Russia threatens legal action over 2G

The Russian envoy to the country, Alexander M Kadakin, said the losses on account of scrapping of 2G licences were huge and Russia could take the matter to the court.

“We are talking to the government, but are not excluding legal options against this decision. We are the victims here and are not going to just let this happen. It concerns an investment to the tune of $3.1 billion,” Kadakin told DNA.

“Sistema invested through the Russian government... when they were buying the licences you did not say anything...and then you cancel the licences. We will not allow (this to happen). It is the responsibility of the Indian government,” Kadakin said, adding that it did not mean curtains for Russian investment in the IT sector.

Meanwhile, Norwegian group Telenor said it will seek compensation from India if the dispute is not resolved. Its spokesman Glenn Mandelid said the company had not stated a specific compensation amount in its letter to New Delhi.
