I’m the chosen one, says Preetika Rao

It took Mumbai-based model Preetika Rao innumerable advertisement deals before the film industry finally took notice of her. And the good news is that her first film is finally out.

The pretty face has got herself a substantial space in the recently released Tamil film, Chikku Bukku, which also stars Arya and Shriya Saran.

Incidentally, this role, that has catapulted Preetika to fame, was initially offered to Bollywood beauty Vidya Balan.

“I was aware of the fact that Vidya was offered the role, but since she had date issues, she could not take it up. I’m just glad I got the opportunity to work with the team instead. I couldn’t have asked for a better launch. I play a simple girl-next-door and therefore, was able to relate to the story well,” says Preetika.

Shot in the southern regions of Tamilnadu — Karaikudi, Preetika recalls, “Our set was packed with children from the village. It was such a fun experience to shoot at the quaint heritage town,” she says.

Considering the fact that her sister Amrita Rao has made Bollywood her home, are there any traces of sibling rivalry back home? “Not at all. In fact, Amrita is very happy about my career choice. Since she’s been in the industry for 10 years, her experiences help me perceive this industry far better than any newcomer. We’ve promised each other that we will not discuss each others films before the release. I hope my character in Chikku Bukku proves to be a surprise for her,” she signs off.
