Sachin Tendulkar denies claims that he wants IIT Delhi grounds to build cricket academy

Cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar has denied that he wanted the IIT Delhi grounds to build a cricket academy.

A day after IIT Delhi director Raghunath K Shevgaonkar resigned from his post two years before the end of term, a prominent English news daily had claimed that the director had been asked to provide the IIT ground to Tendulkar to build a cricket academy.

The daily further stated that Shevgaonkar was opposed to this demand, specifically claiming he said that the IIT grounds should be for the benefit of students and faculty only.

However, these claims were debunked by Sachin Tendulkar himself. Tendulkar, who is a reticent man usually unwilling to speak on controversial issues, took to Twitter earlier on Sunday to express his anger and thoroughly deny the claims of the aforementioned daily.

After Tendulkar hit back at the newspaper, it took down the contentious content from its website, and offered an apology:

Oops. A clarification:-
IIT sources had told us that there was pressure on the director to give land for Sachin Tendulkar's cricket academy. However, Tendulkar has strongly denied that this is the case. In fact, he has said he has no plans for a cricket academy. We are sorry to have carried the news on the basis of sources which have been reliable in the past and didn't check with Tendulkar. We are sorry for this. We are also removing all mentions of this from the story.
