Boy born with two sex organs

JAIPUR: In a rare medical occurrence, a boy was born with two genital organs at a private hospital, but doctors say he is otherwise hale and hearty.

The infant is the ninth child of a 35-year-old woman from the walled city area and was born at Jaipur Hospital 'with two sex organs one above the other on Thursday', said gynaecologist Abha Srivastava who performed the delivery.

She said 100 children have been born in recent medical history with such condition in the world of which three are from India.

Doctors conducted ultra-sound tests of the kidneys and other organs to determine whether any mutation had taken place at the foetal stage but found the boy was healthy and able to perform urinary functions normally, Srivastava said.

"It is not a case of diphthalic teritorology (mutation) but can be considered a congenital anomaly," she said.

She said doctors at the hospital conducted a web search and found the case is the third in the country. Another case has been reported from Lady Hardinge Hospital in New Delhi, she added.
