Zimbabwe beat Afghanistan by 3 runs
AFG 126/10 (29.3)
Match over
0.0 : Hello and a warm welcome to the 3rd ODI between Zimbabwe and Afghanistan at the Harare Sports Club. The hosts were a touch unfortunate to lose the first ODI but then got outplayed by the visitors in the second. This has landed them in a must-win situation. If the home side wants to stay alive in the series, they have to win today. It's going to be difficult against a solid Afghan side but not impossible.
The visitors have moved from strength to strength and are set to register another series win against the Chevrons. They have looked brilliant in all the departments and just need to carry on their momentum. If the Zimbabweans bring out their A-game today, we are in for a cracker of a match.
It is bright and sunny out there but the weather forecast predicts some showers later in the day. Hopefully, the prediction comes wrong and we have a full game in our hands.
TOSS - Zimbabwe win the toss and elect to bat first.
TEAM CHANGES - The home side makes one change by bringing in all-rounder Sean Williams for Hamilton Masakadza while Afghanistan make a couple of changes as Hashmatullah Shaidi and Dawlat Zadran make way for Fareed Ahmed and Samiullah Shenwari.
The players and the umpires have made their way out in the middle. Peter Moor and Solomon Mire to open the innings for the hosts. Amir Hamza will take the new ball first up for Zimbabwe. Unfortunately, due to lack of television feed, there won't be ball-by-ball commentary for this match but we shall keep you posted with updates.

After 5 overs, Zimbabwe are 11/1. Once again the visitors have struck early through Fareed Ahmed, who has sent the dangerous Solomon Mire back in the hut. Afghanistan started with spin from side and pace from the other. This has worked in their favour as they have been able to keep runs in check and also scalped a wicket. Tarisai Masukanda has now joined Moor in the middle and will look to steady the ship.

After 10 overs, Zimbabwe are 26/3! The visitors are cruising through at the moment. They kept on building pressure on the hosts and got rewarded big time. Peter Moor, struggling for runs, went for a big shot and lost his wicket to Gulbadin Naib. The home side soon lost their anchor, Craig Ervine on the immediate delivery. Musakanda has looked the best of all the Zimbabwean batsmen so far and will look to steady the ship along with Sean Williams.

They are now ticking nicely and finding odd boundaries. The partnership now stands on 54 runs off 58 balls. After 30 overs, Zimbabwe get to 121/6! After finding an able partner in Waller, Musakanda started playing freely and notched up his maiden ODI fifty. The pair was looking good and were putting the pressure back on the visitors. However, just then the half-centurion mistimed one to Rashid Khan and had to make the long way back. Fareed Ahmad was the one who got the breakthrough for his team and ended the 81-run stand for 6th wicket. The weather doesn't looks much ominous as the clouds now seem to

Zimbabwe are bowled out for a paltry total of 129 in just 32.4 overs. After winning the toss and opting to bat first, the hosts were found themselves in the worst possible situation. They lost half the side for just 40 runs. Then Malcolm Waller walked in the middle and he along with Tarisai Musakanda steadied the ship and cruised along nicely.
Both were looking in a good touch and took the Afghan bowling apart. Musakanda scored his maiden ODI fifty but soon after lost his way, ending the 81-run stand. This wicket opened the flood gates as they lost the last 5 wickets for just 8 runs in 17 deliveries. Waller the other batsmen apart from Musakanda, who looked good in the middle remained unbeaten on 36.
Superb bowling performance from the visitors.

What a victory! Zimbabwe have pulled out a thriller! Cricket is a game of glorious uncertainties and today's match was one of the best example of it. With just 130 needed to win the match and the series, the visitors were the clear favourites. However, it wasn't to be. The hosts started in a great fashion as they got rid of Noor Ali in the second over itself and then also got the precious wicket of Shahzad as he looked to take the attack to them.
After losing 3 quick wickets, Asghar Stanikzai and Samiullah Shenwari calmed things down for the visitors and looked set on the path towards victory. After the skipper's departure Gulbadin Naib walked in and added 33 runs for 5th wicket before getting out to a rather loose shot. Still the visitors were the clear favourites as they needed just 23 runs with 5 wickets in hand. And with Shenwari and Nabi out in the middle it looked like a stroll in the park for the Afghans.
Then there was a twist in tale! Sean Williams and Chris Mpofu had other things in mind and started the collapse similar to the way their team collapsed in the first innings. Mpofu first sent Shenwari and Najibullah packing in back-to-back deliveries. Then pressure got better of Nabi while the remaining task proved too much for the tail. In first innings, Zimbabwe were restricted from 121/5 to 129 all out while Afghanistan bundled out from 121/5 to 126 all out. The last three runs scored in the f
After a poor effort with the bat, the Chefrons were superb with the ball. They kept on picking wickets at regular intervals which proved to be the undoing of the visitors. Tendai Chatara started the proceedings as he bowled his full quota of 10 overs on trot in the start and scalped 3 wickets, giving away just 30 runs. And in the end it was Sean Williams and Chris Mpofu who scripted Zimbabwe's way to victory by picking up 3 wickets apiece in quick succession.
The Man of the Match award has been awarded to Tendai Chatara as well as Sean Williams. The former begin the proceedings with the ball and ended with the figures of 10-0-30-3! Whereas Sean Williams triggered the collapse by picking wickets of Gulbadin Naib, Mohammad Nabi and Amir Hamza in the end.
So after a breathtaking victory, Zimbabwe stay alive in the series and make it 1-2! It will take some time for the hosts to let this victory soak in but they don't have time for it as the next game takes place in three day's time. And that too being a do-or-die contest for them in the series. The visitors on the other hand would be frustrated with their today's performance and will look to bounce back hard in the next game which takes place at Harare Sports Club on 24th February at 0930 local ti
