‘Chennai Super Kings have a good chance to win’

On the eve of their match, Mumbai Indians’s coach Robin Singh and Chennai Super Kings trump card Muttiah Muralitharan answered a wide range of questions. D Ram Raj reports from the Chepauk in Chennai.

How do you fancy your chances against Mumbai?
In this competition any side can beat any side. We have got the highest score in the competition, so we have a good chance (to win).

With the World T20 round the corner, should some senior players be rested?
Nobody will be rested as every franchisee wants to play its best players. All the players want to get match practice and go to the West Indies for the World T20.

Are you worried about the pink cap?
Not really, because I am not fond of caps. Winning is the most important thing.

T20 is not considered a spinners game, but spinners are doing well, your take?
Who says that this is not the format for spinners, this is for everyone. Spinners can take wickets and their roles cannot be underestimated. You have to play according to the situation. Basically if you bowl well, you have the chance to get wickets. It doesn’t matter whether you are a fast bowler or a spinner.

Your reactions to Hayden’s Mongoose bat?
I don’t know about that, you should ask that question to Hayden, he practises with the Mongoose bat.

Do you feel players can give their best for both IPL and their country?
Every player wants to play every match as hard as he can, be it IPL, club or country. It is going to be the same because the motto is same. The motivation has to be there otherwise you shouldn’t be playing.
