LA Lakers star Dwight Howard tells DNA that new coach Mike D’ Antoni is the right man to lead the side.
How’s life at LA Lakers?
Life’s good! We work as a team. I have so many seniors to look up to; so many role models. I am happy to be here.
Did you move to Lakers because you wanted to win an NBA championship?
I have always wanted to win an NBA championship. I was traded to the Lakers in August this year. I will do whatever I can to win a championship.
With seven wins and eight losses (as on Thursday), it’s been a rather slow start to the season. Moreover, there has been a change in leadership: Mike Brown was fired recently and Mike D’Antoni has just taken charge. Is there a concern?
There is no concern. The season has just begun. Everybody in the team is feeling motivated.
You are a very religious person. Have you managed to convince your high-flying teammates to follow the path of the Lord?
Well, it’s not about convincing my teammates. It’s about moving in the right direction. I don’t believe in imposing myself on anybody.
Is there a culture of praying in this team?
The whole team prays together before every game.
Tell us something about the new coach. Does the team have a new target?
He’s great. I think we have got the right man to lead us. Our target has always been to win the championship.
You had imitated Kobe Bryant on air the day you joined the Lakers. It was a big hit on YouTube. Have you figured out how to impersonate the others?
No; for now, it’s just Kobe (laughs).
