Match over
0.0 : Hello and welcome to the third and final Test match between England and West Indies. The hosts were given a wake up call after Windies shocked everyone with a win at Headingly. It was the brilliance of Kraigg Brathwaite and Shai Hope that handed the visitors their first victory after 17 years in England. So it all sets up for a thrilling decider at the Mecca of cricket - Lord's. Stay tuned for the toss.
WEST INDIES WIN THE TOSS AND WILL BAT FIRST. Team changes - As announced last evening, the hosts bring in Toby Roland-Jones in place of Chris Woakes. West Indies remain unchanged.
The players are out in the middle as KRAIGG BRATHWAITE and KIERAN POWELL take their guard. JAMES ANDERSON to open the bowling for the hosts. He is on 497 wickets! Conditions are a little overcast but hopefully there will be no rain. Three slips and a gully in place, here we go!
0.1 : J Anderson to Brathwaite, Starts off with a good length ball around off. Punched through the covers off the back foot for a brace.
0.2 : J Anderson to Brathwaite, Good length outside off, Brathwaite leaves it alone.
0.3 : J Anderson to Brathwaite, Forces the batsman to play this one. On a good length around off, Brathwaite defends it off the front foot and into the ground.
0.4 : J Anderson to Brathwaite, Bowls this slightly wide outside off. Brathwaite does not go for it.
0.5 : J Anderson to Brathwaite, Another one outside off, Brathwaite taps it towards point watchfully.
0.6 : J Anderson to Brathwaite, Fuller around off, Brathwaite taps it towards covers for a single.
Stuart Broad to bowl from the other end.
1.1 : S Broad to Brathwaite, Good length ball on middle, defended from within the crease.
1.2 : S Broad to Brathwaite, This is much fuller around off, Brathwaite comes forward and defends.
1.3 : S Broad to Brathwaite, Stays back in his crease this time and blocks.
1.4 : S Broad to Brathwaite, Much, much fuller, around off, that is the length to bowl, KB comes forward and blocks it out.
1.5 : S Broad to Brathwaite, Anti-climax. This is sprayed wide outside off, Brathwaite lets it go.
1.6 : S Broad to Brathwaite, Better than the previous one, closer to the stumps, let through.
2.1 : J Anderson to Powell, Landed on a good length around off, defended from the crease.
2.2 : J Anderson to Powell, Fuller outside off, Powell looks to flick it away but gets a leading edge through the covers. A single taken.
2.3 : J Anderson to Brathwaite, EDGED, DROPPED! It is Cook. One of the safest fielders in the slip cordon. But he has shelled one. And this is not new. He put down two in the previous Test too. Anderson bowls a beautiful delivery, landing it on a length outside off and gets it to curve away. Brathwaite is forced to defend coming forward but then gets squared up as the ball moves away. It takes the outside edge and goes straight to Alastair Cook at first slip who gets down to catch but then puts i
2.4 : J Anderson to Brathwaite, ANOTHER EDGE! This one does not go to hand. This is on a length again, outside off, Kraigg pushes at it tentatively once more and gets another outside edge. However, luckily for him, it does not carry to the diving Ben Stokes at gully.
2.5 : J Anderson to Brathwaite, Shorter in length this time, KB thinks there are some freebies on offer, slashes hard but misses.
2.6 : J Anderson to Brathwaite, On middle and leg, flicked straight to short mid-wicket. Eventful over. Could have had a wicket on more than one occasion.
3.1 : S Broad to Powell, Landed outside off, angling away, let through.
3.2 : S Broad to Powell, On a good length outside off, left alone again.
3.3 : S Broad to Powell, Fuller in length, outside off again, left alone once more.
3.4 : S Broad to Powell, Make that four leaves in a row now.
3.5 : S Broad to Powell, Keep counting. Five dots on the trot, all made contact directly by the keeper. The batsman has had nothing to do with any of those.
3.6 : S Broad to Powell, Finally makes the batsman play, by bowling it on a length from around the wicket, then getting it to come back in. Powell looks to flick but misses and is hit on the pads. A mild LBW shout ensues but that seemed to be going down leg.
4.1 : J Anderson to Brathwaite, Outside off, pushed through the covers for a single.
4.2 : J Anderson to Powell, On a length this time, outside off, angling away, left alone.
4.3 : J Anderson to Powell, That is a peach. Anderson keeps this really full and invites Powell to drive. The batsman obliges but does not move his feet at all. Prodigious movement away from him takes the ball past the outside edge. Brilliant bowling.
4.4 : J Anderson to Powell, Another lovely delivery, almost similar to the one bowled previously. Only this time the line is outside off and is comfortably left alone.
4.5 : J Anderson to Powell, Wider outside off, easier leave.
4.6 : J Anderson to Powell, Gets his radar slightly wrong this time, Powell flicks this through mid-wicket for a single.
5.1 : S Broad to Powell, Landed outside off, but pretty wide, left alone.
5.2 : S Broad to Powell, Defended off the back foot by the batsman.
5.3 : S Broad to Powell, Fuller and miles outside off, left alone.
5.4 : S Broad to Powell, HOW DID THAT MISS? Tremendous, tremendous bowling. Broad bowls this on a length and the line is well outside off. Powell, assuming that it is going to be a successor of the ones before, lets it go. However, to his dismay, the ball comes in a long way. Luckily for him, it goes over the stumps.
5.5 : S Broad to Powell, FOUR! Nicely done. Welcome runs for the Windies. A length ball outside off, Powell waits for the ball to come to him and then guides it to the third man fence.
5.6 : S Broad to Powell, Outside off, left alone.
6.1 : J Anderson to Brathwaite, Full and outside off, driven straight back.
6.2 : J Anderson to Brathwaite, The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.
6.3 : J Anderson to Brathwaite, Around off, watchfully defended.
6.4 : J Anderson to Brathwaite, This time he stays deep in his crease and blocks.
6.5 : J Anderson to Brathwaite, Goes back and tucks it through the leg side for a couple.
6.6 : J Anderson to Brathwaite, Landed around off, watchfully blocked.
7.1 : S Broad to Powell, Landed outside off, left alone.
0.0 : Whoa... one look at the dark grey clouds from the end where James Anderson is bowling and it gives us the creeps. Seems like the heavens may open anytime soon.
7.2 : S Broad to Powell, Goes back and tucks it to the covers for a single.
7.3 : S Broad to Brathwaite, Outside off, pushed through the covers for a couple.
7.4 : S Broad to Brathwaite, On a length but wide outside off, gets it to move away but Brathwaite never looked to play at that. Kept his bat well inside the line.
7.5 : S Broad to Brathwaite, On middle and leg, flicked straight to short mid-wicket.
7.6 : S Broad to Brathwaite, Outside off, a play and a miss to end a very ordinary over. Broad has not made the batsmen play much at all. His lines have predominantly been wide.
8.1 : J Anderson to K Powell, Beautiful bowling. Broad needs to take a lesson or two from Jimmy. He bowls this really full, lands it around middle and then gets it to swing in. Powell looks to flick but gets a thick inside edge onto his pads.
8.2 : J Anderson to Powell, Full and outside off, pushed through the covers. The fielders come charging in but Powell still goes for the single. Chancy run but he makes it.
8.3 : J Anderson to Brathwaite, The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.
8.4 : J Anderson to Brathwaite, Another quick single. This is good running from West Indies and nice thinking too. Runs are hard to come by and rotation of strike will frustrate the bowler. This time he just pushes one to cover and takes one more.
8.5 : J Anderson to Powell, Landed outside off, shaping away, Kieran pokes at it with soft hands and dabs it to gully.
8.6 : J Anderson to Powell, Full and around off, watchfully defended.
9.1 : S Broad to Brathwaite, A rare full ball from Broad, puts it just around off, then gets it to move away. Brathwaite pushes but misses.
9.2 : S Broad to Brathwaite, This one swings in, Kraigg looks to flick but misses and is hit on the pads.
9.3 : S Broad to Brathwaite, This is down the leg side, flicked away for a single.
Nasser Hussain on air remarks on the lengths to be bowled on this pitch. Not necessarily here but mostly in England. Surprisingly, amongst the English bowlers, it has been Toby-Roland Jones who has been the fullest with 28 percent of his deliveries being on the fuller side. Anderson, on the other side, has been only bowling 13 percent of his deliveries this summer on that length. It has reflected as well with TRJ getting plenty of wickets this summer. Even today, the batsmen have been comfortabl
9.4 : S Broad to Powell, Outside off, left alone.
9.5 : S Broad to Powell, Another indipper, but down the leg side, Kieran misses his flick and is hit on the pads.
9.6 : S Broad to Powell, Outside off, left alone.
10.1 : J Anderson to Brathwaite, Outside off, left alone.
10.2 : J Anderson to Brathwaite, One more leave outside off.
10.3 : J Anderson to Brathwaite, Fishing... Brathwaite pokes at that one slightly outside off and is beaten.
10.4 : J Anderson to Brathwaite, OUT! Caught behind! Wicket number 498 for Jimmy in Tests! He is pumped up. His perseverance has paid dividends. He has been toiling, toiling, toiling for the last 45 minutes and eventually gets the edge. He has been bowling mainly inswingers but this one goes away from the batsman. Brathwaite has a tentative poke, perhaps expecting the inswinger. But instead he gets a thick nick behind to Jonny Bairstow who collects and jumps in jubilation. West Indies have lost t
KYLE HOPE walks in at number 3, replacing Brathwaite.
10.5 : J Anderson to Hope, Outside off, left alone.
10.6 : J Anderson to Hope, Full on middle, pushed towards mid on.
11.1 : S Broad to Powell, Landed around off, watchfully defended.
0.0 : Umpire Marais Erasmus has a chat with Chris Gaffaney about the lights. Should the stadium lights be switched on? It is looking really gloomy out there. But nothing from the umpires as of now.
11.2 : S Broad to Powell, Outside off, left alone.
11.3 : S Broad to Powell, On a good length around off, watchfully defended.
Rain drops on the camera lens... the umbrellas are opening up in the stands...
11.4 : S Broad to Powell, One more leave outside off.
11.5 : S Broad to Powell, Landed on a good length outside off, not played at again. Broad needs to be closer.
11.6 : S Broad to Powell, The batsman shows the full face of the bat and defends the ball off the back foot.
There is a lot of delay to bowl this over. Gaffaney is not particularly keen to continue because it has gone really dark and the drizzle is getting heavier. Anderson is smiling but no one is getting a move on. Okay the decision is taken. THE PLAYERS ARE WALKING OFF.
This was more or less coming. Mike Atherton on air is hopeful that this is just a passing shower and adds that the forecast is not that bad. It is not raining heavily but they are not continuing for now. Stay tuned for updates...
UPDATE 1210 local time - Good news! The rain has stopped and the umpires are out having a check. The covers are also being removed. Play should resume in about 20 minutes.
The players are back. The weather is still gloomy but let's hope it clears out soon. KYLE HOPE and KIERAN POWELL to continue their innings. JAMES ANDERSON to continue with the ball. Here we go...
12.1 : J Anderson to Hope, Starts off with a fuller ball, moving away nicely. Kyle Hope watches it till the last moment before making a leave.
12.2 : J Anderson to Hope, Pitches it up again, Hope lunges forward and blocks it off the front foot.
12.3 : J Anderson to Hope, On a length and angling in from around off, Hope has a push at it but the ball nips away to nearly take the outside edge.
12.4 : J Anderson to Hope, Similar delivery! Serves it on a length and then gets it to move away beating the outside edge of Kyle Hope's bat.
12.5 : J Anderson to Hope, Arrows in a good length delivery on middle and off, defended gently off the front foot.
12.6 : J Anderson to Hope, In the channel outside off, Hope lets it be.
Stuart Broad to have a go from the other end...
13.1 : S Broad to Powell, FOUR! Broad begins the spell from around the wicket and straightaway offers a gift. Strays on the pads and it's easily flicked away through mid-wicket for a boundary by Powell.
13.2 : S Broad to Powell, Hits the deck hard and hurls it around the off stump channel, Kieran lifts his bat to let it be.
13.3 : S Broad to Powell, Gets his front foot across and stabs it straight towards the point fielder.
13.4 : S Broad to Powell, This is much better from Broad. He persists to bowl it outside the off stump. Kieran Powell shows patience and leaves it alone.
13.5 : S Broad to Powell, Pitches it on a length outside off and straightens off the deck to beat Powell.
13.6 : S Broad to Powell, Fires in a fuller ball on the pads, Powell misses his attempted flick shot and wears it on the pads. No real appeal as it was going down leg.
14.1 : J Anderson to Hope, Fuller and a bit wide outside off, Hope has got nothing to do with that one.
14.2 : J Anderson to Hope, Angles it in from around off, defended solidly off the front foot.
14.3 : J Anderson to Hope, OUT! Anderson is up and running! Wicket number 499 for the veteran! He keeps it fuller around off, Kyle Hope leans ahead to play at that but then at the last moment decides not to do so. His bat is hanging out and the ball takes the outside edge and flies towards first slip. However, Jonny Bairstow dives full length to his right and takes it near the face of Alastair Cook. A typical Anderson celebration follows - right arm up with a finger pointing skywards. Oh wait, th
SHAI HOPE walks in next, replacing his brother. He was the star of the previous game and with his side in early trouble, can he replicate it?
14.4 : J Anderson to S Hope, FOUR! Shot, that! Continuing from where he left off? Anderson actually shouldn't be worried with that. He sticks to a fuller ball outside off, Hope lunges ahead and drives it on the up through covers. Pierces the gap and finds the fence. That's some way to get off the mark.
14.5 : J Anderson to Hope, Good length delivery outside off, once again defended nicely off the back foot.
14.6 : J Anderson to Hope, FOUR! Easily done! Slants it away on a length outside off, Hope stands tall, opens the face of the bat and dabs it past fourth slip to find the fence again. Good positive start from Shai!
15.1 : S Broad to Powell, FOUR! Fuller and swinging back in on the pads, Powell uses the pace of the ball and clips it behind square on the leg side for a boundary.
15.2 : S Broad to Powell, Fuller and outside off, nicely left alone.
15.3 : S Broad to Powell, The ball is too wide on the off side for the batsman to make any contact.
15.4 : S Broad to Powell, Fuller and swinging further away, Powell lets it be.
15.5 : S Broad to K Powell, Fuller on middle and leg, worked towards mid on.
15.6 : S Broad to K Powell, Marginally overpitched around off, Powell brings his bat down at the angle but drives it straight to the fielder at short cover.
16.1 : J Anderson to Hope, Serves it fuller outside off, Hope takes his front foot across to block it down on the pitch.
16.2 : J Anderson to Hope, Around off, curling away, no harm for Shai to make a leave.
Toby Roland-Jones is warming up.
16.3 : J Anderson to Hope, Good length delivery on off, Shai Hope has a tentative poke inside the line. Luckily, he didn't nick that one.
16.4 : J Anderson to Hope, On a length and outside off, this one kicks off the deck. Hope hangs his bat out in defense but once again gets beaten.
16.5 : J Anderson to Hope, Pitches it on a fuller length outside off, SH stabs it into the ground.
16.6 : J Anderson to Hope, Fuller and swinging in on the pads, Hope walks across a touch and flicks it towards mid-wicket. A maiden for Jimmy!
TOBY ROLAND-JONES is brought into the attack now.
17.1 : T Roland-Jones to Powell, Begins his spell with a back of a length delivery outside off, punched through covers for an easy single.
17.2 : T Roland-Jones to Hope, Ahead of a length and around off, all the time in the world for Hope to keep that one out.
17.3 : T Roland-Jones to Hope, Length delivery outside off, defended off the back foot. He should be bowling much fuller.
17.4 : T Roland-Jones to Hope, Listens to me and pitches it right up there. Shai Hope offers no stroke.
17.5 : T Roland-Jones to Hope, Beaten! That's more like it! A fuller ball, curling away off the deck and making Hope tempt for it. The batsman does so and gets beaten all ends up.
17.6 : T Roland-Jones to Hope, Hope shoulders arms to let that one through.
18.1 : J Anderson to Powell, Bowls it on middle and it jags away with the angle as Powell sees it go past him to the keeper.
18.2 : J Anderson to Powell, Slants it across the left-hander who has no issue in letting it be.
18.3 : J Anderson to Powell, Once again bowls it outside off and it moves further away. Easy peasy leave for the southpaw.
18.4 : J Anderson to Powell, There it is! He is setting him up here. Beware Powell! Brings it back into the left-hander but KP stands behind the line and offers a straight bat defense.
18.5 : J Anderson to Powell, Back to out-swingers again. No harm in leaving them alone.
18.6 : J Anderson to Powell, A bit fuller and served wider outside off, Kieran leaves it alone.
Just a minute left for the break. Jonny Bairstow rushes across to the other end to ensure that there is one more over bowled in this session. The clock on the ground is showing 12.59 but Michael Holding on air says that more often than not the umpires check their wrist watches. Here comes Roland-Jones.
19.1 : T Roland-Jones to Hope, On a good length and shaping away from outside off. The length is such that it allows the batsman to let it be.
19.2 : T Roland-Jones to Hope, Fuller and strayed down the leg side. The batsman tries helping it on its way but fails to do so.
19.3 : T Roland-Jones to Hope, Tad fuller and served around the off stump line, Shai Hope lunges forward in defense.
19.4 : T Roland-Jones to Hope, Back of a length delivery outside off, Shai hangs back in defense.
19.5 : T Roland-Jones to Hope, Fuller and sprayed outside off, Hope ignores.
19.6 : T Roland-Jones to Hope, Fuller and swinging away, Shai Hope lunges forward and then lifts his bat to make another leave. LUNCH ON DAY 1!
A good session for England! Their senior most pro, James Anderson has been right on the money and is just one shy of 500 Test wickets - a rare feat indeed. He has bowled testing lines and lengths and made the ball do the talking. Brathwaite was dropped on 3 but it didn't cost the home side much. He continued to be tentative and Anderson nipped him out. Kyle Hope also struggled to get going and gifted his wicket away.
The star of the previous game, Shai Hope is looking confident from the word go. Kieran Powell has been very patient and is playing a key role from the other end. The conditions are still overcast and the seam bowlers need to make it count. There was a slight rain stoppage but thankfully, it didn't last long. However, dark clouds are still looking threatening and we can only hope that they will stay away. Join us in a while for the afternoon session.
... Day 1, Session 2...
The players are walking back out to the middle for the second session. James Anderson to continue with the ball. An important update - Tea will be taken at 1610 local time due to the rain stoppage in the first session.

21.5 : S Broad to K Powell, Gets the edge of Powell but falls short of the man at fourth slip. Broad bowls a good length ball just outside off and Powell tries to defend it with soft hands. He needs to be more careful.
21.6 : S Broad to Powell, FOUR! Superb shot from the southpaw. This is full outside off and Powell simply pushes it off his front foot towards the long off fence.
22.1 : J Anderson to Hope, Outside off, left alone.

23.5 : S Broad to Powell, Fuller this time on off, Powell plays it to mid-wicket.
23.6 : S Broad to Powell, Ends the over by leaving the ball outside off. He could do that all day.
Toby Roland-Jones replaces Anderson.
24.1 : T Roland-Jones to Hope, Bowls this full on the pads, Hope clips it towards fine leg for a single.
24.2 : T Roland-Jones to Powell, FOUR! Easy does it for Powell! He gets a short length ball outside off and Powell cuts it off the back foot through covers for a boundary.
24.3 : T Roland-Jones to Powell, The batsman lets the ball go outside his off stump.
24.4 : T Roland-Jones to Powell, Powell shoulders arms to let that one through.
24.5 : T Roland-Jones to Powell, Fuller this time, Powell defends it off his front foot.

25.1 : S Broad to Hope, Good length ball on middle and off, Hope defends it off the back foot.
0.0 : Nasser Hussain on air mentions that Kieran Powell is playing much better today. In Headingley, he was hurrying into his strokes and as a result, wasn't getting his timing right. Today, he is taking his time and allowing the ball to come which is a much better way to play.
25.2 : S Broad to Hope, The batsman shoulders arms to let that one through.
25.3 : S Broad to Hope, Another one outside off which Hope ignores.
25.4 : S Broad to Hope, Good length ball wide outside off. Once again, Hope does not go for it.
25.5 : S Broad to Hope, Good length ball around middle and leg. Hope gets behind the line to defend it.
25.6 : S Broad to Hope, Fuller just outside off. Hope looks to defend but is tentative and misses it in the end. The ball goes close past the outside edge of the bat.
26.1 : T Roland-Jones to Powell, Flashy! TRJ bowls a full length ball just outside off. Powell looks to play a drive through the covers but misses the ball completely.
26.2 : T Roland-Jones to Powell, Another one that beats the outside edge of the bat. Powell has not looked comfortable at all with the balls outside off. This was also full outside off and Powell could not connect with his attempt to play at it.
26.3 : T Roland-Jones to Powell, This is on middle and off, Powell defends it solidly off the back foot.
26.4 : T Roland-Jones to Powell, Full on middle, Powell drives it straight to mid on.
26.5 : T Roland-Jones to Powell, Full and on the leg side. Powell tries tucking it behind but misses and the ball strikes him on the thigh pad.

27.3 : S Broad to Hope, Shout for LBW! Not given by the umpire. This is on a good length ball on middle and leg, nips in sharply. Hope looks to defend it off the back foot. He misses and the ball strikes him on the thigh pad. Perhaps the height factor saved him there. Good shout nevertheless. Broad was interested in a review but Root knew that it was probably a touch too high.
27.4 : S Broad to Hope, Fuller from Broad, Hope defends it off the front foot and into the ground.
27.5 : S Broad to Hope, Wide outside off stump, the batsman leaves it alone.
27.6 : S Broad to Hope, Good length this time, Hope gets behind the line and defends it from within the crease.
Nasser Hussain on air makes another good analysis. He says that Powell's front foot is pretty stiff while he is driving. He doesn't show much decisive footwork and that is the reason he has been beaten on several occasions. In contrast, Ben Stokes is much more confident and he commits himself completely while driving. He gets the desired results as well.
28.1 : T Roland-Jones to Powell, Very, very full from Roland-Jones. Powell gets to his front foot and drives it magnificently through mid off. Good chase by the fielder at wide mid off to save a run for his team. Three runs taken.
28.2 : T Roland-Jones to Hope, The batsman shows the full face of the bat and defends the ball off the back foot.
28.3 : T Roland-Jones to Hope, Fuller outside off, Hope goes for it but misses.
28.4 : T Roland-Jones to Hope, FOUR! Good length around leg. Hope flicks it nicely through mid-wicket for a boundary. The slope certainly helps Hope as the ball makes it way to the ropes.
28.5 : T Roland-Jones to Hope, The batsman lets the ball go outside his off stump.
28.6 : T Roland-Jones to Hope, Once again the ball outside off has been left alone by Hope.
Ben Stokes is introduced into the attack.
29.1 : Ben Stokes to K Powell, FOUR! Edgy from Powell! Bowls a fullish length ball on middle and the ball swings away as well. Powell looks to defend it but gets an outside edge which flies past backward point and races away to the fence. Lucky for Powell, Stokes will not mind that.
29.2 : Ben Stokes to Powell, Another one swung into the pads, played through mid wicket for a couple.
29.3 : Ben Stokes to Powell, Back of a length this time, Powell defends it off the back foot.

29.5 : Ben Stokes to Powell, Full on middle, played through mid wicket for a single.
29.6 : Ben Stokes to Hope, The batsman shows the full face of the bat and defends the ball off the back foot.

30.2 : T Roland-Jones to Powell, Another one outside off that has been left alone by Powell.
30.3 : T Roland-Jones to Powell, Fuller on middle and leg. Powell flicks it through mid-wicket and takes three runs. Good chase by the fielder who prevents a boundary. Superb batting by these two as they get their first 50-run stand.
50-run partnership comes up between Powell and Hope. These two have played sensible cricket and are providing a good foundation for the middle order to capitalize on.
30.4 : T Roland-Jones to Hope, Hope looks to go for the one outside off. He was looking to guide it towards third man but failed to meet the ball.
30.5 : T Roland-Jones to Hope, This time Hope leaves the ball outside off alone.
30.6 : T Roland-Jones to Hope, The batsman defends it from within the crease.
31.1 : Ben Stokes to Powell, Looks to drive this one from outside off. The ball swings swings away and beats the outside edge of the bat.
31.2 : Ben Stokes to Powell, Full on off, Powell drives it straight down the ground. Stokes does really well to dive to his left and stop the ball.
31.3 : Ben Stokes to Powell, The batsman shoulders arms to let that one through.
31.4 : Ben Stokes to Powell, Another one outside off, Powell leaves it alone.
31.5 : Ben Stokes to Powell, Full and outside off, Powell leaves it alone.
31.6 : Ben Stokes to Powell, Short ball from stokes this time. Powell looks to hook it behind but the ball goes over his head.
32.1 : T Roland-Jones to Hope, The batsman shows the full face of the bat and defends the ball off the back foot.

The ball bounces a tad extra, seams slightly away and takes the outside edge of Hope's bat. Cook at first slip takes the catch and is proud of himself. He has been dropping catches on a consis

MOEEN ALI is introduced into the attack. Pretty interesting tactics. Ben Stokes is bowling from the end of Toby Roland-Jones, so either it is a change of end for him and Stokes or something else.

Chase looks to defend but this is just unplayable as the ball goes past his outside edge and strikes the off stump. Stokes is elated with this and he's really enjoying the movement he's getting off the pitch. The first ball was an inswinger and this time the away swinger does the trick for him and his side.
JASON HOLDER walks in to bat next. Can the skipper bail his side out of trouble?
43.3 : Ben Stokes to Holder, Good length ball on off, defended off the back foot towards covers for a single.
That is a brilliant catch! Or is it? England are celebrating and so is Stokes. However, the umpires want to check the legality of the catch. Referred upstairs...
43.4 : Ben Stokes to S Dowrich, OUT! Another one bites the dust! Another one that seams slightly away from the batsman and takes the outside edge of the bat towards Cook at first slip. The former English skipper makes no mistake as he gets low to take the catch. So after dropping three catches in a row, he takes two good catches. That should give him confidence.

46.1 : M Ali to Bishoo, FOUR! Floated on off, Bishoo slashes hard at it and good thing that he does. The ball shoots off his outside edge past first slip towards the ropes. Lucky runs for Windies but they'll take them.

47.4 : Ben Stokes to Holder, Back of a length ball wide outside off. Easy leave for Holder.
47.5 : Ben Stokes to Holder, Full outside off, Holder pushes it towards covers and sets off. That's a poor run by the skipper as a direct hit from Roland-Jones at the striker's end could have dismissed Bishoo.
47.6 : Ben Stokes to Bishoo, Very full and swinging into the batsman. Bishoo does well to keep it out.
48.1 : M Ali to Holder, Floated around middle and off, Holder plays it straight to mid-wicket.

Moeen Ali is going off the field. This could also signal Jimmy Anderson to come on from his end.
49.1 : Ben Stokes to Bishoo, Stokes from around the wicket sprays it fuller and wide outside off. Bishoo has got nothing to offer to that one.
49.2 : Ben Stokes to Bishoo, Fuller again but this time the line is down the leg side. Devendra looks to flick but is undone by the pace on the ball. Bairstow behind the stumps does well to stop that one.
49.3 : Ben Stokes to Bishoo, Stokes oversteps! Very full and attacking the stumps. Bishoo stays leg side and jams it out. Umpire Erasmus signals it as a no ball as Stokes oversteps. He'll have to deliver it again.
Ben Stokes to Bishoo, FOUR! Inside edge and through! Stokes is getting heavy swing but isn't able to control it. Fuller and angling in from around off, Bishoo brings his bat down to drive it away from the body but the ball takes the inside edge and dribbles down to the fine leg fence for a boundary.
49.4 : Stokes to Bishoo, Good length delivery, nipping back in from around off and hits DB on the thigh pad.
49.5 : Ben Stokes to Bishoo, Stokes goes over the wicket and angles it in from outside off. Bishoo plays inside the line of this.
49.6 : Ben Stokes to Bishoo, The leggie is happy to leave it alone this time.

50.5 : J Anderson to Holder, Shortish and angling in, tucked towards the leg side.
50.6 : J Anderson to Holder, Anderson sticks to his length, keeps it around off and induces an edge as well. However, the ball doesn't carry to stokes stationed at fourth slip. Hands on head! A maiden for Jimmy!
51.1 : Ben Stokes to Bishoo, From around the wicket, fires it full and outside off, Bishoo shoulders his arms to that one.
51.2 : Ben Stokes to Bishoo, How did that miss the stumps? That was mighty close! He's getting some real swing here. Keeps it full but it turns out to be a yorker which nips back in. Bishoo is late to bring his bat down as the ball nearly takes the off pole apart.
51.3 : Ben Stokes to Bishoo, Sprays it too full and wide outside off to make the Windies leggie play at it.
Apparently Stuart Broad has gone off the field with a sore heel. Meanwhile, Moeen Ali has come back onto the field and stationed at leg slip.
51.4 : Ben Stokes to Bishoo, Wide outside off stump, the batsman leaves it alone.
51.5 : Ben Stokes to Bishoo, A bit short and hurled around off, Bishoo lunges forward and taps it towards cover for a brisk single.
51.6 : Ben Stokes to Holder, Goes wide of the crease and drops it on the shorter side. Jason stays back and pushes it off the inner half back to Ben Stokes who shares some words of wisdom.
52.1 : J Anderson to Bishoo, Back of a length delivery, coming back in a bit, dealt with a straight blade.
52.2 : J Anderson to Bishoo, Fuller and slanting away outside off, easy leave for Devendra.

52.4 : J Anderson to Bishoo, Goes from around the wicket and drops it on a good length around off. Bishoo has a tentative push inside the line and hence gets beaten.
52.5 : J Anderson to Bishoo, Goes full and wide outside off, Bishoo is not going to play at those. Anderson and Bishoo share a smile.
52.6 : J Anderson to Bishoo, Beaten again! On a length and curving away just enough to beat the blade. But not getting that edge he is waiting for. The wait continues as Tea is looming.
53.1 : Ben Stokes to Holder, A bit short and outside off, Holder taps it in front of cover-point and sets off. Bishoo is quick to say a NO and send his skipper back.
53.2 : Ben Stokes to J Holder, Edged and it's dropped! Joe Root is the culprit! Stokes is fuming at the moment. He comes running in and serves a length delivery on off. Holder plays it away from the body and that almost brings his downfall. An outside edge is induced but much to the batsman's delight, the English skipper at second slip dives to his left but spills the catch. A chance goes down abegging.
53.3 : Ben Stokes to Holder, FOUR! Edgyy! Fuller and bowled wide outside off, Holder once again drives it away from the body. Gets it off the outer half of the blade and rolls behind point for a boundary.

53.5 : Ben Stokes to Holder, Length ball outside off, Holder stands back and plays inside the line.
53.6 : Ben Stokes to Holder, Sprays it down the leg side, Holder looks to work it away but fails to do so. IT'S TEA ON DAY 1!
Another brilliant session for England! They have continued from where they left off in the first session. They scalped 5 wickets in this session and are on the verge to bowl the tourists out. It was Toby Roland-Jones and Ben Stokes who led the way for their side. The latter in particular was really impressive in his extended spell as he got the ball to move both ways. James Anderson towards the end was called back but wasn't that effective. A worry for the hosts - Stuart Broad is off the field d
The Windies on the other hand looked absolutely clueless against the onslaught that was on offer. They are 7 down at the moment and by the looks of things, it seems like they won't even reach 150. Will the Windies' tail wag? Will we see Anderson getting his 500th Test scalp? We shall find out in a very short while....
... Day 1, Session 3...
Welcome back for the third session. A lot to look forward to. Here comes Jimmy Anderson with his tail up. Devendra Bishoo will face the first ball after tea. Four slips in place for him...
54.1 : J Anderson to Bishoo, Full length delivery well outside off, swinging away. Bishoo doesn't bother to play at that one.
54.2 : J Anderson to Bishoo, This one is on a length outside off and good seam position on that. The ball seams away after pitching. Bishoo points his bat skywards to allow it through.

55.4 : Ben Stokes to J Holder, OUT! What a brute of a delivery from Stokes! Even a top order batsman would have found it really difficult to tackle it. Ben steams in and bowls it on a fuller length well outside off. It swings in prodigiously. Holder looks to keep it out gingerly but is beaten for pace and swing. The ball goes onto shatter the stumps. This is an absolute classic display of fast bowling. Very well-deserved!

SHANNON GABRIEL is the last man in.
57.3 : Ben Stokes to Gabriel, OUT! That's the final nail in the coffin! Fullish delivery outside off, curving in substantially. Gabriel attempts an agricultural slog over mid on but misses it completely to get his stumps rattled. Stokes is all smiles and this is his career best figures in Tests. His teammates encircle him to congratulate him. THE WINDIES ARE BOWLED OUT FOR 123!
What a dominating performance from England! They lost the toss but were fortunate enough when Jason Holder chose to bat in overcast conditions. The most prolific English bowler, James Anderson did what he does best. He made the ball talk and nipped out two quick wickets. Kieran Powell and Shai Hope stitched a 54-run stand but lost their way soon after. Toby Roland-Jones was also in good rhythm and made life difficult for the batsmen.
Stokes was in a different league altogether. He registered his best career-figures and extracted prodigious swing and seam movement. The visitors didn't have any clue and crumbled under pressure. Join us in a while for England's reply with the bat.

0.2 : K Roach to Cook, Bowls this wide outside off, Cook leaves it alone.
0.3 : K Roach to Cook, Another one on a good length and outside off. Left alone by Cook. The umpire is having a look at Roach's landing area, he needs to be careful and not get too close to the danger zone.

1833 local - The umpires speak with the two batsmen in the middle asking them if they would like to continue as it has become really dark. After discussing with them and also Jason Holder, they come to the decision of walking off. Holder is not too keen on this as he tries convincing the umpire that the conditions are playable. However, it also starts drizzling as the players make their way out of the field. The pitch is being covered at the moment with 11 overs still remaining in the day. Does
The inevitable has happened! It has got really dark and the umpires have made a wise decision of CALLING IT A DAY.
An absorbing day of Test cricket! 14 wickets fell and it is really heartening to see the bowlers coming out on top on what is supposed to be a batsman's game in modern day. The visitors made the final session count by picking up four wickets. Roach and Holder were consistently bowling probing lines and lengths and got the rewards as well.
England were in control for most part of the day but faltered towards the fag end. Bowling out the opposition for 123 is a commendable feat. Agreed that the conditions were favourable for the seam bowlers but still the efforts had to be put in. Stokes was sensational as he picked up a 6-fer and he got good support from Anderson who is on 499 Test wickets at the moment. However, as has been throughout the summer, their top order failed yet again and to make matters worse, even skipper Root has go
West Indies will be brimming with confidence right now but do not forget that this English line-up bats very deep. They still have Bairstow and Moeen Ali to come and will back themselves to get to 200 from here. Having said that, kudos to the fighting spirit of the Windies. They attacked from the word go and have brought their side back into the contest.
The forecast for tomorrow is not looking that great at the moment with thundershowers on the radar. That means more stern test for the batsmen. We lost around 11 overs today due to rain and hopefully, we will be able to make those up in the remaining days. Can the Windies continue their fightback? Or will England bounce back on a new day? Join us at 1100 local tomorrow to catch all the action from Day 2. Till then, goodbye and cheers!
... DAY 2, SESSION 1 ...
Hello and a warm welcome to the coverage of Day 2 of the final Test between England and West Indies at the Lord's. The game is nicely poised at the moment with the hosts holding a bit of upper hand due to their deep batting line-up. A lot will be expected from Stokes who scored a century in the previous match when his side was in some trouble. On the other hand, the Windies have fought back hard after their dismal show with the bat.
As many as 14 wickets fell yesterday and we can witness something similar today as the conditions are conducive for swing bowling. Kemar Roach and Jason Holder hold the key for the visitors. The forecast isn't that good for today with thundershowers expected to interrupt. Let's hope the weather holds up and we get to witness some scintillating cricket.
We have an update for you all. Some time back the rain had stopped and the covers had been peeled off. Unfortunately, it has started drizzling and the hover cover is back. An on and off day seems likely. We can expect a delayed start. Stay tuned for more updates.

Drinks has been taken. The highlight till now has been Jimmy Anderson bagging his 500th Test wicket and that too at the home of cricket. A moment he will surely cherish for a lifetime. The English bowlers have been right on the money and the opposition is finding it difficult to apply themselves. The visitors still trail by 37 with eight wickets in hand. A long but an eventful day of Test cricket comes to an end! West Indies have fought back well to wipe off the trail and are effectively 22/3! After bowling out England for 194 earlier in the day, they were jolted and thereby Anderson reached the milestone of scalping 500 Test wickets. However, the pair of Kieran Powell and Shai Hope did the rebuilding work and just when they were looking set, Anderson bowled a peach of a delivery to break the stubborn partnership. Roston Chase then walked in and
England will be pretty pleased with their efforts too. Ben Stokes bailed them out of trouble, courtesy a breezy fifty and then the pace duo of Anderson and Broad had fun with the bat to gain a 71-run lead. When they came out to bowl, they took full advantage of the overhead conditions but just towards the end were kept at bay. You got to give it to the Windies' batsmen for seeing off the tricky period as it was really gloomy and batting by no means was an easy task.
Right then! The make or break day is what we have got tomorrow. The match is poised nicely at the moment but the only worry is weather. Let's hope that the rain gods don't interrupt and we get to witness a full day's play. Join us tomorrow at 1100 local (1000 GMT) to see who gains the upper hand. Until next time, it's goodbye from us. Cheers!
... DAY 3, SESSION 1 ...
Hello and a warm welcome for Day 3 of the final Test between England and West Indies at Lord's. The visitors are effectively 22/3 and they still have a lot of work to do. A lot will depend on Shai Hope who scored a match-winning century in the previous game and he needs to do his best to replicate such a performance. With an opportunity to win a Test series in England after 1988, expect the Windies to come hard.
On the other hand, the hosts know that if they get an early wicket or two, they will hold the upper hand in the contest. With the ball moving around substantially, the lower order of the tourists will definitely be vulnerable. Anderson who has gone past 500 Test wickets is in terrific rhythm but the worry for the home side is that he has already stepped on the danger zone twice. One more time and he will be done for the innings. The forecast is much brighter today and let's hope the weather hold
We are ready to get underway. It is a bright and sunny morning at the home of cricket. 98 overs are scheduled for today. SHAI HOPE and ROSTON CHASE to continue their innings. JAMES ANDERSON to start off with the ball. He is bowling from the end where Chris Gaffaney is the umpire. Wise call by Root. Three slips and a gully in place. Here we go...
31.1 : J Anderson to Hope, Starts off with a length ball shaping away from around off. Hope looks to poke at it but misses.
31.2 : J Anderson to Hope, First run of the day! Fuller one on the pads, flicked towards deep square leg for a single.
31.3 : J Anderson to R Chase, Another full length ball on middle and leg, pushed towards mid on.
31.4 : J Anderson to Chase, OUT! Anderson gets another! After going past 500 wickets, there's just no stopping him! Chase has been dismissed on just the fourth delivery of the day. Anderson bowls this on a length around off. The ball shapes away as well. Chase goes chasing after it and gets a thick edge which goes behind to the keeper. Bairstow makes no mistake as he dives to his right and completes the catch. West Indies are in big trouble now!
JERMAINE BLACKWOOD strides out to bat. The Windies are in a spot of bother and England will be aiming to capitalize on that.
31.5 : J Anderson to Blackwood, Going down the leg side, Blackwood looks to swing at it but misses.
31.6 : J Anderson to Blackwood, Fuller around middle, played off the front foot and into the ground.
STUART BROAD to bowl from the other end. Meanwhile, in the last delivery of the previous over, Anderson was again close to landing on the danger area but umpire Chris Gaffaney didn't notice it. The veteran needs to be careful.
32.1 : S Broad to Hope, Fullish on middle and off, defended solidly off the front foot.
32.2 : S Broad to S Hope, Fuller again outside off, Hope looks to defend. Gets an outside edge but it does not carry to the slips.

34.1 : S Broad to Hope, Fuller on middle, driven straight to mid on.
34.2 : S Broad to S Hope, Another one that is full on middle. Hope drives it straight to mid on.
Umpire Erasmus passes the ball through the 8-shaped gauge. It is fine enough to continue.
34.3 : S Broad to Hope, Good length outside off, Hope plays inside the line of this delivery.
34.4 : Broad to Hope, Struck on the pads! Loud shout by Broad but the umpire is not interested at all. This is a back of a length delivery angling into the batsman. Hope looks to defend but misses and the ball strikes him high on the pads. Sadly for England, they've lost both their reviews and can't take it upstairs. It wouldn't have mattered anyways as that was high and easily missing the stumps.
34.5 : S Broad to Hope, Moves this away from Hope this time. Left alone by Hopes.
34.6 : S Broad to Hope, Wide outside off, Hope leaves it alone again.
35.1 : J Anderson to Blackwood, Length ball around off. Blackwood goes hard it and gets a leading edge which flies through covers. Couple taken.
35.2 : J Anderson to Blackwood, Dropped! Broad is not happy with himself as he hits the turf in anger. This is full on off and Blackwood looks to go hard it. He gets it off the toe end of the bat and it flies towards Broad at mid off. He gets his hands behind the ball but fluffs it and drops the catch. Quite an easy chance there, Blackwood gets a life!
35.3 : J Anderson to Blackwood, Defends this one from within the crease.
35.4 : J Anderson to Blackwood, Good length ball on middle, defended off the back foot towards mid on.
35.5 : J Anderson to Blackwood, Good length on off Blackwood hops towards it and blocks it off his back foot.
There is an issue with the ball. The umpires are again passing it through the 8-shaped gauge. However, they feel that it is alright.
35.6 : J Anderson to Blackwood, Angles this one down the leg side. Blackwood looks to flick but misses.
36.1 : S Broad to Hope, Full length delivery around off, driven crisply to mid off.
36.2 : S Broad to Hope, This is good bowling from Broad! He steams in and pitches it on a length outside off in the corridor of uncertainty. Gets some good inward movement as well. Hope plays inside the line and lets it go.
36.3 : S Broad to Hope, Length delivery on off, Hope covers the line and eases it to mid off.
36.4 : S Broad to Hope, On a good length around off, Hope hangs back and blocks it to covers.
36.5 : S Broad to Hope, Broad is probing in around the zone of apprehension. Hope is cool as a cucumber. He covers his off pole, strides ahead and keeps his bat inside the line to make a good leave.
36.6 : S Broad to Hope, This one swings in substantially from a fuller length around off, Hope keeps it out watchfully.
37.1 : J Anderson to Blackwood, Good length ball on middle, Blackwood defends it solidly.
37.2 : J Anderson to Blackwood, Ooh just misses the top of off stump there! This one is also on a good length, shaping away a touch. Blackwood tries to defend it off his back foot but misses.
37.3 : J Anderson to Blackwood, Shows the full face of the bat and defends this off the back foot.

38.1 : S Broad to Hope, Angles this onto the pads, Hope plays it towards square leg for a single.
38.2 : S Broad to Blackwood, Length ball on off, defended off the back foot by Blackwood.
Blackwood has been adjudged LBW but he reviews it immediately. Big moment in the game. Umpire Erasmus for some reason looked at his partner Chris Gaffaney and decided to rule it out. Stokes feels there is an inside edge. Only that can save Jermaine.
38.3 : S Broad to Blackwood, NOT OUT! The review saves him on this occasion! There is a slight inside edge which is spotted by the Ultra Edge. The umpire would not have knows as he thought the two noises could have been bat on pad. It was on middle, shaping slightly in. Blackwood looks to push it off his front foot but misses as the ball goes through the gap between bat and pad to strike him on his back pad. Broad appeals straightaway and the umpire thinks, has a look towards square leg and raise
38.4 : S Broad to Blackwood, Outside off, shaping away. Blackwood goes to push at it but misses.

39.2 : J Anderson to Blackwood, OUT! Fourth wicket for Anderson! Bowls this on a good length, gets it to move away after pitching around off. Blackwood tries to push it towards covers but looks very tentative and gets a thick edge which goes towards the keeper. Easy catch for Bairstow and that's the end of Blackwood's inning. Never looked too comfortable in the middle. Anderson moving towards yet another 5-fer as he punches the air in elation. Half the Windies batsmen have been sent back to the p

40.3 : S Broad to Hope, Four Leg byes. Down the leg side, Hope looks to flick but misses. The ball strikes the pads and runs down to the fine leg fence.

Great way to end the summer for Joe Root and Co. What a brilliant performance from England! They got a wake-up call after losing the second game but have bounced back in style to win the decider. The hosts just needed 107 runs to win and it was a stroll in the park for them. Though Cook fell early, the pair of Stoneman and Westley played sensible cricket to get their side across the finish line. The Windies didn't have much runs to protect and as expected, ended on the losing side.
Earlier, after winning the toss, Holder elected to bat first. The weather turned gloomy after the game started and there was prodigious movement on offer for the seam bowlers. Anderson was decent to pick up two wickets but it was Stokes who did the damage with a 6-fer. He ran through the Windies' batting line up who were caught in shallow waters and fell like a pack of cards.
When you get bundled out for 123, the morale is down but credit to the visitors for putting in their 100 percent. Kemar Roach shone with the ball to pick up a fifer. However, a breezy knock from Stokes and the late flourish from Broad and Anderson helped the hosts to take a handy 71-run lead.
And then began the Anderson show. The Lord's crowd was eagerly waiting in anticipation for his 500th Test wicket and he reached the milestone with a ripper. He became only the third pace bowler to achieve it, a rare feat indeed! He made the ball talk, rattled the opposition and picked up a seven-wicket haul. Shai Hope was the only hope for the tourists. He looked good but eventually crumbled under pressure. In the end, there was no twist in the tale. The home side chased the paltry target with e

Man of the Series for West Indies, Shai Hope considers this as a breakthrough series for him. Hopes that he can carry this performance further. Feels it's a tough place (England) to play cricket and is happy to come out good for his side and get some runs under his belt. Adds it was a great learning experience for all the batters as back at home they don't get to see ball moving around so much. Ends by saying it's all about trusting your plan and executing it.
Man of the Series for England, James Anderson says that he will remember this (500th wicket) for the rest of his life, adds that it's always special at Lord's. Feels that it's good to share the moment with the guys. Accepts that he didn't think he'd play this much for England and is delighted to achieve this feat. Also feels that at the end, it worked to bowl from the nursery end. Admits that he tried to create pressure and got rewards for it. Goes on to say that he's not surprised on his fitnes
West Indies skipper, Jason Holder says that there are no regrets. Mentions that the boys put up a good fight after the first innings. England skipper, Joe Root feels the guys did fantastically well this morning and continued throughout the day. Thinks (on Anderson's 500 wickets) it speaks for itself, says that he knows this game inside out. Adds that he controlled the movement very well. Jokingly admits that he comes as grumpy but very helpful and is brilliant for the dressing room. Further adds that his side played some great cricket throughout the summer. Feels that the way his side won has been fantastic. He hopes to take i
Joe Root has been handed the trophy. He is all smiles and along with his teammates poses for a photograph. That brings us to the close of a terrific Test series between England and West Indies. The visitors did extremely well to win the second Test and surprised one and all. People would have thought that another upset is on the cards but the strong willed English side rose to the occasion. The Windies had an opportunity to win a Test series in England after 1988 but every story doesn't have a h
