AFG 246/7 (50)
Match over
4.6 : 4.6: A Alam to Hossain Shanto, OUT! Good tight bowling from the other end has resulted in Shanto going for a non-existent shot against Alam and that has brought about his downfall. Alam keeps it fractionally short of good length in line of the stumps and angling across Hossaain. Shanto looks to swing it wildly over the mid-wicket region, his losses his balance and ends up top edging it straight up in the air towards point where Rahmat Shah pouches it safely. First blood drawn by Afghanistan.
5.3 : 5.3: Ur Rahman to M Mithun, OUT! That's dead plumb. No chance for Mithun to survive that from any angle. Two wickets in quick succession for Afghanistan. They're on a roll here. Coming in sharply from around off, like a medium pacer's delivery. Mithun looks to defend but gets caught on the front pad. Big appeal and the finger quickly goes up. The batsman didn't even think of taking the DRS, it was that obvious.
8.6 : 8.6: G Naib to L Das, FOUR! Super shot! Das sees the sull length and a bit of width on this, he leans across and creams his drive through covers, his placement and timing is supreme which gets a boundary and gets the first one of the innings.
10.2 : 10.2: G Naib to M Rahim, FOUR! That's 5000 ODI runs for Rahim, the second Bangladeshi to get to that mark after Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan. Rahim takes on the short ball as he swivels and pulls it fine of the fine leg fielder and the ball races across the boundary to bring Rahim's first boundary. He's up and running.
12.2: G Naib to L Das, FOUR! Wonderful aggression from Liton Das. Stays positive and gives the charge to this length ball. Lifts it cleanly over mid off and the ball seemingly hits the rope. The umpire isn't sure, it looks like a maximum to the naked eye, but it's taken upstairs. Replays show that it bounced just before crashing into it. So a boundary is signalled.
16.4 : 16.4: A Alam to M Rahim, FOUR! Rahim gives the charge, sees the ball banged in short but still goes for the pull. The front foot forehand swat goes through the mid-wicket region racing through and across the ropes in a flash. Rahim has had enough of it, it seems.
16.5 : 16.5: A Alam to M Rahim, SIX! A maximum this time. Alam again bangs it in short and gets the ball rising onto Rahim, Rahim stays back and goes for the pull shit and gets a top edge. The ball flies down towards fine leg and the pace on it has taken the ball sailing over the ropes to bring up the first biggie of the innings. The 50 stand also comes up.
18.3 : 18.3: R Khan to L Das, FOUR! Class! That is so elegant and classic from Das. Rashid tosses this one up and keeps it on off. Das, every so gently, plays a lofted extra cover drive, his timing is exquisite and placement is even better as the ball races through for a boundary. That's how you play Rashid Khan.
18.4 : 18.4: R Khan to L Das, OUT! Classic cricket one ball and some irresponsible cricket on the next. This is full and on the off stump, ripping away late, it has an inward drift. He goes down looking to sweep, a risky shot against this bowler because of his pace. Gets a top edge on it and Insanullah in the slip region settles under it and takes it with a couple of steps to his right. That is a very sad ending to a promising innings.
18.6 : 18.6: R Khan to Al Hasan, OUT run out (Samiullah Shenwari). Bangladesh have lost their fourth wicket.
20.3 : 20.3: R Khan to I Kayes, FOUR! Just uses the pace and a misfield from the man at short fine leg helps his cause. Turning in on the pads, Kayes works it fine down the leg side. The fielder moves to his left, tumbles but can't stop the ball. A boundary results.
20.5 : 20.5: R Khan to I Kayes, OUT! Rahim is out of here! This is a big, big wicket for the Afghans. Kayes works this in front of square leg and calls for the run. Mushfiqur is halfway down the track and at this point, Imrul sends his back. Nabi gets to the ball and throws it to Rashid. The bowler collects, runs back and takes the bails off. Rahim is well out of the crease, but the issue remains whether he took the bails off with his leg first. Replays roll in as the umpire refers it upstairs and they
25.2 : 25.2: G Naib to Mahmudullah, FOUR! A boundary after almost 5 overs for Bangladesh. Just shows the dominance of the Afghans. They need more of these. Length ball with width offered outside off, Mahmudullah fiercely cuts this behind point and finds the fence.
27.6 : 27.6: S Shenwari to Mahmudullah, FOUR! A half-tracker from Shenwari and it's put away. Mahmudullah shifts his weight onto the back foot and pulls it aerially wide of the deep mid-wicket fielder for a boundary.
31.4 : 31.4: A Alam to Mahmudullah, FOUR! That's crunched away! Brings up the 50-run stand too. Short and wide, Mahmudullah cracks it past the diving point fielder and even beats the sweeper in the deep to send it across the boundary line. Super shot.
39.2 : 39.2: G Naib to I Kayes, FOUR! Naib changes his pace and bowls this one slower but makes an error in giving width. Kayes accepts it with glee and smashes an uppish cover drive for a cracking boundary. Bangladesh dearly need more of these.
42.4 : 42.4: R Khan to Mahmudullah, SIX! KABOOM! That's outta here. Takes courage to do this to Rashid. Mahmudulaah, after the 3 dot balls, goes down for the slop sweep and gets some sweet connection. The sound made when ball met the bat was so good to hear. The ball sails over the ropes for a 94 meter maximum.
44.2 : 44.2: R Khan to Mahmudullah, SIX! He goes after Rashid this time and does so with some style. Gives a bit of room and goes down to play the slog sweep, the ball is fired in quicker and on a fuller length on middle. Mahmudullah finds the middle of his bat again and the ball this times easily clears the fence and another maximum results.
45.5 : 45.5: G Naib to I Kayes, FOUR! That's hit really well! Wide full toss outside off, Kayes gets low, reaches out to it and smacks it square through the off side. Past the vacant cover-point region and the ball beats the diving fielder in the deep as well. Well hit.
46.2 : 46.2: A Alam to Mahmudullah, OUT! Goes completely oppositie with his line, length and speed. He lands this very short and way wide of off. He seems to have rolled his finger over it and the leg cutter reaches Mahmudullah on its way down. The batsman tries to hit it hard over the deep point fence. Gets good connection but not enough distance, as he could not hit it with the desired power because of the slower pace. The fielder at sweeper covers moves a couple of steps to his right to take it easi
46.6 : 46.6: A Alam to I Kayes, FOUR! That is not a good end to the over as Alam bangs this one short, it is a slower ball again but this time Kayes picks it up early and smashes the pull shot through deep square leg for ta boundary.
47.2 : 47.2: R Khan to I Kayes, FOUR! Gutsy! Reserve sweep and gets it right this time. Kayes goes down, looks to go for the reserve sweep and times it brilliantly. He has made good use of the bowler's pace. The ball races across the third man region for a boundary.
48.1 : 48.1: A Alam to M Mortaza, FOUR! Luck favors the brave, and this time it favors Bangladesh. Mortaza looks to go for the slog over mid-wicket by gets a thick inside edge and the french cut helps the ball races across the fine leg boundary.
48.5 : 48.5: A Alam to M Mortaza, OUT! A bit of a comical dismissal. Trying to be too smart there Mortaza and perishes in the effort. He goes down looking to scoop it over the keeper's head, moves much before the ball has left the bowler's arm, Alam does well to float in a slower ball, the right-hander has to wait a bit longer and then tries to scoop it, gets a top edge and the ball goes up towards Shahzad who does not have to move a step to take it safely.
49.6 : 49.6: G Naib to I Kayes, FOUR! What a way to finish the innings. Superb shot from Imrul Kayes. He leans into the full ball outside off and drives it ever so well through the covers for a boundary. BANGLADESH FINISH ON 249/7!
0.2 : 0.2: M Mortaza to M Shahzad, FOUR! Away in style! A touch short and too straight in line, Shahzad pulls it powerfully through square leg and finds the fence.
0.3 : 0.3: M Mortaza to M Shahzad, FOUR! Two in two for Shahzad! It's tailing in on the pads so he just tickles it fine down the leg side. Mortaza needs to get his radar right here.
1.5 : 1.5: N Islam to Ihsanullah, FOUR! Better. That's a good shot. Tossed up on middle, Ihsanullah skips down the track and lofts it cleanly over mid on for a boundary.
2.4 : 2.4: M Mortaza to Ihsanullah, FOUR! Poor line and pays the price. Mortaza darts it on the pads, easy enough for Janat to flick it behind square leg and find the fence as a result.
4.1 : 4.1: M Rahman to Ihsanullah, OUT! The Fizz strikes on the very first ball! Talk about impact. The left-armer slants it across on a good length, it's around off and Janat plays the expansive drive. Can't keep it down though and hands a straightforward catch to Shanto at point. He takes it well with a reverse cup. First breakthrough for Bangladesh, they'll want to capitalize on this now.
5.5 : 5.5: N Islam to M Shahzad, FOUR! Short and wide outside off, there's room on offer and Shahzad takes full advantage of it. Cracks it well through cover-point and sends it across the boundary line.
7.2 : 7.2: N Islam to M Shahzad, OUT! Shah is run out! Much like in the first innings, there's a serious miscommunication from Afghanistan now. But take a bow, Shakib. How good are you? What a throw. Shahzad cuts it towards point and takes off initially. Shah responds and when he's halfway down, Shahzad tells him to go back as Shakib is quick to the ball. He collects and scores a direct hit at the bowler's end. Rahmat tries to get in but he looks short. It's taken upstairs and replays confirm he is. A
8.1 : 8.1: M Rahman to M Shahzad, FOUR! Shot. Width offered to free his arms. A length ball outside off, Shahzad flays it over point and beats third man trying to cut it off as well.
13.2 : 13.2: M Mortaza to H Shahidi, FOUR! Mortaza just drops it a bit short and Shahidi pounces on it like a cheetah. He walks down the track, it's a bit wider outside off, so he cuts it over backward point and finds the fence for a boundary.
15.1 : 15.1: M Mortaza to M Shahzad, FOUR! Too wide of off, Shahzad doesn't have any second thoughts about putting this away. Flays this through point for a boundary.
19.1: M Mortaza to M Shahzad, FOUR! This is the Shahzad we know and have come to watch. He has had enough of touch and run. He takes a step forward and whacks this good length ball on off straight down the ground for a rocket boundary. The umpire had duck under it quickly and he does that well.
19.3 : 19.3: M Mortaza to M Shahzad, FOUR! SMACK! That is typical Shahzad. He gives himself a bit of room, and flat bats this slower ball on a good length around off. The ball skims through the covers for a cracking boundary. Two in two and Shahzad is finally in the mood.
20.4 : 20.4: M Hasan to M Shahzad, FOUR! Fifty for Mohammad Shahzad. His 13th in this format. Also, the 50-run stand is up too. Brings it up in some style. Opens his body up and drills it through the gap in the covers for a boundary.
24.4: Mahmudullah to M Shahzad, OUT! Timberrr! Total misjudgement by the attacking right-hander as he goes back to a not-so short ball and moreover it is angled into him in line of the stumps. The ball dips and skids through on landing, goes below his bat and crashes into the leg stump. Big blow this for Afghanistan, their hard hitter is gone.
30.6 : 30.6: Mahmudullah to H Shahidi, FOUR! Beautiful! Shahidi comes up with one of the shots of the match. Mahmudullah flosts this up and keeps it a bit wide of off, Shahidi goes down on one knee and cracks this cover drive right between the fielder at covers, inside the ring and the sweep cover, who tries to run across and cut it off but just doesn't reach to it as the ball races across the boundary.
31.2 : 31.2: Al Hasan to H Shahidi, FOUR! A half-tracker from Shakib, Shahidi rocks back and pulls it hard through the vacant square leg area for a boundary.
35.4 : 35.4: M Rahman to A Afghan, FOUR! The 50-run stand comes up with that! Beautiful shot from Asghar Afghan. He picks up the short length early and rocks back in a jiffy. Pulls it with complete control along the turf through mid-wicket for a boundary.
36.3 : 36.3: M Hasan to H Shahidi, FOUR! Shahidi pounces on the poor length. Comes forward first but then camps back and pulls it through mid-wicket for a boundary.
39.3: M Mortaza to A Afghan, FOUR! Back to over the wicket and Mortaza concedes a boundary. Sprays it on the pads, Afghan swings it and gets it fine enough. Beats short fine leg and finds the boundary with ease.
39.4 : 39.4: M Mortaza to A Afghan, OUT! The Bangladesh skipper strikes! He was struggling in his first spell, but has come back now and got the big wicket of the Afghanistan captain. A cross seam delivery on off, on a length, Afghan looks to go big over the leg side but gets a top edge which balloons towards short third man. Mahmudullah there runs back, settles under the ball and takes a good tumbling catch.
40.4: N Islam to H Shahidi, FOUR! Too easy for Shahidi! This is what Afghanistan need to do, hit a boundary in every over and keep rotating the strike. A half-tracker on middle, Shahidi pulls it away past the left side of the backward square leg fielder to find the fence.
42.2 : 42.2: Al Hasan to M Nabi, SIX! Straight as an arrow and clean as a whistle! Slower through the air in line of the stumps, Nabi has his dancing shoes on and tonks it down the ground for a flat maximum. We all know about his big-hitting ability.
43.3 : 43.3: M Mortaza to H Shahidi, OUT! Bowled 'em! Just what the doctor ordered for Bangladesh. Mortaza was a bit off color in his first spell but he has come roaring back to pick up his second wicket. Mortaza delivers an off cutter around off. Shahidi shuffles across, crouches and tries to scoop it over short fine leg but has no pace to work with. Gets beaten as the ball kisses his back pad and deflects onto the stumps. This is Mortaza's 250th ODI wicket. Afghanistan need 58 from 39 balls.
45.5 : 45.5: M Rahman to M Nabi, FOUR! That'll be a boundary! It was wide and short and Nabi just had to go for it. He flayed it over point and sent it across the boundary line. Super shot.
46.2 : 46.2: M Mortaza to S Shenwari, SIX! Mighty blow from Samiullah Shenwari! That's a big hit. Back of a length around off, Shenwari swings his bat with all his might. Connects beautifully well and clears the wide long on boundary with absolute ease. Afghanistan need more, a lot more of these.
47.2: M Rahman to S Shenwari, FOUR! Oh that's poor positioning. Should have been right at the rope. He was too far in and hence missed the catch. Behind and that's an easy catch. Shenwari pulls this short ball on off and sends it flying towards deep mid-wicket. Shanto is the man there and he leaps ahead, only to miss it. It goes over him and falls just inside the rope before going across.
47.6 : 47.6: M Rahman to M Nabi, FOUR! Fine placement from Nabi. Poor line from the Fizz, spills a length delivery on the pads, Nabi works it nicely past short fine leg for a boundary. 19 off 12 now.
48.2 : 48.2: Al Hasan to M Nabi, SIX! Take a bow, Mohammad Nabi. Doing it for his team and taking it home. Beautiful. Shakib floats it up and Nabi gives the charge. Connects sweetly and sends it sailing deep into the long off stands for a biggie.
48.3 : 48.3: Al Hasan to M Nabi, OUT! Gone next ball! What's going to happen here? Nobody can tell. Can go either way. Nabi takes it on the full and looks to clear wide long off. Doesn't get enough elevation on it and it flies towards Shanto there. He moves to his left and takes a good diving catch. Nabi departs, but he's brought his team in a good position.
49.2 : 49.2: M Rahman to R Khan, OUT! Rashid doesn't last very long! Mustafizur cramps Khan for room seeing him back away. Bangs it short and the batsman looks to swing across the line. Gets it off the top half and it pops back to the bowler who gobbles it up. Still 6 in 4. Still some batting left for Afghanistan. The game, still very much in the balance.
