Rajasthan vs Delhi Daredevils Live Commentary, Match 6, Indian Premier League, 2018, April 11, 2018

RR 153/5 (17.5)
Rajasthan Royals beat Delhi Daredevils by 10 runs (D/L method)
DD 60/4 (6)
Match over
0.0 : After getting humbled in their first game, Rajasthan will hope they have their plans sort out for today. Cricket has returned to their original city, Jaipur, after many years and they will try and make the Sawai Mansingh Stadium their fortress once again. The blues will have the home crowd behind them today and they will pray that their big guns, Ben Stokes, D'Arcy Short etc. come to the party.
On the flip side, Delhi were blown away by some brilliant Powerplay hitting by KL Rahul. They had a good outing in their first day but could not get the better of their opponents. Skipper Gambhir stroked his way to a good fifty and the others in the wings will look to follow him. Should be a good game as both teams will look to get their monkey off their backs. Join us in a while for the toss and other formalities.
Pitch Report - Michael Slater doing the pitch report says the length will be crucial. Goes on to say that the average score in ODIs here has been 300 and even that has been chased. Adds there is a green top and the curators are trying to get the ball to carry through. Ends by saying that it's a pleasant evening and it will make for a good game of cricket.
Toss - Delhi win the toss and will have a bowl first!
Gautam Gambhir says the wicket won't change much through the game, so chasing is the best decision. Mentions that Glenn Maxwell coming back is a huge plus for them, so just wants to get the combination right and settled. Mentions there are two changes - Glenn Maxwell comes in for Dan Christian and Shahbaz Nadeem is in for Amit Mishra.
Ajinkya Rahane says that since the toss can't be controlled, he doesn't mind batting first. Adds it looks a good track, so win or lose the team has to give it their all. States his team has adjusted to the conditions well and the players are quite experienced. Ends by letting everyone know there are no changes in his side.
Match 6 of the Indian T20 league and we are ready for action. The umpires have made their presence out in the middle and Ajinkya Rahane along with D'Arcy Short have taken their guards. The clock is ticking on the giant screen and Trent Boult is about to deliver the first ball. A slip in place. 'Let's play' shouts the umpire!

Nadeem gives this air on middle, Short works it with soft hands towards mid-wicket. They take the first run quickly and then Rahane wanted the second run badly. D'Arcy was hesitaint about it and a direct hit from Shankar in the deep meant that Short was well short of his crease. An early wicket for Delhi!

1.4 : S Nadeem to A Rahane, Rahane finds the man at mid-wicket. Dot ball.

A little FYI - This is the 6th game of the 2018 Indian T20 League and it's the 6th time the captain winning the toss has elected to field. And, all the game won so far have been by the teams chasing. Will the same pattern be followed tonight?

There's a slight drizzle to be seen. And would you look at that? The covers are on in no time. The speed has picked up and it's coming down rather heavily now. Unreal. Happened so quickly and out of nowhere. PLAY HAS BEEN SUSPENDED for the time being.
Update 2125 local time - Well, this is something unexpected. The skies were clear before the game and everything looked fine for a good game to progress. But, we have been made to think twice by the rain gods. Let us give you a quick recap of what's gone down so far - Rajasthan, after being made to bat, lost D'Arcy Short early. Ben Stokes was sent up the order, but that plan failed as the English all-rounder was dismissed rather early. Sanju Samson joined forces with his skipper and stroked a 62
Update 2136 local time - THE RAIN HAS STOPPED. That was quick. The covers are already coming off. This is good news. Play should begin any time now...
Update 2139 local time - Scratch that last update. THE RAIN IS BACK. Just as the groundstaff was taking the covers off the field, it starting pouring down again. It's coming down quite hard too.
Update 2206 local time - JAI-POUR!!! No change from the last update as it continues to spit heavily... Just as I thought I would be heading home early tonight.
Update 2218 local time - The rain has started to ease out and the covers are slowly coming off. We hope it stays like this. For now, the news is that the inspection will be at 2240 IST.
Update 2230 local time - HEY! HEY! Get the covers back on, mate! No, I have not gone bonkers. But just writing what I just saw as a groundstaff was furiously shouting to his partner. It was a nice scenic view first up. The ground was buzzing. Two ex-Aussie mates - Warne and Ponting were chatting and smiling. Then more Aussie guys got together giving us the festive atmosphere as it usually is in Melbourne or Sydney. The umpires were then walking across the ground, not quite happy with the amount
Update 2243 local time - Like it has done previously, the rain keeps playing games with us. It has stopped for now. The covers, though are still on. While the umpires are out in the middle having a chat, the players enjoy a game of football at the sidelines. The next inspection now will be at 2300 IST.
Update 2251 local time - Remember those days? Well if you are still playing then it is not THOSE days but for people like me who rely mostly on childhood memories, it is a bit of a nostalgia. The music starts, then we run around, eagerly anticipating when the music will stop so that we can sit on a chair. Seems more or less here right now. The music has stopped and the rain is back. Continue whatever you are doing...
Update 2302 local time - We have passed yet another inspection deadline. The rain continues to be stubborn and pour. Along with the crowd noise, we can also hear it thundering.
Update 2321 local time - It looks better now but the covers are still on. The cut-off time is 0002 IST. If the game isn't resumed by then, the match will be called off.
Update 2345 local time - Good news! The word is out and PLAY WILL RESUME at 2355 IST.
So we have it! The revised target is of 71 with a 6-over game to happen. The advantage might be with Delhi. There will be 2 overs Powerplay, with 3 bowlers that can bowl 2 overs each. 10 wickets in hand, can they do it? Or will Rajasthan be able to hold them off somehow?

A run out decision against Colin Munro is taken upstairs. Looks to be gone. Let's see what happens here...
0.1 : K Gowtham to G Maxwell, OUT! Munro is run out! Wicket off the very first ball! Absolute frenzy out there. Flat and quick on the pads, Maxwell looks to pull it away hard on the leg side but fails to connect. It goes off his pads on the leg side, Buttler runs to the ball as Munro is off for the run. The keeper turns and throws it quickly to Gowtham. He turns and takes the bails off. He knows he's got his man, but the umpire just wants to be sure. Replays show Munro is out of here.

1.3 : D Kulkarni to R Pant, Wide! Fires it too wide outside off, goes across the tramline and that's a wide.
D Kulkarni to R Pant, Smacked hard but straight to mid off. Length delivery seaming away from around off, Rishabh Pant smashes this right off the meat, but finds the fielder, much to his misfortune.

2.4 : J Unadkat to G Maxwell, FOUR! Streaky runs but he'll take it! Full and wide outside off, Maxwell swings, connects, but off the edge. It's enough to take it over short third man and away to the fence.
2.5 : J Unadkat to G Maxwell, SIX! He connects well this time. Been trying to do that all over, finally manages to get it right. Full and wide outside off, angling away, Maxwell goes a step across, keeps his eyes locked on the ball and then with a massive swing of his bat, smokes it over the long on boundary. Maximum.
2.6 : J Unadkat to G Maxwell, FOUR! Maxwell on the charge here! Wide outside off and full in length, this time Maxwell carves this away over point and sends it thrashing into the ad boards across the rope. 14 off the over. Delhi need 42 to win in 18 balls.
Ben Laughlin is called on to bowl.

3.4 : Ben Laughlin to G Maxwell, OUT! Edged and taken! Glenn Maxwell departs! Ben Laughlin doing the trick for his side. It's the cutter once again, touch fuller on off, Maxwell makes room, comes down the track and attempts to go big downtown. Only manages an edge which is taken comfortably by Jos Buttler behind the stumps. 37 needed in 14 balls.
Chris Morris is the new man in.
3.5 : Ben Laughlin to C Morris, Swing and a miss! Outside off, slightly fuller in length, Morris stays leg side to crash it over the off side. Doesn't connect at all as the keeper collects it.
3.6 : Ben Laughlin to C Morris, Too full, around off, this time Morris connects. Drills it through the covers for a double.
4.1 : J Unadkat to R Pant, In the air again but it falls short. Slower one, on a length, cutting back in. Rishabh Pant swings too early and lofts it over mid-wicket. Ben Stokes comes in from the deep but it's too far away from him. A single taken by the batsmen.
4.2 : J Unadkat to C Morris, FOUR! Full delivery angling wide outside off, Morris walks a step across, uses the angle and carves it across the third man boundary. Smart batting. 30 needed off 10.

4.4 : J Unadkat to R Pant, FOUR! Works with the angle as it's coming into him, Pant swings and gives it all he's got. May not be the best of connections, but it's enough to go across the fence on the bounce.
4.5 : J Unadkat to R Pant, Fired wide down leg, Pant tries to be cheeky with a reverse sweep. Doesn't connect, takes one on the pads and it's a dot ball. Skipper Gautam Gambhir doesn't seem too impressed with that choice of shot.
4.6 : J Unadkat to R Pant, OUT! A good catch from Gowtham! Very good catch. Third wicket down in the form of Rishabh Pant. Fuller ball on leg, slightly slower in pace. Pant gets underneath it and swings. A lot of height, not much distance, and Gowtham comes running in from fine leg to take a fine catch diving forward.
Vijay Shankar to be the next man in to bat.

5.2 : Ben Laughlin to C Morris, There's a change-up from Laughlin. Excellent delivery. Bangs it short, takes Chris Morris by surprise. The Protea is in no position to play the pull shot. A rain-hit affair which went on late into the night, but one which Rajasthan eventually managed to clinch. They succumbed to the occasion and the away team couldn't get over the line, despite all the pow
Earlier in the day, a good anchoring knock from skipper Ajinkya Rahane, followed by some explosive hitting from Sanju Samson, Rahul Tripathi and Jos Buttler got Rajasthan to a total, which after the DLS method, proved too much for the travelling side.

So that's it from this rainy encounter. Even though it's late, the crowd goes back with a smile on its face as it got to witness some cricketing action. Rajasthan bag their first win of the competition. Delhi lost another one, but they wouldn't be beating themselves up too much over this. Was a difficult task with the rain interfering. Well, done with this, but there's more action tomorrow as Hyderabad welcome Mumbai at 2000 IST. Do tune in for that. Cheers!
