IPL 8 Rajasthan Royals v/s Royal Challengers Bangalore: RCB canter to easy 9-wicket win

Bangalore have won this match with ease. They have cantered to a 9-wicket win with 23 balls left. They dominated the match almost from start to finish. This win will boost their NRR tremendously, and spoil Rajasthan's.

Over 17

FOUR. Kohli has won the match for RCB with a pull for four. Ridiculously easy win.

Over 16

AB comes down the track again, yorks himself again and gets one to mid on. Just one more run required. RCB 130/1 after 16.

Fired in fast and wide outside off, Kohli gets a single to deep point.

Slower short ball and Kohli pulls it hard, down, to deep midwicket for two.

Two singles off two balls means RCB just need 5 more off 28 balls. Can they finish it quickly?

Over 15

Down the track, AB yorks himself but they get a single. RCB 124/1 after 15 overs.

Short and slammed into the deep for one.

SIX! Down the track and Kohli just thrashes it down the ground for six.

Over 14

Driven for one, 16 off the over, RCB 114/1 after 14 overs.

FOUR. Quick and full on middle stump, de Villiers gives room as he advances. Corked down the ground for four.

Short, gets high on de Villiers, whose pull is slightly top edged. But it lands in no man's land and long on has to run around to stop the boundary.

Very quick double again, the throw is slightly slow and wide, else de Villiers was in strife. Again.

SIX! Kohli shimmies down the track and lofts the hapless bowler straight and flat down the ground. Ball hits the hoarding.

Over 13

Single into the deep off the last ball, RCB 98/1 after 13.

Oh. Slower ball, de Villiers reads it slightly late. He stops his shot and the ball loops down the ground for one. Nowhere close for a catch though.

Over 11

5 of the over, RCB 88/1 after 11.

Yorker from Chris Morris, Kohli digs it out.

Over 10

Kulkarni is back.

Over 9

10 off the over, RCB 76/1 and it's the strategic timeout.

FOUR. Tambe hasn't been in top form today. Quick delivery but on the pads, Virat gets a tickle on it to run it down for four, very fine.

Over 7

Dot ball to end the over, RCB 60/1 after 7.

SIX! Kohli rocks back, goes deep in crease and pulls Tambe over deep midwicket for six.

FOUR. Just outside off, and de Villiers crashes the ball past point for four.

James Faulkner is the new bowler.

Over 5

Just one off the over, RCB 37/1 after 5 overs.

I CALLED IT. AB de Villiers walks in at No 3. But today the target is not big. However this match could end quickly if he gets going.

OUT! What happened there? Short ball just on and outside off from Watson, that was medium pace. Gayle was caught in two minds perhaps. He went for a pull and then pulled out of it. The ball took the top edge and was caught by the keeper. Bizarre, soft dismissal.

Shane Watson comes into the attack.

High full toss, played to mid on by Gayle. No signal from the umpire.

FOUR. Gayle gets on to the back foot and slams a good length ball on off through covers for four.

Gayle was getting ready for the big shot over the infield on the on side. However, it was a fraction shorter and quicker than he thought, so he played it to short third man. No run.

Over 2

No run off the last ball. RCB 13/0 after 2 overs.

FOUR. Great pick-up shot, it was short outside off but Gayle had to reach out. He scooped the ball over mid off with ease.

FOUR. Poor line from Kulkarni, length ball on pads, Gayle goes for a flick and gets four leg byes to fine leg.

Dhaval Kulkarni to bowl.

Over 1

Oh dear. Late movement into off stump, Kohli went for a flick to the on side, got a leading edge that went to a vacant cover for one. On another note, why is cover vacant? RCB 4/0 after 1 over.

Yorker, good ball, Gayle digs it out to the on side and gets one.

Outswinger, moves late, Gayle goes for a booming drive on the up, misses.

Outside off, Kohli drives to sweeper cover for one.

Slower ball but on the legs, Gayle gets a single as the ball goes to the on side off the pad.

Length on off stump, played out to the off side.

Chris to Chris. Morris to Gayle.

Chris Gayle is back, and Virat Kohli is opening with him.

Rajasthan Royals have finished with a very mediocre total of 130/9. Their innings never really got going. They lost wickets at regular intervals and then Mitchell Starc came back to take 3 wickets. For once the RCB bowling was top notch.

Over 20

Full on middle, Tambe ekes out a single into the leg side. Just three off the last over. Rajasthan Royals 130/9 after 20 overs.

Swing and a miss, ball goes zooming just past off stump.

Low full toss spearing into middle stump, Chris Morris advances and tries to clear mid off, but only gets a single.

Very low full toss outside off, Tambe manages a single through point.

Outside off, swings away late and Pravin drives without connection.

Pravin Tambe, the last man, is out to face the music.

OUT! Clincal bowled dismissal. From around the wicket Starc brings the ball into Kulkarni. It is very full and Kulkarni just doesn't get his bat down in time. Off stump flies out of the way.

Over 19

Typical tailender's uncontrolled scoop into the off side gets Kulkarni one. RR 127/8 after 19 overs.

Tailender Dhaval Kulkarni will bat now.

OUT! Faulkner is gone off a brilliant catch by keeper Dinesh Karthik. Faulkner moved across and tried to scoop the ball over the keeper. He got no elevation, but Karthik had to dive hard to his wrong side - left - to take the catch. Full stretch and he gets it inches off the ground.

Three runs off three balls of the Harshal Patel over. RR need to do far better.

Over 18

Mitchell Starc took out Steven Smith and Stuart Binny in the last over. RR are 122/7 after 18 overs.

Over 17

FOUR. Brilliant reverse sweep from Binny. The ball was on a length on middle. It was a premeditated shot but off the middle of the bat and cleared short third man with ease.

Over 16

SIX! Good length ball outside off, lifted really, really well over wide long on for six by Binny. That was a difficult shot.

Over 14

Down the track, underedge goes to the keeper. Another good over for RCB, just 4 off it. Strategic timeout. RR 93/5 after 14 overs.

3 off 4 balls off Wiese's over so far. Rajasthan are stuck in a rut here.

Wide ball, very wide, and Smith gets his bat onto it. This means it's a wasted delivery. Would have been called a wide if he'd left it, and when he hit it he didn't hit it well.

Over 13

Stuart Binny is the new batsman. RR 89/5 after 13 overs.

OUT! Samson tried a slog-sweep across the line. The ball was a half volley on middle which turned away after pitching. Once Samson had missed, the ball met the stumps.

Sanju Samson tries to turn the ball to the off side, and Smith sets off. However, he has to turn back mid pitch as the ball goes straight to gully.

Yuzi bowls.

Over 12

Slower ball, holds up on the batsman, he checks his shot for a single. RR 87/4 after 12 overs.

OUT! That was a terrible shot from Deepak Hooda. He didn't read the line of the ball at all. Just tried to drive the ball down the ground. It pitched and turned off a good length and knocked back the off stump.

Smith down the track and driven to deep midwicket for a single.

Iqbal Abdulla comes back to bowl.

Over 11

Over 10

Single off the last ball, RR 73/3 after 10 overs.

OUT! Terrible mix up between the batsmen while coming back for the second. Karun Nair is run out at the bowler's end. It was a bullet throw from the deep. RR 72/3.

Yuzi has gone off and captain Kohli is going to continue the over. Soft kids, these.

He seems to have hurt his bowling hand in the process as well.

DROPPED. Karun drove straight down the ground, and it was a simple chance for Yuzi, but he fluffed it.

Over 9

RR 68/2 after 9 overs

Driven into the off side, another single.

FOUR. Watson comes down the track and lofts Yuzvendra Chahal over mid on for four.

Over 5

OUT! Rahane is gone, off cutter from outside off hits him flush in front as he tries to turn it away. LBW. RR 36/1 after 5 overs.

Over 4

Single off the last ball, RR 30/0 after 4 overs.

FOUR. Swept away beautifully to the square leg boundary for four.

SIX! Short, turns outside off and Rahane rocks back to pull it over wide long on for a big six. He really got it in the meat of the bat.

Over 3

FOUR. Short outside off, Watson biffs it over point. Clears him easily and two fielders chase it to the fence. RR 17/0 after 3.

FOUR. Fraction short from Starc, Watson pulls it off the front foot through midwicket for four. The ball sat up on Watson. This is not an Aussie pitch.

Mitchell Starc continues.

Over 2

Just one off the over, RR 9/0 after 2 overs.

Short outside off, Watson cuts but finds point. The lack of pace on the ball might have been the reason for his lack of success.

Spinner on in the second over. It's Iqbal Abdulla.

Over 1

FOUR. Cover driven for four by Watson. It's 8/0 after 1 over.

Another wide. Mitchell Starc has lost his line.

Wide ball. That was hardly a wide, just outside leg.

Royal Challengers Bangalore have won the toss and chosen to bowl.

19:22 IST Friday, 24 April 2015

Welcome to the LIVE coverage of Rajasthan Royals v/s Royal Challengers Bangalore, from Ahmedabad. The match begins at 8 pm IST.

The two teams have had contrasting fortunes so far. While Rajasthan have won all but one of their six games, Bangalore have won just one out of five. Here's the match preview.

RCB's problems began in the last match when they left out Chris Gayle. Gayle, who had made 10 off 24 balls in his last game, was dropped against Chennai Super Kings. The Challengers had to then chase a big target which they didn't get very close to. This means RCB have lost three straight games at home. One expects Chris Gayle to be back for this game.

Royals on the other hand are yet to lose a match 'clean'. Their defeat to the Kings XI Punjab came in the Super Over. They look a very well oiled unit, despite RCB's superior batting prowess.

To be frank, both Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers are yet to play an important innings for RCB this IPL. Though Virat made 51 in the last game, he took 42 balls for it, against a rapidly increasing required rate. As for AB de Villiers, coming in at No 3 or 4 could work wonders. He needs to spend time at the crease before going hammer and tongs. Though AB is in form, his destructive innings simply haven't been long enough to change the game.
