‘Utsav no longer an NID student’

The National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad, has decided not to take any action against Utsav Sharma who attacked former Haryana DGP, SPS Rathore, in Chandigarh on Monday.

Institute officials said that there was little they could do in the matter as Sharma, who was enrolled in the post-graduate course in animation film design, is no more a regular student of the institute.

NID’s activity chairperson of professional education programmes, Akhil Succena, said that what happened in Chandigarh on Monday had nothing to do with the institute.

“Sharma is a good student,” Succena said. “If he comes back to the institute and submits his diploma project in time, he should be allowed to go ahead with it.”

The registrar of NID, Vijaya Deshmukh, gave the information that Sharma had not applied for extension of his term with the institute after October 2008. “As Sharma is not a regular student of the institute anymore, the question whether NID will take any action against him, is irrelevant,” she said.
