The hosts never really going apart from the stand between Niall O'Brien and Ed Joyce which steadied their ship only for a while. Once the southphaw departed, they lost 3 wickets in quick succession and lost the plot. Dockrell and McCarthy helped them crawl their way to 181.
Bangladesh with the depth in their batting would fancy themselves to chase this score down. That is as comprehensive a chase can get. The bulk of the work was done by the Bangladesh bowlers early on when they bundled out Ireland for 181. In the chase, Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar gave the visitors a flying start with a 95-run opening stand. The former and the new man, Sabbir Rahman fell in pursuit of quick runs but Sarkar played through to ensure his side got the vital four points.
Ireland will be disappointed with their effort today. Their batting didn't click and the bowlers had no impact whatsoever. They often claim for more games against good sides but if this is how they are going to perform, they are only making things more difficult for themselves.
Ireland skipper, William Porterfield feels that they did not have enough runs on the board and it cost them the game. Rues the fact that they did not have partnerships. Admits that there were a lot of soft dismissals in the game. Hopes that they bring out their A-game against New Zealand and do much better with the bat.
Bangladesh skipper, Mashrafe Mortaza says that you always enjoy winning. Feels that they got early wickets which was important and with the bat their openers gave them a perfect start. Credits Sarkar and Iqbal for batting well. Feels that Mustafizur Rahman has been a very good bowler for them in the last few years.
