Elaxim - Tenectaplase truly deserves to be called life saving drug as the 'Clot buster* can abort the Heart attack. Injection can be given as I.V. bolus, easy to be administered either at Patient's residence or in ambulance or in Intensive coronary care units.
Timely given injection can make difference between life & death. Tenectaplase has been recognized as the fastest delivered clot bluster in the world since 2000, says Professor Dr. Lekha Adik Pathak - Head Dept. of Cardiology, Nanavati Heart Institute.
She said 70% of patients with Heart attack are admitted in ICCU where cath lab facilities are not available. Time is crucial in opening neblocked artery saving Heart muscle, mini missing muscle damage & improving left ventricular function.
She said she has an experience of using Elaxim. Elaxim has been used in about 5000 patients in India at different centers. It has been observed that timely delivered bolus injection of Eelaxim can made a sea face change in out come of Heart attack victims.
This disease is affecting more and more younger people and today there is no age bar as well as sex difference. Elaxim opens the blocked artery in about 85% of patients and normal Tim III flow is achieved. This injection enhances fast recovery, shorter hospital stay, less or no complications & better out come.
This product is much better in efficacy than previous clot dissolving drugs like streptokinase & urokinase. We have also compared the angioplasty following Tenectaplase with PAMI (Primary angioplasty). PAMI is considered as the gold standard for AMI, but has limitations.
It has to be performed by skilled operator, high volume centre with door to balloon time of 90 mts. It is extremely difficult that in India patient reaches cath lab with in 90 mts. of chest pain. Even in country like USA only 4.2% meet the criteria of PAMI.
Recent Landmark Garcia II trial, which was presented in European society of cardiology and published in European Heart Journal, brought interesting observations. He compared the post tenectaplase angioplasty which can be dome few hrs. after IV bolus of tenectaplase with PAMI. He has shown that Primary & Secondary end points are similar with both. The new term pharmaco invasive therapy is used. Which has advantage of drug & mechanical Intervention.
Therefore it appears that Injection of Tenectaplase is an ideal treatment for patients of ST elevation acute myocardial Infarction particularly in country like India. Angiography & angioplasty can be done after few hrs. of Tenectaplase. This procedure is safe & less complications in stabilized patients.
