Dhoni and Zoozoo rakhis, anyone?

The strings that bind get eclectic and funky. From going traditional with zardosi to going fan-centric with your favourite icon.

Dhoni and Zoozoo rakhis, anyone?

The sheer variety of innovative rakhis available in markets today have made a sister’s mission to find that perfect rakhi a lot simpler.

If the mythological characters and superhero (Superman, Spiderman) rakhis ruled the markets last season, Zoozoo  characters are holding the fort this year. “The Zoozoo rakhis have been selling like hot cakes ever since they were  introduced in the markets. We’ve been selling around 150 of them every day,” says Ganesh Sawant, a stall owner in Dadar.

At market places like Bhuleshwar, it is cartoon rakhis all the way. “Kids love them and they are quite affordable too at Rs 20.” If you are a TV serial addict, then a Balika Vadhu rakhi is up your street. There are rakhis that also cater to the cricket-crazy ones with various cricketers on it. ““We have special IPL rakhis featuring cricketers from all teams. But again, the maximum demand is for the Dhoni rakhi.”

Adding to the rakhi trends are the diamond and platinum rakhis for adults. “The designs are contemporary and of the highest quality,” said Nitin Goenka, director of a renowned diamond company. While designer Ritu Seksaria has rakhis made of special mouli thread and have intricate designs with pearls and zardosi work. With such a variety on offer, sisters are now spoilt for choice!
