Drivers on a road in Washington, U.S.A, were in for a horrible shock when a plane crashed in the middle of the road, it was so close that some drivers even claimed to have felt the heat from the exploding engine.

Dashcam footage showed the plane crash land on a road in Mukilteo, Washington on Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Snohomish County Public Utilities District the transmission line damage caused a brief power outage in the area, the crash also resulted in a traffic jam and several cars were damaged.

The Federal Aviation Administration said that the single-engine Piper PA32 had taken off from a nearby Paine Field Airport.

Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board were told by the pilot that he realised the airplane started to lose power as soon as he took off, when he decided to land it a problem occurred in the engine causing the crash.

The plane crashed through power lines and a traffic light pole above packed lanes of traffic before it suddenly exploded.

However the pilot was smart and chose to land on the section of the road that was clear.

There were no fatalities, and even the pilot walked away without any serious injuries.
