire goes upstairs to check and after a few replays, they show it is a biggie.
45.4 : 45.4: S Cottrell to N Coulter-Nile, SIX! Back-to-back maximums! This is longer than the last one. Full and it is the slower one. NCN lofts it over the long on fence and clears it by ease.
46.1 : 46.1: C Brathwaite to Pat Cummins, OUT! Once again the bowling change does the trick! Short and on middle, Cummins swings hard but across the line. The ball takes the top edge. Goes high up in the air towards deep square leg. Sheldon Cottrell this time takes an easier catch.
46.2 : 46.2: C Brathwaite to N Coulter-Nile, FOUR! What a shot this is! Full and outside off, Coulter-Nile goes down on one knee and loft it over covers for a boundary. He is 16 short of a ton now.
46.3 : 46.3: C Brathwaite to N Coulter-Nile, FOUR! Make that 12! Back-to-back boundaries! The bowlers are just not sure where to bowl to him. Brathwaite bangs it short and it is the slower one. NCN picks it and pulls it through the gap in the mid-wicket region for a boundary.
48.2 : 48.2: C Brathwaite to N Coulter-Nile, OUT! Nathan Coulter-Nile holes out! End of an outstanding knock from him. The whole crowd is on its feet and so are the players in the balcony. A well-deserved standing ovation. His innings has taken Australia to a total which is more than defendable. Brathwaite bowls this full and outside off, Coulter-Nile looks to go downtown but does not get it off the middle. It goes high up in the air towards wide long off where Holder takes it.
48.4 : 48.4: C Brathwaite to M Starc, FOUR! Hammered! This time he connects with the short ball and nails it through mid-wicket for a boundary.
48.6 : 48.6: C Brathwaite to M Starc, OUT! That is the end of the Australian innings! Brathwaite gets the last wicket, second in the over and third overall. Bowls this one full and on middle, Star looks to clear the long on fence but does not get the desired distance. Holder there runs to his left and takes a good catch. AUSTRALIA BOWLED OUT ON 288!
1.4 : 1.4: Pat Cummins to E Lewis, OUT! Edged and taken! Cummins draws first blood! He persists with a good line here. Lands it on a length and outside off, going away with the angle, Lewis with a stationary footwork pushes inside the line and gets a thick outside edge behind to second slip. Smith reacts quickly to his right and snaps it safely. That's the line you should be bowling on this pitch. Pat has wasted no time in finding it, unlike Starc and has reaped the rewards almost immediately.
2.4: M Starc to C Gayle, SNORTER! Gayle survives here. Starc smiles again. It's all happening here. Effort delivery by Mitch. He bends his back and lets out a 141 kph shorter delivery on off. Gayle is taken aback by the extra bounce there. Tries fending it off but it takes his gloves and flies over the leaping keeper for a boundary. Lucky, very lucky for the big man!
3.3 : 3.3: Pat Cummins to C Gayle, FOUR! Gayle has decided to pack a punch. He gets some width outside off and powers it over mid off for a boundary.
3.4 : 3.4: Pat Cummins to C Gayle, FOUR! Thumped! Gayle is on the attack here. Cummins digs it short but it sits up nicely for the batsman, Gayle stands back and muscles his pull in front of square leg.
3.6 : 3.6: Pat Cummins to C Gayle, FOUR! Boom! Back of a length ball on off, Gayle rocks back, goes deep inside the crease and pummels it to the deep mid-wicket fence. 15 from the over!
4.5 : 4.5: M Starc to C Gayle, OUT! It's clipping leg! Umpire's call stays. Chris Gaffaney is right this time but this decision could have gone either way. Gayle returns and the crowd is not too happy. They wanted the big man to stay and light up the stadium with some big shots. This one is a slower delivery. Although it's 138 kph, it's still 14 kph slower than the previous one. Starc dishes it on a on fuller length around middle and it skids back in with the angle. Gayle tries his best to put bat on
6.1 : 6.1: M Starc to N Pooran, FOUR! Good shot! Pooran showed his class in the previous game and will look to do better against Australia, the defending champions. Starc hits the 90 mph mark again but it's a shade too full outside off. Pooran confidently drives it through covers.
6.3 : 6.3: M Starc to N Pooran, FOUR! A bit lucky for the batsman. Starc eyes a yorker, spears it in too as well at 150 kph but it lands just a little ahead of the blockhole. Pooran flicks it off the inside half and it speeds past the right side of the square leg fielder for a boundary.
7.5 : 7.5: N Coulter-Nile to N Pooran, FOUR! Connects and connects well this time! Coulter-Nile goes short and on middle, Pooran stays back and pulls it powerfully over mid-wicket for a boundary.
7.6 : 7.6: N Coulter-Nile to N Pooran, FOUR! 9 from NCN's first over. Identical to the last delivery, it's a gentle half-tracker and Pooran just smashes it from his presence to the deep mid-wicket fence.
11.2 : 11.2: G Maxwell to N Pooran, FOUR! Bad ball and punished! Short in length around off, Pooran camps back and whacks it through backward point. It's towards the shortest part of the ground and races away. Zampa tries his best in the deep to cut it off but fails in his attempt.
16.2: M Stoinis to N Pooran, SIX! 50-run stand comes up off 69 balls. Stoinis bowls a short delivery around middle, Pooran pulls it across the line. He is not entirely in control as it flies off the top half but it still has enough to scale the distance at fine leg. Drops flush on the ropes and a maximum is signalled.
17.5 : 17.5: A Zampa to S Hope, FOUR! This will ease all the pressure! Zampa drops it short and around off, Shai immediately jumps on the back foot and smacks it to the deep cover fence. Once it beat the fielder inside the ring, it was always a boundary.
18.6 : 18.6: M Stoinis to S Hope, FOUR! This one rocketed off Shai's bat! Short in length and on middle, Hope turns inside the crease and connects superbly to send it to the deep backward square leg boundary.
19.1 : 19.1: A Zampa to N Pooran, OUT! Zampa provides the breakthrough! It's caught brilliantly with one hand by the skipper, Aaron Finch. A flighted full ball around off, Pooran tries to go inside-out over extra cover but ends up slicing it off the outside half to point. Finch there does well to react as he moves back and jumps to catch it one hand. The timing of jump was very vital there. The 68-run stand is broken. 190 needed off 185 balls.
22.3 : 22.3: M Starc to S Hetmyer, FOUR! Well pulled by Shimron Hetmyer! Starc delivers it short, Hetmyer fetches it from outside off and pulls it disdainfully to the deep mid-wicket fence.
23.2 : 23.2: A Zampa to S Hope, FOUR! Easy pickings! A full toss outside off, Shai sits down on one knee and sweetly sweeps it behind square leg for a boundary. Poor from Adam!
23.5 : 23.5: A Zampa to S Hope, FOUR! Aerial but safe! Short in length and on middle, Shai goes deep inside the crease and pulls it aerially past the left side of Maxwell at mid-wicket. It screams away towards the fence and Coulter-Nile tries to stop it with a dive. But it goes under his right hand to meet the fence.
24.5: N Coulter-Nile to S Hetmyer, FOUR! Bang! A rising delivery again, around middle, Hetmyer rides the bounce and powers his pull shot to the deep mid-wicket fence.
25.6 : 25.6: A Zampa to S Hetmyer, FOUR! This one is dismissed! Zampa is very full this time, on middle and Hetmyer kneels to bludgeon it behind square leg. The length was too full there which didn't allow the ball to spin. Well played by Shimron also. 151 needed more off 144 balls as this partnership moves to 39!
26.2 : 26.2: N Coulter-Nile to S Hope, FOUR! Easy pickings! Good length delivery sliding down the leg side, Shai neatly deflects it down to fine leg for a boundary. Poor line there by NCN!
26.3 : 26.3: N Coulter-Nile to S Hope, FOUR! Wow, this is just delightful! Coulter-Nile delivers it on a length outside off, Hope drives it on the up and crunches it through covers. That's a great cricket shot.
27.2 : 27.2: G Maxwell to S Hope, OUT! Terrible mix-up and Shimron Hetmyer is run out. Disappointment writ large on the young man's face. He was beginning to bat well but has to return now. A flatter and shorter delivery outside off, Hope gets back and punches it wide of mid off. He sets off for a run but then stops seeing the fielder rush across to the ball. Hetmyer though has come down a long way and is to the point of no return. Cummins immediately releases the ball to Maxwell who breaks the stumps
28.1 : 28.1: A Zampa to J Holder, FOUR! Poor length to begin the over. Short and wide outside off, Holder goes back and slaps it wide of short third man for a boundary.
30.2 : 30.2: Pat Cummins to J Holder, FOUR! Oh my word! That is just a short-arm jab! It is fractionally short, around off and Holder just pull-whips it over mid-wicket! One bounce and into the fence.
32.5 : 32.5: Pat Cummins to S Hope, FOUR! Top effort by Nathan Lyon (sub) but to no avail. Short delivery on middle and leg, Shai shuffles across and gets a good amount of his bat behind his pull shot. It speeds down to fine leg where Lyon tries to stop it with a dive. He does so initially but then the ball rolls over to the fence.
33.1 : 33.1: G Maxwell to J Holder, EDGY FOUR! Flatter delivery, shorter in length and around off, Holder goes back to punch but it takes the outside edge and speeds past short third man for a boundary.
33.2 : 33.2: G Maxwell to J Holder, FOUR! Gorgeous! Loopy and full outside off, Holder gets forward with his giant stride and thumps his cover drive for a boundary.
34.6 : 34.6: Pat Cummins to S Hope, OUT! A much-needed breakthrough for Australia! Shai Hope has thrown it away. A soft dismissal really and Shai has his head down in disappointment. Cummins slants in a fuller length ball on middle, Shai leans forward and across to play the flick shot through mid-wicket but ends up mistiming it straight into the hands of Usman Khawaja at mid on. He takes a sitter and the Aussies get an opening. 99 needed off 90 balls.
36.4 : 36.4: M Starc to J Holder, SIX! Big top edge and it has gone all the way! Starc bangs in a short ball on middle and leg, Holder takes the challenge to pull it across the line but fails to middle his shot. It flies off the top edge and clears fine leg with ease.
37.2 : 37.2: A Zampa to A Russell, SIX! Russell has sent this out of the stadium! This is what the crowd has come to watch! Zampa delivers a full ball around off, Andre latches onto it and launches it over long on. Onto the roof and out of the park. 1000 ODI runs for Andre Russell as well.
37.4 : 37.4: A Zampa to A Russell, FOUR! Russell goes again, this time straight over the bowler's head and it's a one bounce boundary. Flatter and fuller on middle, Andre clears his front leg and clobbers it down the ground. It falls just before the fence and the umpire after getting confirmation from the third umpire, signals four.
38.4: M Starc to A Russell, FOUR! Starc overpitches around off, Russell goes hard at it and spanks it down the ground through mid off for a cracking boundary.
38.5 : 38.5: M Starc to A Russell, OUT! Where is the ball? Where is the ball? It is Maxi who has quietened all! The entire stadium has been silenced. Dre Russ has come. Dre Russ has gone. The game opens up again. This is the way he plays - if it comes off, it is great. Else, it looks bad. One might argue there was no need for this. But on the flip side, with the off side up, Russell thought I will go over the off side. Starc smartly changed the pace, bowled a slower one but Russell was already through
39.5: N Coulter-Nile to J Holder, FOUR! Gets one on the middle of the bat and sends it over mid-wicket. A length ball has been angled into him around off, Holder swings his bat and fetches a boundary for himself.
40.2 : 40.2: A Zampa to J Holder, FOUR! Nicely driven! Full and outside off, Holder leans and drives it through the covers!
40.5 : 40.5: A Zampa to J Holder, EDGED, FOUR! Second boundary of the over. Outside off, Holder looks to punch but the ball runs off the outside edge, past short third man and into the boundary!
43.5: N Coulter-Nile to C Brathwaite, SIX! This one has disappeared. NCN digs in a short ball outside off, Holder pounces onto it and unveils a powerful pull shot to send it packing over mid-wicket, ten rows back in the crowd.
44.1 : 44.1: Pat Cummins to C Brathwaite, FOUR! A boundary from the bat of Carlos Brathwaite! Finally, he connects with one. Shortish and on off, Carlos throws all his power behind it and flat-bats it over the bowler's head for a boundary down to long off.
45.3 : 45.3: M Starc to C Brathwaite, OUT! Brathwaite holes out! Starc outsmarts the big guy with a slower one. Looks for a yorker but it turns out to be a low full toss on middle. Carlos though has not picked the variation in pace and is early into the swing of his bat. It catches the toe end and flies straight down to Finch at long on who makes no mistake. The Aussies won't go down without a fight. 37 needed off 27 balls.
45.6 : 45.6: M Starc to J Holder, OUT! Starc, you beast! Two wickets in the over and this match has completely turned in the favour of the Aussies. He hurls in a short delivery around the rib cage, Holder stands tall to pull but the bounce gets big on him and he ends up gloving it towards short fine leg. Adam Zampa takes an easy catch and this is wicket number 150 in ODIs for Mitch - fastest to reach this mark. Meanwhile, a disappointed Holder walks back leaving his team in sinking.
47.3 : 47.3: M Starc to S Cottrell, OUT! Stumps are shattered! Starc gets his 6th ODI fifer and is all pumped up. What an impact bowler he is when he gets it right! Cottrell exposes all his stumps even before the bowler has delivered. Starc keeps it in line at 143 kph, Sheldon swings and misses to find his stumps rattled. No Sheldon, you cannot do that against this bowler.
49.3: N Coulter-Nile to A Nurse, FOUR! Too little too late. Short and on middle, pulled behind square leg and it raced away to the fence.
49.4 : 49.4: N Coulter-Nile to A Nurse, FOUR! Fuller in length and outside off, Nurse drives this time and finds the gap at covers for a good-looking boundary.
49.5 : 49.5: N Coulter-Nile to A Nurse, FOUR! Hat-trick of boundaries! Nurse is doing well in a losing cause here. Short and down the leg side, Nurse turns and pulls it past the diving short fine leg fielder for a boundary.
49.6 : 49.6: N Coulter-Nile to A Nurse, FOUR! Make it four in a row but still that won't do for the Windies. AUSTRALIA WIN BY 15 RUNS! A pitched up delivery outside off, Ashley Nurse gets on the front foot and strokes it through the gap between mid off and extra cover for a boundary. 16 from the over but they needed 32. Well tried in the end but Australia are the deserving winners.
