0.0 : Hello and a warm welcome for the first ODI between Zimbabwe and Afghanistan at Harare Sports Club. The hosts have taken a brave move by leaving out a number of seasoned campaigners. They still do boast of having a really good bowling unit under their very own legend Heath Streak.
The visitors on the other hand are high on confidence after a successful Desert T20 competition in which they were unbeaten throughout. The away side have also never lost a series in Zimbabwe so there is plenty of things at stake in this series. Join us in a while for the toss.
Toss - Afghanistan win the toss and opt to bat first. Ryan Burl and Richard Ngarava make their ODI debuts for Zimbabwe.
The players are out in the middle. Mohammad Shahzad and Noor Ali Zadran will open with the bat for Afghanistan while Tendai Chatara will begin the proceedings with the ball for Zimbabwe. Unfortunately, due to lack of television feed, there won't be ball-by-ball commentary for this match but we shall keep you posted with updates every 5 overs.

After 30 overs, Afghanistan have crossed the 100-run mark and reached 112/3. They lost two set batsmen at a crucial time and it was necessary for the middle order to reconstruct their innings. That's what the visiting team skipper Asghar Stanikzai has managed to do with Hashmatullah Shahidi, who has assisted him well from the other end. They have scored only 15 runs in the last 5 overs but they won't mind that and will look to accelerate in the coming overs.

A decent batting performance by Afghanistan after electing to bat first. After losing Mohammad Shahzad early, Noor Ali Zadran and Rahmat Shah calmed things up and stitched together a 67-run stand. However, they failed to build on it. The away team skipper Asghar Stanikzai scored some quick runs, smashing his 7th ODI fifty in the process, but kept losing partners at the other end. The lower middle order failed to capitalize as they slipped from 156-3 to 169-7. Just when the 200-run mark was looki
Zimbabwe's head coach, Heath Streak will be happy with his bowlers as they hardly put a foot wrong on the field today. They kept troubling the visitors by sticking to their plans. Graeme Cremer was the pick of the bowlers as he ended with figures of 10-0-46-3. Tendai Chatara and Chris Mpofu also picked up a couple of wickets each to maintain the pressure. However, it should be an exciting chase as the hosts come out to hunt the total down. Join us in a while for the Zimbabwe innings.

After 10 overs, Zimbabwe have scored 37 runs for the loss of 2 wickets. It was a passage that Afghanistan dominated. Mohammad Nabi got rid of Moor off his very third ball in the 6th over. Sikandar Raza and Craig Ervine are batting at the centre. They will have to lay a solid foundation and ensure that the asking rate doesn't increase.

After 15 overs, Zimbabwe are struggling on 47/3. The visitors have managed to get the big fish in Sikandar Raza. They will wish to create further inroads. On the other hand, the debutant Ryan Burl is out in the middle and he will hope and try to give support to Craig Ervine. The hosts will wish for a good partnership between the two in order to stay on track in this run chase as they need another 169 runs off 35 overs for a win.

After 20 overs, Zimbabwe are 67/3. The going has been slow for them in the last 5 overs but they are in no hurry as the required run-rate is well in check. The visitors will need to pick up quick wickets to get the upper hand in this game.

After 25 overs, Zimbabwe are 86/3, needing 130 more off 150 balls. Another slow passage of play for them and the debutant Ryan Burl also got a reprieve as he was dropped on 18 by Mohammad Nabi. An easy chance went down which has helped the hosts keep their wicket tally intact. The required run-rate is rising but is not alarming yet. If the current partnership prospers, the away side will be in a state of worry.

RAIN INTERRUPTION after 27.2 overs, Zimbabwe are 99/4! Oh dear, suddenly the heavens have opened up and the players have rushed back to the dressing room. It's unfortunate for Zimbabwe as prior to the start of the 28th over, they were ahead by one run on the DL count. But since they lost Ryan Burl on the first ball, Afghanistan have gone ahead. The home side will hope that the rain stops soon and the game resumes.
Update 1427 GMT (1627 local) - The rain has stopped and the covers are off. The target has been revised to 207 in 46 overs. So, the required equation for Zimbabwe - 108 needed off 112 balls. We might get underway soon, if there are no concerns with the outfield.
It's all over. The rain stopped quite a while back but the damage it did to the outfield was severe. The umpires and the match referee had a look and decided to call it off. AFGHANISTAN WIN BY 12 RUNS (DL METHOD)!
Zimbabwe will be heartbroken with the outcome of this match. As mentioned before, they were ahead on the DL count at the end of the 27th over but the wicket of debutant Ryan Burl proved costly as it pushed Afghanistan ahead.
Earlier in the match, a good bowling performance by Zimbabwe restricted Afghanistan to a low total. The chase didn't initiate well for the home team though. The Afghan bowlers didn't let them off the hook by bowling tidy lines and chipped early wickets. Craig Ervine, however, held one end tightly and his 55-run partnership with Burl kept the game in balance.
The match was taking an interesting turn but then the heavens opened up and spoiled all the fun. The timing of the rain gods favoured Afghanistan today but it could have gone either way.
Asghar Stanikzai bags the Man of the Match award for his excellent knock. That's all from this game. Do join us on 19th February for the second ODI at 0930 local (0730 GMT). Until then, it's goodbye from all of us here. Cheers!
