Commentary :
0.0 : Hello and welcome to the 2nd Test between Australia and India from Perth. The team in Blue will be high on confidence after taking a 1-0 lead in the 4-match Test series. With the bowlers doing their job, Virat will like his batters to contribute a bit more and score big. Coming to the home team, they have a lot to worry, especially their batting. Their batting has been a failure and Paine would like his top order to score heavy runs if they want to level in this series. Should be an intriguing T
This is the first ever Test match at this venue, with Optus hosting just one ODI between Australia and South Africa not too long ago. There has been just one First-Class match over here, hence, there is not much data to fall back on.
WEATHER - It is a hot day in Perth and the conditions are expected to worsen as the match goes on.
PITCH REPORT - Michael Vaughan doing the pitch report expects plenty of movement and bounce with a lot of grass around. But does not want to take the spinners for granted and expects them to come good as well.
TOSS - We are ready for the spin of the coin. Isa Guha is with the captains. Tim Paine flips the coin, Heads is the call from Virat Kohli but it is a Tail. AUSTRALIA ELECT TO BAT FIRST.
Australian skipper, Tim Paine, says that it is a very warm day and is looking behind at the Shield game (domestic match) last week. Expects the workload on the quicks to be heavy with the weather expected to get hotter during the Test. On the tough schedule, Paine says that it is the way it is these days and players have to adjust for a quick turnaround. Does not want to focus on the last loss and insists that the team is out to win and level the series.
Indian captain, Virat Kohli, says that he would have batted first as well but does not feel it is a bad toss to lose on a green wicket. Now wants his side to bowl well. On the track, Kohli says that he saw an ODI on this wicket where the seamers made merry. Feels nice to watch how the wicket plays and bat second. Does not want his side to be complacent and given the Adelaide Test, he understands that nothing is going to be given easy. Wants his unit to learn from the mistakes committed in the fi
The players are out in the middle. Aaron Finch and Marcus Harris comes out to bat for Australia. Ishant Sharma will start the proceedings.

0.2 : I Sharma to Harris, Length delivery around off, Harris lets it go to the keeper.
0.3 : I Sharma to Harris, Good delivery that. Fuller delivery swings away a bit. Marcus goes for the drive but fails to do so. Swing on offer here for Ishant.
Before the over began, Ishant Sharma was checking his runup. He was very angry with himself over the no balls in the previous Test.
0.4 : I Sharma to Harris, Length delivery this time on off, MH defends it off the front foot and onto the ground.
0.5 : I Sharma to Harris, Length delivery around off, Harris shoulders arms to it.

1.4 : J Bumrah to Finch, Back of a length on off, Finch taps it to point for a run.
1.5 : J Bumrah to Harris, Bumrah bowls it full around off, Harris does not need to play at those.
1.6 : J Bumrah to Harris, A tad fuller on off, Harris drives it firmly but straight to the cover fielder.
2.1 : I Sharma to Finch, Full and wide outside off, Finch lunges and shoulders arms.
2.2 : I Sharma to Finch, Good running. That is the second time he has done that in the last 3 balls. Full and just outside off, Aaron presses forward and pushes it towards cover for a quick single.
2.3 : I Sharma to Harris, Length delivery on off, Harris taps it to the point region.
2.4 : I Sharma to Harris, Good length delivery from Ishant on off, MH lets it be.
2.5 : I Sharma to Harris, Fuller delivery on middle, Harris defends it by presenting the full face of the bat.
2.6 : I Sharma to Harris, Bowls it wayyy down leg. A touch short of a good length down the leg side, Harris looks to pull but misses out on a boundary ball. Rishabh Pant does really well to dive to his right to stop it.
3.1 : J Bumrah to A Finch, Fuller delivery from Bumrah on middle, Finch flicks it towards mid on for a couple of runs.
3.2 : J Bumrah to Finch, Good delivery that on off. Aaron shoulders arms to it.
3.3 : J Bumrah to Finch, Back of a length on middle, Finch defends it off the back foot and onto the ground.
3.4 : J Bumrah to Finch, Super delivery that from Bumrah. It was a tad full around off, Finch goes for the drive but fails to do so. Finch was lucky not to get the outside edge of the bat.
3.5 : J Bumrah to Finch, Another brilliant delivery from Bumrah. Bowls it full outside off, Finch tries to flick it but it goes between the bat and the pad.
3.6 : J Bumrah to Finch, Fuller this time on middle, Finch works it to the leg side for a run. Good probing over from Bumrah comes to an end.
4.1 : I Sharma to Finch, On a length around off, Finch gets across to flick but misses as he falls over. Is hit high on the pads.
4.2 : I Sharma to Finch, Full and outside off, Aaron looks to drive but there is no feet movement. The ball rolls off the inner half back to the bowler.
4.3 : I Sharma to Finch, Defended off the front foot by the batsman presenting the full face of the bat.
4.4 : I Sharma to Finch, That is a good ball but perhaps the length is too short on this type of a pitch. Outside off, AF walks into the shot and looks to defend but misses.
4.5 : I Sharma to Finch, Slips this down the leg side, Finch misses his flick. Another boundary-scoring opportunity goes by.
4.6 : I Sharma to Finch, Full and perhaps a bit too straight, pushed towards mid on.
5.1 : J Bumrah to M Harris, Good length delivery from Bumrah, Harris tries to tap it towards point but gets an inside onto the pads.
5.2 : J Bumrah to Harris, Fuller delivery around off, Harris lets it go to the keeper.
5.3 : J Bumrah to Harris, Length delivery outside off, Harris lets it be.
5.4 : J Bumrah to Harris, Harris off the mark after 15 balls. It was bowled full down leg, Harris clips it to the fine leg region for a run.
5.5 : J Bumrah to Finch, Back of a length on middle, Aaron defends it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.
5.6 : J Bumrah to Finch, FOUR! Streaky but effective. Back of a length around off, Finch opens the face of the bat and guides it towards gully and the ball races away to the fence.
6.1 : I Sharma to Harris, FOUR! Errs in line and length and gets the punishment for it. Bowls it full down leg, Harris tickles it fine off his pads and the ball races away to the boundary.
6.2 : I Sharma to Harris, NO BALL! Length delivery around off. Harris lets it be. Umpire calls it no ball for overstepping. Ishant needs to be careful with his no balls. He has the habit of over stepping.
I Sharma to Harris, Fuller length outside off, Harris does not need to play at those.
6.3 : I Sharma to Harris, Length delivery on middle, Harris defends it with a straight bat.
6.4 : I Sharma to Harris, FOUR! It was bowled full on middle, MH stylishly drives it straight past the bowler and the ball races away to the boundary. Good shot that from Harris.
6.5 : I Sharma to Harris, FOUR! Make it two in two ball. Identical delivery, Harris again drives it straight past the bowler for a boundary. Good positive batting from the opener.
6.6 : I Sharma to Harris, BEATEN! Good length delivery around off, Harris tries to push it towards point but was beaten by the pace of the delivery. But a good over for the Aussies. Three boundaries from the over.
Bumrah comes charging in but Finch moves away. Either he was not ready or got distracted with Kohli shouting from behind. The Indian captain is eager for a short leg. Now that man comes.
7.1 : J Bumrah to Finch, Full and around off, watchfully defended.
7.2 : J Bumrah to A Finch, Around off, Finch opens the face of his bat slightly and pushes it towards Ajinkya Rahane at gully.
7.3 : J Bumrah to Finch, Comes in from outside off, a long way in, Aaron pushes it watchfully towards the bowler.
7.4 : J Bumrah to Finch, Nice and compact from Aaron. Pushes it towards cover and gets across to the other end for a quick single.
7.5 : J Bumrah to Harris, Full and outside off, driven straight to mid off.
7.6 : J Bumrah to Harris, Landed outside off, Harris shuffles across and lets it go.
Umesh Yadav into the attack now.
8.1 : U Yadav to Finch, Starts off with a fuller delivery around off, Finch shoulders arms to it.
8.2 : U Yadav to Finch, Similar delivery on middle, Finch lets it go.
8.3 : U Yadav to Finch, Back of a length on middle, Aaron defends it from within the crease.
8.4 : U Yadav to Finch, A tad fuller on off, Finch guides it to the point region.
8.5 : U Yadav to A Finch, Length delivery on off, Finch taps it to the point region. Finch goes for a run. The fielder at the point has a shy at the stumps but Finch is comfortably home.
8.6 : U Yadav to Finch, Fuller delivery on middle, Aaron pushes it towards point, Finch goes for the run. Pujara then has a shy at the non- strikers end but the batsmen make it home and get a run as well. There was no fielder to back it up and the batsmen get another couple of runs there in that process.
9.1 : J Bumrah to Finch, Excellent running but lack of match awareness from Cheteshwar Pujara. A bit too straight from Bumrah, Finch clips it through mid-wicket and calls for two. Pujara gets to the ball and then lazily turns around. Now, the openers have a look at his approach and then at each other. They start to run the third but Cheteshwar still does not release the ball. He jogs a couple of steps and then throws, which allows the third to be completed easily.
9.2 : J Bumrah to Harris, Outside off, on a length, left alone.
9.3 : J Bumrah to M Harris, Well bowled, well played. A short ball outside off, coming in with the angle, Harris looks to defend but suddenly the ball bounces sharply. He is taken aback but does well to drop his wrists and play it onto the ground. The ball takes the outside edge but does not stay in contact with the air for long. Goes on three bounces to the gully fielder.
Is that a boundary? Or has superman Kohli stopped the ball?
9.4 : J Bumrah to Harris, Terrific effort from Virat Kohli. Full and outside off, Harris leans into the shot and drives it through the covers. The ball almost races to the boundary and Kohli and Umesh Yadav chase it in pairs. The skipper gets to the ball, dives and then flicks it back. It rolls back in, but the third umpire does not check that in the replays whether it touches the ropes. All he checks is whether Virat stopped the ball before it reached the boundary which he did. Three runs given.
9.5 : J Bumrah to Finch, Full and outside off, coming in with the angle, left alone.
9.6 : J Bumrah to Finch, Around off and outside off, solidly defended.
10.1 : U Yadav to Harris, Back of a length around off. Harris lets it be.
10.2 : U Yadav to Harris, Harris drives it straight past the bowler and towards mid off for a boundary.
10.3 : U Yadav to Harris, Length delivery around off, Harris lets it be.
10.4 : U Yadav to Harris, Back of a length outside off, Harris shoulders arms to it.
10.5 : U Yadav to Harris, On middle, MH defends it with a straight bat.
10.6 : U Yadav to M Harris, FOUR! Edged away. On a length outside off, Harris feels for it but the ball away, takes the outside edge and goes past gully to the third man fence.
Mohammed Shami into the attack as well.
Review time! India are confident that Finch is plumb LBW. Looks mighty close.
11.1 : M Shami to Finch, NOT OUT! MISSING THE STUMPS! Hmmm... the Perth bounce.
11.2 : M Shami to Finch, Another LBW appeal belched out. Turned down again. Kohli asks for the review once more. This time, Shami himself is not interested. Similar ball to the previous one, coming in with the angle, Aaron misses his flick again, getting hit on the pads. Again, the umpire is unmoved. Height was the factor again. This time though, Hawk Eye showed it to be clipping the top of middle stump.
11.3 : M Shami to Finch, The batsman has played that off the front foot and into the ground.
11.4 : M Shami to Finch, Full and around off, watchfully defended.
11.5 : M Shami to Finch, Defended off the front foot by the batsman presenting the full face of the bat.
11.6 : M Shami to Finch, Around off, well blocked out.
12.1 : U Yadav to Harris, Full and outside off, watchfully defended.
12.2 : U Yadav to Harris, The batsman has played that off the front foot and into the ground.
12.3 : U Yadav to Harris, Around off, solidly defended.
12.4 : U Yadav to Harris, Outside off, on a length, Harris feels for it but the ball moves away off the seam, beating the outside edge.
12.5 : U Yadav to Harris, The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.
12.6 : U Yadav to Harris, Full and around middle and leg, Marcus flicks but slips as well in his followthrough. Gets it through mid-wicket. Takes a couple, wants the third but Aaron Finch slips at the other end and the openers abort the thought.
13.1 : M Shami to Finch, Full and outside off, Finch looks to drive but the ball goes off the inner half of the bat back to the bowler.
13.2 : M Shami to Finch, Around off, tight line, well blocked out.
13.3 : M Shami to Finch, Similar ball, Aaron comes forward again and defends once more.
13.4 : M Shami to Finch, Landed outside off, left alone.
13.5 : M Shami to Finch, Landed just outside off, Aaron comes forward and blocks again.
13.6 : M Shami to Finch, Landed outside off, AF knows where his off stump is and shoulders arms.
14.1 : U Yadav to Harris, On the pads, Harris flicks it through mid-wicket. Hanuma Vihari gives it a good chase and keeps the batsmen in their crease as they look for the third, with a sharp throw to the keeper.
14.2 : U Yadav to Harris, BRAVE LEAVE! Close leave! My word, either Harris trusts the bounce on this wicket or he did not expect that ball to come in. It was pitched outside off, on a length and the Victorian shouldered arms. But to his alarm, the cherry came back in a long way and went off something to the keeper, which not surprisingly, prompted an appeal. Replays show that it clipped the left pocket of his trouser.
14.3 : U Yadav to Harris, Around off, solidly defended.
14.4 : U Yadav to Harris, Similar ball to the one bowled a couple of deliveries ago, this time Marcus defends.
14.5 : U Yadav to M Harris, FOUR! What a shot. Not an easy one to play at all, especially with that height. David Warner usually plays that shot, but with both feet in the air. Harris though, has his feet grounded. Fractionally short of a length outside off, Marcus arches back, goes down a touch and plays a punch through the point zone. The best part about it was that the ball was not aerial at all. 50-RUN STAND COMES UP. At a good rate too.
14.6 : U Yadav to Harris, Around off, well blocked out.
15.1 : M Shami to Finch, Huge shout for LBW again. Not out once more. Kohli asks Shami for a review. The bowler shakes his head. On a length outside off, comes back in a long way after pitching. Finch misses his tuck and is hit on the pads, slightly above the knee roll. Definitely a touch high but the impact might have been outside off as well.
15.2 : M Shami to Finch, Around off, solidly defended.
15.3 : M Shami to Finch, 'YEAHHH, NOOOOOOOOOOO!' is the call from Finch. You never take Kohli on so often. Full and outside off, Aaron pushes it through cover-point, sets off for a single as he first sees point going to his right. But the next second, he observes Virat Kohli moving swiftly to his left and he quickly changes his mind.
15.4 : M Shami to Finch, Around off, pushed towards mid on.
15.5 : M Shami to Finch, Landed outside off, shouldered arms to.
15.6 : M Shami to Finch, Nicely set up. After bowling outswingers, Shami shapes this one in. Finch though is prepared for it and clips it through mid-wicket for a single.
16.1 : U Yadav to Finch, Good ball, lovely shot, excellent fielding! Great cricket all around. Full and straight, hitting the stumps but for the bat coming in between. Finch drives it with an absolute straight bat. The ball goes like a rocket down the ground but Umesh sticks out his right leg and deflects the ball to cover.
16.2 : U Yadav to A Finch, Another lovely drive, this time towards mid on.
16.3 : U Yadav to Finch, The batsman has driven it towards mid on.
16.4 : U Yadav to A Finch, Full and outside off, Aaron drives it through the covers where Hanuma Vihari dives to his right and parries it wide of mid off. But the batsmen do not run.
16.5 : U Yadav to Finch, Around off, defended from the crease.
16.6 : U Yadav to Finch, Outside off, coming in, let go.
17.1 : M Shami to Harris, Down the leg side, coming in, Harris tucks it towards fine leg for a single.
17.2 : M Shami to Finch, Around off, coming in, Finch looks to defend but the ball goes off the inside edge. Harris spots that the fielder at short mid-wicket is a touch stationary and immediately calls for the single. Good awareness.
17.3 : M Shami to Harris, Outside off, left alone.
17.4 : M Shami to Harris, One more leave outside off.
17.5 : M Shami to Harris, Defended off the front foot by the batsman presenting the full face of the bat.
17.6 : M Shami to Harris, Around off, pushed to the off side.
Jasprit Bumrah into the attack now. 5-0-20-0 so far. The 12th man has just come onto the ground with some drinks. A very, very hot day.
18.1 : J Bumrah to Finch, Landed outside off, left alone.
18.2 : J Bumrah to A Finch, Bad ball but Finch misses out. Short and wide outside off, begging to be hit, Aaron goes for the cut but a bit half-heartedly. Hanuma Vihari at point does a favour on his bowler by diving to his left and parrying it to gully.
18.3 : J Bumrah to Finch, Close shave! On a length outside off, Aaron looks to play that through the off side but is tentative again. The ball takes the inside edge and narrowly misses the leg stump, en route square leg. A single taken.
18.4 : J Bumrah to Harris, Around off, solidly defended.
18.5 : J Bumrah to Harris, Fuller and straighter, Marcus blocks it out watchfully.
18.6 : J Bumrah to Harris, Around off, cutting in off the seam, helped towards fine leg for a run.
Double change. Ishant Sharma is back on from the Justin Langer end. 4-2-14-0 so far.
19.1 : I Sharma to Harris, Starts off nicely, with a full ball around off, solidly defended.
19.2 : I Sharma to Harris, Probably a touch slower, outside off, fuller in length, Harris lets it go.
19.3 : I Sharma to Harris, Around middle and leg, well blocked out.
19.4 : I Sharma to Harris, Full and outside off, Marcus gets a good stride forward, leans for the cover drive and plays that shot but probably a touch early. The ball hits the inner half of the bat and goes towards mid off.
19.5 : I Sharma to Harris, Landed outside off, angling away, left alone.
19.6 : I Sharma to Harris, Misses out once more. Again, either Ishant is deliberately bowling slow or Harris not able to pick the change in pace. Another half volley, should have been driven through the covers, MH looks to drive it through the covers too. But just that change in pace is what he does not account for. As a result, the ball hits the bottom part of the bat and rolls towards mid off.
20.1 : J Bumrah to Finch, First real loose shot from Finch. The runs have dried up since Drinks and he is feeling frustrated. Full and outside off, Aaron looks to drive, without actually moving his feet. Almost a reminiscence of the way he got cleaned up by Ishant in Adelaide in the first innings. Is lucky this time because the ball misses the outside edge.
20.2 : J Bumrah to Finch, Dangling the carrot again, full and outside off, but this time AF decides not to go for shopping or fishing. Lets it go. Good decision too. Swings away after pitching.
20.3 : J Bumrah to Finch, The batsman defends it from within the crease.
20.4 : J Bumrah to Finch, Around off, solidly defended.
20.5 : J Bumrah to Finch, Landed outside off, left alone.
20.6 : J Bumrah to Finch, Landed outside off, let through.
21.1 : I Sharma to Harris, Around off, defended watchfully.
21.2 : I Sharma to Harris, A short ball outside off, Harris now plays a shot in anger. Looks to pull but misses.
21.3 : I Sharma to Harris, Outside off, left alone.
21.4 : I Sharma to Harris, On a length outside off, Marcus gets on top of the bounce and punches it through the covers but cannot quite get the gap. Finds the fielder.
A gem from Harsha Bhogle on air. 'The boundaries in the 90s used to be so far that you needed to hire a rickshaw to get the ball back from the boundary!' No one laughs though. Probably no one got the pun or the joke.
21.5 : I Sharma to Harris, Landed outside off, fuller in length, left alone.
21.6 : I Sharma to Harris, Another one outside off, let through once again. That is the 5th maiden in the last 9 overs. Third on the trot. India piling on the pressure.
22.1 : J Bumrah to Finch, That is what happens when pressure mounts. T10 or T20 specialists cannot quite resist themselves. The patience is ticking over for both the Victorians here. Full and outside off, Finch looks to drive but misses. No feet movement.
22.2 : J Bumrah to Finch, And again! Another play and a miss. Similar ball, Aaron looks to drive again but gets beaten once more.
22.3 : J Bumrah to Finch, Outside off, Aaron pushes it towards point.
22.4 : J Bumrah to A Finch, EDGED, FOUR! A run after a string of 21 dots. On a length outside off, Finch looks to drive but the ball moves away, takes the outside edge, albeit going onto the ground. Lokesh Rahul dives to his right at second slip but the ball is well wide of him and races to the third man fence. Would not have carried to the third slip fielder, even if he had been there.
22.5 : J Bumrah to Finch, Landed outside off, Aaron looks to drive but misses.
22.6 : J Bumrah to Finch, Around off, another tight line, AF looks to defend but gets a thick inside edge onto his pads.
23.1 : I Sharma to Harris, Full and miles outside off, left alone.
23.2 : I Sharma to Harris, Half volley outside off, driven towards mid off.
23.3 : I Sharma to Harris, Outside off, tapped towards point for a quick single.
23.4 : I Sharma to Finch, Full and around off, cutting in, nicely played down the ground. There is mid on but Kohli from mid off gets to the ball quicker and the batsmen are restricted to a run.
23.5 : I Sharma to Harris, Full and outside off, too full to be driven, hence Marcus gets a bottom edge.
23.6 : I Sharma to Harris, Landed outside off, left alone.
24.1 : J Bumrah to Finch, Full and outside off, driven straight to cover.
24.2 : J Bumrah to Finch, Landed outside off, left alone.
24.3 : J Bumrah to Finch, Full and outside off, Finch defends solidly again.
24.4 : J Bumrah to Finch, Around off, Aaron looks to defend but the ball comes back in sharply, hits the inside edge and rolls towards mid-wicket.
24.5 : J Bumrah to Finch, Around off again, driven back to the bowler. Bumrah looks to stop by getting low to his right but he slips. Gets up gingerly but looks okay.
24.6 : J Bumrah to Finch, Defended off the front foot by the batsman presenting the full face of the bat.
Mohammed Shami time. The clock has ticked 12.20 pm local but we shall have one more over before Lunch.
25.1 : M Shami to Harris, Full and outside off, pushed through the covers for a single.
25.2 : M Shami to Finch, A bit too straight, Finch looks to flick but misses. Shami starts to appeal but then bails out. The ball goes off Aaron's pads towards square leg and the batsmen take a run.
25.3 : M Shami to Harris, The batsman shows the full face of the bat and defends the ball off the back foot.
25.4 : M Shami to Harris, Landed outside off, let through.
25.5 : M Shami to Harris, One more leave outside off.
25.6 : M Shami to Harris, This is miles outside off, an easy leave for the batsman. LUNCH ON DAY 1, AUSTRALIA 66/0!
Unbelievable opening session for Australia. Though India pulled it back nicely after Drinks, but it has been the hosts' session. They set the tone in the first hour, going at nearly 4 an over and then have been cautious enough to not throw it away.
A day ago, you could not actually spot the difference between the outfield and the pitch - it was so green. Though some of the grass has been shaved off, there is plenty of movement on this track. However, India could not quite make use of the new ball when it was hooping around. They have now reverted to the basics - bowling tight lines and lengths and inducing false strokes.
Round 1 to Australia then. They have curbed their attacking instincts and have not got carried away. Though, they need to be a touch careful about getting frustrated as well. The last hour before Lunch was a testing period for them and so will be the first hour after the break. Considering the form that this batting line-up has shown, the opposition is never far from forging a collapse. Join us back at 1 pm local (0500 GMT).
... DAY 1, SESSION 2 ...
Out come the players. The Indian take the field, followed by the Victorian pair of Harris and Finch. Umesh Yadav to start off proceedings for this session. 5-1-19-0 so far.

27.4 : M Shami to Harris, FOUR! Ho ho ho! Second of the over! Full and outside off again, plenty of width this time, Harris leans and drives it gloriously through the covers once more!

29.6 : M Shami to Finch, FOUR! Fine way to end the over! A bit short of a length outside off, Finch punches it through the covers and gets a boundary!

30.3 : U Yadav to Harris, Around off, solidly defended.

32.1 : U Yadav to Harris, Full and around off, well defended.
32.2 : U Yadav to Harris, Landed outside off, left alone.
32.3 : U Yadav to Harris, FIVE WIDES! Harsh on Umesh. A sharp bouncer, around middle, Harris ducks but the ball shoots up after landing. Poor Rishabh Pant leaps a furlong but the ball escapes his outstretched right glove.
U Yadav to Harris, Outside off, left alone.
32.4 : U Yadav to Harris, A bouncer around middle, Harris ducks again. This time the bounce is not that high.

Hanuma Vihari into the attack now.
34.1 : H Vihari to A Finch, Starts off with a rank half-volley outside off, Finch leans into it and drives it through the covers all the way for four.
34.2 : H Vihari to A Finch, Two in two, full and wide outside off again, Finch has no half-measures in this one as he drives it slightly more square this time for four. Poor start from Hanuma.
34.3 : H Vihari to Finch, Shortens the length, and immediately a doubt in Finch's mind. He prods at it and pushes it to point.
34.4 : H Vihari to A Finch, Another outside edge on this ball, the ball runs towards backward point. Good comeback from Vihari after the first two balls.
34.5 : H Vihari to Finch, FIFTY! 2nd Test fifty for Finch! Ball is wide outside off, Finch calmly pats it away to point and trudges to the other end to bring up his fifty. Looked very pokey in the beginning but has settled down well in the last 30 minutes or so.
34.6 : H Vihari to Harris, Full and defended away easily by Harris.
Jasprit Bumrah is back into the attack now.
35.1 : J Bumrah to Finch, A loud appeal! But the ball seems to be going over the stumps with the length being short on this occasion. Starts on middle and the ball holds its line and raps Finch who is on the back foot. India think about reviewing but decide against it, mostly because they have only 1 review left.
35.2 : J Bumrah to Finch, OUT! The first finally one goes. Finch seems to have been trapped plumb in front here. There was conviction in the appeal and yes, the finger goes up too. The ball was fuller and landed just outside off and tails in a bit after landing. Finch completely misses it and gets hit in front of middle. Doesn't go upstairs. Finch goes for 50. Replays show that the ball was going on to hit the middle of middle stump. A good decision not to review, looked plumb to the naked eye a
Usman Khawaja is the next batsman in.
35.3 : J Bumrah to Khawaja, Beaten first ball! The ball is doing things suddenly for Bumrah. He looked a little inconsistent in the morning but the last three balls have been on point. This one is just outside off and is too good for a batsman first up. Khawaja tries to feel for the ball but is lucky not to get an outside edge on it.
35.4 : J Bumrah to Khawaja, Well outside off this time, the batsman leaves it alone.
35.5 : J Bumrah to Khawaja, Another one which is left alone by Usman, Bumrah is getting the ball to speed through now.
35.6 : J Bumrah to Khawaja, Woah! Another play and miss! Khawaja prods at this one short and outside off tentatively and the ball tails away after landing just a shade to beat the outside edge. Good bowling by Bumrah.

37.1 : J Bumrah to Khawaja, Continues around the wicket, outside off and on a good length, Khawaja decides to let it go through.
37.2 : J Bumrah to Khawaja, Slightly fuller in length, seems like a surprise delivery after 3-4 short balls in a row. Khawaja does well to bring his bat down in time and defend to mid on.
37.3 : J Bumrah to Khawaja, Back to the short length, Usman jumps a bit as he defends this off the back foot and into the ground on the off side.
37.4 : J Bumrah to Khawaja, This one is outside off and comes in with the angle. The left-hander covers the swing and then lets it go through to the keeper.

38.1 : I Sharma to Harris, Around the wicket from Ishant, it is on a length and holds its line. The batsman trusts the bounce and lets the ball through. It goes just above off and to Pant.
38.2 : I Sharma to Harris, Harris suddenly looks a little nervy as he tries to cut this one just short of a length and outside off. He is late on it and the ball evades the outside edge once again as it goes through to the keeper.
38.3 : I Sharma to Harris, Well outside off, left alone by the southpaw.
38.4 : I Sharma to Harris, Shorter length delivery aimed at the hips, Harris flicks it away square on the leg side for a single.
38.5 : I Sharma to U Khawaja, Very poor from the Indian skipper! He has let Khawaja off the mark with an overthrow here. The pressure was building on Usman with 10 dot balls he had played and it is an unneccesary throw at the striker's end that Pant can't stop, that lets him get off the mark. India can do without such antics.
38.6 : I Sharma to Harris, Well outside off, Harris shoulders his arms to let this one go to Pant.
Drinks break. India have finally broken through, now can they put some pressure on the Aussies and get a few more in quick time?

39.2 : J Bumrah to Khawaja, This one has rared off the pitch and is fended off by the left-hander almost off his eye level. Well dealt with in the end and the ball rolls onto the pitch.
39.3 : J Bumrah to Khawaja, Good length on off, Usman defends it with the straight bat.
39.4 : J Bumrah to Khawaja, Another one which is bang on target and Khawaja remains on the back foot as he keeps it out.
39.5 : J Bumrah to Khawaja, Lots of time on this one as the leftie can shoulder his arms at it and let it go.
39.6 : J Bumrah to Khawaja, Surprise yorker from Bumrah! Equally well played by Usman as he digs it out towards Kohli at cover. Good over. 3rd consecutive maiden.
40.1 : I Sharma to Harris, Some chin music for Harris here, but he ducks just under the ball and lets that bouncer through to the wicket-keeper.
40.2 : I Sharma to Harris, This one is on a good length and easily defended away towards cover. There is a stark difference in the pace of the two seamers operating right now, with Bumrah being quite a few clicks faster.
40.3 : I Sharma to Harris, Around the wicket and sliding down at the pads with the angle, Harris pushes it in the gap towards mid-wicket and gets to the other end.
40.4 : I Sharma to Khawaja, Back to the off stump line, Khawaja doesn't look too confident defending this one but no danger in the end as the ball falls down on the pitch itself.
40.5 : I Sharma to Khawaja, Another one outside off and slightly shorter, Usman rocks back and defends it with soft hands.
40.6 : I Sharma to Khawaja, On middle and straightens a tad bit after landing, Khawaja deals with it easily as he defends it with a straight bat and back to the bowler. Good over from Ishant though. Tight stuff.

45.3 : U Yadav to Harris, Down the leg side, nudged fine for a single.
45.4 : U Yadav to Khawaja, Oopss.... a bit of a misjudgement. Landed outside off, Khawaja looks to defend but then tries to bail out. The ball goes off the bottom edge, on the bounce, to second slip.
45.5 : U Yadav to Khawaja, Outside off, let through.
45.6 : U Yadav to Khawaja, OUT! Caught behind! Khawaja was never looking confident in his stay out there and has been relieved. He stands there in disbelief. Off his 37 strenuous deliveries, he has nicked off on his 38th. A nothing shot, to a short ball outside off. Just flayed hard, did not move his feet and paid the price. A well-deserved wicket for Umesh. He has been inconsistent but this will boost his spirits.
Shaun Marsh comes in at number 4, replacing Khawaja.

Haunma Vihari is back on. 1-0-9-0 so far. Tea is just around the corner - around 17 minutes away...
48.1 : H Vihari to Harris, Outside off, punched uppishly towards point.
48.2 : H Vihari to M Harris, OUT! Hanuma Vihari has got rid of the set batsman! Boy, what a move from Virat Kohli. That is what tomorrow's papers will read. But mind you, this has got more to do with the pitch. It is not even Tea on Day 1 but the cracks have already started to open and widen. It is a touch short outside off, Harris looks to cut but suddenly, out of nowhere, the ball bounces off the crack and cramps him for room. He cannot do anything apart from fend and unluckily for him, the bal

49.1 : U Yadav to Handscomb, The pitch is starting to play tricks now. Another one rises off a crack. Umesh lands it on a length, outside off, Handscomb looks to defend but the ball suddenly shoots up and hits the outside edge. However, Peter does well to keep the hands down and hence the ball does not carry to the slip cordon.
49.2 : U Yadav to P Handscomb, A short ball, pulled through mid-wicket for three runs.

Sensational comeback from India. After a brief period post Lunch where they struggled in keeping the runs down, they have owned this session, picking up 3 wickets, which included both the set batsmen. With the heat forcing the cracks to open and widen, the batsmen are finding it more and more difficult to play.
Just goes to show you that a Test match is never over till it is actually over. At 112/0, the Aussies might have felt on top of the world, as the number 1 Test team was struggling to pick up a wicket. But suddenly, in the space of 79 balls, three have gone by and they now have two new batsmen out in the middle.
It is a hot day and understandably, the Indians are taking a lot of time to bowl their overs. 37 left in the day. Surely we would be going into extra time, unless Vihari bowls more. Join us back at 3.20 pm local (0720 GMT).
... DAY 1, SESSION 3 ...
We are back for the final session of play on Day 1. The players stroll out onto the field along with the umpires. Will we see Handscomb and Marsh build a partnership or will we see the Indians picking up quick wickets? Handscomb to face the first ball of the session from Umesh Yadav.
53.1 : U Yadav to Handscomb, Starts off with a ball short and well outside off, Handscomb just pushes it in the gap to the left of cover and picks up a couple.
53.2 : U Yadav to Handscomb, Closer to the off pole this time, Peter drops it on the off side and runs through for a quick single.
53.3 : U Yadav to Marsh, Well well, what happened there? Yadav goes for the bouncer and Marsh takes his eyes off the ball and tries to sway away. He is too late on it and the ball pings off his shoulder and drops just in front of Pant. No risk of getting out but there was a risk of a nasty injury there. Needs to keep his eyes on the ball.

53.5 : U Yadav to Marsh, Another leave outside the off stump by the southpaw.
53.6 : U Yadav to Marsh, Three leaves in a row to end the over as this one too wide on the off side.
Ishant to bowl from the other end.
54.1 : I Sharma to P Handscomb, OUT! Kohli has pulled off a one-handed stunner here! An incredible catch while jumping towards his right and Handscomb has to walk back. Ishant gets his first and India have their fourth. Just what they would've wanted after the Tea break. The ball is one that bounces way more than Handscomb would have expected as he puts his bat loose outside off in an attempt to run this one down to third man. He just gets an outside edge that flies to the right of Kohli at third
0.0 : Travis Head is the next batsman in at no. 6.
54.2 : I Sharma to Head, FOUR! Almost had two-in-two. From around the wicket, and a snorter to welcome Head. He is uncomfortable as he tries to fend it off and looks like it has gone off his glove and above Kohli's head for four runs. Replays show us that the ball actually came off his left shoulder. Good bowling from Ishant here, looks like the wicket has given him confidence.
54.3 : I Sharma to Head, Outside off and Head just pushes it away towards point fort a single.

55.6 : U Yadav to Marsh, Around off, Marsh lets it be.
56.1 : I Sharma to Head, FOUR! This outfield is really quick! The ball was at the hips and Head just works it away off his pads to the right of deep fine leg. The fielder has no chance as the ball runs away to deep backward square leg fence.

56.5 : I Sharma to Head, Beaten again! Ishant delivers this one short and outside off, the left-handed Head goes for a cut off his back foot but misses the ball completely. Was too close to cut this one and especially risky on this pitch as the ball bounces a bit more than normal. Some stares from the bowler on his followthrough.

57.5 : U Yadav to Marsh, Back of a length around off, Marsh does not need to play at those.

58.1 : I Sharma to Head, Outside off and another play and miss from Head. Riding his luck here one would say. Short of a length and Head wants to drive this off his back foot through covers but misses the ball completely. Loose, too loose a stroke to attempt now.

59.3 : J Bumrah to Marsh, Angling into the body on this occasion, Marsh is cramped for room but adjust well as he works it away to square leg and gets a single.
59.4 : J Bumrah to Head, Nasty! Nasty bouncer from Bumrah. Quick and hurried onto Head who was attempting a pull but the ball is too quick on him. He gets hit on the glove and the ball then goes on to hit his helmet. Lucky for the batsman, the ball could've gone anywhere.
59.5 : J Bumrah to Head, Another fast ball outside off, Travis has to jump to keep this out.
59.6 : J Bumrah to Head, Beaten outside off again! Too quick for the left-hander as the ball is past him before he gets his bat to play the cut shot. Bumrah is spitting fireballs here.

60.6 : H Vihari to S Marsh, FOUR! Loose delivery from Vihari. It was short and wide outside off, Marsh cuts and cuts hard through the backward point region and the ball races away to the fence. Vihari needs to slower his pace. He has been wayyy to short and quicker in this over.

61.2 : J Bumrah to Head, Bouncer to follow up, Head ducks under the ball and lets it go through.

Wide outside off, fuller in length, Head leans into the shot, but does not quite move his feet again. The ball flies off the edge, through point but the man is deep. Full and around off, coming back in sharply, Cummins looked to defend but got squared up. He is hit on the pads and India appeal but wood saves Patrick. STUMPS ON DAY 1, AUSTRALIA END ON 277/6!
Exciting day of cricket. Both teams would take this. India will love because Australia were 112/0 at one stage and cruising, as if they had suddenly been reminded that the Hayden-Langer era had re-begun. The hosts would be happy too, as divots have already started to appear and the pitch is starting to be up and down on Day 1 already. So this looks like a good score.
Runs on the board are always important and the hosts have them. They stuck to the age-old technique of see ball, watch ball and the openers benefitted. There was a bit of a stutter in the middle, as Australia lost 4/36 in the span of 114 balls but after that, Marsh and Head ensured that India spent more time in the field searching for wickets.
If anything, what will disappoint the Kangaroos is the way both Marsh and Head threw it away. The 84-run stand was causing frustration for the Indians but getting both of them in the span of 32 balls would have boosted the visitors' hopes. The Aussies could have easily been 4 or 5 down, but now, they have allowed the Indians to keep them pinned down under 300.
Did India miss a spinner? Were their pacers tired? Looking at the cracks opening up, surely Ashwin, Jadeja or Kuldeep would have been handy. Yes, Ashwin is injured but the other two would have been mighty effective, especially in the second innings. Very unlikely from this fitness-freaking Indian side but only Bumrah looked the fittest and fastest. Ishant picked up 2 wickets but he struggled for a major part of the day. Umesh Yadav was expensive and inaccurate while Shami was unlucky not to pick
Right then! Do Australia have enough? if you believe Twitterati, they do. If you look logically, they do. But the same feeling came when India made a 'meager' 250 in Adelaide. So as Michael Clarke always says - 'Never judge a pitch till both sides have batted on it.' So wait for the second innings to unfold and then make a judgement. But for that, you need to follow the game, don't you? Join us back at 10.20 am local (0220 GMT) for all the action on Day 2. ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
... Day 2, Session 1 ...
Hello and welcome to Day 2 of the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar trophy. After a brilliant day of Test cricket on the first day at this state-of-the-art stadium, we have had a really heavy gale accompanied with slight showers last night. Yesterday was a hot day, and the gale has just changed the whole complexion, it is cool and cloudy and expected to remain the same throughout the day. Coming to the cricket, Australia are 277-6 and India will be looking to wipe off the tail as soon as possib
The Aussie fast bowlers will be licking their lips on the prospect of bowling on this quick pitch, also with the weather conditions turning this way that should aid them. They won't tire as much as they would have, bowling under the sun. The spinner, Nathan Lyon should also be excited seeing the amount of bounce Hanuma Vihari extracted yesterday. Should be an exhilarating day's play. Stay tuned with us for action which begins in some time!
Pitch Report - Michael Vaughan with the pitch report. Starting with the overhead conditions, he says that there is a little bit of cloud cover which will make it cooler. Adds that there is plenty of grass cover and it made it uneven and difficult for the batsmen, should continue to be the same. With already 277 on the board, he feels that the Aussies are on top as it won't become any easier for batting.

Pant takes a good catch diving to his left. India doing well here after the Drinks break.
Josh Hazlewood is the last batsman in.
108.3 : I Sharma to Hazlewood, OUT! Ishant gets four and AUSTRALIA ARE BOWLED OUT FOR 326. Excellent delivery again, it's angled in from 'round the wicket in the direction of the stumps. Hazlewood has to play at it but to his misfortune, it's an outswinger which kisses the outside edge of his blade. Pant dives across to his left to take a fine catch. Sharma will be on a hat-trick next time.
The innings has come to a very abrupt end after one time it was looking as if 350 was a sure thing. A brilliant half-century from Marcus Harris was the best knock out of the three 50s in the innings. Finch also struggled his way to a half-century and Travis Head was the third one who got to the 50-run mark. Marsh played well but was out 5 runs short of his half-century. On the bowling front, Ishant was the pick of the bowlers as he picked up 4 wickets. Bumrah, Yadav and Vihari picked up two apie
Looking ahead, the pitch is doing all sorts of things if you bowl in the right areas. It is not easy for batting but at the same time, not impossible to bat too. The onus will be on the openers, who will have to deal with the new ball. The hosts' new ball bowlers will look to pick up early wickets, knowing especially how jittery the vistors' middle order is. Let us see what happens. The Indian innings in just a bit.
