Demolition drive protection: Cough up Rs3.65 cr, cops tell PCMC

The Pune police have asked the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to pay Rs3.65 crore towards the charges for providing police protection during its demolition drive. The civic administration has tabled a proposal seeking approval of the PCMC standing committee.

The city police had also written to the PCMC on January 11 seeking settlement of pending dues. They had asked the civic body to pay outstanding dues of Rs5.18 crore.

According to PCMC sources, the police commissioner had called a meeting of the civic officials to discuss the pending dues on January 19. He had warned that police protection will not be provided if the civic administration fails to pay the dues.

Despite the CM’s assurance of presenting a bill in the ensuing assembly session to regularise illegal structures, the PCMC has continued its action against unauthorised constructions.
