Shivaji skit wows twincity’s literati

‘Janata Raja’, a mega play was staged in Dombivli this week. An open air play Janata Raja that depicts the life and key events in the times of the Maratha warrior Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj was staged at Sawlaram Mhatre Sports Complex in Dombivli.

In its 24th year, the play is organised by Maharaja Shiv Chattrapati Pratishthan in Pune. Shivshaheer Babasaheb Purandare, whose literature and lecture series on Shivaji Maharaj received appreciation and response, produced Janata Raja.

The main attraction of the three hour long play over the years has been the colossal five tier revolving set design.  Janata Raja was presented by the troupe of nearly 200 artistes from age group of five to 70 years.

To give the audience a feel of the events occurred during 17 century such as guerrilla tactics, jungle warfare, elephants, camels and horses were also involved in the play.

Digitally recorded sound track was used in the play to create the feel of the events.   
The play was staged for the first time in Dombivli since the revolving set was renovated and restructured.  The set was restructured by a team of 70-80 artists of Samarth Arts from Mumbai.
