1.5 : 1.5: K Yadav to C Munro, SIX! Munro goes big! Once again the length is on the shorter side, this time the Kiwi quickly goes deep inside the crease and hammers it over long on for a maximum.
2.1 : 2.1: P Chawla to C Munro, FOUR! Chawla with a slip in place bowls it full and around off, spinning away a bit, Munro goes hard at it and drills it past his partner and the mid off fielder for a boundary.
2.2 : 2.2: P Chawla to C Munro, FOUR! Not in much control but still it's a boundary for Colin! Full and spinning away from outside off, Munro tries to loft it over covers but ends up slicing it over backward point. It flies over the infield and races away to the fence in no time. The Kiwi opening up now.
2.4 : 2.4: P Chawla to P Shaw, FOUR! The little Shaw showing his class this time. Attacks the flighted ball around off and powers it with the spin over covers. It goes on one bounce to the fence. Turning out to be an expensive over from Chawla!
2.5 : 2.5: P Chawla to P Shaw, FOUR! And again. Chawla under pressure. All the experience he has but he's feeling the heat against a newcomer. Fires in a quicker and shorter one on middle, Shaw stands back and pulls it powerfully in front of square leg. No chance for the fielder in the deep.
3.2 : 3.2: S Mavi to P Shaw, FOUR! Bang! Great connection on this occasion. Once again plenty of width on offer outside off and good batsmen rarely miss out. This time Prithvi packs a punch and smashes it through point.
3.5 : 3.5: S Mavi to C Munro, FOUR! Munro gets into the act now. Mavi is bowling at a good speed but he has not struck good length. Once again he is shortish outside off, Munro gives the charge and spanks it down the ground to long on.
4.3 : 4.3: S Narine to C Munro, FOUR! Nicely played! A carrom ball landing full around off, spinning away, Munro goes deep inside the crease to make space and forces it through the gap at covers.
4.4 : 4.4: S Narine to C Munro, SIX! That's smoked! Narine drops it full and on middle, Colin clears his front leg immediately and muscles it over mid-wicket for a biggie. The Kiwi is taking the West Indian to the cleaners. Not allowing him to settle here. 50 up for Delhi in quick time!
5.4: M Johnson to P Shaw, FOUR! Time for Prithvi to show why he is so highly rated. As soon as he gets the width outside off, he shows no mercy and bludgeons it through cover-point. Good battle, this.
6.6 : 6.6: S Mavi to C Munro, OUT! Sound of timber and Mavi roars in delight! Brilliant delivery, he keeps it full and around off, once again the pace is right up there as Munro tries to drill it through covers by making some space. But it takes the inner half of his willow and destroys the stumps. A fine knock by the Kiwi but he will be disappointed not to have cashed in on the start.
8.4 : 8.4: M Johnson to P Shaw, FOUR! Well played! Johnson switches to round the wicket for Shaw but hurls a length ball on his pads. The young pad quietly picks it up and flicks it with great timing through backward square leg for a boundary.
8.5 : 8.5: M Johnson to P Shaw, SIX! Prithvi, the new kid, flies a helicopter! Delightful. No respect whatsoever to one of the most fearsome bowlers in cricket! Great wristwork shown by the young man. He receives a length ball in his half, rotates his wrists skillfully and launches it over mid-wicket for a biggie. That shot will make MS Dhoni proud.
10.3 : 10.3: A Russell to P Shaw, FOUR! This little man has got some power! Fetches a short delivery from around off and muscles his pull shot over mid-wicket for a boundary.
10.6 : 10.6: A Russell to P Shaw, FOUR! Putting on a 'Shaw'! Russell errs and serves a low full toss around off, Prithvi presents the full face of the bat and caresses it back past the bowler for a glorious boundary.
11.1 : 11.1: K Yadav to S Iyer, SIX! High and handsome! 100 comes up for Kolkata! A nice stride forward by the Delhi skipper, beautiful extension of his arms as he hoists it with the spin over mid-wicket for a biggie.
12.4 : 12.4: M Johnson to S Iyer, FOUR! Inventive! Finally connects with one to bring up the 50-run partnership. A nicely directed short ball by Johnson again, this time Iyer crouches, keeps his eyes on the ball and upper cuts it down to third man for a boundary.
12.6 : 12.6: M Johnson to P Shaw, SIX! Boom! It goes all the way! Johnson digs in a short ball around middle and leg, Shaw uses every bit of his height to ride the bounce and then plays a sweetly timed pull shot. Perfect connection and it flies over the rope at square leg.
13.1 : 13.1: P Chawla to S Iyer, SIX! That's high and mighty! Shreyas showing his range now. Chawla serves it flighted and full just around off, Shreyas gives it the full whack of his bat and dismisses it over the bowler's head. Pressure straightaway on the bowler.
13.6 : 13.6: P Chawla to P Shaw, OUT! Oh no, that stayed a little low and Shaw gets bowled. An unfortunate end to a very promising knock by Prithvi Shaw. Never mind, just applaud this extraordinary effort by a future star. Chawla with a googly around off, a bit on the shorter side around off and it sneaks under the bat of Shaw who was looking to strike it over the leg side. The stumps illuminate and that marks the end of a 68-run stand.
14.2 : 14.2: A Russell to R Pant, OUT! A golden duck for Rishabh Pant! Russell has hurried Pant with his pace and bounce, targets his shortish length ball superbly, Rishabh is caught inside the crease as he gets ready to leave it. But once again the ball stays lower than expected and takes his gloves on its way towards Karthik who takes the simplest of catches.
14.4 : 14.4: A Russell to S Iyer, FOUR! Blazes away! Short and wide outside off, Shreyas rocks back and whacks it past the gap between backward point and short third man.
14.6 : 14.6: A Russell to S Iyer, SIX! Wow, great hit! Russell bangs in a short ball around off, Iyer uses the depth of the crease and flat-bats it over extra cover for a maximum. 13 runs and a wicket off the over! Gambhir in the dugout loved it.
16.4 : 16.4: S Mavi to S Iyer, DROPPED AND SIX! Uthappa was the fielder! Mavi hurls across a full ball around middle, Shreyas thwacks it over mid on and it flies to the deep. Uthappa moves across to his right to attempt for the catch, jumps a bit to do so but ends up parrying it over the rope. The umpire quickly checks upstairs before signalling for a biggie. Fifty up for Shreyas, what a start to his captaincy stint, also third consecutive one. Oozing form and confidence!
16.5 : 16.5: S Mavi to S Iyer, SIX! Excellent batting by Shreyas. Plenty of movement inside the crease by him to confuse the bowler. Mavi ends up serving it full and right in the hitting zone for Iyer. He rockets it over extra cover and it sails over the rope.
17.3 : 17.3: S Narine to S Iyer, SIX! Once again dropped near the rope! Iyer once again aims to go downtown but it has gone high but not too long. Rana gets underneath it at long on, tries to take the catch but puts it down and it goes over the rope. Kolkata getting clumsy in the field and these runs might come back to haunt them.
17.6 : 17.6: S Narine to G Maxwell, SIX! That's more like it from Maxwell. Narine commits the mistake of dropping it short and Maxwell makes him pay dearly. Rocks back and blazes his pull shot over long on for a maximum. 18 from the over, also the 50-run stand comes up off only 23 balls.
18.2 : 18.2: M Johnson to G Maxwell, SIX! That's as flat as a Formula One racetrack. Short ball down the leg side, Maxwell moves inside the line and with a little swivel, he pulls it over short fine leg for a biggie.
18.6 : 18.6: M Johnson to G Maxwell, FOUR! Connects and connects well this time. Full and in the slot, Maxwell stands firm and hammers it straight back down the ground for a rocketing boundary. 11 off the over.
19.1 : 19.1: S Mavi to S Iyer, SIX! A mighty one! That's not the length to bowl at this stage, Mavi. He bowls it full and just around off, Shreyas latches onto it and cracks it over covers for a biggie.
19.2 : 19.2: S Mavi to S Iyer, SIX! Change of angle by Mavi but the result is the same! 200 up for Delhi! This one is full and on the pads, Shreyas swings his bat like a hammer and dispatches it over mid-wicket for a maximum. Huge pressure on Shivam now!
19.3 : 19.3: S Mavi to S Iyer, OUT! Maxwell is gone! He was too eager to get on strike after Shreyas failed to put bat to ball on this delivery. It was a clever one by Mavi. Too full and wide outside off. The keeper quickly released the ball to the bowler who scored a direct hit to find the Aussie short. The third umpire confirmed the same and the 73-run stand off 32 balls comes to an end.
19.4 : 19.4: S Mavi to S Iyer, SIX! Smoked away! Iyer is in a different zone at the moment. Mavi digs in a short delivery in line of the stumps, Shreyas gets on top of the bounce and hammer-pulls it over mid-wicket. This is extraordinary batting!
19.5 : 19.5: S Mavi to S Iyer, FOUR! A jab by Shreyas! Gets a full delivery around off and crunches it over mid off. That's once again struck with immense power and the long off fielder stands no chance.
19.6 : 19.6: S Mavi to S Iyer, SIX! Finishes things off in a grand manner, Iyer. This time the length is on the shorter side, Shreyas camps back and dismisses it over long off for a maximum. 29 runs from the over, Delhi end on a massive 219/4!
0.2 : 0.2: T Boult to C Lynn, FOUR! Nice placement. Short of a good length into the body, Lynn swivels and pulls it powerfully along the ground, through square leg for a boundary.
1.1 : 1.1: G Maxwell to S Narine, SIX! And that's a big one too. Narine welcomes Maxwell with a maximum. Tossed right up there from around the wicket, Sunil targets the straight boundary and smokes this with a lot of power there. Clears the fence with absolute ease.
1.3 : 1.3: G Maxwell to S Narine, FOUR! Better placement this time. Beats Munro out in the deep. Around off, Narine crashes it through the gap in the covers, beating the fielder to the rope.
1.5 : 1.5: G Maxwell to C Lynn, OUT! Maxwell strikes! Perfect start for him and Delhi. Wonderful stuff. Maxwell comes from over the wicket this time and bowls a quicker one on off. Lynn is done in by the pace and gets cramped for room too. Looks to force it across the line but ends up getting an inside edge back on to the stumps. That's an all Aussie affair as Glenn gets the better of Chris.
2.1 : 2.1: T Boult to R Uthappa, OUT! Boult dismisses Uthappa! Kolkata are two down in no time. Soft dismissal in the end, really. Short in length, on middle, it's quick in pace which hurries Uthappa into the pull shot. He gets a top edge towards mid-wicket where Shaw takes a simple catch moving backwards, a little to his right.
2.3 : 2.3: T Boult to S Narine, SIX! Takes the attack to Trent Boult and earns a maximum to his name. Full ball, in his arc and Narine doesn't need any second invitation to put this away. Backs away, gets his front leg out of the way and launches it over long off.
2.4 : 2.4: T Boult to S Narine, SIX! Back-to-back maximums for Sunil Narine! And this isn't any ordinary bowler, it's Trent Boult. Full on leg, Narine backs away and smokes it straight back over the bowler's head for a biggie.
2.6 : 2.6: T Boult to S Narine, OUT! And Boult has the last laugh. Can't keep a bowler of his quality out for too long. Super. The dangerman Narine departs. Short of a good length angling in on middle and leg, the West Indian makes a little room to pull but spoons a top edge towards Iyer at cover. The Delhi skipper comes inside a few steps and takes it with ease and a lot of glee. Kolkata rocked early and in some trouble now.
3.6: A Khan to N Rana, FOUR! That's a beautiful shot! Khan slants across a length ball outside off, Rana opens the face and punches it firmly through point. Perfectly in the gap and that will race away. No stopping it.
5.1 : 5.1: A Khan to N Rana, OUT! Proper pacer's wicket for Avesh Khan! Superbly done. Hits the deck hard and bangs it in short. Rana is in no position to play the pull shot. Still goes through with it, gets a top edge which Khan takes it with ease moving to his left. Kolkata are 4 down now and we're not even done with the Powerplay.
5.5 : 5.5: A Khan to S Gill, FOUR! Superb shot! Full on off, Gill knows what he wants to do here. He lofts it over mid off cleanly and finds the fence.
6.4 : 6.4: L Plunkett to D Karthik, SIX! Short boundary over on the leg side and that's gone all the way. Short ball, angling down, Karthik pulls it over backward square leg and clears the rope for half a dozen.
8.3 : 8.3: V Shankar to S Gill, SIX! What a delightful shot! Fuller from Shankar, on off, Gill picks his spot and lofts it over long off with a clean strike. Very well hit.
9.3: A Mishra to D Karthik, OUT! First wicket of the season for Amit Mishra! He is delighted with this. Tosses it up close to off, Karthik looks to clear the infield over covers by opening his body up a bit but is undone by the extra spin. Ends up slicing it towards point where Trent Boult takes one of the simplest catches he's ever taken. Half the side back in the hut for the visitors now. They need 143 in 63 balls.
9.5 : 9.5: A Mishra to S Gill, FOUR! Superb placement and timing from Shubman Gill. Did not hit that with too much power at all. Just helps the pull through mid-wicket, beating the two men out in the deep for a boundary.
10.3 : 10.3: L Plunkett to A Russell, FOUR! Muscled that! Right in the gap. Andre Russell is a monster. Picks up the slower one this time, it's on a back of a length and then powers it with a pull through mid-wicket, bisecting the gap between the two men in the deep.
11.5 : 11.5: A Khan to A Russell, SIX! That's almost out of the Feroz Shah Kotla! Short of a length on off, not that short but it's all the same to Russell. He just stands tall and muscles it deep into the mid-wicket stands for a biggie.
11.6 : 11.6: A Khan to A Russell, SIX! The 100 is up with that. Monstrous hit from a renowned monster. From around the wicket, Khan bowls it on a back of a length. Russell clears his front leg and heaves it deeper into the mid-wicket stands. 2nd tier this time. What a hit.
12.2 : 12.2: T Boult to A Russell, SIX! BOOM! That's outta here. Full attacking the stumps, Russell gets his front leg out of the way and smokes it straight back down the ground for a maximum.
12.3 : 12.3: T Boult to A Russell, FOUR! Smart batting from Dre Russ! Uses the angle, uses the pace and puts it away. Short ball going away, Russell rises and steers it over backward point for a boundary.
13.1 : 13.1: A Mishra to S Gill, FOUR! Goes against the spin and gets the desired result. Gill takes a step out to the floated ball and lofts it over mid-wicket for a boundary.
14.2 : 14.2: R Tewatia to A Russell, SIX! Goes with the spin and clears the fence with ease. Whoa! So much power in that shot. Tossed up outside off, Russell plants his front foot across and lifts it over the cover fence for half a dozen.
14.3 : 14.3: R Tewatia to A Russell, FOUR! Now a boundary. Too full on off, Russell gets low and bangs it right back over the bowler's head to send it crashing into the ad boards.
15.3: A Mishra to A Russell, OUT! Much-needed breakthrough for Delhi. They break the 64-run stand just at the right time. Russell cuts this towards backward point and sets off for a run. His partner hesitates in taking off after coming a few steps down the track. Meanwhile, Iyer charges to the ball and fires in a throw to Pant who whips the bails off quickly. Taken upstairs and the replays show even the dive hasn't saved Gill. He departs rather unfortunately after a good knock. That hesitation c
15.6 : 15.6: A Mishra to S Mavi, OUT! Mishra has his second of the over. Lovely. Bowls it short and it's the wrong 'un. Keeps a bit low as Mavi goes back to play across the line. It goes under his bat and takes the leg stump. Mishra ends with figures of 4-1-23-2. A superb spell from the leggie.
17.5 : 17.5: A Khan to A Russell, OUT! Russell's blistering knock comes to an end. Avesh Khan is right on the money. Excellent yorker on middle stump, can't get any more perfect than that. Russell makes room, shows all three stumps as he tries to hit. Misses and his furniture is rocked in all directions. All but over now for Kolkata, if it already wasn't.
18.2 : 18.2: G Maxwell to P Chawla, OUT! That's a superb catch from Munro in the deep. On the stumps, Chawla slogs this over square leg. It's travelling flat and towards Colin Munro, who judges the ball well before leaping and taking it above his head.
18.4 : 18.4: G Maxwell to K Yadav, FOUR! On the pads, Yadav works it fine down the leg side with a sweep. Beats short fine leg and gets a boundary.
19.5 : 19.5: T Boult to M Johnson, FOUR! Too full, Johnson creams the drive through the covers and sends it across the boundary line. Good timing on that.
19.6 : 19.6: T Boult to M Johnson, FOUR! Ends the innings with a couple of boundaries, but to no avail in the grand scheme of things. DELHI WIN BY 55 RUNS! A big one for them. Johnson flicks it over the mid-wicket area and finds the fence. Smiles return in the Delhi dugout.
