0.0 : Hello and welcome for Qualifier 1. Hyderabad and Chennai, who finished the points table in the group stage 1st and 2nd respectively, remained separated only because of the NRR. It's the big one, a glorious night for cricket at the Wankhede Stadium. Dhoni's side may have a bit of momentum as they won their last game, where the Orange Army suffered three back-to-back losses. Though, in saying that, past form and occurrences don't matter at the end of the day. It's a new day with a fresh challenge,
Pitch Report - Sunil Gavaskar out in the middle says there is some wear and tear around the good length area. Adds the spinners who can make the ball come back in, like Rashid Khan for example, will do well. States the surface is on the slower side. Reckons the team that wins the toss will field first, as they would surely like to assess the conditions first and then have a go.
Toss - Kane Williamson flips the coin, Heads is called by MS Dhoni, it's come down as Heads. CHENNAI WILL FIELD!
MS Dhoni says that they will bowl. Feels it's a 7 o' clock start which means if there is dew, it will be more in the second half. Also adds that they have chased well this season. (On them being consistent to get to the playoffs) MS Dhoni credits his team for performing so well and considers himself lucky to get good performing players at the beginning. About his team, MS replies that Shane Watson comes in for Sam Billings.
Kane Williamson wanted to bowl as well for the same reasons as mentioned by Dhoni. Feels that they have adapted to different conditions nicely and considers Wankhede to be having a very good surface. Informs that they are playing the same XI.
Time to set the ball rolling. The Chennai players walk through the red carpet and are in a customary huddle. Now, out come the two openers of Hyderabad - Shikhar Dhawan and Shreevats Goswami. This pair had an excellent last game and would be aiming to provide a similar start. Deepak Chahar will take the new ball first up. A slip in place for him. Let's go...
0.1 : D Chahar to S Dhawan, OUT! BOWLED 'EM! Shikhar Dhawan is gone first ball! Literally, the absolute perfect start for Chennai. Deepak Chahar comes steaming in and lands it on a length around off, it shapes back in a touch and Dhawan is undone by that. Looks to play at it but gets an inside edge back on which rattles the stumps. The Yellow Army rejoices.
Skipper Kane Williamson walks in next. He's going to have to play a big one tonight with Shikhar Dhawan gone so early.
0.2 : D Chahar to K Williamson, Nice shape on this again. Fuller in length around off and it moves away, Williamson plants his front foot forward and blocks it out.
0.3 : D Chahar to K Williamson, On the fuller side again, outside off, defended again with soft hands on the off side.
0.4 : D Chahar to K Williamson, FOUR! And there it is! Shot from a man oozing with confidence. Full and wide outside off, Williamson lunges forward and drives it sweetly through the gap in the covers for a boundary.
0.5 : D Chahar to K Williamson, FOUR! Two in two for the Hyderabad skipper! Chahar looks for the swing but there isn't any, fires it on the pads and Williamson flicks it aerially through backward square leg for another boundary.
0.6 : D Chahar to K Williamson, FOUR! Third on the trot! 12 off the over and a wicket to go along with it. All happening here at the very beginning. Sprayed on the pads again, Kane Williamson flicks it fine down the leg side, comfortably sending it across the boundary line.
Lungi Ngidi to bowl from the other end.
1.1 : L Ngidi to S Goswami, Angles across a length delivery around off, Goswami gets off the mark with a punch behind the diving point fielder. Single taken.
1.2 : L Ngidi to K Williamson, Cut in half! Ripper from Lungi. Length delivery around off, shapes back in and Williamson can't do anything about that. He'll feel lucky it just goes past the inside edge and into Dhoni's gloves. The Chennai skipper makes a muted appeal, but nothing from the umpire.
1.3 : L Ngidi to K Williamson, Full in length outside the line of off stump, driven off the inner half to mid on.
1.4 : L Ngidi to K Williamson, Pushes this full delivery just wide of mid off and gets to the other end quickly.
1.5 : L Ngidi to S Goswami, Hits the deck hard as he holds the length back a bit this time, on leg, Goswami backs away, gets cramped for room as he chops it down on the off side. No run taken.
1.6 : L Ngidi to S Goswami, Edged and FOUR! With the way he's moving the ball, maybe a second slip should have been in place. Easier said in hindsight I suppose. Length delivery moving away, around off, Goswami plays away from his body and gets a thick edge past the slip fielder for a boundary.
2.1 : D Chahar to K Williamson, A lot of swing on offer for Deepak Chahar. Good length ball on off, going away from the batsman, it's run down to third man with an open face for a single.
2.2 : D Chahar to S Goswami, Some width offered outside off, steered behind point for one.
2.3 : D Chahar to K Williamson, FOUR! Oh, wow! All class from Kane. This is unreal. Back of a length and he has some room outside off, wastes no time in rocking back and cutting it fiercely through point for a boundary.
2.4 : D Chahar to K Williamson, Run out chance missed! Don't think Dhoni realized how much time he had. Speared full on the pads, Williamson flicks it behind square leg and the batsmen take two. Goswami, however, calls for the third and the two Hyderabad players are off. Now, this is dangerous as Harbhajan fires the throw to Dhoni, who looks to parry it back on the stumps after leaping first. Had he taken the bails off normally, Goswami would have been gone.
2.5 : D Chahar to S Goswami, Outside off on a good length, worked to third man for one run.
2.6 : D Chahar to K Williamson, Kane stays back and offers a solid punch on the off side.
3.1 : L Ngidi to S Goswami, Shreevats looks to take Ngidi on. Gives the charge to this back of a length delivery and attempts to crash it through the off side, but is beaten due to the extra bounce.
3.2 : L Ngidi to S Goswami, FOUR! That went to the fence in a flash! Right off the meat. Ngidi overpitches this in line of the stumps, Goswami stays leg side and thumps it through the covers across the boundary line.
3.3 : L Ngidi to S Goswami, Brings his wrists into play as he works it on the leg side. Single taken.
3.4 : L Ngidi to K Williamson, Good call from Kane. Taps this just wide of the point fielder and jogs across to the other end.
3.5 : L Ngidi to S Goswami, OUT! Superb catch from Lungi Ngidi! Wonderful stuff. Hits the deck hard again, cramps Goswami for room who looks to back away and pull it across the line. Ends up getting it off the higher part of the bat back down the track where Ngidi dives forward and takes an excellent return catch. The southpaw was struggling a bit, he departs for just 12.
Manish Pandey is the new man in.
3.6 : L Ngidi to M Pandey, Beaten! Back of a length in the off stump channel, Pandey looks to half-heartedly hit it on the off side but misses. Excellent over from the South African, 6 runs and a wicket off it.
Shardul Thakur into the attack now.
4.1 : S Thakur to K Williamson, Can't bowl it to him there. Full on the pads, it's flicked through backward square leg for a double.
4.2 : S Thakur to K Williamson, OUT! That's the big one! That's the wicket which Chennai wanted. A soft dismissal in the end, to be honest. It's short and down the leg side from Thakur, Williamson looks to pull this hard across the fine leg fence but gloves it behind to Dhoni who makes no mistake in taking it. Hyderabad in some trouble now. 3 wickets down inside the Powerplay.
Shakib Al Hasan to bat next.
4.3 : S Thakur to Al Hasan, FOUR! Superb way to get off the mark! Length ball outside off, Shakib stands tall and crunches it between point and cover-point for a boundary.
4.4 : S Thakur to Al Hasan, Back of a length quite close to off, Shakib hangs back and keeps it out.
4.5 : S Thakur to Al Hasan, Shortish delivery around leg, pulled to fine leg for a run.
4.6 : S Thakur to M Pandey, Good length ball on off stump, blocked solidly by Pandey to end the over.
Deepak Chahar has a change of ends.
5.1 : D Chahar to Al Hasan, The batsman shows the full face of the bat and defends the ball off the back foot.
5.2 : D Chahar to Al Hasan, Short of a good length going across, Shakib rises on his toes and cracks it, but straight to the man at cover.
5.3 : D Chahar to Al Hasan, FOUR! Shot! Back of a length on middle and off, Al Hasan pulls this all along the ground through backward square leg for a boundary.
5.4 : D Chahar to Al Hasan, Unfortunate. Shakib dances down the track to this length ball and punches it back down the track. Hits the stumps at the other end so won't get any run. Fortunately for Pandey, Chahar didn't touch the ball at all.
5.5 : D Chahar to Al Hasan, Prior to this delivery, the ball slipped out of Chahar's hands and went way over Shakib's head. But, for some reason, the umpire did not signal a no ball. It was signalled as a dead ball. Strange. On this one now, it's a back of a length delivery which is pulled away on the leg side. Single taken.
5.6 : D Chahar to M Pandey, Full outside off, pushed to mid off by Pandey for a brisk single. End of the Powerplay which is belonged to Chennai. Hyderabad are 47/3.
Dwayne Bravo comes on to have a go with the ball.
6.1 : D Bravo to M Pandey, Driven straight to the mid off fielder. Dot ball.
6.2 : D Bravo to M Pandey, On the fuller side of things, flicked down to fine leg for a single. There was a misfield from the fielder, which allowed the batsmen to easily take it.
6.3 : D Bravo to Al Hasan, The batsman works it down the leg side. Two runs added to the total.
6.4 : D Bravo to Al Hasan, OUT! Another soft dismissal, almost identical to Williamson's wicket. Length delivery around leg, Shakib too attempts to pull this down to fine leg but ends up getting it off the inner part of the gloves behind to Dhoni who takes it with absolute glee diving low to his right. Hyderabad falling deeper here, they need a partnership.
Yusuf Pathan is the next batsman in.
6.5 : D Bravo to Y Pathan, Short ball banged in outside off, Pathan tries to play the ramp shot but fails to make connection.
6.6 : D Bravo to Y Pathan, Back of a length outside off, punched behind square on the off side for a single.
Ravindra Jadeja introduced into the attack.
7.1 : R Jadeja to Y Pathan, Darted full on the stumps, pushed to mid off.
7.2 : R Jadeja to Y Pathan, Goes down the ground again, but to the other side. Single taken to mid on.
7.3 : R Jadeja to M Pandey, Eased down to long off for another single.
7.4 : R Jadeja to Y Pathan, Yusuf works it to the mid-wicket region. One run added to the total.
7.5 : R Jadeja to M Pandey, Worked away off the pads. Dot ball.
7.6 : R Jadeja to M Pandey, Darted full and flat on the stumps, played back down the track off the front foot.
8.1 : D Bravo to Y Pathan, Bravo generating some pace here. Pounds it short on middle and leg, Pathan ducks and evades.
8.2 : D Bravo to Y Pathan, Wide! Down the leg side, Pathan tries to help it on its way but misses.
D Bravo to Y Pathan, Bumper again, this time around off, ducked and avoided by the batsman.
8.3 : D Bravo to Y Pathan, Behind a length, on middle and off, Pathan moves across and off the inner half, pushes this to mid-wicket. Runs the first one hard and manages to come back for the second.
8.4 : D Bravo to Y Pathan, Short of a length outside off, punched nicely through sweeper cover for a couple of runs.
8.5 : D Bravo to Y Pathan, Yusuf has driven it through mid off. They pick up a single.
8.6 : D Bravo to M Pandey, Full delivery, at 131 clicks outside off, Pandey gets a little low and squeezes it out towards point for one.
Strategic break. Hyderabad falling down the hill here. 4 wickets down, 2 of them soft dismissals, 1 of them being the in-form Kane Williamson. The Orange Army doesn't have many left, so this pair of Pandey and Pathan will have to carry them now.
9.1 : R Jadeja to M Pandey, Flatter ball on off, Pandey skips down the track and plays it to point off the outer half.
9.2 : R Jadeja to M Pandey, Sliding in on middle and leg, worked 'round the corner for a single.
9.3 : R Jadeja to Y Pathan, A hint of flight on this occasion, some grip off the surface as well, Pathan comes forward and blocks.
9.4 : R Jadeja to Y Pathan, Closes the face and works this full ball through mid-wicket. Single to the total.
9.5 : R Jadeja to M Pandey, Short, flat and quick on the stumps, pulled hard aerially through square leg. One run collected as there is a fielder in the deep.
9.6 : R Jadeja to Y Pathan, Short and outside off, cut square but straight to point.
Deepak Chahar is back into the attack.
10.1 : D Chahar to M Pandey, Shy at the non-striker's end, missed! Angles in a slower delivery on middle, on a fuller length, Pandey leans forward and across to flick it on the leg side. The short mid-wicket fielder stops it and has an immediate shy at the bowler's end. Misses and the mid off fielder does well to stop it with a dive. Good cricket all around.
10.2 : D Chahar to M Pandey, Another delivery which lacks pace, on middle, Pandey forces it down to long on for one.
10.3 : D Chahar to Y Pathan, Shortish on off, tapped down towards backward point.
10.4 : D Chahar to Y Pathan, Wide! Slower delivery gone all wrong. Down the leg side, a late thought probably by Pathan to play at it but he misses.
D Chahar to Y Pathan, Too full in length at 131.8 kph, on middle, Pathan does well to dig it out back to the bowler.
10.5 : D Chahar to Y Pathan, Bouncer this time, Chahar varying his length quite nicely. Outside off at 135.3 kph, Pathan leaves it.
10.6 : D Chahar to Y Pathan, A slower bouncer this time, in the channel outside off, 114.6 kph, Pathan is deceived a bit but then leaves.
D Chahar to Y Pathan, Chahar is in good rhythm at the moment. Executing all his variations with aplomb. A slower delivery, on a shortish length outside off, Pathan tries powering it across the line but ends up bottom edging it back to the bowler. Lovely over.
11.1 : R Jadeja to M Pandey, Knocks a full ball down through mid off and crosses.
11.2 : R Jadeja to Y Pathan, Arm ball on middle, skidding down, Pathan helps it behind square leg for a single.
11.3 : R Jadeja to M Pandey, OUT! A simple caught and bowled for Jadeja. He fires this one in, around middle and leg at 99.7 kph, Pandey tries to work it on the leg side but closes the face of the bat early. It pops out off the leading edge back to the bowler who moves across to his right and takes the catch with his fingers pointing skywards. Things continue to go from bad to worse for Hyderabad. Manish Pandey's sorry season continues.
Carlos Brathwaite is the new batsman. Hyderabad will hope that he does something which will be worth remembering his name.
11.4 : R Jadeja to C Brathwaite, Another one fired in on middle, defended off the front foot.
11.5 : R Jadeja to C Brathwaite, Direct hit would have been curtains for Brathwaite. A flatter delivery by Jadeja on middle, Carlos taps it down on the leg side and rushes down the track in search of his first run. MS Dhoni attacks the ball, picks it up and has a shy at his end but misses. That's the second run out chance that MS has missed today.
11.6 : R Jadeja to C Brathwaite, Jadeja continues to fire it in, on middle at 100.8 kph, Brathwaite pushes it back off the leading half of the blade.
Shardul Thakur returns.
12.1 : S Thakur to Y Pathan, Played to the point region by the batsman. One run added to the total.
12.2 : S Thakur to C Brathwaite, Shortish and outside off, played down to backward point.
12.3 : S Thakur to C Brathwaite, Helps it off his pads to mid-wicket and gets off the mark with a single.
12.4 : S Thakur to Y Pathan, Pitches it up and outside off, it's driven off the front foot but straight to the cover fielder.
12.5 : S Thakur to Y Pathan, Bangs it in short, a bouncer at 136.7 kph, Pathan lets it be.
12.6 : S Thakur to Y Pathan, FOUR! First boundary after the Powerplay! Have to say, against the run of play. It's full and on middle, 139 kph, Pathan clips it off his pads and it speeds through mid-wicket. Ngidi in the deep rushes across to his left but fails to stop the ball from crossing the rope.
13.1 : R Jadeja to C Brathwaite, Gets down on one knee with the sweep shot but finds the short fine leg fielder.
13.2 : R Jadeja to C Brathwaite, That's 102 kph on the speedgun. On middle and Carlos works it through mid-wicket for one.
13.3 : R Jadeja to Y Pathan, Continues to fire bullets, keeping it in line of the stumps, not allowing any room. Pathan still manages to get his drive away although it's straight to covers.
13.4 : R Jadeja to Y Pathan, Skidding down leg, Pathan fails to work it off his pads. Beaten for pace.
13.5 : R Jadeja to Y Pathan, A front foot drive by Pathan but Raina is quick to move across to his right from mid off to stop the ball.
13.6 : R Jadeja to Y Pathan, FOUR! Aahhh...a boundary off the last ball spoils his bowling figures just a little bit. Still 4-0-13-1 is a mighty big effort from Sir. Quicker one outside off, just a little bit of space there as Pathan gets back and guides it past backward point for a boundary.
Dwayne Bravo is back on.
14.1 : D Bravo to C Brathwaite, Slower one down the leg side, Carlos tries to flick but misses. Goes off his pads to short fine leg, no run taken although the West Indian was interested initially.
14.2 : D Bravo to C Brathwaite, Wide! This one is well down the leg side and is wided by the official.
D Bravo to C Brathwaite, Continues to be on the pads, Bravo. This one is eased behind square leg for a run.
14.3 : D Bravo to Y Pathan, Quicker and fuller on middle, it's flicked through mid-wicket for one.
14.4 : D Bravo to C Brathwaite, The batsman has pushed it to the cover region. One run added to the total.
14.5 : D Bravo to Y Pathan, FOUR! Brutal! That's Pathan power for you! Fetches a short delivery from outside off and whacks it through the line. The sweeper cover rushes across to his right but has no chance.
14.6 : D Bravo to Y Pathan, OUT! Goodness me, that's a bullet which Bravo has caught. Unreal stuff from the West Indian. He pitches this one up and outside off, Yusuf goes hard at it and smacks it right back. It's uppish and Bravo shows excellent reflexes to grab it by catching the low chance stupendously well. Tumbles in the process but immediately gets up and starts to dance in the same rhythm. He must have hands of steel, showing no effects of taking a ball travelling at the speed of light. Yu
Bhuvneshwar Kumar is in next. Meanwhile, Lungi Ngidi is back into the attack as well.
15.1 : L Ngidi to C Brathwaite, Slower one, short and around off, Brathwaite dabs it down to third man for a run.
15.2 : L Ngidi to B Kumar, Tries defending it from the crease but gets it away off the bottom edge.
15.3 : L Ngidi to B Kumar, Played to the point region by the batsman. They pick up a single.
15.4 : L Ngidi to C Brathwaite, Steams in and lets out a good length delivery in the channel outside off, 136.5 kph, Brathwaite feels for it inside the line and misses.
15.5 : L Ngidi to C Brathwaite, The batsman guides it to third man. One run added to the total.
15.6 : L Ngidi to B Kumar, Length ball angling into the batsman, Kumar taps it down towards cover-point and scampers across for a single.
16.1 : D Bravo to B Kumar, Wide! This one is full and angled down the leg side, the batsman tries to flick but misses.
D Bravo to B Kumar, Another wide, however, the bowler was interested in appealing for a caught behind. A touch short and shaping down the leg side, Kumar tries to flick but misses. Dhoni collects but no real appeal from his side. The replays detect the involvement of some part of the batsman's trouser.
D Bravo to B Kumar, Slower one, on middle and leg, Bhuvneshwar eases it behind square leg and picks up a single.
16.2 : D Bravo to C Brathwaite, Good stop at point! Shortish and outside off, Brathwaite cracks it square of the wicket on the off side, his attempt was to go wide of the fielder but Harbhajan stationed there does well to stop the racing ball. Cannot prevent the single.
16.3 : D Bravo to B Kumar, A touch short and on off, defended off the back foot.
16.4 : D Bravo to B Kumar, A lovely slower ball wide outside off, Bhuvneshwar throws his heart and soul on it but gets beaten by the slowness of the ball.
16.5 : D Bravo to B Kumar, Short in length this time, around off, Kumar gets on top of the bounce and pulls it to deep mid-wicket. Jadeja moves across swiftly to his left, picks up the ball and immediately releases it towards the bowler's end. No chance for the second run. Brilliant stuff. These are the little things you do on the field to keep the entire team motivated.
16.6 : D Bravo to C Brathwaite, Another nicely executed yorker, around off, Carlos digs it out on the leg side and crosses.
17.1 : S Thakur to C Brathwaite, SIX! A length delivery on middle and leg, right in the arc for the West Indian, Carlos swings his big bat and muscles it over mid-wicket for a biggie. That's thumped!
17.2 : S Thakur to C Brathwaite, SIX! Another one which has travelled miles in the stand. The West Indian is opening his arms now. Thakur goes short around off and Brathwaite picks up the length quite early. Packs a punch and nails his pull over mid-wicket for a maximum. Pressure on the bowler for sure. Momentum shift?
17.3 : S Thakur to C Brathwaite, Smart bowling. Stays away from the hitting region of Brathwaite. Goes full and wide outside off, Carlos tries to be cheeky with a paddle scoop probably but fails to make any connection.
17.4 : S Thakur to C Brathwaite, Once again keeps it very full and outside off, it's driven with top power to long off for a single.
17.5 : S Thakur to B Kumar, A mistimed shot! Shortish and outside off, Kumar goes hard at it but gets it away from the top half of his bat. It flies but goes safely to long off. A single taken.
17.6 : S Thakur to C Brathwaite, Wide! This one is very wide outside off, on a fuller length, Brathwaite lets it go.
S Thakur to C Brathwaite, Too full and outside off, Carlos goes hard at it and smashes it over covers. It falls safely in the deep and they take the second run as Harbhajan fires in a flat throw to the keeper. Dhoni again tries to deflect it onto the stumps but misses. Anyway, the West Indian would have been home.
Lungi Ngidi to bowl his last over.
18.1 : L Ngidi to B Kumar, Slower in pace and full outside off, 121.8 kph, Kumar throws his bat at it and gets it away off the inner portion of the bat. It rolls down to long on and they cross.
18.2 : L Ngidi to C Brathwaite, Play and a miss! Good length ball angling into the batsman, around off at 134.8 kph, Brathwaite shuffles across the stumps with an attempted paddle scoop but fails to make any connection. When you got so much power, why not back your strength and go downtown...
18.3 : L Ngidi to C Brathwaite, On a shortish length on off, Brathwaite deflects it down to third man and picks up a single.
18.4 : L Ngidi to B Kumar, Swing and a miss. Bhuvneshwar winds up for a big shot over the leg side but is beaten for pace. That's not his forte, he should be looking to rotate the strike and hand it back to the big West Indian.
18.5 : L Ngidi to B Kumar, Shortish and outside off, Kumar flat-bats it over covers and it goes on one bounce to the fielder in the deep. A single taken.
18.6 : L Ngidi to C Brathwaite, Width on offer outside off, Carlos runs it down to third man and keeps strike for the next over with a run.
Shardul Thakur to bowl the last over.
19.1 : S Thakur to C Brathwaite, Hits the yorker mark outside off, Brathwaite digs it out to covers and denies the single. Hmmm...
19.2 : S Thakur to C Brathwaite, Wide! Too full and very wide outside off, Brathwaite swishes and misses. The reason he didn't get his bat on ball was his entire weight was on his back leg.
S Thakur to C Brathwaite, A miscued paddle scoop has travelled to deep mid-wicket and they take a couple. It went off the toe end of the bat, showed the replays.
19.3 : S Thakur to C Brathwaite, SIX! High and handsome! Thakur aims for the blockhole but ends up serving a full toss outside off, Brathwaite dismisses it from his sight and clears mid-wicket with ease.
19.4 : S Thakur to C Brathwaite, FOUR! Boom! Too full and wide outside off, once again Carlos has his weight on the back leg but does well with his extension of arms. Connects superbly and sends it rocketing to the deep cover fence.
19.5 : S Thakur to C Brathwaite, Wide! Sliding down the leg side, on a shortish length, Brathwaite swings and misses.
S Thakur to C Brathwaite, SIX! All power! He is a powerhouse! We know that. Windies know that. Eden Gardens knows that. Ben Stokes also knows that. This one is short and wide outside off, Brathwaite latches onto it and launches it over the bowler's head.
19.6 : S Thakur to C Brathwaite, OUT! Run out to end proceedings. Short one by Thakur, well-directed, Carlos tries to pull but misses. They attempt to steal a bye but Dhoni scores a direct hit after collecting the ball. Kumar is well short and HYDERABAD END ON 139/7!
20 runs in the final over and the 51-run stand between Carlos Brathwaite and Bhuvneshwar Kumar have provided some respectability to Hyderabad's total. Although, they have managed a below par total, the momentum currently is with them. Carlos Brathwaite certainly reminded everyone about his name and if Hyderabad manage to pull off a win today - the Indian T20 League will surely 'Remember the name!'
It was a dismal batting show by Hyderabad in this pressure game. Their top order got blown away while the middle order once again failed to step up. The Chennai bowlers were stupendous and overall their game plan was to the T. The use of bowlers from MS Dhoni was simply brilliant and everyone looked charged up for this encounter. They were so much on song that Dhoni didn't even feel the need to bowl his most experienced bowler, Harbhajan Singh. Dwayne Bravo was the standout performer and the res
The target is quite low considering the history of this venue but in a crunch game like this, anything is possible. Hyderabad are a team possessing one of the best bowling attacks and they are quite able to defend this total.
0.0 : We are back for the chase. Chennai have a below par target to chase down, as Shane Watson and Faf du Plessis stride out to the middle. Bhuvneshwar Kumar will open with the ball. His spell in the Powerplay will be key. A slip in place for him...
0.1 : B Kumar to S Watson, Play and a miss first up! Fuller delivery, swinging away a bit, Watson leans ahead to defend it with a straight bat but the ball moves away and whizzes past the outside edge of his bat.
0.2 : B Kumar to S Watson, Huge shout for an LBW! After an outswinger, Bhuvi brings this one back in sharply, Watson is quick to go back and luckily for him he gets an inside edge on the back pad.
0.3 : B Kumar to S Watson, Slightly ahead of a length outside off, neatly punched towards cover.
0.4 : B Kumar to S Watson, Drops it a touch short and serves it outside off, Watson punches it towards mid off.
0.5 : B Kumar to S Watson, OUT! Bhuvi finds the edge and it's given! Big blow to Chennai as they lose Watson for a duck! What a delivery, absolute peach! Kumar lands it on a length around that off stump channel, Watson with minimal feet movement has a tame poke at it. The ball moves away ever so slightly, takes the outer half and Goswami behind the stumps makes no mistake. Perfect start for Hyderabad in the chase.
Suresh Raina is the new man in.
0.6 : B Kumar to S Raina, Fuller and curling back in on middle, Raina clips it off the pads through square leg for a single to end the first over. Just a single and a wicket off it.
Sandeep Sharma to bowl from the other end.
1.1 : S Sharma to S Raina, FOUR! Full and wide outside off, Raina reaches out to it and hits it a bit square past cover-point for a boundary.
1.2 : S Sharma to S Raina, FOUR! Raina off to a flying start! A lot of swing here from Sandeep, fuller outside off, it's creamed through the covers off the front foot for another boundary.
1.3 : S Sharma to S Raina, FOUR! Three in a row! This is exceptional batting from Suresh Raina. Sandeep keeps it full and just outside off, it's driven down the ground, past mid off for a boundary.
1.4 : S Sharma to S Raina, Good length delivery outside the line of off stump, left alone for the keeper to collect.
1.5 : S Sharma to S Raina, Fraction straight on middle and leg, worked away on the leg side.
1.6 : S Sharma to S Raina, On the pads this time, whipped down to fine leg for an easy run. 13 off the over.
2.1 : B Kumar to S Raina, Back of a length on off stump, Raina hops across and with a little swivel, controls the pull to deep square leg for a couple.
2.2 : B Kumar to S Raina, Nudged square again on the leg side for a single. It finally brings Faf du Plessis on strike who will face his first ball of the chase.

Ambati Rayudu walks into the middle next.
3.4 : S Kaul to A Rayudu, OUT! Gozunder! Siddarth Kaul on a hat-trick. What an unreal delivery to dismiss the prolific Ambati Rayudu. Couldn't do a single thing about that. It's a terrific yorker, swings away late and does enough to beat the outside edge of the bat. The ball crashes into the furniture and Hyderabad are right in this game now.
MS Dhoni is the new man in and he will face the hat-trick ball.
3.5 : S Kaul to MS Dhoni, No hat-trick for Kaul. Full on off, Dhoni is careful as he pushes this out off the front foot.

11.1 : R Khan to du Plessis, A bit short and on off, Faf gets back and works it through mid-wicket for a single.
11.2 : R Khan to D Bravo, OUT! Rashid Khan strikes again! What a bowler! The Afghan jalebi consumes the West Indian entertainer! A leg spinner, landing short outside off and turning away, Bravo spots the chance to slap it over the off side but doesn't account for the spin. The long off fielder in the meantime overran there and had no chance of cutting it off either.
13.6 : Al Hasan to du Plessis, SIX! The South African is breaking the shackles. Gets a full delivery in his half, gives it the full whack of his bat and sends it whistling over the rope at long on. 14 from the over.
Strategic break. 60 needed off 36 balls. This is still doable if Faf du Plessis gets some support from the other end. Hyderabad cannot afford to take the foot off the pedal. It's a pretty notorious format and the moment you relax, unexpected things happen.
14.1 : S Sharma to D Chahar, SIX! Chahar has pulled this one out of screws. Anticipates the shortish ball and goes through with the swing of his bat. Not quite from the middle of the bat but still it has enough to fly over the fence. The umpire signals a biggie after getting the confirmation from upstairs.

Deepak Chahar has holed out in the deep to Carlos Brathwaite. Though, the umpire isn't sure if the catch is taken cleanly or not. It's taken upstairs. The soft signal is out.
14.6 : S Sharma to D Chahar, OUT! It's a clean catch! Sandeep arrows in a fuller length ball, on middle, Chahar swings his bat across the line, although with limited followthrough of the bat, you can call it half-helicopter and as a result, the ball also flies only half the distance. It loops towards long on where Brathwaite comes running in forward and across to take a low catch. However, he is not too sure whether he has taken it cleanly or not and the umpires go upstairs. The soft signal is ou
Harbhajan Singh will be the next batsman in. He didn't get to bowl a single ball in the first innings, can he make an impact with the bat?
Review taken. It's for an lbw decision against Faf du Plessis. The Protea has taken it upstairs, thinking it's going down leg. Let's see now...
15.1 : R Khan to du Plessis, Not out, it's missing the leg stump! Rashid's well-disguised googly ain't picked by du Plessis. He leans forward to defend but is beaten to get rapped on the pads. The appeal is upheld but Faf quickly takes the DRS. The replays confirm what I said earlier. Turning too much and missing the leg pole. Hyderabad trying to build relentless pressure now.
15.2 : R Khan to du Plessis, Flighted and on off, driven through the line towards mid off for a run.

17.3 : C Brathwaite to du Plessis, SIX! Fifty for Faf, talk about the timing of this innings. His team is down and almost out but the Protea is refusing to give up. Fetches a length ball from the middle and leg stump line and deposits it into the mid-wicket stand.
17.4 : C Brathwaite to du Plessis, FOUR! Chennai are up and running! The change of pace has not worked here. It's on the shorter side and du Plessis pulls it off the inner half of the bat. It beats short fine leg to his left and speeds away to the fence.
Appeal for a run out! Harbhajan Singh seems to be in danger here while attempting the second run.
17.5 : C Brathwaite to du Plessis, OUT! Harbhajan is short! The delivery is full and outside off, once again du Plessis drills it to deep extra cover and this time there is a fielder positioned there. Rashid Khan it is and he dives to make the stop. Then, he stands up to fire a flat throw to the bowler who takes the bails off. They appeal and the umpire goes upstairs. The replays find Harbhajan Singh short of the crease. Also, Rashid Khan seems to have hurt himself and is receiving some medical a
Shardul Thakur comes out next.

18.2 : S Kaul to S Thakur, FOUR! Another streaky boundary, the crowd here in Mumbai is loving it. The famous Chinese cut. Unintentional, of course. S Kaul to du Plessis, Goes back and punches it through covers for one.
18.5 : S Kaul to S Thakur, Very full and around off, Thakur drills it down to long off and rushes back for the second run. The throw comes to the bowler who fails to collect it as du Plessis whizzes past the crease. Great running.
18.6 : S Kaul to S Thakur, FOUR! Shardul Thakur, the Mumbai lad, is doing it! Kaul delivers it full and on middle, Shardul smashes it straight down the ground and the long on fielder has no chance of cutting it off. He is playing a gem. Remember, he was taken for 20 runs in his last over while bowling and this is the best possible way to pay back.
6 needed off 6 balls. Bhuvneshwar Kumar to bowl. Faf du Plessis will be on strike.
19.1 : B Kumar to du Plessis, SIX! Faf du Plessis has finished the game in one blow! Kumar relies on his slower knuckle delivery first up, drops it on a length around off but Faf picks it up and lofts it nonchalantly over the bowler's head for a maximum. The South African raises his hands in triumph as his teammates come running from the dugout. Emotions pouring out in the middle as the players in yellow are jumping and hugging each other. What a win! What a game! Chennai win by 2 wickets and are
What a game. Chennai have defeated Hyderabad for the third time this season to storm into the finals. Ambati Rayudu did one over them twice, and now, it's Faf du Plessis who becomes the star of the show. Talk about the perfect timing to find some form. Chennai lost their way early chasing 140, and were staring down the barrel of a defeat. Things almost slipped out of their hands till that Carlos Brathwaite over in the 18th, where 23 runs were scored from it by Faf. That completely changed the ti
Hyderabad were maybe 15-20 runs short. Though, despite that, they were exceptional with the ball tonight. Started off well, restricted Chennai to 62/6 and were right on top, but such is this format where the margin for error is less. The Brathwaite over stole the momentum from them. Siddarth Kaul too got taken for runs in the next over, thereby seeing them miss out. Rashid Khan in particular was the standout performer, conceding just 11 runs and picking up 2 wickets in his spell. Earlier in the
Kane Williamson is disappointed and says that the trip to Kolkata will be interesting. Adds that they were short by a few runs. Praises his bowlers and feels that the game swung in their way but then is quick to admit that they weren't at their best towards the end. Feels that most times they would have defended that total but credits the lower order of Chennai. Hopes that they will learn from this game and move to the next match. Lauds the knock of Faf du Plessis and reckons it's going to be ha
MS Dhoni is smiling and says that when you are on top it gives you the liberty to lose and even if they would have lost, they would have got the second chance. Adds that they bowled really well and there was something in it for the bowlers which even Bhuvneshwar got and was nicely backed by Rashid Khan. Admits that they kept losing wickets and that's why they had to push themselves towards the end. Feels it all happens in the knockout stages and wants his team to learn from this experience and k
Faf du Plessis gets the Man of the Match award! Says that it's nice to make a contribution tonight. Adds that last night he was reflecting on the game that he played in Mumbai and took confidence from that. Says that when you are out there batting, you focus on batting till the end and hope something special happens. Mentions about Shardul Thakur who came in and hit a few boundaries. Feels the wicket was not easy to bat on and credits Hyderabad for bowling really well. Has a word of praise for R
What a game, ladies and gents! Chennai make an inspirational comeback from the jaws of defeat and plunge themselves into their 7th Indian T20 League final. Kolkata and Rajasthan will face off in it on 23rd May, at 1900 local (1330 GMT). You don't want to miss it. See you folks then!
