Dengue on decline in Delhi but keep up your guard

With the onset of winters, Dengue cases in the capital have started showing a declining trend.

As against an average of twenty and above cases being reported daily till last month, now the count has gone down to three or four, Dr VK Monga, MCD health committee chairman, said.

"Only three people have tested positive for dengue fever in the past 24 hours. With this the total count of dengue cases in the city has risen to 1,114," Dr Monga said.

"Dengue has become a cause of worry as the epidemiology of dengue fever is changing. The last death due to dengue fever was reported after the onset of winters, on November 17 here. So even in winters people should keep their premises clean," he said.

Another mosquito-borne disease, chikungunya, too continues to be reported from different hospitals in Delhi. The total number of chikungunya cases till now has reached the 100 mark, he said.

Japanese Encephalitis, common in the neighbouring states, surfaced for the first time in the city after four people tested positive in October.
