If you've been wondering whether the name 'United' Kingdom makes sense given this week’s events, you have company. Comedian and Last Week Tonight host John Oliver had a fitting response to the Brexit vote he had warned against the previous week.
After the pivotal June 23 referendum, Oliver spared no wit in roasting Brexit’s most vocal leaders for the 'leave' campaign - calling Boris Johnson a ‘shaved orangutan with Owen Wilson’s hair’ and saying that Nigel Farage, leader of the UK Independence Party was a ‘three-time cover model for the Punchable Face magazine.’
He also points out the irony of them calling the day Britain leaves the European Union (EU) as ‘Independence Day', since Britain is what many other countries celebrate their independence from!
He doesn't spare David Cameron either, who resigned as UK Prime Minister, considering holding the referendum was his idea in the first place!
A little serious in the end, he highlights the difficulties the next Prime Minister would have in negotiating the complicated process of leaving the European Union, once Article 50 of the charter is invoked. He also talks about the several lives that hang in balance because "two idiots named Nigel and Boris quoted President Bill Pullman’ (from the movie Independence Day).
