RPS 163/5 (20)
Gujarat won by 7 wickets
GL 164/3 (18)
Match over
1.0 :

Rising Pune Supergiants have scored 5 off the first over. But did I just hear Navjot Singh Sidhu make a controversial statement on air? He said that Gujarat and Pune teams are 'old wine in new bottle'.

DJ Bravo to K Pietersen, 6 runs, 47/1

12.1 :

This is why Faf du Plessis is very crucial for Pune tonight.

16.2 :

OUT. Two quick wickets. Actually three. After Kevin Pietersen, Faf du Plessis and Steve Smith also fall. At 134/4, the Pune innings has suddenly hit a roadblock. Just 23 runs off the last 20 balls as well. Now they have to target 175 only.

2.3 :
8.4 :

Pune are in assault mode at the moment. 78 off 8 overs. Kevin Pietersen looks in fantastic form. It's good to see him looking this good. Can Pune get 200 today? Some good running as well and not-so-good fielding on the fence so far.

At 111/1 in 13 overs, Pune Supergiants MUST aim for 190 . Gujarat will hope to keep them under 175. A couple of wickets and some slower ball wide yorkers may be the order of the day.

Kevin Pietersen has been considerably sedate, scoring 37 off 29 balls. du Plessis has reached his fifty and is looking the more aggressive of the two. But we have a suspicion that Pietersen's wicket matters more here.

Here's some fair play from the game. Nice sportsmanship

3.5 :

GONE! Ajinkya Rahane is gone, he played back to a ball he should have come forth to. Unusual dismissal for Rahane this, he doesn't usually fail with technique. Looked really ordinary.

A funny slide by the fielder in the deep gets Pietersen his first boundary. He slid in the manner in which someone comes down a slide, not with his hands in front. Nice comic timing.

This is why Faf du Plessis is very crucial for Pune tonight.

13.6 :

OUT. Kevin Pietersen has played on off a low and slow full toss. Dwayne Bravo is once again the rescue man. He does a familiar Champion Dance for everyone's pleasure. Gujarat are back in the game. Steve Smith is the new batsman.

Join us back for the coverage of Gujarat run chase in 10 minutes from now.
End of over: RPS 163/5 (Dhoni 22, Bhatia 0)
3.0 :

McCullum is on fire early on, as we thought he would be. 2 sixes in the last over, 18 off 8 balls so far. Gujarat have started beautifully with 27 scored off 3 overs.

'Ped jaise haath hai inke" (His hands are like trees) says the commentator referring to Aaron Finch. What? Can we have some decent commentary? Can we have Harsha Bhogle back please?

Harsha is tweeting about the Sachin Biopic though.

At the strategic timeout, Gujarat have biffed their way to 62/0. The required rate is now just around 7. After McCullum's early assault, Aaron Finch is now on the loose. If Pune do not get quick wickets from hereon, the match could end in a hurry.

12.1 :

At 114/1 in 12 overs, Gujarat are cruising towards another win. Just 50 needed off the last 8 overs. Supergiants have to do something special to come back into the game.

Just 17 needed off 23 balls. Suresh Raina was stumped off the first ball of that over. But Gujarat are well and truly home. It is a commanding performance from them so far in this tournament. Both the batting and bowling are well oiled and there has been a collective team effort in both games.

That's the end of the match. A tame end as a wide finishes the game, with Gujarat Lions having 12 balls in hand. This is both a comfortable and commanding victory. Pune Supergiants were ahead for the first 35% of the game. They began to fall behind exactly in the 14th over of their innings. After that, apart from one over of Dhoni madness, it was all Gujarat Lions, who now have 2 wins in 2 games.

10.2 :

The commentary is atrocious. Sidhu was saying things like "Wo ball poora airhostess ho hello bolke aaya" and "Main jab subah 3:30 baje bathroom jaane utha....."

But after he leaves it does not improve. They are now discussing Bhima, Ghatotkach and some other mythological entities. This is embarrassing and we are sure the Hindi-speaking public deserve much better commentary standards.

This is old but relevant:

8.3 :

Ishant Sharma just took the catch of his life to dismiss Aaron Finch. Like the best catch ever taken by Ishant Sharma. So people should stop trolling him now.

13.4 :

Brendon McCullum has holed out to Ishant Sharma for 49 from just 31 balls. He went for full glory - a sixer - to reach his fifty. But the match may be beyond Pune's reach now. Gujarat need just over six runs per over. The Pune bowling hasn't really showed up tonight the way they did against Mumbai Indians. No bowler has been stingy. Ashwin has the best economy at 3 overs for 23 and no wicket.

7.6 :

Aaron Finch has reached 50 in 33 balls.
