Yasin Malik gets life imprisonment, Rs 10 lakh penalty in terror funding case
NIA had demanded the maximum punishment, the death penalty for Yasin Malik, while the defence pleaded for life imprisonment.
The NIA court in Delhi Wednesday awarded life imprisonment to Kashmiri separatist leader Yasin Malik in a terror funding case.
The case linked with Malik is related to terrorist and secessionist activities that disturbed the Kashmir valley in 2017.
The NIA court also imposed a fine of Rs 10 lakh on Malik. He was sentenced to life imprisonment twice (one for waging war against the nation and one in UAPA sec 17 raising fund for terror act).

Yasin Malik has been charged with hatching a criminal conspiracy, waging war against the country, other unlawful activities, and disturbing peace in Kashmir.
The court had on May 19 convicted Malik and had directed the NIA authorities to assess his financial situation to determine the amount of fine likely to be imposed.

In the arguments before the sentencing, Malik told the court that he will accept hanging if the intelligence agencies prove any terror-related activities involving him.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) meanwhile told the court that Malik is responsible for the Kashmiri Pandits` exodus from the Valley as it argued for the death sentence for him.
Malik had on May 10 told the court that he was not contesting the charges levelled against him that included sections 16 (terrorist act), 17 (raising funds for the terrorist act), 18 (conspiracy to commit terrorist act), and 20 (being member of terrorist gang or organisation) of the UAPA and sections 120-B (criminal conspiracy) and 124-A (sedition) of the IPC.
