Match over
0.0 : Hello and a warm welcome for the 5th and final ODI between Zimbabwe and Afghanistan. The hosts would be delighted with the way they have come back to level the series 2-2. It was Chris Mpofu who shone with the ball and put in a match-winning performance to bag the man of the match award in the previous contest. It was a good all-round performance from the home side and they thoroughly outplayed the tourists. They will be looking to repeat their top class performance and clinch the series.
On the other hand, Afghanistan's batting has been the reason for their downfall. They were doing pretty okay till that third ODI where they managed to lose a game from the jaws of victory. Their batsmen need to support their bowlers if they are to come on top against a Zimbabwean side who have found their confidence back. Can they keep their record of never losing a series to Zimbabwe intact or will the home side rule the roost? There are predictions for thunderstorms but hope they don't play sp

After 5 overs, Afghanistan are 29/0. Mohammad Shahzad and Noor Ali Zadran have been positive with their strokeplay and are ticking along the scoreboard nicely. There is good movement on offer and Chatara and Ngarava have been decent with their lines and lengths. They will look to make use of the helpful conditions and strike early.

After 10 overs, Afghanistan are 57/2. Ngarava is the one to have done the damage to the visitors by nipping out two quick wickets. First of all, he knocked Mohammad Shahzad over by bowling it in the channel around off and went through his defences. Then, he foxed Gulbadin Naib with an indipper to trap him in front of the wickets. Noor Ali Zadran is looking in good touch and he has been joined by Rahmat Shah. They need to build a sensible partnership to bail the tourists out of trouble.

After 15 overs, Afghanistan are 85/3. Though the visitors have maintained a scoring rate of around 6, Zimbabwe are right on top and will be elated to see the back of Noor Ali Zadran who was nearing his fifty. Chris Mpofu, the star of the previous match struck when it mattered the most. The opener was doing bulk of the scoring and was batting with confidence before he played a rash pull shot that led to a top edge and Ryan Burl at short mid-wicket pouched it safely. Asghar Stanikzai, the skipper

After 20 overs, Afghanistan are 104/3. With Chris Mpofu and Graeme Cremer bowling in tandem, arguably the two best bowlers in the Zimbabwe side, run making has dried up a touch for Afghanistan. They have been right on the money, making Stanikzai and Shah adopt a defensive approach. The duo would look to keep on rotating the strike and build a good base for their side. On the other hand, triggering a collapse is what the home side would be aiming for.

After 25 overs, Afghanistan are 123/3. Another tidy passage of play for the hosts but the tourists would be pleased that Stanikzai and Shah have been composed in their demeanor and haven't played a shot out of rush of blood. The Afghani side have scored a boundary after 57 deliveries but it is alright from their point of view as they need stability in the middle overs.

After 30 overs, Afghanistan are 132/4. Just what the doctor ordered for Zimbabwe, they have got the big wicket of Asghar Stanikzai who was in decent touch with the bat in this series so far. Sean Williams has been miserly and Graeme Cremer keeping it tight from the other end has helped Williams earn his first wicket in the form of an LBW. The spin duo has only conceded 9 runs in the last five overs and are making life difficult for the visitors. They do not have much batting to come, so having R

After 35 overs, Afghanistan are 153/4. The game is in the balance at the moment. Remember, Zimbabwe haven't crossed the 200-mark in this series yet and the tourists have an explosive bowling attack which is very much capable of defending low totals. Rahmat Shah is the top run scorer in the series at the moment and has moved onto 40. He has playing a crucial knock and has found an able partner in Samiullah Shenwari. The hosts need quick wickets to put the pressure back on the Afghani side.

After 40 overs, Afghanistan are 172/6. The away side is making a habit of throwing their wickets away, this time it has taken place in form of two terrible run outs. The Afghani batsmen haven't been decisive with their calling and have finally paid the price for it. First, it was miscommunication between Shenwari and Shah that resulted in the former getting out. Then, Mohammad Nabi who had joined Shah in the middle sold the latter down the river. The hosts now have an opportunity to bowl out the

After 45 overs, Afghanistan are 213/7. Mohammad Nabi has made up for the dismissal of Rahmat Shah and has played a breezy knock of 36 from 29 so far. Though Cremer dismissed Najibullah as the latter tried to go big but holed out to Mire at deep mid-wicket, the visitors have managed to add 41 in the last five overs and have gained good momentum. They will be eyeing the 260-run mark to set up the highest chase for Zimbabwe in this series.

AFGHANISTAN FINSIH WITH 253/9 ON THE BOARD. A breezy batting display from them in the slog overs ensured that they reach this competitive total. There were some promising partnerships all along the way and that never allowed the hosts to dominate the visitors. Noor Ali Zadran laid up a solid foundation and the middle order was decent to carry his efforts forward. Rahmat Shah was really impressive as he batted sensibly and milked himself to a well deserved half century.
In the lower middle order, Nabi played a quickfire knock and a few lusty blows from Rashid Khan and Dawlat Zadran at the fag end allowed them to finish with smiles on their faces. For the hosts, Cremer and Williams were miserly with the ball and dried the run flow in the middle overs to grab a wicket each. But it was the hero of the last match, Chris Mpofu who was once again top class with his bowling and finished with figures of 9-0-46-3. So, can the home side pull off the highest chase of the

The pressure of the stiff target has got the better of them and they have thrown their wickets away in hunt of quick runs. It was always going to be a difficult prospect for the hosts as they do not have big hitters in their ranks. The Afghani bowlers ha

AFGHANISTAN WIN BY 106 runs to seal the 5-match ODI series 3-2. It was complete domination by the Afghani side to rattle down the hosts after the target for Zimbabwe was revised to 161 from 22 overs due to rain (According to DLS method). They got bowled out for 54 which happens to be their fourth lowest total in ODI cricket. Only 2 of their batsmen managed to get into double figures. That speaks volumes about the way the visitors bowled but it also exposes the fact that the home side lacks big h
Each Afghani bowler was disciplined and bowled probing lines and lengths. Amir Hamza and Mohammad Nabi were the pick of the bowlers with 3 wickets apiece. The Zimbabwe side withered under pressure and surrendered to the tourists. Nothing to speak about their batting as there weren't any noteworthy performances. So, Afghanistan maintain their clean record of winning every bilateral ODI series against Zimbabwe and are thoroughly the deserved winners.
Rahmat Shah bags the Man of the Match award. He scored a sensible half century and set up the game for Afghanistan.
So that's it from us! It was an interesting ODI series and Afghanistan proved their mettle once again. They will now head to Greater Noida, India where they are scheduled to take on Ireland for a 3-match T20I series as well as a 5-match ODI series in March.
