Australia vs India Live Commentary, 1st Test, Border-Gavaskar Trophy, 2020/21, December 17, 2020

IND 244/10 (93.1) , 36/10 (21.2)
Australia beat India by 8 wickets
AUS 191/10 (72.1) , 93/2 (21)
Match over
0.0 : Talking about the Aussies, Steven Smith's availability after having a sore back was a cause of concern but it seems that he will be fit to take part in the first test. It also looks like Cameron Green will make his Test debut for the hosts. They will certainly miss the services of David Warner who had been ruled out of the encounter due to an injury. Their attack with the ball seems to be in sync as their gun bowlers will all be rearing to have a go at this Indian batting line-up. A win to start
After being even-stevens at the end of the white ball leg, the bandwagon now moves to the Test series. After the white ball, now it's time for the pink ball. Though, Australia hold the upper hand with the pink kookaburra as they have won 7 out of 7 games compared to their counter-parts who have just played 1 game under the lights, it still looks to be an interesting contest that will unfold.
India, on the other hand, are confident as they have announced their playing XI ahead of the match day. Inclusion of Prithvi Shaw and Wriddhiman Saha ahead of Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant has raised a lot of eyebrows.  The other cause of concern is that Virat Kohli's absence after the first game could prove to be vital in the grand scheme of the series and so, India would hope to take the early advantage with their skipper's presence. The biggest question that arises is who will break the ice
TOSS - The men who matter, Tim Paine and Virat Kohli are out in the middle for the all important toss. Up goes the coin and it lands in the favour of Virat Kohli. INDIA WILL BAT FIRST!
Pitch Report - Glenn McGrath says that there is enough grass on the surface and with the weather expected to be hot, it is a win the toss and bat first wicket. Sanjay Manjrekar says that how the pitch behaves in the first 30 mins is crucial and he says that there is no doubt about it, win the toss and bat first.
Australian skipper, Tim Paine says that Cameron Green gets his debut and Matthew Wade will open with Joe Burns. He says that there have been a few injury concerns but they are well set. Mentions that they would have batted first but with a quality attack who can perform in all conditions, their bowlers are ready to go out and perform.
The skipper of India, Virat Kohli starts by saying that it looks like a nice wicket and runs on the board is priceless, more so away from home. Hopes that he can apply some pressure on them. Adds that they have prepared really well and the boys have also played a couple of tour games and things have been clear at their end. Feels that playing in the pink test the first time back in India, was not that strangle and adds that the evening session will be slightly harder since it is a pink ball t

The start for India was not what they would have wanted but they did well to steady the ship after the blow early on. After Shaw fell, it was the duo of Agarwal and Pujara who played slow but kept battling it out against a good bowling show by the Aussies. Agarwal also was sent back and in came Kohli and now it is India's two best batters, Pujara and Kohli out there. India will hope that they stay out there for a longer time. It has been a very interesting session and it looks like the second se
We have witnessed a very well measured first session of play from both the teams. Australia were on the front foot at the start but then the Indian batting did well to claw back into the game, albeit slowly. Although, Australia would be the happier side at the end of the first session of play.
Australia were right on the money, from the very first ball. Starc got rid of Shaw right on the 2nd ball of the day and India were already on the back foot right at the start. They were bowling on the right lines and lengths and have been very disciplined with the pink ball in hand. Cummins bowled a beauty to send Agarwal back to the shed. The hosts have done really well and will look to continue the same in the upcoming sessions.

0.0 : Welcome back for the second session of Day 1 of the Pink Ball Test. The two unbeaten Indian batsmen, Cheteshwar Pujara and Indian skipper, Virat Kohli walk out to the middle. The Australian players too have taken their field. India would look to up the scoring in this session while Australia would look to send these two batting mainstays early to gain the upper hand. Who will take this session? Let's find out as Josh Hazlewood to start the first over after dinner.
26.1 : Pat Cummins to Virat Kohli, Good stop at third slip. A length ball just outside off, Kohli comes on the front foot and looks to defend with soft hands. Kohli ends up getting a thick outside edge. Labuschagne at third slip does really well to dive to his right and stop the ball.
26.2 : Pat Cummins to Virat Kohli, Just short! Lovely stuff from Cummins and he almost got the better of the Indian skipper there. A length ball around off and middle, Kohli looks to work it on the leg side but ends up getting an inside edge on the pad. The ball lobs just ahead of the forward short leg fielder. The fielder there dives forward and tries to catch but fails to get his fingers under the ball. Heart in the mouth moment for the Indian skipper there.
26.3 : Pat Cummins to Virat Kohli, Outside off, Kohli this time lets it be.

Just when it looked like India will go into the break unscathed, Lyon produced a wicket out of nowhere to send India's number 3 batsman back into the hut. Australia, on the other hand, too have not let the Indian batters off the hook as they have made the batsmen work hard for every run and their this perseverance paid off in the form of Pujara's wicket.
With the lights and the new ball coming up it could be a tricky passage of play. How will things turn out with Kohli and his deputy out in the middle. India would hope for another partnership and a big one though. While the Aussies would look to take wickets and that too quickly to gain the upper hand. Can Rahane and Kohli deliver for India? Or will Australia rule the roost? All the answers coming up on the other side of the break.
An absorbing session of play comes to an end. India would be happy with the effort of both Pujara and Kohli as they both have done well to weather the storm. It never looked that India would stage a fightback after what transpired on the second ball of the game when Shaw saw his castle rattled but all applause to India's skipper and Pujara though. An even session of play by the looks of things.

86.4 : Josh Hazlewood to Ravichandran Ashwin, Fine shot! Positive stuff form Ashwin here! He moves to 11 off 11 with this three. A fuller ball around off, he strokes it through mid on. The fielder gives it a chase and manages to save one as the batters run three.
86.5 : Josh Hazlewood to Wriddhiman Saha, NO BALL! Saha gets one full and outside off, he squeezes it through the gap at gully and point. Two taken. And Hazlewood has overstepped as well so three to India.
Josh Hazlewood to Wriddhiman Saha, Good length and around off, dabbed on the off side.
86.6 : Josh Hazlewood to Wriddhiman Saha, Awkard bounce there? A length delivery around off, jumps a bit extra as Saha defends it by taking one hand off the handle of the bat.

88.2 : Josh Hazlewood to Wriddhiman Saha, Tight leave from Saha! He is trusting the bounce on the surface. This one is pitched short though and it is outside off. It jags back in sharply and goes over the middle stump as Saha allows it to go to the keeper.
88.3 : Josh Hazlewood to Wriddhiman Saha, Around off on a length, blocked.
88.4 : Josh Hazlewood to Wriddhiman Saha, FOUR! Fine shot! He gets width outside off and doesn't want to miss out on a scoring opportunity. Gets on his front foot and drives it through the cover region to find the fence.

After opting to bat, India had the worst of the starts that they could have imagined as they lost Prithvi Shaw on the second ball of the game. Then came a small stand between Agarwal and Pujara. Just when Agarwal looked settled in for a big knock, Cummins sends him back. Then came a revival stand between Pujara and Kohli. The duo weathered the storm as they stitched 68 runs but just at the stroke of Tea, Pujara was sent packing and Kohli continued as he brought his fifty later.
The Indian skipper along with his deputy kept of the ship afloat with a 88 run stand but then came the biggest mixup of the day and Kohli took a long walk back getting run out. With the second new ball coming into play, Neither Rahane nor Vihari lasted long as they both departed in quick succession. In the end, India would feel that they have thrown away the advantage here by losing quick wickets nearing the end of the day's play.
An enthralling and engrossing day ends. All the talk of the pink ball Test between India and Australia lives up to the hype. Good competition between bat and ball. Australia would feel lucky to have edged slightly ahead of India by sending their skipper and his deputy back in the hut towards the end of the day.
For the Aussies, Mitchell Starc started the game with a bang as he bagged a wicket on the second ball of the game. Cummins and Hazlewood played a perfect foil to Starc as they kept their lines tight. So did the debutant, Cameron Green who also bowled brilliantly but still waits for his debut Test wicket. Nathan Lyon was the one on whom all the eyes were glued and he did not disappoint as he had a wicket to his name, that too of Cheteshwar Pujara. Overall, they would be pleased but would somew
So that ends Day 1 as India finish it with six wickets down. Just four wickets in the bag, how many more runs can they add? Australia, on the other hand, would look to wrap it up as quickly as possible in the first session of Day 2. Do join us for Day 2 of the First Test at 1430 local (0400 GMT). Till then, cheers and take care.
... DAY 2, SESSION 1 ...
After a competitive Day 1, we are back for Day 2 as both India and Australia fight it out in the middle. Talking about the visitors, with just 4 wickets in hand and the score just 233, India would want Wriddhiman Saha and Ravichandran Ashwin to play it deep and long here. They would look to get close to the 300-run mark to make a match out of it.
Australia, on the other hand, would look to wrap the Indian innings as quickly as possible with minimal damage in terms of score and then try and bat it out as long as possible to wipe out the deficit quickly and then get a sizeable lead. How the game will pan out, we will get to know in a short while.
We are all set for resumption on Day 2 as the two overnight batsmen for India, Ravichandran Ashwin and Wriddhiman Saha make their way out to the middle. They are followed by the Aussies who are also in readiness as they take their respective fielding positions. Pat Cummins will speed in for the hosts. 19-7-42-1 are his figures so far. Here we go...
89.1 : Pat Cummins to Ravichandran Ashwin, Ohh! Cummins welcomes Ashwin with a Bumper! Short and around off, Ashwin does well to sway away from the line as he frops his wrists in the process.
89.2 : Pat Cummins to Ravichandran Ashwin, Back of a length ball around off, Ashwin stands on the back foot and pushes it to point.
89.3 : Pat Cummins to Ravichandran Ashwin, OUT! CAUGHT! Cummins strikes early on day 2! Does well here as he pitches it full and in that channel around off, Ashwin walks a bit down the track and looks to push it but the ball just shapes away a hint to catch the outside edge of Ashwin's bat. It flies towards Tim Paine and he does the rest.
Who walks in now? Umesh Yadav, it is.
89.4 : Pat Cummins to Umesh Yadav, Short of good length and around off, Yadav looks to poke at it but the ball rares from good length and goes past the outside edge.
89.5 : Pat Cummins to Umesh Yadav, Another length ball that rises outside off, Yadav pushes it towards point.
89.6 : Pat Cummins to Umesh Yadav, Full and on middle, Umesh squeezes it towards cover-point for a run. A good over from Cummins comes to an end.
90.1 : Mitchell Starc to Umesh Yadav,  Fuller and around off, Yadav strokes it back to the bowler off the inner half of the bat.
0.0 : Who will partner Cummins from the other end? It will be Mitchell Starc. 19-4-49-2 are his figures so far.
90.3 : Who walks in for the visitors now? It is Jasprit Bumrah who walks in with his blade in hand.
90.2 : Mitchell Starc to Umesh Yadav, On a length and around leg, Umesh tucks it towards square leg for a single.
91.4 : Pat Cummins to Umesh Yadav, Bouncer over middle, Yadav sits under this one.
91.5 : Pat Cummins to Umesh Yadav, SWING AND A MISS! Yadav is going for the big strokes! Back of a length ball on off and middle, Yadav swings his blade across the line but misses it completely.
90.3 : Mitchell Starc to Wriddhiman Saha, OUT! Another one bites the dust! Starc into the act now! That was a sucker delivery as he dishes a fuller one outside off, Saha's eyes lit up seeing the width as he goes for the drive. He though fails to get to the pitch of the ball as he drives away from the body. The ball goes off Saha's outside edge and settles into the mitts of Tim Paine. India falling apart here early.
91.6 : Pat Cummins to Umesh Yadav, On a fuller length on off, Yadav strokes this through covers for a single.
90.4 : Mitchell Starc to Jasprit Bumrah, Length and around off, Bumrah plays a nice defensive stroke towards the off side.
90.5 : Mitchell Starc to Jasprit Bumrah, An awkward way of blocking from Bumrah! Short of a good length and around off, Jasprit blocks it off his back foot with an open stance.
91.1 : Pat Cummins to Umesh Yadav, Bumper! A bouncer over middle, Yadav ducks under this one.
91.2 : Pat Cummins to Umesh Yadav, FOUR! What an outstanding stroke! Yadav seems to want to add runs in a hurry! On a fuller length and on off, Yadav bangs this one over mid-wicket and it crosses the ropes on a couple of bounces for a boundary.
91.3 : Pat Cummins to Umesh Yadav, SWING AND A MISS! On a shorter length and on off, Yadav looks to pull but misses.
92.2 : Mohammed Shami is the last man in for India.
93.1 : Pat Cummins to Mohammed Shami, OUT! CAUGHT! Easiest of catches for Head! A very soft dismissal and India will be disappointed that they could not do much damage at the start of Day 2! They lose their last 4 wickets for just 11 runs! On a shorter length on middle, Shami just lets his bat hang in the way and the ball lobs up towards short leg, where Head takes the simplest of catches. INDIA BOWLED OUT FOR 244.
That brings an end to India's innings. They would though feel that they could have added a lot more to their overnight score but it was not to be as Starc and Cummins wrapped up the tail quickly.
90.6 : Mitchell Starc to Jasprit Bumrah, Good end to another over for Australia! Short and around off, Bumrah takes his eyes off as he gets away from the line of the attack.
92.1 : Mitchell Starc to Umesh Yadav, EDGY! A full ball on the pads, Yadav looks for the tuck away but closes the face of the bat early and the ball takes the outside edge and goes to the off side.
92.2 : Mitchell Starc to Umesh Yadav, OUT! CAUGHT! Starc gets his fourth wicket and India are nine wickets down now! Yadav threw his kitchen sink at this and in that process, loses his wicket. Starc dishes a good length ball on middle and off, Yadav looks for the big stroke again as he swings his bat hard but he does not time it well as it balloons towards the mid on region. Wade, the man at mid off, runs in, settles and takes a very good catch.
92.3 : Mitchell Starc to Jasprit Bumrah, Outside off on a good length, left alone.
92.4 : Mitchell Starc to Jasprit Bumrah, On off on a good length, Bumrah looks to push this one away but does not connect bat with ball.
92.5 : Mitchell Starc to Jasprit Bumrah, Outside off, Jasprit has no issues in leaving this one alone.
92.6 : Mitchell Starc to Jasprit Bumrah, FOUR! Something to cheer about for the Indian fans! On a good length on off, Bumrah drives this through cover-point and the ball races away to the ropes. He will be hoping to atleast cross the 250-run barrier for India.
After opting to bat, India were jolted early as they lost Shaw and Agarwal quickly but Pujara and Kohli dropped the anchor to start the revival act. The duo added 68 runs and just when it looked like Pujara-Kohli stand would go long and big, Pujara was sent back. Then came Kohli-Rahane stand of 88 that took them to safer shores as the Indian skipper went past his 23rd Test fifty too in the process. A mix up with his deputy though ended his stay and from then on, it was just one way traffic
Australia's bowling was spot on as they kept things tight and hard making the batters work hard for runs. Starc, Cummins, Hazlewood and Lyon were all in the wickets. Starc and Cummins ended with a 4-fer and 3-fer respectively. Hazlewood and Lyon had a wicket too to their name.

India will be the happier side heading into the Dinner break. They have just changed gears in the last half hour of play and Bumrah has done well to get rid of the openers of the Aussies. The hosts will be pleased as this break has come at the right time for them.
The Aussies started off in some fashion as they bundled out the remaining batters of India for just 11 runs as Cummins and Starc shared the four wickets amongst themselves. They started off slow with the bat but they seemed to have lost their way as Wade and Burns were sent packing by Bumrah. The positive thing for the hosts is that they have Smith and Labuschagne out in the middle and they will be roaring to play against this Indian bowling attack.
Right then, something to cheer about for both the teams. India will be hoping to continue more of the same and their counter-parts will be looking at Smith and Labuschagne to anchor and take them to safer shores. Which team comes out on top in the second session? Join us as we will be back shortly.
Not the start that India would have wanted to Day 2 but just the finish to the first session that they were aiming for, they have put the Australians on the back foot due to Bumrah's bowling in the last half hour. They were poor with the bat as they lost all their remaining wickets for just 11 runs. They started off nicely with the ball and have done extremely well towards the end of the session to send the openers back to the hut and will look to continue the same.

India will definitely be the happier side heading into the Tea break. This is just what they would have wanted when they came out after the Dinner break, that they could restrict the run flow and also scalp the wickets at regular intervals and they have done just that.
It was Ashwin who has ran riot all over the Aussie middle order as since he was introduced into the attack, he has picked up 3 wickets to his name. He removed the dangerous Smith and then kept at it and then sent Head and Green back into the shed as well. The hosts still have Labuschagne and skipper, Paine out in the middle and will be banking on them to continue their anchoring for as long as they can.
With the lights coming in later on in the innings, batting can become quite hard and Indians will be looking to wrap things up towards the end of the day. Who comes out on top? Will the duo of Labuschagne and Paine show resilience and fight it out till the end of the day or will the bowling attack of India make small work of the remaining batters? All the answers will be found after the Tea Break. Join us on the other side.

53.3 : Umesh Yadav to Marnus Labuschagne, OUT! LBW! Umesh gets his first wicket of the game and Labuschagne is walking back slowly to the shed! The batting by Australia is falling apart and their set batter is back now. India are doing really well to scalp the wickets at regular intervals and the Aussies are on the back foot now. He is also just short of his 50. Fullish length ball on middle and leg, Marnus looks to work this to the leg side but misses to get rapped on the pads. There is a loud a

It seems like he has saved a boundary by diving but replays show that the ball has touched the ropes.

58.6 : Jasprit Bumrah to Mitchell Starc, DROPPED! Another one goes down! This one though was a tough. Saha was running backwards and the ball was really swirling. It is short and on middle. Starc looks to pull but gets a top edge. It goes over the keeper who runs back. He is never comfortable under it. He then dives to his left and tries to take it with one hand but spills it. 60.1 : Ravichandran Ashwin to Mitchell Starc, OUT! Starc is indeed short. This is the last thing Australia needed, a run out! Not sure if the second run was on or needed there. It is on the pads, Starc works it through square leg and takes one. He calls for a second and goes for it. Shaw gets to the ball and fires it to the keeper. It is a good throw, right beside the stumps and Saha whips the bails off. The umpire takes it upstairs and replays show that Starc is short. Australia still trail by a

DRINKS! Paine is doing a good job here! He is scoring some handy runs for Australia. They trail by less than 90 now but they will want to get that down to around 50. Can they do so? India on the other hand, will want to stop that.

66.1 : Ravichandran Ashwin to Nathan Lyon, It lands in no man's land! Not sure how. This is tossed up on off, it turns back in. Lyon looks to sweep but due to the extra bounce. It hits the glove, then the body and lobs near short leg. The fielder there probably did not pick it. Saha runs after it and then dives but fails to get to it.

68.3 : Ravichandran Ashwin to Josh Hazlewood, Tossed up on middle, defended nicely.
68.4 : Ravichandran Ashwin to Josh Hazlewood, FOUR! Chipped over! So the intentions are clear! If it is tossed up, Josh is going to go for it. Ashwin giives it air and lands it on middle, Hazlewood lofts it high and over the mid on fielder for one more boundary.
68.5 : Ravichandran Ashwin to Josh Hazlewood, Goes back to bowling it flat and on middle, defended.
68.6 : Ravichandran Ashwin to Josh Hazlewood, A dot to end! On middle, it is blocked once again. So whatever is flat, Hazlewood is blocking and if tossed up, he is going after it. A good over for Australia.

70.1 : Ravichandran Ashwin to Tim Paine, FOUR! Lovely shot! Paine brings out the reverse sweep. He rolls his wrists over the ball to get over the bounce. Plays it nicely all along the ground and to the point fence.

70.6 : Ravichandran Ashwin to Tim Paine, And he gets the single! Slightly shorter and outside off, Paine manages to hit it wide of point for one. That should never have been a single. The bowler is frustrated and even more so, the skipper.

71.1 : Jasprit Bumrah to Tim Paine, Two is the call and two it is! On the pads, this is worked through mid-wicket for a couple.

71.6 : Jasprit Bumrah to Tim Paine, FOUR! A single is what Paine wanted but don't think he will mind a boundary! Or will he? India will be happy too, to have Hazlewood on strike from the first ball. This is short and outside off, Paine looks to pull. It is a high bumper. It goes off the top edge and to the fine leg fence.
Umesh Yadav is on!
72.1 : Umesh Yadav to Josh Hazlewood, OUT! Caught at slip! Pujara takes a good sharp catch! Umesh bangs it short and outside off. Hazlwood looks to slash at it. It goes off the outside edge and towards first slip. Pujara takes it above his head with a leap. AUSTRALIA HAVE BEEN BOWLED OUT FOR 191!
Hmmm.... a lead of 53! No so great under normal circumstances but when a team has made just under 250, they will take it with open hands. The Indian captain is looking visibly happy and not surprisingly. It is a matter of a watchful 25-30 minutes for tonight before bedding in the whole of tomorrow.
A sorry batting card for Australia. No David Warner, means that they struggle at the top. And add to it, Steven Smith flops, which means the spinal cord is cut off. Marnus Labuschagne was the only one who showed some resistance in the top half of the batting order and that too, after getting numerous chances. Australia can credit themselves for minimizing the lead though, as at 111/7, from staring at a lead in excess of 120, they have got it down to a shade over 50. Gritty knock from captain Tim
Sensational bowling performance from India. Why need batters to score 400-500 when you don't allow oppositions to score even 200? Jokes apart, except for the first 7-8 overs with the new ball this afternoon, where they wasted and Australia did not take any advantage, they were phenomenal. Mohammed Shami went wicketless but ironically, it was Shami who changed the proceedings. He showed the right lengths to bowl and Bumrah and Umesh duly followed. The duo shared 5 wickets between themselves but w
Right. 8 overs left in the day but don't think we will get all 8. We would be lucky to get 5. Australia will hope for at least a wicket or two while India will aim to knock these off without any damage.
0.1 : Mitchell Starc to Prithvi Shaw, Relief for Shaw. A length ball, but outside leg, helped to fine leg to get off the mark and the pair.
0.2 : Mitchell Starc to Mayank Agarwal, Around off, angling away, steered towards gully.
0.3 : Mitchell Starc to Mayank Agarwal, Fuller and wider outside off, easily left alone. India will not mind this line.
0.4 : Mitchell Starc to Mayank Agarwal, Doing too much. Starc finally gets the ball to swing. But it starts from middle and is comfortably going down, as it hits Agarwal's pads when he misses his flick.
0.5 : Mitchell Starc to Mayank Agarwal, That's the ball. Starc gets this to start from off stump and then shape back in, but Mayank is solid in blocking it to the leg side.
0.6 : Mitchell Starc to Mayank Agarwal, Good leave to end the over. MA has left a ball on off stump, but it is short enough. Not a great opening over from Starc.
Pat Cummins to bowl from the other end.
1.1 : Pat Cummins to Prithvi Shaw, A length ball, around off, worked wide of mid on but it is stopped.
1.2 : Pat Cummins to Prithvi Shaw, That is a real confident push from Prithvi Shaw. Overpitched from Cummins, on middle and off, Shaw just times this back past the bowler. However, the ball stops before the ropes and mid off gets to it. Three runs taken.
1.3 : Pat Cummins to Mayank Agarwal, Around off, on a length, helped in front of short leg.
1.4 : Pat Cummins to Mayank Agarwal, Goes for the yorker, does Cummins, but dishes out a low full toss. Perhaps trying a little bit too hard. Agarwal works it through mid-wicket for a couple.
1.5 : Pat Cummins to Mayank Agarwal, On a length, outside off, watchfully pushed towards point.
1.6 : Pat Cummins to Mayank Agarwal, EDGED BUT DROPPED! It is captain Paine who has no one else to blame. Cummins finally gets it right, landing it on a length outside off and getting it to move away. Agarwal feels for it, looking to push but only manages a thick outside edge, due to the late movement. It dips on its way behind, between the keeper and first slip. Tim Paine dives to his right but cannot quite make it stick in his glove. Would that have carried to first slip? Guess it might have.
2.1 : Mitchell Starc to Mayank Agarwal, Outside off, on a length, left alone.
2.2 : Mitchell Starc to Mayank Agarwal, On a length now, around off, pushed towards mid on.
2.3 : Mitchell Starc to Mayank Agarwal, IN THE AIR... DOES NOT CARRY! Everyone is nervy out there. Full and outside off, Agarwal goes at this with hard hands, looking to push. But the ball barely comes off the surface. Flies off the face of the bat but lands well short of Matthew Wade at short extra cover, rushing to his right. He slips as well.
2.4 : Mitchell Starc to Mayank Agarwal, Lovely ball. On a length, outside off, swinging back in, Mayank looks to defend but misses and is hit on the pads. The entire slip cordon goes up in an appeal but Starc has his hands on his head. He spotted the inside edge.
2.5 : Mitchell Starc to Mayank Agarwal, Outside off, angling away, let through.
2.6 : Mitchell Starc to Mayank Agarwal, This is outside off again, on a length, comes back in a little but Agarwal knows where his off stump is and shoulders arms.
3.1 : Pat Cummins to Prithvi Shaw, OUT! CLEANED HIM UP! If Mitch doesn't get you, Pat will. And Pat deserves a pat on his back. He could have been frustrated after a very trying first over but he eventually gets one of the openers. Pretty much similar to the way Starc got Shaw on Thursday. A length ball, outside off, Shaw looks to defend but there is a big gap between his bat and pad. The naughty ball exposes that gap. Does just enough to get back in, go through the gap, perhaps take a tiny littl
0.0 : Will we see a night watchman? Yes. It is Boom Boom Jasprit Bumrah.
3.2 : Pat Cummins to Jasprit Bumrah, A good ball to a new batsman, full and straight, but Bumrah defends it watchfully.

3.4 : Pat Cummins to Jasprit Bumrah, Back to bowling it full, Jasprit defends it solidly.
3.5 : Pat Cummins to Jasprit Bumrah, A short ball, around off, JB ducks,
3.6 : Pat Cummins to Jasprit Bumrah, Outside off, well negotiated by Boom Boom, as he pushes this towards point.
4.1 : Mitchell Starc to Mayank Agarwal, On a length, around off, Agarwal shoulders arms.
4.2 : Mitchell Starc to Mayank Agarwal, This is on the stumps, curving back in. Mayank works it to the leg side but Travis Head at short leg intercepts it well.
4.3 : Mitchell Starc to Mayank Agarwal, Misfired, down the leg side. MA looks to flick but misses.
4.4 : Mitchell Starc to Mayank Agarwal, On a length, outside off, angling away, shouldered arms to.
4.5 : Mitchell Starc to Mayank Agarwal, Perfect yorker, around off, swinging in, but equally well dug out.

5.1 : Pat Cummins to Jasprit Bumrah, Full and around off, watchfully defended.
5.2 : Pat Cummins to Jasprit Bumrah, Around off, Bumrah works it behind square leg, sets off for the single but is sent back! Rightly so. Bumrah is out there to protect the batsman.
5.3 : Pat Cummins to Jasprit Bumrah, Very full, outside off, a solid, solid defense from Boom Boom.
5.4 : Pat Cummins to Jasprit Bumrah, A wayward bouncer, down the leg side, Jasprit ducks. Just 2 more balls to get through.

This Test match has picked up frenetic pace. We are already into the third innings even before finishing Day 2. On a normal Test wicket, this seems like an evenly-poised match, but in this scenario, India are way ahead.
A day which was not kind to batsmen. 15 wickets fell overall, for just 209 runs, in roughly 80 overs. A day of attrition, felt largely by Australia because after all the hard work put in by their bowlers on Day 1, they put up a really average batting display. In a timid approach, one can say, where the batsmen hardly tried to score, the wickets eventually went to the Indian bowlers and in spite of losing an early wicket, they will believe they are in the driver's seat.
On we move to Day 3. The first couple of hours should decide the course of this game. If Australia manage to take wickets regularly, they will be in this game. If India do not lose more than 2 wickets and get more than 60-70 runs in the afternoon session, it would mean that they are effectively 130-140 for 3 from where, they can dictate terms and shut the hosts out of this match. Join us for all the action from 2.30 pm local (0400 GMT). ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
Life is tough. So is cricket. This is what Prithvi Shaw would be feeling. With every forward press from Bumrah, actually invoking applause from everyone in the dressing room of India, Shaw would be gutted for having missed out on this match, which might also be his last, given his returns and the demand to get in Shubman Gill. India could have easily been 2 down but Mayank Agarwal lives to fight on Saturday. A tense passage of play, with the score reading 9/1 but overall, in terms of the game si
... Day 3, Session 1 ...
Hello and welcome one and all for Day 3 of the Pink Ball Test between India and Australia. Day 3 often referred as the moving day in Test cricket is a day which decides what will be the outcome of the Test. Will we see similar things here too? Will we get to know in who's grasp is the game going? India with a lead of 62 runs and 9 wickets in hand will look to amass as much as possible to bat Australia out of the game. Whereas, Australia would look to chip in with quick wickets to halt the Indian

12.1 : Josh Hazlewood to Mayank Agarwal, OUT! CAUGHT! Perfect from Hazlewood. Bowls it on a good length and around off, Agarwal does the same mistake  as that of Pujara as he too goes to defend off the back foot. Ravichandran Ashwin is the new batsman in.
18.5 : Josh Hazlewood to Ravichandran Ashwin, OUT! CAUGHT! Australia into the Indian tail now with this wicket! Brilliant from Josh there. He bowls one around off and Ashwin who is caught on the back foot within the crease can only manage to get a faint tickle behind to the keeper. Tim Paine there takes the catch and goes up in an appeal joined by his bowler. The umpire too raises his finger after the appeal. Ashwin though is not convinced and challenges the decision taking it to third umpire.

0.0 : An appeal for caught behind is taken upstairs. Ashwin is adjudged out but he takes the help of the third umpire here. Lets's see what the replays have to show. It is a legal delivery as HotSpot comes on but nothing on it as we move to Real Time Snicko. Oh! There is a spike there and Ashwin you boy keep on walking there.
21.2 : The physio is out there to have a look at Shami. Some magic spray being applied and some running repairs done on him. He though seems to be fine to continue. Ohh! Hang on he as asked for the physio once again. He looks to be in some pain and is thus feeling uncomfortable.
Ohh! A bit of concern for India as the players walk off. Shami looks to be in some pain and is not in a state to continue. That ends the innings for India too. They are 36/9 and lead by 89 runs. Looks serious though but nevertheless, Australia would be a happy bunch of players after their fiery dsiplay with the ball.
The day began with the two overnight batsman occupying the crease for India but what unfolded was sheer brilliant from the Aussies. The departure of Bumrah opened the floodgates as wickets started falling in a heap. None of the Indian batters managed to get to double figures. A sad story for any Indian fan but this is reality. Pujara and Rahane departed without troubling the scorers as Kohli was out due to the sheer brilliance from Cameron Green. All in all a poor batting display.
The bowling from the Aussies was just brilliant. Tim Paine with his fielding placements was spot on. Though Pat Cummins started the procession but it was Josh Hazlewood who stole the show with his 5-fer.

Burns though is not at all interested as he sends him back. The throw from the bowler hits the stumps at the bowler's end but nothing results. That will also be DINNNER ON DAY 3!
What an amazing session we have had. Test cricket lives upto its charm. Resuming on their overnight score of 7/1, India soon found themselves in deep waters when they were reduced to 15/5. None of the batsmen looked to adjust to the conditions as they kept on coming and going away. None of them managed to get to even double digits as Pujara and  Rahane went without scoring. Shami though got injured and helped India avoid the blushes of getting out for a paltry 36 in their second innings.
Do join us for the second session which could well turn out to be the final one of this game as Australia need another 75 runs to win. Can they do it? Or will India spring up a surprise here? All answers coming up on the other side of the break.
In the short period what Australia got to bat in the 4th innings they have added 15 runs without losing a wicket as they chase 90 for a win in the first Test. The bowling so far has been wayward from Yadav though Bumrah has been good in patches. The loss of Shami with the ball would hurt India and it remains to be seen how India manage their bowling resources in this game with a bowler short.
Australia's bowling was just brilliant on the day. Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood were the three bowlers used by Australia in India's second innings. Cummins and Hazlewood wrecked havoc in the Indian camp as they shared 8 wickets between them. In the process, Cummins went past 150 Test wickets and Hazlewood went past 200 Test wickets. All in all a top class display of fast bowling from the Aussie duo as Starc played a perfect foil for them.

0.0 : Review Time! India have taken an LBW review against Joe Burns. The on field decision is not out. Let's see what the replays have to say. It is a fair delivery as Hot Spot comes on. Ohh! A thumping win for Australia here in the first Border-Gavaskar Test. A complete performance from their bowlers and batsmen. A humiliating loss for India though who were just blown away in their second innings.
Chasing a target of 90 never looked to be a daunting one as the two Australian openers started their quest towards victory. Though Burns started watchfully but Wade was right into the 4th gear as he found the fence quite often. After the dinner break Burns too joined the party as the duo went onto score runs at will and in competition as well as in company of each other as they stitched a stand worth 70 runs. Though Wade departed followed by Marnus Labuschagne but Joe Burns kept his cool and hit
Earlier after winning the toss, India went onto post 244 runs in their first innings. The star with the bat then was Virat Kohli who stroked to a well compiled 74 before being run out. The others to contribute substantially were Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane who both contributed by scoring around 40 odd runs. Rest all the batters failed to get themselves in. On the Australian bowling, Starc was the pick of the bowlers as he ended with 4 wickets to his name. Cummins ended with 3 wickets as
Virat Kohli, India skipper, says that it is hard to find words to express and to lose from a lead of 62 runs is something we did not expect. He further says that we did not take the morning session too well as they went hard at the ball. He further says that the Australian bowlers put them in situations where the edges were found but he says that there was nothing in the pitch which could be termed as drastic. Wishes his team for the remainder of the series and hopes that they come out stronger.
Australia's first innings also was no different of India. They too lost their top order cheaply and barring Marnus Labuschagne's 47 and Tim Paine's 73 none of the batters got going as they folded for 191 runs, conceding a lead of 53 in the process. For India, Ravichandran Ashwin was the pick of the lot as he ended with a 4-fer. The next best was Umesh Yadav who had 3 wickets to his name and Bumrah managed to get a couple too. In the end, Australia chased the target of 90 runs with ease to take a
India's second innings was just like a haunted nightmare where there were ruins. They lost Shaw once again cheaply on Day 2 and when they resumed their innings on the morning of Day 3 what unfolded was sheer hara-kiri. Pat Cummins started the downfall for India when he sent Jasprit Bumrah packing but then Hazlewood came in with lot of Josh (steam) to topple India's best in business with his precision bowling. In the end, India folded up for a paltry 36 runs on board in their second essay with th
Tim Paine, Australia skipper, and is also named the Man of the Match, says that he just asked his bowlers that they have the ability to take quick wickets and they just go out and try and exploit anything there on the surface. He further says that it is nice to get off to a good start but reckons that the first innings batting was poor. On Joe Burns he says that it feels good to have him back in the runs as that gives stability to the team.
That's it from this Pink Ball Test as Australia win comprehensively to lead the 4-match series 1-0. Virat Kohli goes home for the birth of his first child as Ajinkya Rahane takes over the mantle from him. Will a change in leadership bring a change in team India's fortunes? We will soon find out as the 2nd Test starts on the Boxing Day i.e 26th of December 2020. That game begins at 1030 local (2330 GMT, Previous Day). Till then, enjoy your Christmas, stay safe, take care and cheers.
