Oh no, Winfrey’s opera to wind up

Oprah Winfrey, an influential talk show anchor on telly, announced on Friday that she was ending her popular daytime programme in 2011. DNA asks people and celebs about the show on World Television Day.

Few have a social conscience like her
What I love most about her personality is her combination of sheer spunk and daring, along with a strong social conscience. She can ask a lot of tough questions but you're always aware of a solid heart behind it. Besides, she's not only an activist in her own right but also a fabulous actor although she has done very few films. I'm looking forward for more.

Anchors can learn a lot from her
Oprah is an iconic personality and she has caught everyone’s attention. Every woman must have seen her show at least once in their lifetime. The show handled controversial topics, which people could relate to. She dealt with sensitive topics with ease, making it comfortable not only for the guest but also the audience. She is talented and an excellent host. Many hosts can learn from the way she conducted her show. Anchoring a show means that the host must put guests at ease. Only when the environment is relaxed a person starts talking. One  needs to be careful about sensitive issues.

Certainly the most influential person
There are no words to describe a more genuine and realistic person as Oprah Winfrey. On her way to becoming one of the most influential people in the world, Oprah has helped millions of people. She does not pretend to have led a fairytale celebrity life and relates to her core target audience. She clearly is unwilling to do anything for money alone and considers a moral and long-term perspective. Twitter's traffic surged 43% after she tweeted for the first time, isn't that truly incredible?  A suggestion from her turns unknown authors and products into bestsellers.

Undoubtedly TV’s Mother Teresa
Oprah is legendary. I can’t put my finger on one particular thing that made the show click. I will miss The Oprah Winfrey show. She is a great personality and I'm running out of adjectives to describe her. She is going to be completely missed and I think the public, especially her fans, will be in a state of shock. She is definitely the new age Mother Teresa for America.

The fashion diva will be missed by all
I love her honesty and attitude. She stands out with her persona and she has managed to achieve all this at a time, when it was quite difficult for her to do so in America. The best thing about her is that she didn't take on politicians like others or reveal her political views to people. She was unbiased and used the system to help people who desperately needed aid and managed to continue it for so many years. That's not an easy job. She dedicated her life to working for people. She is a legend and an icon. Not to forget she is also a fashion diva.

Always empathised with talk show guests
The news that Winfrey will be quitting her talk show will bring irreconcilable grief to her fans. Her show is the most watched programme not in America, but all over the world. But reaching this stage isn’t easy for an anchor. There are many reasons for her success. Firstly she isn’t just a great television anchor but also a great human being. Secondly her emotional quotient is high and there is no speciousness on her show. She never did anything to raise TRPs. She always tried to help the participants and empathised with talk show guests. That set her apart from others. While talk show hosts adopt a sensational style and take up scandalous issues, she understood the pulse of her audience and avoided such things.

No show can even hold a candle to Winfrey
I have watched almost all the episodes of the Oprah Winfrey show. It is one of the most well conducted and anchored shows. What sets it apart is that Oprah interviews common people who are doing charitable or extraordinary work and contributing to the society. Also there were many revelations that have happened on this chat show. But one of the most memorable moments was when Tom Cruise jumped around the set, hopped onto a couch and repeatedly professed his love for his new girlfriend Katie Holmes. There are numerous chat shows happening in India, but none can be compared to this show.

Hope to see her make a comeback
It is disheartening that Oprah Winfrey is ending her show in 2011. The programme has helped me many times in gaining my confidence and widening my horizons. It is realistic and nothing seems scripted. It’s not particularly targeted at a certain country or audience, it’s entirely based on humanity and compassion for all. I remember a show when a disabled lady was describing that she lost her leg because she was talking on her mobile phone while driving her car. The show not only tackled real issues, it also educated about the issue. We hope if she has left the show, she will come back again with another show.

Celebrities showed a different side, so many fans will be disappointed
The Oprah Winfrey Show revolutionised and popularised the concept of talk shows. It's still the longest-running daytime television talk show in the US, this speaks volumes about the show. Oprah Winfrey is one of the most influential and loved chat show hosts and this show enabled viewers to watch the best celebrities being interviewed. She brought out a totally different side of the celebrities on the show. Also it is going to end in 2011, so many fans will be disappointed. The only Indian talk show that I enjoyed was Rendezvous with Simi Garewal. She is quite subtle and comes across as very polite and politically correct.

Diverse topics make the show dynamic, her themes were easy to relate
Oprah Winfrey is the best in business. The talk show has been on air for decades now and she always makes it lively. Diverse topics make the show dynamic. She is always full of life which makes the shows energetic, even sensitive topics are handled well without hurting anyone's sentiments. The best part about the show is when she surprises her audience with gifts. One can see not only famous personalities, but faces of common people who we can relate to. The stories told on the show were moving and inspiring. The Indian show which can come close to it is Koffee with Karan as it gives a good insight into a Bollywood actor's life.

I have greatly enjoyed the episodes, programme was very entertaining
Although I didn't watch the show regularly, I have thoroughly enjoyed the episodes that I have watched. It's a show that goes beyond just a glamourous life, it further delves into a positive, spiritually uplifting experience by talking about their philanthropic contribution and relationships. I have particularly enjoyed the episode when Tom Cruise was interviewed. Also the episode that was broadcasted from Chicago's Millennium Park and featured over 175 athletes from the US Olympic Team including gold medallists Michael Phelps was good. Also I remember the hype created when Aishwarya Rai appeared on her talk show.

Show brought out positive aspects of life, it will go down in the annals of history
Different stories from every sphere of life made Oprah's talk show unique and worth watching. One episode that really inspired was about a group of women who looked younger than their actual age. They looked younger because of their positive attitude adopted in their live and how they tackled problems without taking stress. Her makeover episodes, where she helped people become more beautiful also helped. Today, there are many shows which try and copy her style but nobody can take her place and she will be missed. The Ellen Degeneres show is another talk show which is entertaining as it is very lively.
