5.2 : 5.2: I Sharma to Jennings, OUT! FIRST WICKET AFTER A LONG BREAK FOR ISHANT! Full and wide delivery outside off, Jennings tries to push it towards the off side but he gets an outside edge which goes straight in the hands of Parthiv Patel who grabs an easy one. Good start for the Indians.
6.5 : 6.5: U Yadav to Joe Root, FOUR! TOP SHOT! Pitched a bit short outside off, Root stays back and cuts it through the backward point region for the first boundary of the day. Brilliant shot to get off the mark.
10.4 : 10.4: R Jadeja to Cook, FOUR! COUNTER PUNCH! Cook this time gets in line of the ball to drive it through mid off for a really well timed boundary. That was a really good shot.
12.4: R Jadeja to A Cook, OUT! JADEJA HAS HIS BUNNY! Pitched outside off, Cook strides forward to defend it but the ball flies off the outside edge towards Kohli who is standing at first slip for an easy take. Jadeja and Kohli seem very happy to get the ever struggling Cook.
13.3 : 13.3: U Yadav to Joe Root, LUCKY FOUR! A bit short into the body, the ball flies from the outside edge between the first and wide second slip. If there was a fielder at second slip then it would have been taken easily.
15.4 : 15.4: U Yadav to Root, FOUR! Again a yorker, but this time outside off. Root just opens the face of the bat to guide it towards third man for a boundary.
21.1 : 21.1: A Mishra to Joe Root, FOUR! EASY PICKINGS! Pitched short by Mishra, Root camps back and pulls it towards the mid-wicket region for a boundary.
23.1: A Mishra to Root, FOUR! Superb shot! Always tough to hit a leggie against the spin but Root's done it really well. Flighted around off, gets across and slog sweeps it powerfully past mid-wicket for a boundary. Rahul stationed there didn't pick it up at all as the ball whizzed past him to the ropes.
30.5 : 30.5: R Ashwin to Ali, FOUR! Top shot! Floated around off, Ali gets across and sweeps it hard through square leg. Rolled his wrists to keep it along the ground and it sped away to the ropes. Nicely executed stroke.
33.1 : 33.1: R Jadeja to Ali, FOUR! Floated around off, Ali gets across to that one and sweeps it hard to the deep mid-wicket fence for a boundary. Positive stuff from the southpaw after lunch.
35.4 : 35.4: R Jadeja to Root, FOUR! Fab shot! Floated around off, slog sweeps it away through mid-wicket for a boundary. Positive stroke and that's the mini milestone for the English vice-captain. It's been a typical Joe Root innings - full on tempo.
35.6 : 35.6: R Jadeja to Root, FOUR! Superb batting this. Root is taking on Jadeja. Sees this flighted around off and he uses his reach to take it on the full. Nails the sweep past mid-wicket for another boundary. This will be a riveting contest for sure.
36.4 : 36.4: R Ashwin to Root, FOUR! Shot! Flighted outside off, Root charges down the track and lifts it over mid on with the spin. Nice shot and finds the boundary with ease.
42.5 : 42.5: R Ashwin to Root, FOUR! Floated outside off, Root gets across to that one and sweeps it hard to the deep square leg fence for a boundary. His sweep shots have been really bang on target today. Superb batting!
44.6 : 44.6: R Ashwin to Ali, FOUR! Superb shot! Floated on middle and off, Ali gets across and nails the sweep past mid-wicket for a boundary. Both batsmen have dealt with the spinners very positively after lunch and it's worked so far.
45.6: A Mishra to Ali, FOUR! Nimble footwork! Floated on middle and leg, steps out to that one and whips it away cleanly over mid-wicket to find the fence. This is very smart batting, they don't want to let Mishra settle.
48.5 : 48.5: R Jadeja to Root, FOUR! Terrific shot! Floated outside off, Root fetches it and drags it with a superb sweep through mid-wicket to find the fence. This is brilliant batting against spin. He goes into the 80s with this boundary.
49.5: A Mishra to Ali, FOUR! Nice stroke! Flighted outside off, fuller in length and Ali reaches to the pitch before unleashing a fine drive through the right of mid off. Not an easy shot to play against the leggie but he did really well there.
51.5: A Mishra to Ali, FOUR! Up and over! Floated outside off, Ali steps out and launches this over mid off to find the fence. Didn't connect it completely but had enough meat on it to get it over the infield.
54.3 : 54.3: R Jadeja to Root, OUT! GOT HIM! What a review from India! Massive wicket this is. Floated outside off, Root goes for the sweep and Patel takes it really well behind the stumps. Huge appeal for caught behind, especially from Kohli but turned down. The skipper has a chat with Patel and Jadeja before going for the review. Ultra Edge spots a slight nick as the ball passes the bat and the blade isn't hitting ground at that point either. The third umpire is convinced enough and asks the on-fiel
58.6 : 58.6: R Jadeja to Bairstow, SIX! Smoked! Confident shot from Jonny. This was floated on middle and off, he just cleared his front leg and slammed it comfortably down the ground over long on for a maximum. Shot of a man in top form. Leading run scorer in Tests this year by a mile and has also looked fairly comfortable in this series too.
63.4 : 63.4: R Ashwin to Ali, FOUR! Top shot! Floated on off, Ali displays positive footwork as he charges down the track to loft it cleanly down the ground. One bounce to the fence for a boundary.
66.1 : 66.1: R Jadeja to Bairstow, SIX! Hammered! That made a cracking sound off the bat. Floated on off, Bairstow gets down on one knee and mauls the slog sweep cleanly over deep mid-wicket for a maximum. Brilliant stroke.
67.2 : 67.2: R Ashwin to Bairstow, SIX! Another biggie for Bairstow. He has been totally aggressive today. Flighted outside off, Bairstow unleashes another slog sweep over mid-wicket. Terrific contact and the fact that he hit it with the spin made it easy as the ball sails over the ropes.
71.4 : 71.4: R Ashwin to Ali, FOUR! Powered away! Fullish outside off, pushed through quicker and Ali bludgeons the drive through the covers to find the fence. Struck it really well and found the gap to perfection although Rahul could have been sharper.
80.6 : 80.6: R Jadeja to J Bairstow, OUT! Straight to the fielder! Jadeja strikes and Bairstow misses out on a half century. Jadeja bowls a loopy delivery around off, Bairstow comes forward to drive it on the up. Doesn't bother to keep it down and ends up spooning a dolly to KL Rahul at short extra cover. That was a tame dismissal and Jonny is absolutely livid with himself. He bangs his bat on the ground and doesn't want to leave the crease but will have to.
83.4 : 83.4: A Mishra to Ali, FOUR! Creamed it! What a shot! Flighted again and around off, Moeen gets down the track and drives it beautifully through covers for a boundary. That split that gap really well and now Ali is just one short of a ton here.
85.3 : 85.3: I Sharma to Ali, FOUR! Fuller and wide outside off, too easy for Ali. He sits down and throws his bat at it. Gets it past Rahul at point for a boundary.
85.4 : 85.4: I Sharma to Ali, FOUR! In the air... safe! Back-to-back boundaries for Moeen Ali! Fuller in length and outside off, Ali plays a lazy drive towards covers. It was in the air but evades Pujara easily to find the fence.
87.2 : 87.2: I Sharma to M Ali, FOUR! Edged and away! Fuller in length and outside off, Ali looks to drive it away from the body but gets an inside edge past the stumps towards fine leg for a boundary. Runs coming thick and fast the moment for England.
90.5 : 90.5: R Ashwin to Stokes, OUT! ANOTHER BUNNY SPOTTED! Tossed up really well outside off, Stokes comes in line of the ball to drive but the ball goes straight to the keeper after getting a faint edge on its way. Ashwin gets a wicket in the first over of the day. He seems to have an advantage over Stokes just like Jadeja has an advantage over Cook.
95.6 : 95.6: Sharma to Buttler, OUT! PLUMB! A really good incoming delivery which was pitched up, Buttler tries to shuffle across and flick it through the on side but he is unable to make contact. A loud appeal from the players and the umpire after thinking a bit raises his finger. Buttler gestures at Ali for the review but the latter informs him that is dead plumb. Jos has to go. Ishant gets rewarded for his impeccable line and England have again lost their batsmen in quick succession.
96.3 : 96.3: R Ashwin to Ali, SIX! Down the track and away she goes! Ashwin slows it through the air around off, Moeen Ali senses an opportunity here. He skips down the track and wallops it for a flat maximum over long off. Really good hit, that.
96.6 : 96.6: R Ashwin to Ali, FOUR! Ho! Ho! Ho! Where did that come from? What a shot that is. Fuller on middle and leg, Ali stays put and just whips it through mid-wicket. Through the gap and it sped away to the fence for a boundary.
103.4 : 103.4: U Yadav to Ali, OUT! THAT'S A TRAP! Dug in short again, Moeen tries to pull it but is unable to get the elevation there and the ball goes up in the air. Jadeja who was standing at deep mid-wicket goes a bit towards his left to gather an easy catch. Ali has to depart after a good knock of 146 runs. No certified batsmen left.
105.6 : 105.6: U Yadav to Dawson, FOUR! GETS IT AWAY FINE! Full on the pads, Dawson shuffles across a bit and glances it deftly down to the fine leg fence for a boundary. Neat deflection from the debutant on that occasion.
108.5 : 108.5: R Ashwin to Dawson, FOUR! GOOD SHOT! Carrom ball outside off, Dawson reads it quickly to stay in line of the ball and punch it through the cover region for a well timed boundary.
118.1 : 118.1: A Mishra to Dawson, FOUR! That's come after a long time. Pitched outside off and Dawson drives it strongly along the ground through the cover region for a boundary.
125.1: U Yadav to A Rashid, FOUR! Edged but safe! Handy runs these for England. Full and outside off, Rashid goes for a flashy drive but gets a thick edge that whizzes past the slips to the third man fence.
125.2 : 125.2: U Yadav to Rashid, FOUR! More runs! This time it's smart from Rashid. The ball is directed at his pads and he shuffles on the back foot to glance it deftly down to the fine leg fence. This partnership is surely frustrating the Indians.
126.5 : 126.5: R Jadeja to Dawson, FOUR! Streaky runs! Flatter and fuller outside off, Dawson goes for a flashy drive but gets a thick edge that goes well past the two slips. Beats Ashwin at backward point comfortably to his left as it goes to the fence for a boundary.
127.4 : 127.4: A Mishra to Rashid, FOUR! Shot! Drags it short outside off, Rashid stays back to that one and cuts it away nicely through point to find the fence. Good positive blow from Adil.
129.3 : 129.3: A Mishra to Rashid, FOUR! GLORIOUS SHOT! Floated up, Rashid comes down the track to push it through mid-wicket for a boundary.
133.4 : 133.4: A Mishra to Rashid, FOUR! Pitched up and Rashid drives it through covers for a boundary. Good shot.
137.6 : 137.6: A Mishra to Rashid, FOUR! FINALLY! Pitched outside off, Rashid reaches out to it and heaves it over the mid-wicket region for a boundary. An attacking shot after ages it seems.
142.1 : 142.1: R Jadeja to Rashid, FOUR! Rashid drives it through the cover region elegantly for a boundary. That shot makes him reach to his fifty.
142.5 : 142.5: R Jadeja to Rashid, FOUR! Rashid plays it really late to guide it towards the third man region for a boundary. TOP SHOT!
145.1 : 145.1: U Yadav to Rashid, OUT! FINALLY SOMETHING HAPPENS! Pitched outside off, Rashid tries to drive it but he manages to edge it straight into the hands of Parthiv Patel who collects it comfortably. Rashid has to take the long walk back after a really good inning.
147.2 : 147.2: U Yadav to Broad, FOUR! BEAUTY! Outside off, Broad just opens the face of his bat towards the third man region for a boundary. That was really well timed.
148.4 : 148.4: R Ashwin to Broad, FOUR! Broad has cut that really late to get a boundary. Such a good shot.
149.4: I Sharma to Dawson, FOUR! Dawson gets in line of the ball to drive it through the cover region for a boundary. Sublime shot.
153.1 : 153.1: R Jadeja to Broad, OUT! Mix up and gone! Floated on a length on middle, Broad works it with the turn down towards fine leg where Rahul makes a fine stop near the ropes and does well to parry the ball back into play. There is big confusion between the two batsmen on the third run and they decide to get back. Rahul then fires in a flat throw at the keeper's end and Patel does the rest. They go upstairs and it's proven that Broad was short.
156.1: R Ashwin to Dawson, SIX! Is that out? No! Axar just loses balance. It was tossed up around leg and Dawson steps out to whip it over mid-wicket. Axar (substitute) near the ropes probably overran the ball initially but then goes backwards and actually takes the catch. However, he loses balance and falls to the ground thereby touching the ropes. That's a maximum.
156.4 : 156.4: R Ashwin to Ball, SIX! Smoked! Ball is having fun. Tossed up on middle, he steps out to that one and hoists it comfortably over long on for a big maximum. Ashwin's torrid time in this match continues. He's not bowled badly to be fair to him but has certainly lacked the fizz. The slowness of the pitch has not helped either.
157.2 : 157.2: A Mishra to J Ball, OUT! MISHRA GETS HIS FIRST! A doosra outside off, Ball is totally undone by it and goes to punch it. The ball goes between the bat and pad to hit the timber. ENGLAND HAVE BEEN BOWLED OUT FOR 477.
1.3 : 1.3: J Ball to Patel, FOUR! LUCKY! Sliding outside off, Patel tries to cut it but the ball goes throw the bottom edge between the first and second slip for a boundary. Root at second slip tries to stop the ball on the bounce and gets slightly hurt in the process.
10.1 : 10.1: Ben Stokes to Rahul, FOUR! Length ball outside off, Rahul gets behind the line of the ball and drives it through the cover region for a boundary. He welcomes Stokes in some style.
12.2 : 12.2: Ben Stokes to L Rahul, FOUR! TOP SHOT! Pitched outside off, Rahul cuts it really well over the infield towards the point region for a boundary. Rashid puts in a dive but is unable to stop it.

16.6 : 16.6: A Rashid to P Patel, FOUR! ELEGANT! Tossed up outside off, Parthiv gets in line of the ball and drives it through covers for a really well timed boundary.
21.5 : 21.5: S Broad to P Patel, FOUR! CLASSY! Angling into the stumps from a good length, Parthiv lunges towards the ball and just pushes it straight down the ground elegantly past the mid on region for the first boundary of the day.
22.1 : 22.1: L Dawson to Rahul, SIX! UP AND OVER! Tossed up outside off, Rahul dances down the track and hits it straight over the bowler's head for a biggie. That was brilliant timing from Rahul there.
24.1: L Dawson to Rahul, SIX! BRILLIANT! Tossed up on the off stick, Rahul dances down the track and hoists it over the mid-wicket region for a maximum. That went really far in the stands. Rahul has a different plan to play with the debutant's mind.
27.1: S Broad to Patel, FOUR! TOP SHOT! Angling into the pads, Patel gets in position quickly and flicks it through mid-wicket for a boundary. That was really well timed and the quicker outfield helped it go fast.
27.6 : 27.6: S Broad to Rahul, FOUR! LOVELY SHOT! Angled into the pads, Rahul just flicks it through the mid-wicket region for a boundary. He looked really well composed to hit that one and reminded us of a Rahul Dravid moment.
30.2 : 30.2: J Ball to Rahul, FOUR! CRACKER! Length ball outside off and Rahul leans onto it in a flash to square drives it through the point region. A really good knock in place for Rahul.

32.2: J Ball to Patel, FOUR! Sliding down the leg side, Patel somehow gets a bit of bat to it and the ball flies quickly towards the fine leg region for a boundary. That was real quick. Replays show it came off the boot.

37.4 : 37.4: M Ali to Rahul, FOUR! Full toss on the stumps, Rahul adjusts his line and reverse sweeps it through point for a boundary. Cheeky stuff.
41.3 : 41.3: M Ali to Patel, FOUR! UP AND OVER! Parthiv comes down the track and hoists it over the the mid-wicket region. The ball just falls short of the ropes. With that he reaches to his highest Test Score. 150 run stand for Patel and Rahul.
41.5 : 41.5: M Ali to Patel, OUT! PARTHIV HAS TO DEPART! An off spinning delivery outside off which turned a bit to undo Parthiv. Parthiv tries to heave it over mid-wicket but the ball flies of the the leading edge in the air for a simple catch for Jos Buttler who is standing at covers. An impressive knock comes to an end.
43.3 : 43.3: M Ali to Rahul, FOUR! EXCELLENT SHOT! Fired in on the leg stump, Rahul reads it well and reverse sweeps it towards deep point for a boundary. He can both sweep and reverse sweep really well.
46.3: A Rashid to Pujara, FOUR! FLICKED AWAY GRACEFULLY! Tossed up outside off, Pujara comes down the track to make it into a full toss and flicks it through mid-wicket for a boundary. Superb stroke.
46.6 : 46.6: A Rashid to C Pujara, FOUR! PULLED AWAY! Dragged in short and Pujara is quick to pounce on that bad ball to pull it through the mid-wicket region for a boundary.
49.5 : 49.5: L Dawson to Pujara, FOUR! ELEGANT! Outside off, Pujara camps back and square cuts it through the point region for a boundary. Really well timed.
50.5: Ben Stokes to C Pujara, OUT! EDGED AND TAKEN! Back of a length delivery outside off and the ball moved a bit away after pitching which got the better of Pujara who edged it straight to the slip fielder. Cook who was stationed there took a really easy catch. A really loose shot there and a key moment to lose a wicket just after the break.
52.6 : 52.6: Ben Stokes to Kohli, FOUR! Good length delivery outside off, Kohli plays it with an angled bat towards the third man region for a boundary.
60.4 : 60.4: S Broad to Kohli, OUT! MASSIVE WICKET! There's a stunned silence around the stadium. Around the wicket, it was a full ball angled across the batsman, Kohli couldn't keep the drive down and found Jennings at short extra to precision. Huge wicket for England and they will now have their tails up. The in-form Indian skipper has to depart. This is a really good phase for the tourists. Drying the runs up and also getting a couple of wickets. INDIA TRAIL BY 266.

82.3 : 82.3: Joe Root to Rahul, FOUR! ELEGANT! Again down the leg, Rahul is quick to read it and pull it square of the wicket to pierce the gaps for a boundary. That boundary makes him reach to his 2nd 150+ score.
85.2 : 85.2: J Ball to K Nair, FOUR! DROPPED! Length ball outside off, Karun goes for a drive and the ball catches the outside edge and goes straight towards the slip cordon. Cook who is standing at first slip drops an easy catch and the ball runs away for a boundary.

102.3 : 102.3: A Rashid to Rahul, OUT! Would you believe it? KL Rahul misses out on a double ton by a mere 1 run. He is down on the ground in disbelief. His teammates are astonished and so is the Chepauk crowd. Rashid tosses it full and wide outside off, KL could have easily left it alone but he feels for this one and ends up paying the price for the same. Ends up slicing it straight to Buttler who takes a simple catch at cover-point. He walks back with a forlorn face as he knew he has missed out on som

115.4 : 115.4: L Dawson to Nair, SIX! WHAT A SHOT! Karun, you beauty! Dawson gives this one a bit more flight around middle, turning away a bit, Nair skips down the track, gets to the pitch of it and nails it down the ground over long on for a biggie all the way. Made a good connection there.
