The Australian drought is the worst so far in the living memory that is sweeping major parts of eastern Australia. The drought has left many farmers to struggle and raised a big question about their future. The blazing sun, cracked land, circular dry tracks and starving cattle has stretched across the land to great an extent. According to reports by the Australian Bureau of Meteorology, Australia has experienced the second-warmest summer on record. Australia has been through one of the warmest and driest autumn and summer on record. The dry spell has left more than 95% of New South Wales in drought and if reports are to be believed there is no end in sight to this dry period.
The drought has been affecting eastern Australia for months now. From ground level, Australia’s drought looks like a featureless, brown dustbowl, but from the air it transforms into an artistry of colour and texture as the land cracks under a blazing sun.
Distressed farmers have made little income in recent years and are facing heavy financial crisis this year. A quarter of Australia’s agricultural production by value is grown in NSW and the state government has offered more than A$1 billion in emergency funding to farmers. It announced the latest tranche - A$500 million - on July 30.
