Netherlands finish on 158/4 and the momentum is with them going into the second innings as this looks an above par score on this wicket. Ireland lost their bearings a bit in the last 5 overs as they conceded 56 runs.
The innings started off slowly for the Dutch as they lost the wickets of Max O'Dowd and Colin Ackermann inside the Powerplay. They scored just 33 off the first 6 overs and Ireland were on top. Skipper Seelar and Ben Cooper steadied the ship but Seelar departed after scoring just 21 runs. Ben Cooper looked sluggish out in the middle and he too departed as he looked to go big in the end. The impetus at the end was provided by Ryan Ten Doeschate and Roelof van der Merwe as they made a quickfire 56-
Boyd Rankin and Gareth Delany were the standout bowlers for Ireland as they kept the run-scoring in check. Both of them bagged a wicket as well. Craig Young was also good as he picked up 2 wickets but his final over in which the Dutch scored 19 runs can prove to be the turning point.
Ryan Campbell, the Dutch coach is in for a chat. On the total, Campbell says that he is happy with the total they have on the board. On Ryan's batting along with van der Merwe, Campbell states that that both of them are very experienced players and they inspire others in the side. Says that there were a couple of ups and downs in the tournament but terms this unit as one of the best Dutch sides. A little flourish from Dockrell but it came too late for Ireland. The Irish openers started the run chase well by adding 52 runs in 7 overs. However, van der Merwe dismissed both the openers in consecutive balls to peg back the run chase. Gareth Delany and Andy Balbirnie added 32 runs for the third wicket stand but a 2-wicket Klaassen over saw Ireland falling flat. Once the stand was broken, the Irish innings never got going. As for the Netherlands bowlers, Roelof van der Merwe and Pieter Seelaar were the pick. The skipper led the way as he took 3 wickets and stopped the momentum in the middle overs after a good start. Van der Merwe dismissed the openers off consecutive balls and that proved to be the crucial point of the game. Fred Klaasen also bowled well as he picked up a couple of wickets.
Earlier in the day, Netherlands got to an above par total of 158 runs on a surface which was not too good for batting. Ryan ten Doeschate was the aggressor-in-chief as he along with van der Merwe scored 56 runs in the final 5 overs. Rankin was the pick of the bowlers but the end of the Dutch innings proved pivotal in the context of the match.
Roelof van der Merwe has been given the Man of the Match award for his all-around performance. On his batting, Roelof says that there was bounce on the wicket early on and batting wasn't that easy. Mentions that batting with someone as experienced as Ryan ten Doeschate is fun. Adds the bowlers tried to hit the length hard and that helped them. Furthers says that he is elated to be playing the finals of the tournament.
Ireland skipper, Gary Wilson, says that after winning the toss, they were disappointed as they allowed the Netherlands to score a big total. Adds that the Netherlands were excellent throughout the game and feels they deserve to be in the finals of this tournament. Believes that they were positive about chasing the total down but felt that they conceded about 20 runs extra. Mentions that playing in the heat of UAE has been tough.
Pieter Seelaar, the Dutch skipper, says that he is a happy skipper. On Ryan ten Doeschate's batting, Seelaar says that they look to be flexible. Says that Ryan can play in any situation and with van der Merwe lower down the order, they are superb and things become easy for his side. On their bowling, Seelaar says that the bowlers were excellent. On his captaincy, the Dutch skipper says that they do not have any set formula but they go with the situation.
