Commentary :
0.0 : The last time India lost a Test match at home was back in 2012, when England won in Kolkata. The tides are have turned this time 'round as it'll be the Aussies who feel the heat in Pune. A tough road lies ahead for the visitors. With India unbeaten in their last 19 Test matches, most of which have been played at home, it's been pipped that this is a David-Goliath battle.
A lot has been said about the home side winning this battle with considerable ease. The wicket in Pune is expected to be dry and in Steven Smith's own words, he expects it to turn right from Day 1. The Aussie skipper has spoken out against the scrutiny of his team and despite admitting that it is going to no cakewalk by any means, is eager to prove everybody wrong.
Unbeaten in the last 19 Tests, that is not taken to be lightly by any means. Australia know this, Steven Smith especially knows this, and we all know the men from Down Under have never backed away from a challenge. Today, we will see how the Aussies fare after all their intense preparations, first in Dubai and then coming to India. Going to be a super contest without a shadow of a doubt. Hello and welcome, ladies and gents....
Pitch Report - Ravi Shastri says he has never seen a pitch like this in Indian conditions. Adds no water has been poured on it since last 7-8 days. Further says there are huge cracks on it, it might dry and open up. Informs when the ball will land on the footmarks, it will misbehave. Shane Warne also says it's a good wicket and continues saying he has never seen a pitch like this. Feels this looks like a day 5 wicket. The toss will play a crucial part according to him.

When asked he should know the conditions well as he plays here in the Indian T20 League, he adds it looks a bit different from the T20 deck. Further says the preparations have been great and the boys are up for the challenge. Informs they are going with two fast bowlers, two spinners and an all-rounder batsman.
Virat Kohli says wanted to bat first. Adds they have lost the toss in the past but still have won the games so this would keep them in contention. They would look at this as another challenge. Informs they have opted Jayant Yadav in place of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and have two seamers, Umesh Yadav and Ishant Sharma, who can exploit the reverse swing. Continues saying the preparations have been good and would be hoping that they can continue the same way in the match. Ends by saying in the ODI game ag

A superb start for the Aussies in the Tests series! They could have very well dragged this session in their kitty but the wicket of Warner has just settled it in both the teams' favour. Smith won a good toss and would be happy with what happened next. The Aussie openers, Warner and Renshaw played with a calm head and used their feets well to negotiate the spinners.
The young Renshaw was a bit aggressive in his approach as he didn't let Jadeja settle. Jayant Yadav extracted a good amount of turn and bounce and could have gotten the better of Warner had he not overstepped. In the process, the Indians even lost the review and then just before lunch, Kohli brought Umesh Yadav into the attack who drew first blood.
However, Renshaw too walked off after Warner was dismissed. Still not sure what has happened to him. He is retired ill and that made way for two new batsmen - Smith and S. Marsh. They only wanted to see off the session and hence were very much in the blocking zone. So, with the pitch turning immensely and the odd ball keeping low, let's see if the Aussies can tackle it in the second session. The Indians would be looking to come out hard after a tough opening session. Join us in a while to see ho

93.6 : I Sharma to Hazlewood, Ishant Sharma comes steaming in and arrows it on a fullish length, it's going across Josh Hazlewood who plants his front foot forward and withdraws his bat to let it go past him. A day which has ended well for Australia, THAT'S STUMPS ON DAY 1!
That brings us to the end of what has been an intriguing day of Test cricket. Mitchell Starc and his striking will be the talking point of the day as he has taken apart the Indian bowling attack and has not only registered his fifty but has also taken his team's total past the 250-run mark. Take a bow, Mitchell!
Earlier in the day, Australia did well in the first session as openers Warner and Renshaw played with a calm head. But once the opening stand was broken, the middle order couldn't capitalize. Smith, S. Marsh, Handscomb all got starts but none of them could convert it and were trapped against a wily attack. Renshaw who was retired ill came out in the second session and registered his first fifty in the sub-continent. When he was looking to up the ante he fell prey to Ashwin and the Aussies were o
For India, they had their moments but would be ruing the fact that they let the advantage slip. They had a golden chance to bundle out the Aussies today itself but some great fighting spirit from Starc and Hazlewood denied them. Umesh Yadav was the best bowler, picking up a 4-fer. Ashwin was good in parts while Jadeja had a tough outing today. The track isn't easy to bat on and with the total that the Aussies have got on the board, they should fancy their chances to have a go at the Indian batsm
... DAY 2, SESSION 1 ...
Hello and welcome to the coverage of Day 2 of the 1st Test between India and Australia. As expected, the Pune deck started spinning from the word go. Despite that, the Australians showed grit and determination to score 256 runs at the loss of 9 wickets. At one stage, it seemed like they would be bundled out below 250 but Mitchell Starc played a counter-attacking innings and slammed his 9th Test fifty. Starc and Hazlewood are still at the centre and their aim would be to take their total close to
Pitch Report - There are cracks and rough areas, somewhere around a short of a length, that will cause the batsmen to think about what to do. The key is to play as late as possible, as it was shown by Matt Renshaw yesterday. Playing late will allow the batsmen to play any kind of shot they want, either attack or defend. It's a dry surface, there's a bit more turn, a bit more exaggeration. So the advice from the centre is to play as late as possible.
We are ready to get underway as the players and umpires have made their way out in the middle. Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood to continue with the bat, their objective will be to score as briskly as possible. Ravichandran Ashwin to start off with the ball first up...
94.1 : R Ashwin to Starc, Ashwin initiates the day with a tossed up delivery outside off, Starc prods forward and defends it.
94.2 : R Ashwin to Starc, FOUR! Attack straightaway. Starc doesn't want to waste any time. Looped up delivery around off, Starc lofts it over mid on for a boundary.
94.3 : R Ashwin to Starc, Bowls this outside off, Starc looks to defend but gets beaten.
94.4 : R Ashwin to Starc, Starc goes forward to defend but is beaten by the turn.
94.5 : R Ashwin to Starc, OUT! And it's all over. Floated delivery, outside off, Starc kneels and slog sweeps to go over deep mid-wicket. He gets the connection but the elevation wasn't quite there. Jadeja takes an easy catch. AUSTRALIA ARE ALL OUT FOR 260!
So.... That didn't take long. Took Ravichandran Ashwin only 5 deliveries to wrap things up. The ideal start for Virat Kohli and his men. Now, they trail by 260 runs and their main objective will be to post a big first innings total. Stay tuned as the Indians will be coming out to bat soon.
