Welcome to the live match updates of the final of the 2016 U-19 World Cup. It is India v/s West Indies in this grand final.

West Indies have won the toss and put India in to bat. Brave decision in a World Cup final.

Both teams are unchanged.

Here is why India are firm favourites to win today:

No team has won the U-19 World Cup more than three times. India, led by Jharkhand's left-handed opening batsman Ishan Kishan, are favourites to win a fourth time and leave Australia (three times), Pakistan (twice), England and South Africa (once each) far behind.

The track record of the Indian under-19 cricket team has been remarkable. Since January 2014, they have won 20 of their last 21 matches. This includes 15 straight wins since losing to England in the quarterfinals of the 2014 edition in the United Arab Emirates.

Down the track, Paul plays a pull at a short ball from Ahmed, gets a top edge that flies behind the keeper, and West Indies have won.

West Indies have won the Under-19 World Cup final by 5 wickets. 146/5 in 49.3 overs.

West Indies are the ICC Under-19 World Champions for the first time ever.

03:34 PM

14 more needed from 18 balls for the Windies. Carty is on 47.

If they make 17, it will be time for a Super Over.

03:14 PM

Windies are now 113/5. Carty and Paul have added 36 runs for the sixth wicket so far.

33 more needed to win off 48 balls. This will be Windies' first U-19 World Cup win if they get there.

02:53 PM

West Indies have crawled to 98/5 after 36 overs. A partnership of 21, very crucial runs in this game, is on. Drinks break time.

48 more needed off 14 overs.

02:28 PM

OUT. 5 down. Can India U-19 do their own 1983 version of the World Cup final? Mayank Dagar has 3 wickets now.

Goolie offered a simple return catch to another flighted full ball from Dagar. WI 77/5.

02:18 PM

OUT! Yes, Dagar has two now and both have holed out in the deep!

Dagar flights the ball, Shamar Springer has a go at it. Swings hard down the ground, top edge finds the man running in from long on. West Indies 71/4.

02:04 PM

OUT! Captain Hetmyer has played a poor shot! After a good partnership, Hetmyer decides to launch Dagar over long on for some reason. Hits down long on's throat instead.

West Indies are now 67/3 after 23 overs.

01:36 PM

West Indies have slowly progressed to 44/2 after 16 overs.

The wicket is playing some tricks, with consistent bounce and swing for the bowlers. But the only way India can win is by claiming 10 wickets. 200 would have been an interesting score on this wicket.

01:05 PM

OUT. Keeper Imlach is the next to fall. Rising short ball into the ribs, on off from Khaleel Ahmed. Imlach tries to fend it off and short mid off takes a great diving catch.

West Indies 28/2.

12:45 PM

OUT. India have got the early wicket they wanted. The Pope has been dimissed for 3.

Banged in short and moves away with the angle outside off, Pope tries a hoick over the leg side and gets a thick edge that flies to third man. Avesh Khan gets his first.

West Indies 5/1.

12:07 PM

OUT. End of Batham, who had scored a good 21. With that, India's innings folds for 145.

Full outside off, Batham drives and gets a nice outside edge to the keeper. Keemo Paul was the bowler, he finishes with 2 wickets.

West Indies have bowled India out for 145 in 45.1 overs, a paltry total. Winning the toss and bowling has paid dividends for the Windies.

11:39 AM

OUT. Gone, 9 down, 123/9. Avesh Khan goes for 1 and West Indies are ecstatic.

Springer, who has figures of 1/8 off 6 overs, comes back.

11:32 AM

OUT! Sarfaraz has thrown it away, and with that India's chances might have disappeared as well. Good length from John on middle and off, moves in, Sarfaraz goes for an awkward flick-heave and the ball crashes into his pads.

India 120/8, the end seems near now. Sarfaraz made 51 off 89 balls.

11:24 AM

OUT. Wickets continue to fall at the other end, even as Sarfaraz Khan gets another fifty.

Mayank Dagar it is this time, cuts hard from outside off but straight to point. India U-19 116/7.

10:52 AM

OUT. End of Lomror. First ball after the drinks break, a humble outside edge off Lomror's bat and the keeper snaps it up.

India 87/6. Mayank Dagar comes in.

10:23 AM

India have reached 70/5 in 23 overs, with new batsman Michael Lomror on 14 and Sarfaraz on 19.

Alzarri Joseph, the chief destroyer has now finished 8 overs.

09:59 AM

OUT. Shamar Springer has got Arman Jaffer out to leave India 5 down. He then celebrates with a customary chest roll.

Full on middle, Armaan gets forward to drive. He plays in the air, chipping it to the short-cover fielder at ankle height. Third umpire confirms it was taken cleanly. India 50/5.

09:43 AM

OUT. Washington Sundar is gone and now India are really looking down the barrel. Pitched up, Sundar tries to go over mid off, without success. He holes out.

Sundar made a painful 7 off 41 balls and was out looking to break free. India 41/4.

09:32 AM

Sundar has scored a slow 6 off 35 balls so far. Sarfaraz is on 12 off 22.

India have crawled along to 40/3 after 13 overs. Joseph has taken all 3 wickets to fall so far.

09:05 AM

OUT! The captain has gone cheaply again. Just fuller than good length, nips back in from middle and off, and Ishan Kishan plays all around it. LBW given.

India lose their 3rd wicket with just 27 runs on the board. 27/3 after 6 overs. Kishan gone for 4.

08:46 AM

OUT! 8/2. Anmolpreet it is now. Short and rising ball from Joesph, close to the body, and Anmolpreet fends it simply to the keeper. Didn't really need to play at it.

India are in big trouble early on.

Washington Sundar has come in ahead of Sarfaraz Khan.

08:39 AM

OUT. Oh. What a bad dismissal. Rishabh Pant left the ball alone, then wandered out of his crease. The keeper saw it, threw the ball back and Pant was caught napping on replays.

Terrible way to begin for India. 3/1.
