Nagaon: Your private beach a 100 kms away

Located about a hundred kilometres from Mumbai, Nagaon promises to be a perfect destination to unwind during weekends. The chances are that you will leave this place with a promise to return  the next weekend.

To get to Nagaon, get on the Mumbai-Goa highway and stop at Karnala for a brief respite. The batata vadas, biryani and  the chai here is amazing. Head towards Alibag and at the Jakat naka in Alibag you will find a left turn that will lead you to Nagaon, which lies just seven kilometres away.

The narrow path that leads you in, is dotted with cottages on either side. You can stay at any of these cottages and be assured that the beach is never very far. The rates hover around Rs100 per head per day for lodging. The rooms are generally clean and so are the toilets. Your food will be what the cottage owner eats. It will be cooked only after you place your order, in the owner's kitchen, and that too at very reasonable rates.

The Nagaon beach is inviting and the sea invigorating. For the cricket crazy Mumbaikars, this beach is good enough to hold a limited-over match. You can enjoy almost total privacy, as it is still not a very popular holiday place.

On your way back, remember to halt at Karnala for those delicious batata vadas, biryani and chai.
