Fatullah Test: Bangladesh v/s India - Dhawan, Vijay shine for India on rain marred day

Bangladesh take on India in the first test match at Fatullah in the one-off series

Fatullah Test: Bangladesh v/s India - Dhawan, Vijay shine for India on rain marred day

17:31 IST Wednesday, 10 June 2015

So it was all India from start to finish as the visitors powered by Dhawan and Vijay's clever batsmanship have ensured that they have given Bangladesh a mountain to climb come Day 2.

If Vijay was more workman like in his laboured 89*, Dhawan called the shots with a fine 150* which means the duo will have another go at Bangladesh's bowlers come Day 2.

As for Bangladesh, there was nothing to talk about with their bowling resembling a stick trying to break down the Indian fortress.

Ind - 239 for 0

See you on Day 2 of the test match come Thursday.

Bad light is the reason given by umpires Dharmasena and Llong.

Vijay (89*) and Dhawan (150*) have made this a brutally one sided contest with not even a single Bangladesh bowler registering even a single wicket.

And that brings to close the day's play as stumps are drawn.

Ind - 235 for 0

Dhawan has not hit a single six througout the morning...but his 21 boundaries have very well made sure that India are in the driving seat.

Fifty four overs have passed and Bangladesh's bowlers have resembled a club-level attack thanks to Dhawan and Vijay's clever batsmanship.

Tips from David Warner for Dhawan during the duo's numerous opening wicket blitz in IPL 8?

Highest test opening partnership for India in 2015...225 out in by Dhawan and Vijay.

And Bangladesh are still searching for that elusive wicket.

Meanwhile Dhawan has reached 145* from 146 deliveries...almost run-a-ball for the south-paw.

So as the day meanders on, Vijay (86*) has time to execute a cheeky reverse sweep off Taijul...trickles away for a boundary to fine-leg.

Ind - 225 for 0

Too bad there is no Mortaza or Rubel who could have added the missing fire in the currently dead pan Bangladeshi attack.

Vijay (86*) and Dhawan (138*) are literally having a ball as they toy with the Bangladesh bowlers.

So as Session 3 gets mid-way, shots start trickling in towards the boundary.

Ind - 215 for 0

No signs of Vijay (84*) and Dhawan (131*) slowing down...Bangladesh bowlers still searching for that elusive breakthrough.

And an amazing statistic stands out amidst this day of test cricket...no extras conceded by Bangladesh so far.

Ind - 205 for 0

India cross the 200-run mark...a watershed day for Bangladesh it has been...literally!

Vijay hoicks that over the mid-on ropes...uses his shoulders well to give that shot power.

And the first six of the day!

Over 40

Ind - 189 for 0

Even Vijay is looking to accelerate...he is using deft footwork against the inept Bangladeshi spin attack.

27 boundaries in the innings so far...cruise control mode on for India.

The duo are easily getting runs in one's and two's for the moment...the platform is set for India to finish off on a high today.

Still no luck for Bangladesh in getting past Dhawan and Vijay.

Over 36

Ind - 167 for 0

Dhawan's celebration is a muted one, just a wave of the hat to the crowd.

GREAT KNOCK.

Hundred for Dhawan...he gets to the mark by deftly placing that past deep-mid wicket.

Ind - 161 for 0

Just two more needed for his century.

And the south-paw has made them pay...and how!

Bangladesh may now be rueing over those sitters which they dropped off Dhawan early on in the day.

15:45 IST Wednesday, 10 June 2015

It would be interesting to see as to whether the previous rain delay has any effect on the pitch here.

Vijay (59*) on the other hand has played out a workman like effort so far.

Dhawan is on 96 now...a well compiled effort so far...one boundary away from a century.

15:11 IST Wednesday, 10 June 2015

The game will go on till 18:30 IST with minimim of 38 overs to play for.

And play resumes...Vijay and Dhawan have stride in to bat.

14:50 IST Wednesday, 10 June 2015

Can we have a game here?

A minimum of 38 overs till stumps...that is if weather permits.

14:14 IST Wednesday, 10 June 2015

An inspection at 3 pm will determine as to whether play can be carried further...till then keep on sopping laddies!

13:39 IST Wednesday, 10 June 2015

And it is still drizzling...no chance of the covers coming off as for now..stya tuned for more updates.

13:15 IST Wednesday, 10 June 2015

Covers are coming off...can the groundsmen and super sopper's help this game get on track after this unprecented delay?

12:57 IST Wednesday, 10 June 2015

No sign of rains abating here...still it remains to the groundsmen and super sopper's to make sure that the game gets underway the moment rain stops.

12:17 IST Wednesday, 10 June 2015

And here is India's 'Mr Cricket', Harsha Bhogle's live update from Fatullah.

11:48 IST Wednesday, 10 June 2015

The poor guy was sidelined for Rohit Sharma for the game...this means all his county exploits have gone in vain by the looks of it!

So what in the world happened to Cheteshwar Pujara?

Over 23.3

Ind - 107 for 0

Dhawan (74*) and Vijay (33*) have ensured that India have got off to a perfect start on eve of seesion 1.

And it is raining here...the groundsmen rush on with the covers...Bangladesh have a chance to regroup and alter their strategy.

Over 22

Ind - 98 for 0

Even the spin troika of Shakib, Taijul and Shuvagat  look listless against the two openers and given the dead nature of the pitch, India are on course to rack up a huge score.

The duo of Shahid and Sarkar look impotent and definitely do not have the ability to get past Dhawan-Vijay as far as the action suggests.

Dhawan (65*) and Vijay (25*) are handling both pace (if you can call it that!) and spin with elan.

Well well..India are literally in cruise control mode here.

Over 16

Ind - 72 for 0

Good for India that Dhawan is making use of a so called 'batting track' this morning...each and every shot from his blade is crisp in timing and placement.

In contrast Vijay's 17 (off 45 deliveries) looks like a laboured effort in comparision.

And a well made fifty for Dhawan...he has reached the mark in just 47 deliveries....India are 72 for 0 after 16 overs now.

Over 10

Ind -  45 for 0

If Dhawan continues on like this then Bangladesh will really have some real trouble up their hands!

India are playing this at an ODI pace as for now...thanks to Dhawan who has raced to a splendid 42.

Over 7

Ind - 35 for 0

Three consecutive boundaries off Mohammad Shahid...good footwork in every one of those hits by Dhawan.

Dhawan has raced to a superb 30 off 26 balls with 6 hits to the boundary...even the pitch looks tailor made for a special one by the south-paw.

Spin in 6th over... Nice welcome back to team India to Test cricket in sub-continent... #IndvsBan — Chetan Narula (@chetannarula) June 10, 2015

And India have started off quite well with Dhawan and Vijay taking them to 21 without loss in 6 overs.

Good toss to win for India considering that the pitch may have little or nothing for bowlers.

Vijay and Dhawan have walked in to bat....will this contest be a batting fiesta for both sides.

TOSS TIME - India have won the toss and Kohli has elected to bat first...great choice it seems regarding the so called 'lifeless' track which has been predicted to be panned out by curators.

------------------------------------------------

Welcome to LIVE coverage of the first test match between Bangladesh and India at Fatullah.

Led by Virat Kohli, India will look to upstage Bangladesh in their own den and show who really is the boss in the test match arena.

Bangladesh coach Chandika Hathurusingha on the other hand has raised concerns about the nature of pitch and believes that it will not be a true sporting wicket.

Also skipper Mushfiqur Rahim is of the beilef that the game will be a 50-50 contest and is confiedent of his team giving India a good fight.

Thanks to the nature of the track, Bangladesh will in all probablity field two pacers and a spinner for the contest and it will be interesting to see as to how they can deal with the world class batting line-up led by Kohli.

So as it stands the game definitely looks for the taking for India who look poised to clinch it despite being in away territory.
